She admits there was a lot about caregiving that she didn't know but knowing that she loved her mom she quickly learned what she needed to know. Breeda wrote the book she wished she'd had when she was trying to figure things out. Then she wrote another book and the play which she is taking to stages across North America. In February 2016, the Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Association conferred one of its two 2016 Island Treasure Awards on Cameron Snow. Since she picked up her first camcorder in 2000, painter, sculptor, world traveler and now filmmaker Cameron Snow has produced over a dozen films documenting the life and environment of Bainbridge Island.  Newly designated as one of this year's Island Treasures, Cameron and her diplomat husband, Chris Snow, have lived in many interesting countries, but it wasn't until they chose to retire on Bainbridge Island that she turned her artistic eye as a painter and sculptor to filmmaking.  In the 16 years since she began filming, she has honed her creative talents by producing and directing over a dozen films about the island, including Return of the Plankton, Forest in the City, The Geological Formation of Bainbridge Island, BIMA, Here we go!, Offerings (Exhibition at BIMA), Inner Zoo Outer Orbit (Exhibition at BIMA), the Sakai Family of Bainbridge Island, Leaving our Island Forum Day, and Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra Performs Peter & the Wolf. Listen here as Cameron describes how she first became interested in filmmaking and gives us some insight into the complex process of turning an idea into a full-length film (or three, in the case of the Geological Formation of Bainbridge Island).   Like her first full-length film, Return of the Plankton, and her current work on geological formation, many of her films have contributed to our understanding of our local ecology, and have been used by educators and researchers to study our environment. But she's also made several films about artists and music on Bainbridge Island, sharing her appreciation of this island community’s richness in the arts. Despite her new career as a filmmaker, Cameron continues to find time for her painting and sculpture -- and she doesn't see her filmmaking as a departure from the other art forms that have long been part of her life. As she says, everything we've ever done informs whatever we do next.  Fortunately for us on Bainbridge Island, Cameron’s curiosity about the environment around her and her artistic skill in representing what she learns will continue to inform, educate and entertain this community for generations. Diane Bonciolini and Gregg Mesmer have been making beautiful glass together as Mesolini since 1977.  Earlier this year, they were named Island Treasures for 2015 by the Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council. Their familiar installations -- the Beach Glass Quilt on Winslow Way; the artwork at Rotary Centennial Park; and the installations at the Bainbridge Library and at The Waypoint across from the Art Museum -- are easily recognizable for their signature fused glass style. For Diane and Gregg, their community spirit is evident in all they do -- from teaching and coaching at the public schools to leading the glass workers at the Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN). Each of them has contributed many hours and materials to our schools, designing murals and teaching kids the joy of working together creatively.  They have introduced scores of people to the art of glass through classes and joint community projects. Always eager to support other artists and nurture new talent, Gregg and Diane were also founding members of The Studio Tour and part of the core group that established the Working Studio Group. Their latest effort includes support of the BARN, a nonprofit that has an interim multi-faceted facility at Rolling Bay and is seeking fund and build a new center for community creativity focused on craft and invention. Gregg and Diane are excellent examples of artists who have created a sense of community around their work.  Get to know them better in this intimate BCB interview on Who's on Bainbridge. George and David Lewis are internationally celebrated artists, sculptors, garden masters and Renaissance men who thrive among the flora and fountains planted and carved by their own hands on Bainbridge Island. They have been honored in 2007 with the Island Treasure Award by the Bainbridge Island Arts & Humanities Council in acknowledgement for their excellence in garden art and sculpture. In this episode of “Who's On Bainbridge,” BCB host Annie Osburn interviews George and David Lewis (formerly known as Little and Lewis) about their multi-faceted and fascinating lives on Bainbridge.  Perhaps best-known for their unique concrete sculptures of giant gunnera leaves, rustic columns and fountains, the Lewis's began their magical garden gallery in 1992. Quickly, the garden became renowned for its art, water features, naturally evolving “rooms” and compelling mix of plants—from English garden to Tropicalismo. The garden gallery was open to thousands of visitors for nearly two decades. In their early days, George (formerly Little) and David Lewis joined artistic and life forces over the installation of one simple thing – a fountain designed by George and purchased by David for his home. Their effort inspired the creation of a water-gardening business and years of creative collaboration punctuated by vibrant color, big nature and Mexican flourishes. In 2005, the Lewis's published a book about their magnificent garden, A Garden Gallery: The Plants, Art and Hardscape of Little and Lewis, which was awarded the Silver Medal for Best Garden Book of 2006 by the Garden Writer's Association. Today, George and David devote their time to giving back to the community and philanthropic efforts with local non-profit organizations. David serves on the boards of the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art and Bloedel Reserve.  Credits:  BCB interviewer Annie Osburn; BCB audio editor and composer of "Who's On" music, Tim Bird; BCB ferry music: Dogfish Bay Studios; logo art: artopia creative.
