Republicans–who wanted the files released under President Biden–are now twisting themselves into knots trying to protect Trump’s reputation. Democrats are also finding themselves mentioned more than they’d like in what’s been released thus far. As it turns out, proximity to power knows no partisan bounds. MAYBE having transparency into the crimes of the most infamous pedophile in modern history is good in-and-of itself and should never have been a partisan issue… Trump’s DOJ never misses an opportunity to engage in more injustice with the latest being federal prosecutors pushing to release one of Breonna Taylor’s killers. Ben Shapiro and others are also advocating for the release of Derek Chauvin, the officer who murdered George Floyd. AND Our guest today is the Attorney General of Massachusetts, Andrea Campbell. AG Campbell has been a leader in the push back against the Trump administration having filed more than 40 lawsuits to halt some of their dangerous actions. She led a group of AG’s in a lawsuit to release SNAP funds during the shutdown, and she’s been fighting to preserve DEIA initiatives in MA schools, and protect immigrants here legally on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) who have been getting picked up by ICE. There’s a push in several red states to allow pregnant women to park in handicapped spaces. Sounds fine, right? When we take a closer look we see a classic far-right strategy to pit one group against the other, in this case, the disabled community vs. women. Tiffany Cross walks us through the nuance. Reporter Ari Berman wrote an article this week about Trump's pardons for high-profile attorneys and others involved in his plot to overturn the 2020 election–but it’s not just about 2020. Ari’s reporting outlines what Trump’s likely path toward rigging 2026 will be, and the under-the-radar efforts by the Trump administration to fill the voting process with red tape (voter ID, ban voting machines, etc.), which Ari says the administration will use as a pre-text to claim that “millions of Americans voted illegally” in 2026. Our first guest, Karen Attiah, was (until recently) an op-ed writer for the Washington Post. She was fired last week after writing a post on social media that said she wasn’t going to mourn Charlie Kirk, a white man who promoted violence and vitriol. She did not celebrate his death or condone political violence. The Washington Post fired her for having a hot take, which is LITERALLY HER JOB as an opinion writer. Our second guest is a White House Correspondent for AURN (American Urban Radio Networks), Ebony McMorris. In a viral clip, Trump refused to answer a question from Ebony during a press Q&A, and repeatedly insisted that she was “obnoxious,” reminiscent of previous incidents with Black female reporters like Yamish Alcindor, who seem to trigger the president simply by existing. Is this what the first amendment looks like for Black women? One of you submitted a question about Jimmy Kimmel which ties nicely into our theme today, and tied to all of it is the sanctification of the life of racist rightwing commentator, Charlie Kirk. There was a House Resolution honoring Kirk that passed this week which many Democratic lawmakers voted “yes” on, including those in deep blue districts. The 2026 general election may be more than a year away, but the U.S. Senate race in Nebraska is already heating up. Dan Osborn, the industrial mechanic and independent candidate who made national waves for his closer-than-expected race with Sen. Deb Fischer in 2024, is back on the campaign trail – this time against another Republican incumbent, Sen. Pete Ricketts. Osborn may have lost to Fischer by more than 6 percentage points, but in a state that hasn't elected a non-Republican to the Senate since 2006, the close margin elevated his profile and motivated supporters heading into the next election cycle. “It just started with an idea, and we turned it into getting 47% of the vote in Nebraska,” he said Monday of his 2024 campaign, interrupted by cheering and applause from the crowd.

The campaign is in full swing, and momentum is building for the good guys.

Israel tried to kill Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar (a close U.S. ally) while those leaders were meeting to discuss a proposed Gaza ceasefire, eliminating the possibility for peace. Meanwhile, the U.S. military blows up a boat in the Caribbean that the Trump administration claimed was running drugs without providing evidence. These extrajudicial killings undermine international law and American prestige. This is not the first time Israel has sabotaged U.S.-led negotiations with airstrikes, eliminating the possibility for peace and straining U.S. relationships with its Mid-East allies. Fitness trainer and TV personality Jillian Michaels was on Abby Phillip’s CNN show recently making some wild claims about how slavery wasn’t that bad, wasn’t just committed by white people, and wasn’t actually that big of a part of the country’s founding because “only 2%” of Americans owned slaves… We have so many questions y’all–like why this person with no journalism or history experience featured on a CNN panel–but first we have to address some of her specific claims and misleading “facts.” We’ll hear from Nikole Hannah-Jones herself (the creator of the 1619 project). Our guest, Sherrilyn Ifill, gives American democracy a “D.” But, she says, our problems started long before Trump. She joins the NLP hosts to identify the weak points of our democracy and what building blocks might remain in a post-Trump era. Then, a deep dive into how integration led to the draining of public funds, and whether or not the courts will hold as a co-equal branch of government. Ms. Ifill is a renowned civil rights lawyer and scholar who served as the President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. Besides her many scholastic accolades, Ifill was also named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by TIME Magazine. The Texas House Speaker has directed state troopers to follow Democratic representatives, the ones who fled the state to quash a vote on redistricting earlier this month, until they vote on new electoral maps later this week. For refusing this Republican surveillance, Rep Collier has been detained on the house floor, where she’s been told she must remain until the vote is held, or she accepts police escort.
