Er... we're back? I always said it was going to be irregular. But the podcast constipation is over and... this metaphor is going to no place that's good. Let's stop. I recorded this back at New York Comic Con, where I talked to Al Ewing about the revenge-thriller villain-protagonist creature that is Jennifer Blood 17. We pick apart its double-page-splash structure, Splash ends, whether Splash-ends is a porn term, physical size's relation to dramatic size, ethics, the king of the New York piss porn circuit, sound in dialogue to create momentum in sex scenes and - oh my! - this is really all about sex and craft. And death. Really, it's primarily how great Kewber Baal is. You can buy JENNIFER BLOOD from your local comic-shop or digitally from Comixology. And you can find the show notes here.
Later than delivered, and longer than promised, Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester have for you the one hundredth episode of Wait, What?, featuring calls from listeners, absurd technical problems, theatrical asides, and, oh yeah, comic books. In fact, among the comics discussed are Amazing Spider-Man #700, the hiatus of Jughead, reviews of a handful of DC New 52 Zero Issues including Batman, Inc., DC Universe Presents, and Justice League. Also, we consider the very odd trajectory of Jennifer Blood by Garth Ennis, Al Ewing, and others; Stumptown 2.1 by Greg Rucka and Matthew Southworth, The Crackle of the Frost by Lorenzo Mattotti and Jorge Zentner, the original Rocketeer series by Dave Stevens, Bloodshot, Bandette, Shadow Cabinet, a long look at Jim Starlin's career at Marvel and, as always, much, much more. The echo was a bit heavy on this one and Graeme ends up sounding like Beelzebub at the end, but we worked our hardest and did our best to bring you two point five hours of funny book podcastery you'd be proud to have streaming from your ears. As always, we hope you enjoy and thanks for listening!
Welcome back, Punisher fans! The pickings are a bit slim this time around for Punisher stories and news, but we make due with what we got. Introduction - I briefly mention my new job(s), Jake describes how his car is sending him to the poor house, and I try a new beer, and hilarity ensues. I also bore you with a poker story. Jake and I then advise people how to one-star us on iTunes. Contest- Today we announce the winner of our current contest! Brandontheman285, you've won some Punisher 2099 artwork! Please send us a line so you can receive your prize! Mail Call - We got a couple of letters for the show today! Arch asks us if Punisher would kill Walter White from the tv series Breaking Bad (great show). Andrew then asks us how we feel about Ennis's side project Jennifer Blood and how Punisher would work on a team book. Black Stone asks a similar question about Punisher joining the Avengers. Bullet Points -As mentioned before, we cover X-Force #29 and SPACE: Punisher #2. Frank is interesting, but a rather minor presence in the distopian world the story takes place. The other book goes off the rails, and not in a good way. Flashbacks - We wrap up Welcome Back Frank with our thoughts on the Russian and which jokes we thought were the best. As we've said before it's a great "starter" book to people interested in the character. Next episode, we'll dive back into more classic Punisher. Discharge Papers - A relatively scant segment today! I argue why Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe just doesn't work for me and Jake rolls his eyes at yet another Wolverine series, this time taking place in the MAX print. If you'd like, hit us up on iTunes or RSS.
