Abounding Love Podcast with Former ”Tex” Watson

The Heart of Man episode defines the Inner Man as the non-material part of a person, which the Bible often identifies as the "heart". While the outward man consists of the physical body [Greek: soma] and its senses, the inward man is comprised of both the Spirit [Greek: pneuma] and soul [Greek: psyche]. A crucial distinction is made between these two (2) internal components: the Spirit is the part of the heart [core] that must be regenerated or "born again" to establish a relationship with God, whereas the soul [mind, will and emotions] is the part that must be renewed day by day. This foundational concept is drawn from 2nd Corinthians 4:16, which explains that though the outward man perishes, the inward man is renewed daily. Before salvation, the human heart is described as "desperately wicked" (Jeremiah 17:9) and influenced by a "spirit of disobedience" (Ephesians 2:2). In this unregenerated state, the spirit and soul are aligned in ungodliness, producing evil thoughts and actions that defile the person [Matthew 15:18-20]. True transformation occurs after the spirit is made new; the power of God then works from the inside out to change the soul. As noted in Romans 12:2, believers are called to be "transformed by the renewing of your mind," a process where changing one's thoughts leads to stable emotions and righteous physical actions, reflecting the "good treasures" now held within the heart (Matthew 12:35). Join me as I delve deeper into these Scriptures and more to reveal how to define the heart of man and its transformation in the life of a believer. Selah! Leadership often stalls at the level of internal formation, not external strategy. In this episode of the AVAIL podcast, Mark and Julie Appleyard, founders of Anothen Global, explore how unresolved inner dynamics shape decision-making, identity, and long-term impact. Drawing from Julie's The Boardroom of the Inner Man and their global work with leaders, they offer a clear framework for understanding the internal “voices” that compete for control and how to bring them into alignment under Christ. This conversation equips leaders to move beyond surface solutions and address what is actually driving their leadership.

Love and Torah – what's love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor. The study begins with Ephesians 3:14. In this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson expounds on ‘Strengthening the Inner Man'. If your inner man is weak, you will fall short of the finish line and not complete the race. • How do you identify your weaknesses? • What are the “inner man exercises”? What do you do to strengthen those areas? • How do the trials and challenges in your life help you? • Who are the coaches or trainers who encourage and help you in your training? Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, enabling you to do it and receive the blessings. https://mtoi.org The MTOI App https://mtoi.org/download-the-mtoi-app https://www.facebook.com/mtoiworldwide https://www.instagram.com/mtoi_worldwide Contact MTOI: admin@mtoi.org (423) 250-3020 Join us LIVE (all times Eastern): Torah Study, Fridays 7:30 pm Shabbat Service, Saturdays 1:15 pm Streaming available on YouTube, Rumble, MTOI App, and mtoi.org

In this message from the life of Nehemiah, we discover how God turns a burdened heart into a clear and actionable vision. Before Nehemiah ever rebuilt a wall, he had first been a faithful servant, patiently positioned by God in a place of influence. When the moment came, that inward devotion produced outward leadership—foresight that anticipated obstacles, insight that understood the real condition of God's people, and strategy that mobilized others toward a shared mission. Through Nehemiah's prayerful courage and careful planning, we see that biblical vision is not merely inspiration—it is obedience expressed through wise leadership. This sermon invites us to consider whether we are faithfully preparing for the vision God may one day entrust to us, and whether we are ready to lead when the opportunity arrives.

