On Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 Dr. Roger McFillin was interviewed by Dr. Nikki Johnson, a pediatrician and the Director of FAIR (Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism) in Medicine for a live webinar event. The webinar, titled "Informed Consent and SSRIs Revisited: Side Effects and Treatment Alternatives," tackles one of the most pressing issues in mental healthcare today. It was too important to not get out on a podcast episode. Medical freedom and Informed consent are one of the most pressing issues of our time. The Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism ("FAIR")is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization committed to challenging threats to civil liberties from identity-based practices. As an organization committed to promoting honest scientific discourse and defending medical freedom, FAIR is uniquely positioned to facilitate these crucial conversations. During this live webinar, Dr. McFillin and Dr. Johnson explored critical questions about SSRI medications that often go undiscussed: What are the full range of side effects? What alternative treatments exist? How has industry influence shaped our understanding of these medications? Most importantly, what information do patients need for genuine informed consent? The Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism ("FAIR") WebsiteYoutube video of the Live Webinar RADICALLY GENUINE PODCASTDr. Roger McFillin / Radically Genuine WebsiteYouTube @RadicallyGenuineDr. Roger McFillin (@DrMcFillin) / XSubstack | Radically Genuine | Dr. Roger McFillinInstagram @radicallygenuineContact Radically GenuineConscious Clinician CollectivePLEASE SUPPORT OUR PARTNERS15% Off Pure Spectrum CBD (Code: RadicallyGenuine)10% off Lovetuner click here—-----------FREE DOWNLOAD! Be it Resolved, cultural appropriation is part of the American experience.

The release of the country album “Cowboy Carter” by Beyoncé this spring caused some surprising controversy.  Some complained Beyoncé, who is Black, shouldn't be dabbling in what many consider a white music genre. At least one radio station in Oklahoma initially refused to play the album's first single, “Texas Hold'em.” Her supporters pointed out that Black Americans have a rich history in country music and cowboy culture. But the incident raised the issue of cultural appropriation: The stealing from one culture by another.  Some say that “imitation is the best form of flattery” and that cultures borrowing from each other only enriches us all. Others argue that while different cultures will always be inspired by and borrow elements from each other, there are times when borrowing crosses the line into theft.  Arguing in favour of the resolution is Monica Harris. She is a TEDx speaker, blogger, and author of The Illusion of Division. She is also Executive Director of the Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization committed to bridging the ideological divide in America by focusing on shared values and interests. Arguing against the resolution is Nadra Nittle. She is a reporter for The 19th News, and  has also written for Vox.com, the Los Angeles News Group, and many others. Her books include “Toni Morrison's Spiritual Vision” and “Recognizing Microaggressions.”   Free Munk Members can vote on who they think won this debate on our website, www.munkdebates.com   SOURCES: Beyonce The host of this Munk Debates podcast is Ricki Gurwtiz To sign up for a weekly email reminder for this podcast, send an email to podcast@munkdebates.com.   To support civil and substantive debate on the big questions of the day, consider becoming a Munk Member at https://munkdebates.com/membership This podcast is a project of the Munk Debates, a Canadian charitable organization dedicated to fostering civil and substantive public dialogue - https://munkdebates.com/ Senior Producer: Ricki Gurwitz Producer: Daniel Kitts Editor: Kieran Lynch

Are you relieved that Gay Pride month is over? Monica Harris, an author, attorney, activist, and the executive director of the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism (FAIR) fought for LGBT civil rights in the 1980s and 1990s. Today, she finds herself dismayed by the current state of that movement. In this conversation, Monica talks about how we went from Ellen DeGeneres to drag queen story hours, why gay rights organizations turned their attention to trans issues, and why she believes homophobia lies at the root of much of gender medicine. She also talks about the economic forces driving ordinary people to the ideological fringes, particularly young men who find themselves without job or relationship prospects. GUEST BIO Monica Harris is the executive director of FAIR, the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, where she served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review. She spent over a decade as a business and legal affairs executive at Walt Disney Television, NBCUniversal Media, and Viacom Media Networks. In 2011, she abandoned corporate life and moved with her family to Montana, where she serves entertainment clients remotely through her firm, Big Sky.  