Republicans–who wanted the files released under President Biden–are now twisting themselves into knots trying to protect Trump’s reputation. Democrats are also finding themselves mentioned more than they’d like in what’s been released thus far. As it turns out, proximity to power knows no partisan bounds. MAYBE having transparency into the crimes of the most infamous pedophile in modern history is good in-and-of itself and should never have been a partisan issue… Trump’s DOJ never misses an opportunity to engage in more injustice with the latest being federal prosecutors pushing to release one of Breonna Taylor’s killers. Ben Shapiro and others are also advocating for the release of Derek Chauvin, the officer who murdered George Floyd. AND Our guest today is the Attorney General of Massachusetts, Andrea Campbell. AG Campbell has been a leader in the push back against the Trump administration having filed more than 40 lawsuits to halt some of their dangerous actions. She led a group of AG’s in a lawsuit to release SNAP funds during the shutdown, and she’s been fighting to preserve DEIA initiatives in MA schools, and protect immigrants here legally on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) who have been getting picked up by ICE. There’s a push in several red states to allow pregnant women to park in handicapped spaces. Sounds fine, right? When we take a closer look we see a classic far-right strategy to pit one group against the other, in this case, the disabled community vs. women. Tiffany Cross walks us through the nuance. Moderate Democrats in the Senate caved and passed a temporary budget without getting their demands met to continue funding health care subsidies. What the heck happened and what was the point of this record-breaking standoff that saw federal workers furloughed and the poorest Americans lose food assistance? It is not Democrats who “lost” the government shutdown, it is us, the American people, but it has made the Democrats look like losers. MAGA is teeing up to rig the 2026 election. Reporter Ari Berman wrote an article this week about Trump's pardons for high-profile attorneys and others involved in his plot to overturn the 2020 election–but it’s not just about 2020. Ari’s reporting outlines what Trump’s likely path toward rigging 2026 will be, and the under-the-radar efforts by the Trump administration to fill the voting process with red tape (voter ID, ban voting machines, etc.), which Ari says the administration will use as a pre-text to claim that “millions of Americans voted illegally” in 2026. Our first guest, Karen Attiah, was (until recently) an op-ed writer for the Washington Post. She was fired last week after writing a post on social media that said she wasn’t going to mourn Charlie Kirk, a white man who promoted violence and vitriol. She did not celebrate his death or condone political violence. The Washington Post fired her for having a hot take, which is LITERALLY HER JOB as an opinion writer. Our second guest is a White House Correspondent for AURN (American Urban Radio Networks), Ebony McMorris. In a viral clip, Trump refused to answer a question from Ebony during a press Q&A, and repeatedly insisted that she was “obnoxious,” reminiscent of previous incidents with Black female reporters like Yamish Alcindor, who seem to trigger the president simply by existing. Is this what the first amendment looks like for Black women? One of you submitted a question about Jimmy Kimmel which ties nicely into our theme today, and tied to all of it is the sanctification of the life of racist rightwing commentator, Charlie Kirk. There was a House Resolution honoring Kirk that passed this week which many Democratic lawmakers voted “yes” on, including those in deep blue districts. Representative Jasmine Crockett noted that there were only two white Democratic representatives who voted “no.” Is this the return of the Dixiecrats? In Kamala Harris’ new memoir, she speaks candidly about her relationship with Joe Biden, his staff, and the 2024 race for President. She holds nothing back and our hosts speculate her criticism of Biden will NOT be taken lightly by the establishment. Trump has not explicitly said that he’s going to run for a third term, in violation of the 22nd amendment. However, his team is selling “Trump ‘28” hats, and he hasn’t ruled it out. Knowing Trump, why aren’t those in power taking this possibility more seriously? Israel tried to kill Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar (a close U.S. ally) while those leaders were meeting to discuss a proposed Gaza ceasefire, eliminating the possibility for peace. Meanwhile, the U.S. military blows up a boat in the Caribbean that the Trump administration claimed was running drugs without providing evidence. These extrajudicial killings undermine international law and American prestige. This is not the first time Israel has sabotaged U.S.-led negotiations with airstrikes, eliminating the possibility for peace and straining U.S. relationships with its Mid-East allies. Among other baffling details, the Mayor’s order calls for a “Safe and Beautiful Emergency Operations Center.” Rapper Cardi B kept it classy when the judge read the “not guilty” verdict in the civil lawsuit brought against her by a former security guard.