What happens when connection becomes optional and isolation starts to feel normal? On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, hosted by Yusuf, we explore why more young men are quietly retreating into screens—and what that withdrawal is really trying to protect. This episode is for parents, partners, mentors, and young men who feel stuck between pressure and numbness. Guest David Savage unpacks how texting, gaming loops, fear of judgment, and fatherlessness can shape modern masculinity—and why small, relational shifts (not shame) can invite men back into real connection. About the Guest: David Savage is a father of four and the host of the podcast Wrestling with the Inner Man. He's also the author of The Savage Path: A Memoir of Modern Masculinity, focused on helping young men reconnect with purpose and faith. Episode Chapters: 00:05:53 — When isolation becomes the new normal 00:07:16 — The first signs: texting replacing real conversation 00:08:14 — What changed in public life: earbuds, avoidance, disconnection 00:10:03 — Why “screen addiction” is an incomplete explanation 00:13:17 — The pressures young men carry that make retreat feel safer 00:18:17 — How isolation shows up in dating, college, and work 00:22:06 — Small shifts that help: mentorship and intergenerational support Key Takeaways: Treat isolation as a signal, not a character flaw—ask what it's protecting. Replace “lectures” with low-pressure invitations: a walk, a task, a shared hobby. Build real-world confidence through small skill reps (conversation, meetings, eye contact). Prioritize mentorship: a steady older guide can reduce shame and confusion. Watch for “shortcut culture” (easy wins, constant stimulation) and restore healthy challenge. Create spaces where young men can be honest without feeling judged or “fixed.” How to Connect With the Guest: Website: https://thesavagepath.com/  Podcast: Wrestling with the Inner Man (Apple & Spotify) Book: The Savage Path: A Memoir of Modern Masculinity   Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life? Many Christians sense that God has a purpose for their life, yet the gap between the mission and their everyday decisions can feel frustratingly wide. In this message from Nehemiah 1, we discover how God forms vision in the heart long before it ever appears in our actions. Nehemiah begins not as a builder or leader, but as a man burdened by a broken city and driven to prayer—and from that burden God shapes a vision that ultimately transforms a nation. In this sermon, we will explore the three inward traits that give birth to true vision—and ultimately fruitful disciples.

Lots of people are reflecting on their lives at this time of the year. They feel the disconnect between who they are and who they want to be. All the devil offers is death, destruction, and loss, but Jesus is offering the opposite of that. The “full” life He offers means of the highest quality. It means an abundance, but it starts on the inside. Jesus said in Matthew that what’s on the inside will make its way to the outside. What you are full of on the inside will be obvious through your words and actions. That principle is true for good stuff and for bad stuff. Jesus said that what comes out of your mouth is the overflow of your heart, so if you want your life to look different, you have to change what’s going on inside. This week, we’re kicking off a new series focused on this concept, and we’re starting with the importance of love.

