A Fresh Approach to Immigration Reform -"Trump, Tamales and the American Family" by Margaret DonnellyMargaret Donnelly, emeritus attorney at law of Texas, certified in immigration and nationality law, proposes in her fifth book, Trump, Tamales and the American Family, that it's time to smash our culture of fear and follow the example of our World War II Greatest Generation, who built economies, exporting peace and prosperity throughout the world. Donnelly also suggests that we should invest in our American family--a family tree with roots and branches that stretch from the top of North America to the bottom of South America. It's time to join each other in a metaphorical kitchen, sharing resources and labor to produce a sacred meal, tamales, together, just as extended families of the Americas have been doing for ten thousand years. President Donald J. Trump--the Great Negotiator--is invited to this dinner table to remind him that he can help us move beyond a border wall toward a great transformation of the Americas.Margaret Donnelly is the author of "Bolívar's Heart", "The Path of Lord Jaguar", "The Spirits of Venezuela" and "The Song of the Goldencocks", which received Honorable Mention at the 2007 International Latino Book Awards in New York. The author received her doctor of jurisprudence and her bachelor of arts in Latin American studies from the University of Texas at Austin. In recognition for her community work, she was awarded the Presidential Community Service medal by the League of United Latin American Citizens of the United States (LULAC) in 2006. Born in Venezuela, she moved to the United States with her family at age 15. She now resides in Dallas, Texas, where she divides her time between her immigration law practice and writing.https://www.amazon.com/Tamales-American-Family-Margaret-Donnelly/dp/1977220746/ref=monarch_sidesheet_titlehttps://www.margaretadonnelly.com/www.ecpublishingllc.com http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/91825mdec.mp3
When Mackenzie Burnett began investigating the challenges facing today's farmers, one issue came up again and again: paperwork.
Guitarist Jeff Christiansen and bassist Larry Wiegand are Twin Cities guys who have performed together in the group Crow. In addition to that, Jeff and Larry have what you might call a side project going. The two of them, with help from some of their musical buddies have put out a recording of instrumental versions of great old songs. It is called Boday and the Big Wig plays the classics. When Jeff and Larry talked to Phil Nusbaum, Larry first talked about why they did it.

I say intriguing not just because they recently announced a $26.1M series A round in this tough environment to raise capital. But they are focused on what I would consider a not very flashy part of the industry, accounting software. Not a new concept. On the surface, it doesn't sound like one of those moonshot problems startups like to spin a narrative around like mitigating climate change or feeding the billions. But those of us who have spent time on farms or ranches know there are still plenty of opportunities for improvement in this area. And in just over 18 months of commercialization Ambrook already claims to have over 2,500 operations using their software. Another interesting part of their business is as they were building their financial management tool, they also launched their own media venture called Ambrook Research. They have since rebranded it to Off Range, but it boasts more than 150,000 newsletter subscribers to read stories about agriculture and food. But will all this lead to better outcomes for producers, a successful business for Ambrook and a more resilient agriculture in the future? That's what I wanted to know from Ambrook co-founder and CEO Mackenzie Burnett. Before starting this financial management software company, Mackenzie's prior experience was working in community nonprofits, water asset management, and open source software infrastructure. She holds an M.A. in international policy and climate security from Stanford University.
