I might be more bullish on Jack Rubin's Purdy & Figg than any other brand on which I've personally worked. That's because not only does the UK-based natural cleaning product brand have the core financial markers of a successful subscription brand (ridiculous repeat rate, low churn, good margins), but it's co-founder and co-CEO, Jack Rubin, has all the markers of a successful ecommerce operator (smart, humble, relentlessly focused on the drivers of his shareholder value–especially contribution margin). Even after working with Jack as a business coach for months, I was repeatedly knocked back by his insights. Frankly, this is one of the most insight-loaded episodes I've ever released. Soak it up. Back in 2018, NHS nurse Purdy Rubin and horticulturalist Charlotte Figg decided to make cleaning products they'd actually feel good using – both for themselves and for the environment. Spurred on by Purdy's two sons, Charlie and Jack, the duo teamed up with Chemist Dr Anna Slastanova to develop a range of natural, beautifully-scented and refillable cleaning products that could stand up against the ‘big guns'. They launched their hero product, Counter Clean, at the beginning of 2022 and haven't looked back since. The game changing cleaner has been designed to clean all surfaces in the home whilst leaving behind the most incredible spa-like scent. In this episode Jack talks us through the journey so far from buying their own production line in a once in a lifetime deal to structuring their marketing flow to sell out again and again. Jack turned his company's churn rates upside down by changing his strategy around frequency and price. On this episode of Subscription Radio, Ben and Jack chat about his tips for reducing churn rate, which companies should (and shouldn't) move to a subscription model, and what incentivizes customers to stick around. Welcome to the dtc deep dive. In this episode, we welcome Jack Rubin Co-CEO of Purdy & Figg, a sustainable cleaning brand that Jack runs with his brother Charlie. We discuss what makes a good cleaning brand, running their own fulfilment centre and aggressively testing content to find a winner. On the launch of Purdy & Figg's new website and experiencing a slight drop in conversion because of this. Jack describes his journey as typical of most entrepreneurs. He and his brother started Purdy & Figg as a way of working together. On being a family business. Jack attributes the brand's success to the close-knit partnership with his brother, and how keeping work and family matters separate is important. Why eco-brands are doing well right now: People are realizing that common petro-chemical brands are causing health and environmental decline. Change is needed and customers know it. What makes a good eco cleaner? Having a good smell, being efficient and being environmentally friendly. On 10X'ing their monthly profits. Jack experimented until they found the product-market fit and used that data to scale the business. On Purdy & Figg's factory and fulfilment centre, which they made in order to increase cash flow and control. However, this has made scaling more difficult. On the subscription model, and how it is a long-term method to scale your acquisition, and makes everything more predictable. Hallmark Playhouse is an American old-time radio dramatic anthology series. It was broadcast on CBS from June 10, 1948 until February 1, 1953, and was described by one author as "a program that consistently produced the highest levels of production quality and value." Beginning on February 8, 1953, the program underwent changes of title, host, and format. It was broadcast as The Hallmark Hall of Fame until March 27, 1955, still on CBS. Playhouse format Hallmark Playhouse began as a summer replacement for Radio Reader's Digest, which Hallmark had also sponsored. Company officials decided to keep it for the fall of 1948 and drop its predecessor. An article in the trade publication Billboard reported that Hallmark executives preferred not to continue sharing product identification with Reader's Digest. The new show broadcast adaptations of works — some obscure and some well-known — from drama and literature. Personnel James Hilton was the host of Hallmark Playhouse. Hollywood stars often had leading roles in episodes. Among those starring were Ethel Barrymore, Ronald Colman, Joan Fontaine, Gregory Peck, and Jane Wyman. Frank Gast was the announcer. Lyn Murray provided the music. Dee Engelbach and Bill Gay were the producers. Writers included Jack Rubin and Jean Holloway.

The Hardy Family - Andy Hardy was a fictional character played by Mickey Rooney in an extremely successful MGM film series from 1937 to 1958. Spanning over 20 years, the 16 movies were based on characters in the play Skidding by Aurania Rouverol. The initial Hardy film, A Family Affair (1937), was made before a series was contemplated. It featured Lionel Barrymore as Judge Hardy and Spring Byington as Mrs. Hardy, Andy's parents, and Margaret Marquis as Andy's on-again-off-again sweetheart, Polly Benedict. But when the series was launched, most of the cast was changed, with the notable exceptions of Rooney and Sara Haden as his Aunt Milly. The series entries starred Lewis Stone as Judge Hardy, Fay Holden as Mrs. Hardy, Cecilia Parker as Andy's older sister Marian Hardy, and Ann Rutherford as Polly. Most of the movies were set in the Hardys' fictional hometown of Carvel, located in Idaho in the original play but described in the films as being in the Midwest. All of the films were sentimental comedies celebrating ordinary American life. The people in Carvel, by and large, were pious, patriotic, generous and tolerant. The town represented movie mogul Louis B. Mayer's idealized vision of his adopted country. Some writers have compared Carvel to Mayberry, the setting of The Andy Griffith Show a generation later.
