Jim Krueger isn't just the "Alex Ross writer." Sure, he's had spectacular collaborations with the painter, from the Earth X trilogy and Justice to Project Superpowers. But Jim's body of work spans far and wide, even beyond those epics. He's worked on many licensed properties, including Star Wars, Micronauts, The Matrix, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And of course there's some Batman issues and Capone vs. Dracula. Episode 52 - Murdock and Marvel: 2000 Part 2 The new millenium started with some big endings, and comic book sales kept slipping this year.  But 2000 featured some big developments that would point the way to the future of comics.  Welcome to the Oughts, everyone!  This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2000.   The Year in Daredevil  Appearances:  Daredevil #10-13, Earth X #10-12 and X, Fantastic Four #27, Avenger #27, Essential Fantastic Four #3, Marvel Knights #5-6, Daredevil: Ninja #1, Maximum Security #1, and Nick Fury: Agent of Shield graphic novel.    Writing: David Mack (#10 – 11 and 13), Quesada and Palmiotti (12)  Pencils: Joe Quesada (#10 – 11 and 13), Rob Haynes (12)  Inks: Jimmy Palmiotti (#10 – 11), Rob Haynes (12), Mike Morales (13)  A very light year for Daredevil as the main run only released four books this year – all part of the Parts of a Hole storyline started in December 1999. The story would continue until March 2001 when Parts of a Hole conclusion called Vision would reach stores. Visions will be our spotlight for this week.  Issue 12, Gun Play, feels like a fill-in story covering a series of vignettes about Hell's Kitchen residents (featuring some very adult themes) while Echo and Daredevil fight rooftop-to-rooftop that was written by Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, with art by Rob Haynes. Although it was well written, it does stall the pacing of the story for an issue.  Outside of the main title, many of the Daredevil appearances this year were reprints including the Daredevil Visionaries: Frank Miller collection that was released in October which included 10 stories from the Frank Miller era and a second printing of the Punisher kills the Marvel Universe graphic novel.   One other original story was started in December and spilled over into 2001 - Daredevil: Ninja which was a limited series written by Brian Michael Bendis and Rob Hayes that saw Daredevil dealing with the Hand and reuniting with Stone in Japan. When we get the start of another multi-book storyline called Parts of a Hole with a new writer in David Mack. All interviews were done on location at the EarthX Congress of Conferences, an event dedicated to fostering sustainability and environmental action. Initially, though, I was hesitant about attending due to its surprising mix of sponsors and speakers, many of whom you would never expect to see at a conference about protecting the Earth. However, I chose to go with an open mind, ready to challenge greenwashing if I saw it and explore genuine intentions when present.  To my delight, EarthX was a melting pot of ideas and collaborations, uniting individuals from various backgrounds, including energy companies, environmental activists, and political figures, all driven by a shared passion for conservation.The experience was eye-opening and underscored the importance of including all stakeholders in our environmental discussions to create lasting solutions. This episode marks the beginning of a season filled with enlightening conversations and my personal reflections on navigating this complex but crucial path toward sustainability. Wind turbines are an incredible source of renewable, carbon-neutral energy that can be deadly to bats. This week we talk to a scientist who's trying to fix that. We sit down at EarthX with Dr. Sarah Fritts, an associate professor of wildlife ecology at Texas State University, to learn how she's working to keep bats away from critical renewable energy infrastructure. April Fools! We're doing some weird comics today, because that feels like it makes sense. We wanted to read Peter Porker and we only picked issue #16 because it had Baron Zebro in it.  Then we read Avengers #200 because it's said to be one of the worst issues of all time, and it definitely deserves that accolade. It's been a while since we read something from the Marvel Graphic Novel series, so we're going back to read Emperor Doom, a story where Dr. Doom steals Purple Man's powers and takes over the world.  Doom actually does a pretty good job, until the Avengers screw everything up. It's really all Wonder Man's fault that world hunger is still a thing. Then we move onto Earth X #5 in which Uatu continues to be very mean to X-51. Next Time: The Superior Foes of Spider-Man #1-6