If you follow the bike industry, you probably saw the news earlier this year that Revel was shutting down. It caught a lot of people off guard, including customers, fans, and even some insiders. But just a few months later, found Adam Miller announced he was buying the brand back and relaunching Revel with a new vision. So today, we're going to talk about that journey—why Revel is going direct-to-consumer, what Adam learned during his time away from the company, and why he believes now is the right time to double down on building bikes again. Why bring Revel back now, especially given the challenges facing the bike industry? What were you doing between stepping away from Revel and deciding to buy the brand back? Why move to a direct-to-consumer model with the relaunch? What's wrong with the traditional dealer/distributor model for selling bikes? What financing options are available for building and growing a bike company today? How do you see smaller brands like Revel competing with the big players in the industry? What makes Revel different from other bike brands, especially in such a competitive marketWhat's one thing you're doing differently this time around based on your past experience? An automatically generated transcript will be available at Singletracks.com later today. Getting a start in cybersecurity has never been easy — but for today's aspiring pen testers, the entry barriers are even higher than they were a decade ago. In this conversation, Sean Martin and Marco Ciappelli sit down with Greg Hatcher and John Stigerwalt from White Knight Labs to unpack why they decided to flip the script on entry-level offensive security training.Greg, a former Army Special Operations communicator, and John, who got his break as a self-taught hacker, agree that the traditional path — expensive certifications and theoretical labs — doesn't reflect the reality of the work. That's why White Knight Labs is launching the Entry Level Pen Tester (ELPT) program. The idea is straightforward: make high-quality, practical training accessible to anyone, anywhere.Unlike other courses that focus purely on the technical side, the ELPT emphasizes the full skill set a junior pen tester needs. This means not just breaking into systems, but learning how to write clear reports, communicate effectively with clients, and operate as part of a real engagement team. John explains that even the best technical find is worthless if it's not explained properly or delivered with clear guidance for fixing the issue.Greg points out that the team culture at White Knight Labs borrows from his Special Forces days — small, specialized teams where each individual goes deep on a specific domain but works in tight coordination with others. Their goal for trainees mirrors this: to develop focused, practical skills while understanding how their piece fits into bigger, complex attack scenarios.Affordability and global access are key parts of the mission. The team wants the ELPT to open doors for people who might not have thousands to spend on training. By combining hands-on labs, in-depth modules, real-world scenarios, and a tough final exam, they aim to ensure that passing the ELPT means you're truly job-ready.For anyone considering a start in offensive security, this episode is a glimpse into a program designed to create more than just hackers — it's building adaptable, communicative professionals ready to hit the ground running.Learn more about White Knight Labs: https://itspm.ag/white-knight-labs-vukrGuests:John Stigerwalt | Founder at White Knight Labs | Red Team Operations Leader | https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-stigerwalt-90a9b4110/Greg Hatcher | Founder at White Knight Labs | SOF veteran | Red Team | https://www.linkedin.com/in/gregoryhatcher2/______________________Keywords: sean martin, marco ciappelli, greg hatcher, john stigerwalt, cybersecurity, pentesting, training, certification, whiteknightlabs, hacking, brand story, brand marketing, marketing podcast, brand story podcast______________________ResourcesVisit the White Knight Labs Website to learn more: https://itspm.ag/white-knight-labs-vukrLearn more and catch more stories from White Knight Labs on ITSPmagazine: https://www.itspmagazine.com/directory/white-knight-labsLearn more about ITSPmagazine Brand Story Podcasts: https://www.itspmagazine.com/purchase-programsNewsletter Archive: https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/tune-into-the-latest-podcasts-7109347022809309184/Business Newsletter Signup: https://www.itspmagazine.com/itspmagazine-business-updates-sign-upAre you interested in telling your story?https://www.itspmagazine.com/telling-your-story
In this week's episode, host Daniel Raimi talks with Varun Sivaram, senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and founder and CEO of Emerald AI, about how “climate realism” could shape the future of US climate policy. In a recent article for the Council on Foreign Relations, Sivaram lays out the case for climate realism—an approach to US climate policy that both realistically prepares for the consequences of climate change and advances American foreign policy objectives. Sivaram explains and defends his arguments for climate realism, which include contentious claims about the feasibility of reaching global climate targets, US contributions to global emissions, and the economic benefits of the clean energy transition. Sivaram then outlines an alternative vision for US climate policy that promotes investments in clean technology and action in the international arena to mitigate the worst consequences of climate change. Guest post by Brian O' Toole, Consumption and Software Sales Leader at Dell Technologies AI is rapidly reshaping the business landscape, making digital transformation not just a priority but a necessity for Irish organisations. Yet as companies look to harness its potential, they often find themselves navigating increasingly complex IT environments - a challenge that can feel overwhelming for businesses of all sizes. Whether it's navigating cloud migration or staying secure and scaling AI projects or even just managing day-to-day IT workloads with limited resources, there's one thing we keep hearing from businesses and organisations alike is that 'we need to simplify'. At