Todaywe're specifically looking at Ephesians 3:16. Two things we're going to talkabout and that's, “the riches of His glory” and “in the inner man”.As we look at this passage of scripture, we realize that the power of the HolySpirit is given to us “according to the riches of His glory”. Christreturned to glory. But remember He said, "If I don't go away, I can'tsend the Holy Spirit. But if I go away, I will send the Comforter, the HolySpirit." (John 14; John 16:7). Christ returned to glory and sent theHoly Spirit from heaven to indwell and to empower His people.  So,it's not necessary for us to work something up. The power of God has been sentdown. Jesus said, "Tarry at Jerusalem till the power of the Holy Spiritis come upon you." (Acts 1:4-8). They did tarry and the HolySpirit, 10 days later, on the day of Pentecost, came down upon them. The HolySpirit was sent down. The Holy Spirit is the “gift of God” according tothose first passages of Scripture in the book of Acts (Acts 2:38; 8:20; 10:45;11:17). Now the Holy Spirit dwells in us and empowers us.  Goddoesn't give us the Holy Spirit's power out of His riches, but “according toHis riches” and that is a far greater thing. If I'm a billionaire and Igive you $10, I've given you out of my riches. But if I give you a milliondollars, I have given you according to my riches. The first is a portion, butmy friend, the second is a proportion. Oh, God has His riches in heaven thatare immeasurable, unfathomable, endless, eternal. He gives you not out of Hisriches but “according to the riches of His glory”. Nowvery interesting this power is available for “the inner man”.This means the spiritual part of man where God dwells and God lives in us. Weread in Romans 8:16; “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit thatwe are the children of God”. The inner man of the lost sinner is dead (Ephesians2:1), but that inner spirit becomes alive when the Holy Spirit of Christ,Christ Himself comes to indwell us. We find that the inner mancan see in Psalm 119:18, "Open mine eyes that I may see wondrous thingsout of your law." The inner man can hear Matthew13:9, Jesus said, "He who has ears, let him hear."  “Theinner man”has taste in Psalm 34:8; “Taste and see that the Lord is good”. We findwe can feel with the inner man (Acts 17:27). According to 1 Timothy 4:7-8,we find that bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness exercises greatprofit for those who trust and believe in Him. The outward man is perishing. But the inner man, the inner man can be renewed day by day in spite of thephysical outward decay that takes place. I love that passage in 2 Corinthians4:16-18: “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man isperishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our lightaffliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceedingand eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen aretemporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal”.  Whatdoes it mean to have the Holy Spirit empower “the inner man”? Itmeans that our spiritual faculties are controlled by God, and we are exercisingthem and growing in the Word (Hebrews 5:12-14). It is only when we yield to theSpirit and let Him control the inner man that we succeed in living to the gloryof God. This means we are feeding the inner man the Word of God, praying andworshiping, keeping clean, and exercising the senses by loving obedience. MayGod help us to trust Him today to have that strength that only He can give forHis glory and for His ministry of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ withthe world around us.  Godbless!