Monica is a TEDx speaker, author, and blogger who advocates for balanced, common-sense solutions to systemic problems based on our shared values and goals. Are We Being Manipulated To Hate Each Other? This week, Wilk is joined for another powerful conversation with Monica Harris, the executive director of the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism, better known as FAIR. Monica dives deep into the core of what it means to focus on our common humanity and resist the forces that seek to divide us. She makes a compelling case that discrimination in any form is wrong and that true equality is something we must all strive for.Monica doesn't shy away from the tough issues, pointing out that the often-overlooked class divide could be the key to uniting all Americans. She shares personal stories and insights from her connections with working-class white people, emphasizing the critical role of communication and understanding.Throughout this incredible conversation, Wilk and Monica tackle some heavy topics: the distraction of race, the unsustainable debt crisis in the US, and the importance of a colorblind society —not in saying that we should ignore our differences, but in treating everyone equally and with respect. Monica passionately argues for seeing and understanding others on a deeper level, beyond physical and immutable characteristics, and truly engaging with their unique experiences and challenges. So, get ready to be inspired as Monica and I explore how focusing on our common challenges and experiences can bridge divides and promote unity. TakeawaysDiscrimination in any form, for any reason, against anyone is wrong.Focusing on our common humanity is essential for unity and progress. The class divide is a significant issue that needs attention and can unite people.Communication and understanding are key to breaking down barriers and overcoming division. The conversation highlights the distraction of race and identity politics from more pressing issues such as unsustainable debt and economic challenges.Being colorblind means treating people equally regardless of their race or identity, while recognizing and respecting their unique experiences and challenges.Truly seeing and understanding others requires looking beyond physical characteristics and engaging with them on a deeper level.Focusing on common challenges and experiences can help bridge divides and promote unity among people. What have you done today to make your life a better life? What have you done today to make the world a better place? The world is a better place if we are better people. That begins with each of us as individuals. Be kind to one another. In this week's conversation, Yascha Mounk and Daryl Davis discuss how a childhood experience with racism inspired him to interview and befriend members of the Ku Klux Klan; the importance of remaining “pro-human” even in the face of hatred and bigotry; and whether his faith in humanity feels out of tune with the current political moment. This week on The Narrative, Dr. Carrie Mendoza, an emergency medicine and toxicology physician, joins CCV President Aaron Baer, Policy Director David Mahan, and Communications Director Mike Andrews to unpack how we went from the opioid epidemic to the gender "medicine" scandal revealed by the leaked WPATH Files. Before the conversation, the men also discuss Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted's proposal to restrict students' cell phone use at school. Don't forget to vote in the Ohio Presidential Primary Election this weekend or on Tuesday, March 19! More about Dr. Carrie Mendoza Carrie D. Mendoza, MD, is the former Director of FAIR in Medicine with the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism, the current Director of Genspect USA, and a practicing emergency medicine physician with over 20 years of experience working in rural, suburban, and urban hospitals treating everything from snakebites to gunshot wounds to Covid-19 patients. Her practical experience provides unique insights into the American medical system and how the modern healthcare bureaucracy can scale harmful policies while ignoring the negative side effects.  Note: An unforeseen technical issue occurred during the conversation with Dr. Mendoza. You may notice the men's audio quality is below our usual standards, but we have identified the problem and how to prevent it in future episodes. In spite of the issue, we know you will find Dr. Mendoza's comments insightful and helpful.

