The co-founder of Ideas Beyond Borders argues that there is "no better independence than economic independence."
Autocracy is on the rise. There are only 34 liberal democracies – the lowest number in more than 25 years – and they are home to just 13 percent of the world population. How can we reverse that trend? Our guests today are at the vanguard of that work to reverse this decline in global freedom. First we will hear from World Liberty Congress, a newer group created and led by the very dissidents that the group aims to serve. Then, Human Rights Foundation, known for its important work highlighting the dangerous trend toward autocracy. Finally, Ideas Beyond Borders takes the fight to the Middle East region, and you'll enjoy hearing how it goes about its challenging work.
I recently had a really interesting conversation with my dear friend Faisal Al Mutar. Faisal is from war-torn Iraq, and he's the most American person I have ever met. He leads Ideas Beyond Borders, an organization dedicated to translating Enlightenment texts into Arabic, among other impactful initiatives.During our conversation, Faisal and I discussed the attempted assassination of Donald Trump and its implications, particularly in the context of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts. We also explored Trump's choice for a new Vice President, contrasting Vice President Harris and discussing the Democratic Party's current situation. Watch this episode on YouTube.

On this week's NCF Deprogrammed, hosts Harrison Pitt & Evan Riggs are joined by journalist and activist Melissa Chen, contributing editor for Spectator USA & co-founder of Ideas Beyond Borders. On today's show, the panel discuss whether Christianity is the West's most potent force in the battle against wokeism. The discussion expands upon Evan Riggs' essay in the European Conservative in which he argues that "those of us committed to fighting back against the ‘woke' must come to terms with the fact that only Christianity is potent enough to defeat the cult of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our guest this week is Nick Gillespie. Nick is an editor at large at Reason, the Libertarian magazine of free minds and free markets and host of The reason Interview with Nick Gillespie. He serves on the board for Ideas Beyond Borders, and is the co author with Matt Welch of 'The Declaration of Independents: How Libertarian Politics Can Fix What's Wrong with America' We discuss what Libertarianism is and is not, the relationship to anarchism, the role of the state in an ideal society, the lack of a unifying social or political narrative, libertarianism successes in the West, the rise of China's willpower, social media and the tensions between libertarian views on private companies versus free expression, Francis Fukuyama and our crisis of identity and more. Nick emailed us shortly after the recording to make one correction: At one point Nick refers to there being currently 100,000 school districts in the United States, a reduction from previous numbers, but there are actually currently 13,500 school districts, also a reduction from previous numbers of 100,000 in 1940. With over 30 years of experience in investigations, audits, and inspections, Anthony Amore is the perfect candidate to run for the Massachusetts State Auditor seat. Anthony was instrumental in the efforts of the newly formed TSA following 9/11, particularly serving on the leadership team that rebuilt security at the Logan Airport in Boston. Anthony joins me today to discuss what inspired him to run for the Massachusetts State Auditor seat. We discuss why running for the State Auditor position is different from running for other political positions and why voters should elect State Auditors based on the candidate's experience instead of their party alignment. We discuss the two primary roles of a State Auditor, the issues Anthony is most passionate about, and the primary issues he plans to focus on if elected into office. We also discuss how Anthony is connecting with diverse audiences on the campaign trail and his plans to keep his focus on serving Massachusetts' taxpayers instead of the political landscape. “An Auditor should be an honest broker; an independent - not in terms of party enrollment necessarily, but in terms of attitude and philosophy when you're performing the work of the Auditor.” - Anthony Amore This week on Political Contessa: Why Anthony chose to run for the State Auditor seat in Massachusetts How running for State Auditor is different than other political campaigns Voting for the most experienced candidate The two primary roles of State Auditors Anthony's primary objectives that he will focus on if elected to office How Anthony is connecting with diverse audiences while campaigning Anthony's passion for serving Massachusetts' taxpayers Connect with Anthony Amore: Anthony Amore for Auditor Book: Stealing Rembrandts: The Untold Stories of Notorious Art Heists Book: The Art of the Con: The Most Notorious Fakes, Frauds, and Forgeries in the Art World Book: The Woman Who Stole Vermeer: The True Story of Rose Dugdale and the Russborough House Art Heist Anthony Amore for Auditor on YouTube Anthony Amore for Auditor on Instagram Anthony Amore for Auditor on Facebook Anthony Amore for Auditor on Twitter Anthony Amore on LinkedIn Awaken Your Inner Political Contessa Thanks for tuning into this week's episode of Political Contessa. In 2017, he founded the nonprofit “Ideas Beyond Borders” to provide educational opportunities to people who have little or no access to information about science, literature, philosophy, and history. In this deep discussion with host Dr. Alan Campbell, we hear about Al Mutar's experiences in the Middle East and the mission of the organization, including the latest project to provide underground education to girls in Afghanistan.

Faisal Saeed Al Mutar’s first experience with Americans was during the second Iraq war when a US tank rolled up in front of his house. He shares his incredible story of growing up under Saddam Hussein’s regime, the vaccuum in his neighborhood that was filled by members of Al-Qaeda, blogging against extremism and receiving death threats as a teenager, escaping Iraq, and the ten year journey to becoming an America citizen. He discusses being taken in by a family in Virginia, why he thinks Americans are amazing people, his appreciation of the values America was founded upon – free speech, civil liberties, and freedom of religion – and the importance of the separation of powers. His is the founder of Ideas Beyond Borders, a non-profit that seeks to prevent extremism before it takes root by translating and creating content related to the values that make people less likely to be recruited by extremist organizations. And he shares stories of the heroes he works with across the Middle East who are risking their freedom and lives to help translate content covering controversial or banned ideas, from civil rights, to women’s rights, to evolution, and critical thinking. Melissa Chen (NY Editor, Spectator US) stops by for a brilliant chat that covers a lot of ground. She is currently the Managing Director of Ideas Beyond Borders, a foundation aimed at translating online content into Arabic and making ideas accessible that can challenge extremism before it takes root. They cover tribalism, intuition vs instinct, post-colonial theory, Bridget’s recurring dream, free speech, self-censorship, and designer babies, among other things.