Dell Technologies, we've seen these challenges firsthand - and that's why we're helping organisations embrace technology as-a-Service. Adopting this approach can help simplify operations, modernise IT infrastructure, and give businesses the agility they need to innovate at speed in the AI era. A Fresh Approach to IT Management Today, IT teams face a perfect storm of priorities from business leaders responding to external challenges. These priorities pressure IT leaders to do more with less as they get operations teams to innovate while addressing expanding regulatory frameworks around data. All these pressures and potentially competing priorities increase the risk of IT decision sprawl that could solve problems in one area while adding complexity in others. To help IT and business leaders navigate this environment and shift IT costs from capital expenditure (CapEx) to operational expenditure (OpEx), Dell APEX Cloud Platforms provide integrated infrastructure management that reduces multicloud complexity while strengthening security and governance. APEX is a portfolio of fully integrated, turnkey systems that integrate Dell infrastructure, software and cloud operating stacks to deliver consistent multicloud operations. By extending cloud operating models to on-premises and edge environments, Dell APEX Cloud Platforms bridge the cloud divide by delivering consistent cloud operations everywhere. With Dell APEX Cloud Platforms, you can: Minimize multicloud costs and complexity in the cloud ecosystem of your choice. Increase application value by accelerating productivity with familiar experiences that enable you to develop anywhere and deploy everywhere. Improve security and governance by enforcing consistent cloud ecosystem management from cloud to edge and enhancing control with layered security. The shift to an As-a-Service approach gives businesses control without the chaos. Whether a scaling startup or an established large business planning to advance their Multicloud solutions or leverage AI-driven applications, they can get access to latest technology such as storage, servers, devices and cloud services - on demand with only the cost for what they use. Enabling organisations to innovate in an AI and Multicloud era For organisations, the shift to an as-a-service model is not just about simplifying IT systems, it's about ensuring they can unlock innovation and growth. Businesses can pay for what they use which aligns technology investment to actual value and usage. This approach is especially critical for costly infrastructure such as GPUs, servers, and storage which all require substantial investment. By spreading costs over time, organisations in Ireland can forge a cost-effective pathway to leveraging cutting-edge AI capabilities without being locked into long-term technology commitments. In Ireland, we're seeing a growing appetite for more agile, scalable IT models, especially among businesses embracing AI, hybrid work, and Multicloud strategies. As the debate between public and private clouds are fading, Multicloud ecosystems are the future, and Dell APEX is leading the charge. With partnerships spanning hyper scalers like Microsoft, Red Hat, VMware, and Google Cloud, Dell APEX delivers simplified IT management across environments. Dell APEX innovatio...

Traditional sales skills may not be sufficient to overcome the challenges faced by sales teams today. A new approach is needed to end rising disengagement, stress and burnout, and equip sales leaders to lead their teams confidently to success. That’s according to Anna Glynn, who says leaders need to ensure that their teams have the mindset and toolset – not just the skillset – to succeed in sales. She calls these the off-field factors and they relate to the resources available that help achieve long-term sustainable performance. Do your teachers ever come to you with perceived problems they want your help solving? It's easy to get caught up in trying to solve every issue that comes your way, but what if some of those "problems" aren't really problems at all? In this episode, I share a powerful coaching conversation I had with a principal who was struggling with a teacher collaboration issue. We uncovered some key insights about how we can sometimes create our own problems by making assumptions and trying to force everyone to fit into the same box. I invite you to consider a different approach to teacher collaboration - one that allows for flexibility, diversity, and acceptance among our staff members. By embracing individual differences and empowering teachers to find creative solutions, we can create a more harmonious and effective school culture. Your love-hate relationship with social media is costing you more opportunities than you realize. As the founder of a seven-figure design agency that built its success through Instagram, I've watched countless entrepreneurs try to escape social media marketing. The truth is, if you're planning to run an online business, you need to work through your thoughts about marketing yourself online - because the platform changes won't stop with Instagram. Whether it's FTC regulations affecting email marketing, YouTube algorithm updates, or LinkedIn's latest features, there's always going to be the "next big thing" in social media. The key isn't to fight it or hate it - it's to choose your hard and love your hard. After making multiple six figures from Instagram without a huge following, I've learned that success comes from understanding what your current audience wants and strategically attracting new people. In this episode, I break down why you actually hate social media and how to shift your perspective to see it as an opportunity rather than a burden. You'll learn practical strategies for overcoming burnout, creating sustainable content, and building a platform that serves your business rather than drains your energy. