This week, we sat down with John Molina of Molina, Wu, Network (MWN) to discuss the future of Long Beach Community Hospital. The hospital, which provided much needed acute care services in East Long Beach before it shut down in July 2018, is to be reopened and operated by MWN. The city has agreed to help finance the seismic retrofit of the facility, a move that has drawn some criticism, despite general consensus that the hospital will provide necessary services.

At our 2017 Northern California State of Reform Health Policy Conference, we heard from Jason Burke, Vice President, 3M, John Molina, Chief Financial Officer, Molina Healthcare, and Ken Thorpe, Chair, Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease at our Executive Keynote Morning Panel. While the Congressional Republicans had pulled their health reform bill, the issue of health care continues to hang over Washington DC. As elections draw closer, and as advocates build arguments for and against policies in the public conversation, expect a renewed level of energy committed to health reform in the months ahead. This panel of national experts discussed the shape of the conversation, the “fixes” that would be appropriate to the ACA, and where they believe the national reform discussion should lead. Note, this was recorded on April 27, 2017.

The Pound4Pound Kings of Boxing Broadcast Journalism. ONTHEGRiND BOXiNG is the world's number 1 boxing podcast, and blogtalkradio's original boxing program. Muhammad Ali passed into eternity this week. ONTHEGRiND BOXiNG Eulogizes the greatest. BOXiNG fans finally have something to talk about again following a battle for the ages between Orlando Salido and Francisco Vargas. The OtG Team will also preview a big boxing weekend featuring; Ruslan Provodnikov, John Molina, Vasyl Lomachenko and Roman Martinez. We welcome back an integral member of the team on today's episode as well. ONTHEGRiND BOXiNG breaks down the latest boxing news, commentary, predictions and analysis from around the boxing world.
Everyone else alive? I think we're okay. We're a little shaken up, hurt, tired, hungry and a little confused, but we'll make it. NBC had some boxing on the other night, if you didn't know. And it was pretty average on a lot of ways. Maybe that's good, though? Trying to cram tons of boxing talk into a two-hour podcast is going to be a challenge, but we'll manage it. This week on TQBR Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Queensberry Rules' Patrick Connor welcome Nicole Duva of Main Events to the show. There will certainly be a recap of the Keith Thurman vs Robert Guerrero and Adrien Broner vs John Molina card from Premier Boxing Champions/NBC/Al Haymon, and plan on some mention oif Amnat Ruenroeng vs Zou Shiming, but the preview of the Sergey Kovalev vs Jean Pascal/Steve Cunningham vs Vyacheslav Glazkov HBO card on Saturday will be big. Not to be forgotten, there's Andre Berto vs Josesito Lopez Friday on SpikeTV -- also a PBC card. It's March Madness in Febru-... Oh. We're in March. Anyway. Thanks for tuning in! (Photos: Premier Boxing Champions)
We're on the brink of a flurry of boxing activity after some down time. The sport seems to get slow every winter, so it's not surprising, but boxing could be in for some new, exciting things in the coming months. For starters, this weekend marks the beginning of perhaps the biggest recent change: Al Haymon's sudden onslaught of network and sub-network television dates in the sport of boxing. But there are other important things too! For instance, this week on TQBR Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Queensberry Rules' Patrick Connor welcome to the show Compubox operator and historian Aris Pina. That alone is news-worthy! But past Keith Thurman vs Robert Guerrero headlining boxing on NBC, courtesy of Haymon, Amnat Ruenroeng defends his flyweight belt against Chinese star Zou Shiming on HBO2. Expect plenty of boxing history tangents, and check the TQBR Radio Facebook page for details on how to win stuff by just listening to the show! Thanks for tuning in!

With overall matchmaking options boxing narrowing and becoming more limited and asterisk-laden, we've had to relax our standards some, even if only out of a survival instinct. No, boxing is not dying or limping or anything like that, but the last two months or so have given us surprisingly entertaining fights from bouts that, beforehand, were either considered tune ups or technical match ups. Lucas Matthysse-John Molina wound up a splendid fight indeed, Robert Guerrero-Yoshihiro Kamegai slugged its way into our hearts, and this past weekend, Terence Crawford went all Travis Bickle on everyone and mopped up Yuriorkis Gamboa. As Bad Left Hook's James Foley is on vacation, joining Patrick Connor this week is Queensberry-Rules and Transnational Boxing Rankings Board Chair Tim Starks. Also likely to be covered: Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs Erislandy Lara, Evander Holyfield's retirement, more Golden Boy and Top Rank vs Al Haymon and Richard Schaefer nonsense, etc. Thanks for tuning in!
What do you do when you're the best fighter in the world, people tune in to pay cable shows to watch you count your money, you're undefeated, you work hard, you're dedicated and you're all about raising the roof, Benjamins, letting the dogs out and all of that cool stuff? You fight the guy who kicked the crap out of your "little brother," of course. Floyd Mayweather vs Marcos Maidana has been both celebrated and bemoaned - usually celebrated because it's the biggest event of the year thus far, and usually bemoaned because, on paper, it appears to be a typical Mayweather mismatch, and the undercard sucks. It could actually wind up being more like this last weekend's Showtime card featuring Keith Thurman vs Julio Diaz, Lucas Matthysse vs John Molina and Omar Figueroa vs Jerry Belmontes, and surprise the hell out of us. It's unlikely, but that's why we watch this stuff. Joining Patrick Connor of Queensberry-Rules this week (James Foley of Bad Left Hook is taking a small vacation, but he'll be back!) is Tim Starks, editor/founder of TQBR, and Matthew Swain, also of TQBR. Thanks for tuning in!
Keith Thurman retained his title with a TKO over Julio Diaz, Omar Figueroa Jr. defended his crown with a split decision over Jerry Belmontes, and Lucas Matthysse scored a spectacular knockout of John Molina.
The dry spell we had to sit through for a bit seems to have potentially subsided -- temporarily, at least. Since TQBR Radio took a week off, we have some catching up to do by recapping the Manny Pacquiao vs Tim Bradley II Pay-Per-View card, in addition to the usual recapping of the last weekend's cards. On Showtime, Bernard Hopkins history shmistoried his way through a notable-ish light heavyweight fight, something something about belts and old people, etc. Also, Shawn Porter smashed through Paulie Malignaggi and Peter Quillin caught a decision over Lukas Konecny. There should be some likely vocalizations from James Foley of Bad Left Hook and Queensberry-Rules' Patrick Connor about upcoming fights like Keith Thurman vs Julio Diaz. Lucas Matthysse vs John Molina, Wladimir Klitschko vs Alex Leapai, Omar Figueroa vs Jerry Belmontes, and likely more.
Keith Thurman defends his interim WBA World Welterweight Championship against Julio Diaz, plus Lucas Matthysse returns in a 10-round matchup against John Molina, and Omar Figueroa Jr. defends his WBC Lightweight World Championship against Jerry Belmontes.
