We're approaching the debut of the team known as the Freedom Fighters in the 1973 JLA/JSA crossover so we thought we would do a few episodes to introduce the members of that team to our listeners.  When we looked into the Human Bomb's legacy we were "blown away" at the number of times the concept had been used so we decided to give it it's own episode. Join us as... The Human Bomb encounters a Phony Human Bomb in Police Comics 7, The Mouthpiece tackles "The Human Bomber" in Police Comics 13, Steve Wilson (or is it Marty Moran) investigates a Human Bomb in Big Town 2 and finally the Blackhawks meet another Human Bomb in Blackhawk 79!   Don't miss it! We're back on the Grant Morrison JLA run which means we are back to COMPLICATED RECAPS. This time we have a relatively simple 2 issue story of the JLA vs a corrupt general and his Ultramarines! There's only like 6 new characters in this, so --- not too complex! But whoops then we have the 4 part story "Crisis TIme Five." In this story, there is an invasion from the fifth dimension which somehow leads to the JLA teaming up with their older Golden Age counterparts the Justice Society of America. You've got a 2-dimensional Shazam and Green Lantern arguing in a 5-D courtroom, and also Zauriel the JLA Angel speeding up time for a tiny civilzation so that he can free the Spectre. Also: robot mobsters, a couple of genies, alternate timeline JLA people, Superman getting knocked out, talking banks (like, the building) and I think a little of the New Gods too. Standard fare Morrison!

Come back to the late 1960s as the JLA/JSA battle strange black spheres and the sinister Dr. T.O. Morrow. Affiliate link included.Transcript:Host: Get ready for universe spanning crisis as we take a look at Crisis on Multiple Earths Volume Two, straight ahead.[Into Music]Announcer:Welcome to the Classy Comics podcast where we search for the best comics in the universe. From Boise, Idaho, here is your host Adam Graham. Host:During the Silver Age of D.C. Comics, as we discussed in another episode, a multiverse was established to exist with, particularly in the beginning, there being Earth-1 which was the home of the ongoing main D.C. Universe characters and then there was Earth-2 a parallel Earth with many similarities and a very similar history but with Golden Age heroes including Golden Age versions of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman who fought in World War two and contained the D.C.'s Golden Age characters including the Justice Society of America. As part of this multiverse those universes crossed over time and time again. It wasn't actually an annual tradition. For more than twenty years, there were annual crossovers between these two universes as adventures would begin on one earth and ultimately to adventures on the other or onto an earth unrelated to either of the two. We're going to take a look at some crossovers from late in the Silver Age. These are from 1967 to 1970 and this was at a transitory time for the Justice League of America where this book has the last two crossovers written by Gardner Fox and the first two written by Dennis O'Neil and the last story that was penciled by Mike Sekowsky and the first three that were penciled by Dick Dillon, who became the go to Justice League penciler for many years. The story's start out with Justice League 55 in 56 and the final two stories are from Justice League of America number 82 and 83. So, with that said we'll go ahead and get started with the first two-parter and all of these are two-part stories, so four of them, The Crisis That Struck Earth-2 and The Negative Crisis That Struck Earth-1 and the only thing I'm really going to complain about art wise in the entire book is the image for Robin's uniform. This is the first Justice League crossover to feature the Earth-2 Robin who is now grown to adult and has taken on an adult costume. However, that costume is just really awful. It combines the Batman and the Robin costumes in a way that just really clashes. He's got, from the Batman suit, the trunks, the boot, the utility belt and the grey bodysuit, as well as, the blue gloves but added to that, he's got the yellow cape and a very high collar. So, it's a ridiculous looking long cape and his emblem is a red crest with a yellow R and the Batman symbol in the middle of it. It doesn't look good on the cover. It looks a little bit better on the interior where actually the crest is different. It doesn't have the red circle in there, which makes the thing look a little less busy but I think the R is not very good. A lot of times during that Silver Age, they would imagine Robin as an adult continuing to fight crime and they would imagine costumes that just really didn't fit an adult hero. It would either just be like Batman costume but with the number two on it to indicate that he is the second Batman rather than the first original Batman. Why this should matter to criminals? I don't know but I digress. I think the costume in this book is probably one of the worst but again that's the only complaint I have about the art in this book. Everything else is fine Sekowski and Dylan really know their stuff.Alright, so now the plot. This begins with Black Energy orbs striking for average ordinary people and turning them into supervillains who have to be stopped by the J.S.A. However, when the J.S.A. fights them,