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • Why your hate for social media is deeper than algorithm changes • How to identify the root cause of your social media burnout • The three essential elements every marketing platform needs • Why switching platforms won't solve your underlying issues • Practical steps to make social media work for your business, not against it Connect with me: Website Join our email list! Welcome to the What's Next! Podcast with Tiffani Bova. In this LinkedIn Live, I had the wonderful honor of welcoming my dear friend, Seth Godin, who I met in 2001 through his book Purple Cow, which is one of my all-time favorite books. Along the way, Seth has always been a great supporter of me and my career. Today, I'm eager to discuss Seth's latest book, This Is Strategy: Make Better Plans. THIS EPISODE IS PERFECT FOR…anyone who wants a fresh perspective on leadership and strategy. TODAY'S MAIN MESSAGE…strategy isn't a lofty document or annual exercise. It's a compass guiding every decision you make. Seth challenges the conventional idea of strategy as static and instead frames it as a dynamic, iterative process of becoming. He shares nuggets of wisdom from his new book, which he says is a love letter for the people he cares about. KEY TAKEAWAYS… Fear is often the thing that holds people back from making bold decisions. False proxies, like easy-to-measure but irrelevant metrics, can misguide your focus. The best leaders inspire action by focusing on the “why” behind their strategies. WHAT I LOVE MOST…Seth's thoughts on practical empathy. He says it's easy to become attached to something because you've worked hard on it. Practical empathy is understanding your audience and imagining what they need, even if that means reinventing your offerings. It's a call to lead with both courage and care. Welcome to another episode of ADHD Support Talk Radio, the longest-running podcast dedicated to helping adults with ADHD. Hosted by Tara McGillicuddy, a woman with ADHD and a long-time advocate for the ADHD community, this episode takes a deep dive into one of the most common struggles for individuals with ADHD—productivity and planning. As we usher in 2025, many people find themselves facing the overwhelming task of setting goals and creating a plan for the year. However, for those of us with ADHD, this process can be a source of stress, self-doubt, and procrastination. In this episode, Tara addresses a listener's question about how to approach planning for the year ahead, breaking down big goals into manageable tasks. The listener shares their frustration with underestimating how long tasks will take, and how this leads to a mad dash to finish things, often leaving them disappointed with the results. This self-criticism and limiting belief mindset can be a major roadblock for anyone with ADHD trying to plan effectively. Tara's response may surprise you: she suggests that sometimes, it might be best to stop planning entirely—or at least not in the traditional sense. Planning can be overwhelming, and for those with ADHD, it can often lead to more stress and a sense of paralysis. Tara explains that while planning has its place, trying to plan for an entire year, especially with ADHD, may not be the best approach. Instead, Tara encourages listeners to focus on the present and work in smaller, more manageable chunks of time. She explains that our brains can only handle so much at once. When we try to plan for 365 days, it's no wonder we feel overwhelmed. Instead, Tara advises starting with just one task at a time and creating a rough guide or schedule for the day. This allows for flexibility, acknowledging that things like energy levels and unexpected events will impact how much can be accomplished on any given day. She highlights the importance of factoring in padding, or extra time, to avoid stress and accommodate life's unpredictability. One of Tara's key suggestions is to use action blocks—short bursts of focused work. Whether it's 20-minute or 30-minute intervals, these shorter sessions help combat the overwhelm of a long to-do list. Tara recommends setting a timer during these action blocks, with the timer placed in a visible area, to help stay focused and accountable. She explains that having a visual timer can be a powerful tool for ADHD minds, providing structure while keeping the focus on the task at hand. Additionally, Tara encourages flexibility with time. When estimating how long a task will take, it's important to add some padding to the estimate. Whether it's a phone call or a larger project, things rarely take the exact amount of time we anticipate. By adding extra time, you give yourself the freedom to adjust without the added pressure of unrealistic expectations. Throughout the episode, Tara acknowledges that the goal is not to be perfect but to make progress. It's about tweaking strategies and making small changes that work for you. She also shares exciting news about her upcoming 5 Day Action Challenge and a free Ask Me Anything webinar on January 13th, where she'll dive deeper into ADHD productivity strategies. Tune in to this episode for practical, ADHD-friendly advice on how to approach your productivity goals for 2025. More than one in five people in Baltimore live in a food desert, which the city calls “Healthy Food Priority Areas.” More than 30% of people who live a quarter-mile from an affordable grocery store in the city are African American. A quick trip to a full-service grocery store, or a trip for a week's worth of food, is made harder when supermarkets are farther away. Convenience stores and small corner markets fill in the gap, but they rarely offer produce or affordable prices. The residents in neighborhoods near the B&O Railroad Museum were part of that grim statistic until recently. A new store in the Mount Clare Junction shopping plaza, JumboFresh Supermarket, features a wide variety of foods and products catering to the culturally-diverse clientele of nearby neighborhoods. Improving food access is crucial for the health and wellbeing of city residents. Today, a discussion about how this new store came to open in Southwest Baltimore, its unique business model and what it means to the residents of the surrounding areas. Are there lessons other neighborhoods can replicate? We begin with Bif Browning, the President of the Union Square Association, and Jonathan Tejada, a JumboFresh staff member. Later in the program, we talk to Baltimore City 10th District Councilwoman Phylicia Porter, and Carrie Baniszewski, the Executive Director of the neighborhood development nonprofit Pigtown Main Street.Email us at midday@wypr.org, tweet us: @MiddayWYPR, or call us at 410-662-8780.