The Interior Life – Maintenance of the Inner Man -- Part 8: The Body; Giving Life to the Spirit Soul MESSAGE SUMMARY: It is important to understand the Spirit in our inner beings. The Spirit is that part of us which enables us to commune with the Lord – it is that part of us in which the Holy Spirit indwells when we become a Christian and through which God speaks to us. Without Jesus, we are not fully alive because, without Jesus one has a dead Spirit. The Spirit, body and soul are all interconnected; and neglecting one adversely effects the other two. The Psalmist defines this interconnection in Psalms 63:1: “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.". If our bodies are out of sorts, our Spirits and Souls can be adversely impacted. To optimize the effect of our bodies on our Souls and Spirits, we need to consider: 1) an eating plan that helps us live; 2) exercise so that we can be all that we can be for the Lord; 3) adequate sleep and rest; and 4) righteousness. Paul tells about God's perspective of our bodies in 1 Corinthians 6:19 20 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.". If we want to maintain our interior life, we must maintain our earth suits; this body that God has given us. Don't ignore the power of prayer to help in keeping our body, Soul, and Spirit interconnected and in positive rhythm. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24: “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it."   TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, Sabbath rest is truly an unbelievable gift! Thank you that there is nothing I can do to earn your love; it comes without any strings attached. As I close my eyes for these few minutes before you, all I can say is, thank you! In Jesus' name, amen.  Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 133). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A CHILD OF GOD. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. The Interior Life – Maintenance of the Inner Man -- Part 7: A Listening Spirit MESSAGE SUMMARY: Paul, in 1 Thessalonians 5:23, describes the characteristics of the inner life and the maintenance of the inner man: “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.". The Spirit is that part of us that communes with the Lord when we become a Christian. Without Jesus, we are not fully alive because, without Jesus one has a dead Spirit. It is by Grace that we are saved and then our faith in Jesus awakens our Spirit. We listen to and for the Lord with the Holy Spirit. God desires to speak to His people. God wants to speak to us and tell us about things in our lives like what His will is for us. However, we live in a noisy world; therefore, listening to and for the Lord is difficult. All the noise in the world and in our lives, has conditioned our Spirit to be dulled in listening to and for the Lord. Our Spirit is constantly under bombardment and distraction. As God spoke in Psalms 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”. With the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as Christians, God will speak to us in a variety of ways: 1) through the still small voice; 2) as we study the Bible – the Lord's voice is both His spoken Word and in His written Word; 3) in our prayer, which is both talking and listening to God; 4) through teachings and sermons; 5) through our Christian friends; 6) through music; and 7) through the desires of our hearts, as the Psalmist tell us  in Psalms 37:4: “Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.".  However, be careful trusting the word from yourself if you are not in the Holy Spirit. We need to be to listen to and for the Lord. These are exercises, in our lives, that we can practice to tune our Listening Spirit to the Lord: 1) build times of silence in our lives; 2) practice solitude – being quit and alone with the Lord; 3) read and study His Word; 4) pray in intercessory prayer – talk to God in the behalf of others; 5) keep a prayer journal; and 6) obey God – when God speaks to us, He expects us to obey, as we find in Jeremiah 7:23: “But this command I gave them: ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.'". If we don't obey the Lord, He will quit speaking to us: “What's the point?”.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Help me to trust you with all that will remain unfinished and to enjoy my humble place in your very large world. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 129). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! (Luke 11:13). The Interior Life – Maintenance of the Inner Man -- Part 6: The Spirit MESSAGE SUMMARY: Introduction from Part 4 – We must take responsibility for our own emotions and stop blaming others. Emotions are the color of our inner life, but we must control our emotions, or our emotions will control us. Constantly remember God's presence is with us. What would happen if we really lived our lives knowing that God is always with us? Today's Message – It is important to understand the Spirit in our inner beings. The Spirit is that part of us which enables us to commune with the Lord – it is that part of us in which the Holy Spirit indwells when we become a Christian and through which God speaks to us. Paul, in 1 Thessalonians 5:23, describes the characteristics of the inner life and the maintenance of the inner man: “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.". Without Jesus, we are not fully alive because, without Jesus one has a dead Spirit. It is by Grace that we are saved and that our faith in Jesus awakens our Spirit. In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus tells us that we are to assist in awakening the Spirit in others – discipleship. We can nurture our Spirit through: 1) daily Bible reading; 2) daily prayer – talking to and listening to God; 3) Worship, both corporate and individual; 4) partaking of Holy Communion; 5) abiding, John 15:4 – “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.”; 6) obeying God; 7) fellowship with like-minded believers; and 8) witnessing and sharing Jesus with others.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, Sabbath rest is truly an unbelievable gift! Thank you that there is nothing I can do to earn your love; it comes without any strings attached. As I close my eyes for these few minutes before you, all I can say is, thank you! Paul says these false teachers have seared their conscience with a hot iron. This practice goes way back to the Egyptians who would take something, stick it in a fire, get it super-hot, then stick that hot object to a wound which would seal it up, kill infection, and it would heal faster. It is the same idea today of branding an animal. These false teachers have sealed themselves from the truth of God and are teaching false doctrine that Paul says comes from demons and they are leading people astray from Jesus! He sends Timothy in the heat of the battle and tells him to cling to his faith and keep his conscience clear!

How do we get comfortable in our own skin? What is faith and how can we strengthen it? Rabbi Schneider shares that God wants to manifest His power in our lives today. Most people live from the outside in, rather than the inside out. Paul teaches us to abide with the Holy Spirit inside our inner man, living life from the inside out, and not by getting our affirmation from the world outside us. Our identity and peace do not come from the world, but from God. Learn on today's episode of Discovering the Jewish Jesus that we can strengthen our faith by embracing the Holy Spirit within us. Faith is real, has power, and helps us to think God's thoughts. Faith casts out fear. When we know we are loved, protected, and can trust God's promises then we are loving and walk in love. The more we grow in Christ, the more we can love other people. **** BECOME A MONTHLY PARTNER - https://djj.show/YTAPartner   **** DONATE - https://djj.show/YTADonate  **** TEACHING NOTES -  https://djj.show/3q1   Visit our website at DiscoveringTheJewishJesus.com