It's time to jump into the transmatter cube, y'all because another JLA/JSA crossover is upon us! That's right, faithful Talesers, Scott and Mike are back again with the first part of a two part look at the 1983 Justice League/Justice Society get together. It didn't start out as a two-parter. In fact the guys really wanted to get the whole thing done in one so they could get back to covering All-Star Squadron but at the last minute Mike's work texted and said he had to be in two hours early proving they care nothing for you and your entertainment. Oh well. Life goes on. At least Justice League of America #219 was freaking awesome. Anyway, this time out the duel teams of Justice are attacked by the pink Thunderbolt of Johnny Thunder and it confuses the hell out of all of them because the Thunderbolt is a good guy, right? Anyway, the JLA is taken out early leaving the JSA to figure out what the hell is going on. Mixed in with all of that you get a really cool homage to the cover of Flash #123, Black Canary telling an off color joke, Starman trying to put the moves on Canary and we get yet another explanation of how the multiverse works. Oh, and Chuck Patton does the art and HOT DAMN IS IT AWESOME! Next time: Justice League of America #220 and the shocking secret of Black Canary!Feedback for this show can be sent to: talesofthejsa@gmail.comTwo True Freaks! is a proud member of BOTH the Comics Podcast Network (http://www.comicspodcasts.com/) and the League of Comic Book Podcasts (http://www.comicbooknoise.com/league/)!! THE JLA/JSA CROSSOVER AWESOME SAUCE CONTINUES THIS WEEK! Scott and Mike are back again, fresh from their escape... I mean release... yes... release from that loony bin... I mean mental health facility... yes... mental health facility... and there was no escape at all. Mike and Scott didn't stick the pills they were given to take under their tongues and empty the contents into a napkin and then drug the night attendant and then rip the water fountain out of the floor, throw it through the window, and flee into the night. None of that happened and if anyone asks you about it you don't know anything, all right? All right. Um, anyway... this week, the guys continue their look at the Justice League of America /Justice Society of America crossovers that took place after ALL-STAR COMICS #58 with two stories -- one that involves time travel and another that involves the Justice Society being real douche bags to a fellow hero!! In JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #s 159 and 160, heroes from the past (including one of Scott's all time favorites, Jonah Hex!!) are used by the Lord of Time to mess with the JLA/JSA. There's a lot of wonky in this story, and Scott has far more to say about it than Mike, but what's new, right? RIGHT? :taps microphone: Is this thing on? Then, in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #s 171 and 172, the teams get together and, as per usual, someone dies!! For once, it's NOT one the "escorts" that Batman brings around and that tend to end up crushed and mangled after Superman gets into the Captain Morgan. This time, it's... well, I'd say it was a member of the JSA, but Mister Terrific, as Hawkman is so quick to point out after Terrific assumes room temperature, wasn't "really" a part of their little clique now, was he? This is an old-fashioned, closed-door murder mystery with Batman and the Huntress trying to figure out who did the deed, leaving Scott and Mike to try to figure out why the Justice Society were being such utter dicks to a fellow super-hero. Seriously!! They cut this guy ZERO freaking slack and then, after he dies, they act like it's no big deal!! Frankly, the guys are surprised that they put any effort into solving the murder at all!! Lastly, be sure to join Scott and Mike next week as they look at the final two JLA/JSA crossovers that occur "before" ALL-STAR SQUADRON!! One involves Darkseid, the other involves the Secret Society of Super-Villains!! Be there (or Mike and Scott will short-sheet ya)!! "Required Reading" for next week -- JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA(Vol. 1) #s 183 thru 185 and 195 thru 197!! NOTE -- The Two True Freaks! now have a phone line where you can call and leave a completely inappropriate message - We just might use it on the show! It's 585-COP-LURE!! Welcome to Episode #23 of "TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA", which sadly sees the closing of the first era of this podcast as we cover the last two JSA stories from ADVENTURE COMICS. At least 27 minutes of audio had to be cut because Michael couldn't stop crying like a big baby. Before that happened, though, Scott and Mike read some more of YOUR e-mails and the usual subjects of the JSA appearance on SMALLVILLE and BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD came up in addition to other musings from the BEST PODCAST-LISTENING AUDIENCE IN THE KNOWN MULTI-VERSE!! Then, the guys get right into ADVENTURE COMICS #s 465 and 466! In #465, Mike and Scott scratch their heads a lot at the general goofy nature of the story and ask seemingly unimportant questions like -- WHY IN THE HELL IS A HOSPITAL DEVELOPING A POISON PILL THAT'LL DISSOLVE IN FIVE HOURS AN KILL THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE?!! In issue #466, they discuss the REAL reason the JSA disbanded in 1953! The guys love this story despite a few nit-picks (but what else is new, right?). Also in this episode -- THE ADS RETURN! Whoo-hoo!! THERE'S EVEN A HOSTESS AD -- THAT DOESN"T INVOLVE BASEBALL! Plus, Mike and Scot catch up on the "Elsewhere in the DC Universe" segment (including some issues they missed last month, the fools!). So, :sniff, sob: The JSA's ongoing adventures may be over (for now), but there is still A LOT of awesome to come!! "Required Reading" for next week -- JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (Vol. 1) #s 135-137, 147 & 148, and 159 & 160. That's right, folks! You asked for it and they're bringing it!
