Writer Jon Tsuei and Vault Comics publisher Adrian Wassel talk about bringing "Sera and the Royal Stars" to life in a brilliant, vibrant fashion, and about telling compelling stories that fall outside of the boxes most folks have gotten too accustomed to. Do you need or want to see more fantasy in comics or in general? Let us know! Send Summer an email, or leave a message in the comments below!
Hi there Patrons and ACCtion Heroes! The audio file says it all, but we have some formatting changes coming down the pike. We're spinning off Pullbox into its own weekly show. This way, we get to focus on our core mission of introducing new comics and comics-related media to our community. We tend to think of it as gate-opening. We are still going to do regular deep dives into other topics. For example, in the coming weeks, we have Immortal Hulk and Horror, Romantic Representation in Comics, and an interview with writer Jon Tsuei. But we're also adding a "lighter" topic into the rotation. Think of those topics as being palate cleansers for the dark and gritty Daredevil/Batman stories that Marty cannot stop bringing up. Examples of those topics include All Ages Media, State of the Arrowverse, and romance in general. Bookclub isn't going anywhere. In fact, this next bookclub will be Bone! And because Nick loves it so, we're going to do two whole shows on it, about a month apart. Look for our next Book Club vote in the coming weeks! No matter what changes, our purpose remains the same: To open up the comics community so that it is welcoming to all people. Comics are for everyone, and we want to share the joy they bring with everyone. These changes let us double down on our commitment to you. The format changes are taking place this week. Let us know how we're doing either on Patreon or wherever you get your podcasts (ie a 5-star review would be great!)

Shaun speaks with activist, writer, and Fulbright scholar Bernard Hayman about anti-Blackness, why it's useful to distinguish it from a broader term like "racism," and how easy it is to be passively anti-Black in America. I mentioned in this episode that Microsoft had, at one time, "bailed out" Apple. I got a few things wrong. First, I meant to say "100 million dollars," but said "one million" instead. Both are incorrect; it was $150 million. Second, it turns out that Microsoft's investment was likely not intended to save Apple. Further reading: https://www.wired.com/2009/08/dayintech_0806/, http://www.zdnet.com/article/stop-the-lies-the-day-that-microsoft-saved-apple/ We talked about Derek Black, the former white supremacist wunderkind.
