When this week’s guest Dan Bonebrake (The Lightworkers, The Honest Liars, Dashboard Confessional) came back from Desert Storm he was searching for something, and he soon discovered a record that seemed to embody that same vague sense of “emotional wanderlust” he was feeling in an under-30-minute package of guitar-pop bliss. 1992’s “It’s a Shame About Ray” by The Lemonheads is a shockingly joyous slice of indie-rock perfection almost guaranteed to get under your skin – or at least in-between your ears – for days. At this week's Round Table, Eliza (our correspondent from Real Talk), Inica, Isaiah, and Madeline spoke with...each other. That's right, no guests this week--by design! Much as we love having amazing guests join us each week, we realized we don't have enough opportunity to be in conversation with one another and plan to devote an episode to internal conversation every month or two. This week, we spoke about the Vice Presidential Debate between Kamala Harris and Michael Pence, transparency in politics, and what impact Donald Trump's COVID diagnosis will have on anything and anyone. Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to. This is a collection of highlights from shows forty nine to fifty four, featuring Suzy Norman on Hugo The Hippo, Richard Littler on the episode of The Waltons with a Poltergeist, Gary Bainbridge on Radio City's Jack Your Body parody Deadly Boring, Tim Worthington on It's A Shame by Kris Kross, Phil Catterall on the On The Hour Christmas Special, Ben Baker on Now - The Christmas Album, Mitch Benn on Two-Stage Self-Assembly Ice Cream Cones, and Darrell Maclaine on Blockbusters Bubblegum. Along the way we'll be finding out what Richard Stilgoe rhymed with ‘poltergeist’, speculating on what local radio’s obsession with records with ‘Of The’ in the title was all about, recounting how the cast of The Sullivans got caught up in a South-East turf war, debating Steve Ditko’s role in the invention of Cornetto, going to see a time-travelling Candy Flip, investigating how the ‘Hand Jive’ era of Blockbusters was entirely illicitly funded by holes in grandparents’ pockets, revisiting Peter Skellern’s ‘Lurpak Years’, lamenting the terrible fate of the Breakaway theme music, and unveiling our new foolproof scheme for alluding to now-disgraced celebrities without actually naming them. Plus there's also a bit of extra chat with Richard about an unusual BBC showing of 2001: A Space Osyssey, and something you might not have heard before - Tim on The Zeitgeist Tapes talking to Emma Burnell and Steve Fielding about the long-forgotten Clangers Election Special Vote For Froglet! You can find the full editions of all of these shows - and plenty more besides - at http://timworthington.org/
Ep 15: Chew, Chew, Chew & Swallow by It's A Shame
Timeline: Intro- 2:10 William joins the show- Welcome and Film Talk- 7:27 Saints Talk- 38:20 Outro- 1:14:45 Saints failed, for the 4th time running, to avoid a loss at St.Mary’s. It wasn’t 0-9 this time, but in all honesty, it wasn’t that much better. After going down early Saints simply meandered, seemingly directionless and without much passion, towards halftime. Saints started with a back 3. The same back 3 that stood so firmly for so long against Manchester City just a week ago, but by allowing the early goal, and with Stuart Armstrong stuck in as a Right Wing-Back, it was all going wrong for Saints. Halftime brought changes and the Boufal created Saints first shot just moments after coming on. He then provided the assist for Danny Ings. After that, Saints settled back into the all-to-familiar and slowly let the game slip away from them. Richarlison eventually gave the visitors the lead, and Everton secured their first away win of the season. The result has left Saints in the relegation zone and Saints fans particularly flummoxed. That’s the context for this week’s show. Another poor performance, another relegation fight, another match where the players seem to be coasting, another season where the manager doesn’t seem to know his best side. It’s crushing to all of us, and it definitely makes doing things like this show harder. This week, though, I’m joined by a familiar voice. Not to this show, but around the Saints FC community. He’s appeared on the Saints FC Podcast, The Ugly Inside, on this week’s Total Saints Podcast and here. He writes and talks he gardens and he’s all around just pretty great. We spend a lot of this week talking about his new film, The Name, written by William and shot in a single day in three locations in England. It’s a lot of fun and well worth 20 minutes of your time. William and his team have more coming and we discuss that as well. We discuss pretty much everything because I did not want to talk about the match, but we eventually did. Danielle & Lily are joined by very special guests: spouses extraordinaire and creators of the It's A Shame theme song: Jamey & Stefanie! This week we are talking about guilty pleasures. From questionable food choices to, um, interesting musical interests (as well as some tangents on 80s and 90s movies), we probably should be ashamed of these tastes ... but are we?
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to. This time Tim's the guest, talking to Garreth F. Along the way we'll be finding out how the cast of The Sullivans got caught up in a South-East turf war, attempting to define the Drop The Dead Donkey Font, puzzling over how Dracula can logistically get 'revenge', and querying how far Roger Lloyd Pack was from any falling-through-bar incident at any given point in time. Back in 2010, actress Greta Gerwig was the loopy, optimistic lifeforce in Noah Baumbach’s otherwise bitter and cynical “Greenberg.” She went on to co-write and star in a pair of Baumbach films before making her own directing debut this fall with LADY BIRD. The autobiographical film is set in 2002 and stars Saoirse Ronan as the strong-willed Gerwig stand-in with Laurie Metcalf as her equally tough mom. Ronan's "Lady Bird" may be an iconoclast, but Adam and Josh are only too happy to conform to the critical consensus that Gerwig's film is one of the year's best. So all this time You had to live What no one wants to feel There's nothing left You wouldn't give For any way to heal And you try your best To change your fate Till one day you find It's much too late There are times When it hurts To carry on And you know It's a shame To carry on You heard them say Don't ask for much Then that's what you'll recieve When all you need Is that human touch You struggle to believe As you try to make some sense Of what you've done All you've left to dream about Is what has gone There are times When it hurts To carry on And you know It's a shame To carry on

Andreas & Kel recap the terrible WWE Survivor Series and Monday Night Raw and wonder WTF was all that crap. Is Sheamus the right pick for champ? Is the WWE trying to make us sympathize with Roman Reigns like we did Daniel Bryan? What the hell was that lousy squash match with The Brothers of Destruction vs. The Wyatt Family? Why are Charlotte & Paige like awkward dance partners? Why does the product suck so bad right now??? Elsewhere, we also recap Canelo Alvarez big victory against Miguel Cotto and what it means for Canelo's future as well as the difficult time Roc Nation had with their boxers this weekend. Finally, we analyze the Jon Jones interview with MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani and why we aren't buying any of this crap that he's spewing. Enjoy!