It also delves into the problematic nature of certain works on race, the impact of language and intent, and the need for curiosity and open-mindedness in conversations. The Soul of Civility; Book discussion with Alexandra HudsonIn this episode, guest host Julian Adorney is joined by guest Alexandra Hudson to discuss her book, The Soul of Civility. They explore the difference between politeness and civility, the harm of incivility, and the importance of heroes and mentors in inspiring better behavior. The conversation flows into the importance of courage, balancing compassion and self-protection,  and the importance of being fully present and engaged in our interactions. A truly inspirational discussion on the timeless principles to heal society and ourselves.  Takeaways  Civility is a disposition, a way of seeing others as moral equals and worthy of respect. Incivility not only hurts others, but it also harms ourselves and deforms our souls.Heroes and mentors can inspire us to act with greater courage, integrity, and compassion.Treating others with compassion and kindness is good for its own sake and mutually ennobling.Being fully present and engaged in our interactions is a profound gift that nourishes our souls and honors the dignity of others.Who is Alexandra Hudson? ALEXANDRA O. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit public.substack.comIn 2010, the family of Monica Harris's partner held a reunion in southeastern Montana. “She says, ‘Hey, babe, would you ever want to go?' And I don't know about you, but Montana was one of these places that had always been on my bucket list. It's Big Sky country, you know? So I said, ‘Sure, let's go. And we were there for a week, and it was just — I think it was life-changing.”Monica is a Harvard-educated entertainment lawyer, author of The Illusion of Division, and the new Executive Director of the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism (FAIR), which advocates for Martin Luther King's vision of a color-blind society. The organization, on whose advisory board I sit, is currently supporting a former DEI executive who says she was fired for questioning woke ideology. I interviewed Monica last week for this podcast.Instead of going back to L.A., Harris and her wife drove through Montana. “We're passing all these little towns, and I'm wondering, ‘What's that town like?' Population 2,000 — or 200. ‘What's that about?' We got off at one of them. They were holding a chili cook-off. I thought, ‘My God! A chili cook-off at Montana! What's that about?'“We're creeping through town. There are no black people to be found. Just white guys in pickup trucks with shotguns in the back and the big cowboy hats and boots and women looking like they're from 30 or 40 years ago. I wanted to check it out. But there's a part of me that was kind of afraid. You see a lot of white guys with guns in their trucks and you're thinking, ‘Was this the right move? Am I going to be a statistic? Is someone going to jump out at us as we're walking back to our car?'“We walk up to the woman who's selling the tickets to the cookoff and I'm bracing myself. She looks at us and she says, ‘Y'all here for the cookoff?' I'm like, ‘Yeah, we are.' ‘Well, get yourself a ticket. Settle on in. You're going to have lots of fun.' It was like something out of a movie. It was great. And we spent like a couple of hours there. Everything was fine. That was the first shift in my thinking. The first clue I got was that, ‘Huh. This isn't what I expected. I wonder what else isn't what I expect?

Time For A Depolarization "Manhattan Project"?In a conversation I was having with friend John Wood Jr.  of Braver Angels, he said and I often quote, "Polarization is the one problem that ensures all other problems won't be solved". Many, me being one of them, have said that polarization could realistically be a true existential threat to our great country. Why then do more politicians not take more seriously this threat and work toward solutions? I have my thoughts on that and speak of them often. One solution friends of mine have tossed around is a depolarization "Manhattan Project" of sorts. If not familiar,  the Manhattan Project was a research and development project during World War II in which the United States, along with its allies, developed the first nuclear weapons.  The project involved the work of many scientists, engineers, and support staff, and its success lead to the end of the war with Japan and marked the beginning of the nuclear age. What if such a collaboration could be done to fix polarization? Is it time for a Depolarization Manhattan Project?Who is Daniel F. Stone? You may remember Dan from his first DTH appearance in Episode 161.Dan Stone is an Associate Professor of Economics that has been teaching in the Economics department at Bowdoin since 2012 and prior to that he was an assistant professor at Oregon State University from 2008-2012. Dan's research is on belief formation, political media, polarization, and inter-personal hostility (a.k.a. affective polarization).  Dan's book, “Undue Hate” dives in to “How to understand the mistakes we make about those on the other side of the political spectrum—and how they drive the affective polarization that is tearing us apart.”  Contact Dan on (X):  @d_f_stoneAbout our guest host, Julian Adorney:Julian Adorney is an author and speaker focused on preserving and rebuilding the West against the threats of illiberalism and affective polarization. He's written for Quillette, Queer Majority, National Review, the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism (FAIR) and a few other sites; and is on the Braver Angels media team. He's the founder of Heal the West, a substack movement. What have you done today to make your life a better life? What have you done today to make the world a better place? The world is a better place if we are better people. That begins with each of us leading a better life. Be kind to one another. Be grateful for everything you've got.
