Our first guest, Karen Attiah, was (until recently) an op-ed writer for the Washington Post. She was fired last week after writing a post on social media that said she wasn’t going to mourn Charlie Kirk, a white man who promoted violence and vitriol. She did not celebrate his death or condone political violence. The Washington Post fired her for having a hot take, which is LITERALLY HER JOB as an opinion writer. Our second guest is a White House Correspondent for AURN (American Urban Radio Networks), Ebony McMorris. In a viral clip, Trump refused to answer a question from Ebony during a press Q&A, and repeatedly insisted that she was “obnoxious,” reminiscent of previous incidents with Black female reporters like Yamish Alcindor, who seem to trigger the president simply by existing. Is this what the first amendment looks like for Black women? One of you submitted a question about Jimmy Kimmel which ties nicely into our theme today, and tied to all of it is the sanctification of the life of racist rightwing commentator, Charlie Kirk. There was a House Resolution honoring Kirk that passed this week which many Democratic lawmakers voted “yes” on, including those in deep blue districts. Osborn may have lost to Fischer by more than 6 percentage points, but in a state that hasn't elected a non-Republican to the Senate since 2006, the close margin elevated his profile and motivated supporters heading into the next election cycle. “It just started with an idea, and we turned it into getting 47% of the vote in Nebraska,” he said Monday of his 2024 campaign, interrupted by cheering and applause from the crowd.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military blows up a boat in the Caribbean that the Trump administration claimed was running drugs without providing evidence. These extrajudicial killings undermine international law and American prestige. This is not the first time Israel has sabotaged U.S.-led negotiations with airstrikes, eliminating the possibility for peace and straining U.S. relationships with its Mid-East allies. Our guest, Sherrilyn Ifill, gives American democracy a “D.” But, she says, our problems started long before Trump. In response, Democratic state reps have fled Texas to prevent the new maps from being voted on, and governors of blue states like California and New York have threatened to change their state laws to allow more partisan gerrymandering in favor of Democrats. Bill Clinton was finally asked about Jeffery Epstein and his relationship with him while on the campaign trail. It wasn't a member of the storied blue check marked media who did the asking either. As expected, Clinton didn't have much to say although the statement that the evidence is clear is certainly odd, considering all of the evidence points to him not being forthright about the true nature of his relationship with Epstein. Oak Bluffs, a town on Martha’s Vineyard, has been a gathering place for the Black community for more than 100 years. Folks have called the clothing line “elitist;” the jackets and blazers cost well over $500. Should we denounce this celebration of Black culture just for being elitist? Maybe, maybe not. More importantly, we do not need white businesses to validate Black culture. The Black community spends 10’s of billions of dollars on apparel every year, and just a fraction of that goes back to the Black community, even though WE are the source of so much American style. Angela Rye interviews Rodney Taylor’s fiancée, Mildred Pierre. Rodney Taylor didn’t know he was undocumented until he was 17. Earlier this year, I.C.E surrounded his car and arrested him in front of his family. They told him that he’ll be deported back to Liberia without seeing a judge or receiving a hearing, even though he hasn’t been back to Liberia since he was two years old. At 46, he lives in Georgia where he works as a barber. Taylor is a father of seven children who he shares with his fiancée, Mildred. They were engaged shortly before his arrest. This is not the first time that Rodney Taylor has had his life wrongly turned upside down by the justice system. His previous pardoned conviction is how he ended up arrested by ICE this time around...
