All the names on the cover of Welcome to Twilight: From the World of Minor Threats #2 join us for the show this week to talk about working through new story developments as they come, whether it's intimidating to come into a universe with so many elements already built in, depicting flashbacks visually, fast food, and a whole lot more!We make our show on Zencastr, and you can too! Follow this link to sign up now!
This interview kicks off with absolute chaos and doesn't slow down until the credits roll. Brian Michael "B-Money" Bendis and Soo Lee join Dan to talk about WELCOME TO TWILIGHT Issue #2. This is their first installment in the Minor Threats Universe! We dig into their issue, their new characters, and so much more in our extremely fun chat. Oh also, Bendis talks about the time he signed a living breathing dog, but he had NOTHING to do with the CGC grading! WELCOME TO TWILIGHT is the first anthology series from the world of Minor Threats that lines up absolute superstar teams to tell stories set through the Minor Threats Universe. In Issue 2, A brand-new character so dangerous she was never spoken of until now. Find out her connections to the past and how they're gonna affect the future of the city. Co-created by the creator of the Peabody-winning Jessica Jones and the Bram Stoker (Not Stroker, that's a very different and much sexier award show which we talk about) award-winning co-creator of Carmilla, Soo Lee! Soo Lee talks about the design of the new character Dokkaebi with her own heritage and anime influences. As someone who is an expert on the Minor Threats universe, she is my favorite addition since Crab Louie. She fits so well, and I cannot wait to see where she goes from this absolutely STELLAR introduction WELCOME TO TWILIGHT. Bendis discusses his return not only to writing cape comics but also to writing comics in a shared space like this. He discusses how inspiring the duo of Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum is as someone who loves collaborating with people. We all spend a lot of time gushing over Minor Threats, and I am not sorry about it. If you aren't reading the Minor Threats line... You're missing out on the absolute ultimate thing in comics.

Building on the success of the new Thundercats series, Dynamite Comics has another brand new number one that I think is sure to be another hit: Cheetara. Writer Soo Lee is here on the Cryptid Creator Corner to tell us all about it. Issue #1 will be at your LCS on Wednesday, July 3rd. This story takes place before the destruction of Thundera and Soo Lee talks about the freedom to create a rich backstory for Cheetara. Soo also discusses working with artist Domenico Carbone and what she's learned as an artist working with different writers and how that has impacted how she writes a script. I also sneak in a few questions about the excellent Carmilla: The First Vampire, written by Amy Chu with art by Soo Lee. It's absolutely incredible and the follow-up Carmilla: The Last Vampire Hunter is out July 10th. This was a fun conversation and I enjoyed getting to know more about artist and writer Soo Lee. From the publisher As Cheetara becomes more conscious of her hidden powers, she is also increasingly troubled by apocalyptic visions of the future. Goaded on by these haunting dreams, she ramps up her training of the young Lion-O to prepare him for the trials ahead - but pushing the young prince so hard may wind up doing more harm than good! The acclaimed creative team of writer SOO LEE and artist DOMENICO CARBONE continue to unveil the secrets that lie at the heart of Thundera and the saga of the ThunderCats in ThunderCats: Cheetara #3 - commemorated with classic covers from LEE, LESLEY "LEIRIX" LI, REBECA PUEBLA, and EDWIN GALMON! Our episode sponsors After the Realm Don't miss Eisner and Harvey award winning comics creator Michael Avon Oeming's newest crowdfunding project After The Realm. With over 300 pages of material and 22 new pages of story, this graphic novel collects issues 1-5 of this realm trotting dystopian fantasy adventure that follows young ranger Oona Lightfoot's travels and travails trying to find her best friend as the nine realms are torn asunder. At last, The High Republic -- The Nameless Terror #1 (of 4) is in comic shops. Was it worth the wait?Yes, very much so.Will it be difficult to wait almost two months until issue #2 is released?Yes, if #1 is anything to go by, since George Mann, Eduardo Mello, Ornella Savarese, Studio RAM, Matt Dryer, Sanjay Dharawat, Stephen Reichert and Samantha Hummer have delivered a crackling debut issue that ties into The High Republic mythology with ease while creating an aura of suspense. In Yoda #4 (of 10), writer Jody Houser returns to the galaxy a long time ago, reteaming with artist Luke Ross for a three-issue arc that features Yoda in a story set before the Prequel Trilogy and featuring Jedi Master Dooku. THey're joined by color artist Nolan Woodard and letter Joe Caramagna of Virtual Caligraphy. It's a well-paced start that gives us more elements of the Count before his faith in the Jedi was lost and features a trio of young Padawans -- a togorian, wookiee and trandoshan -- that echoes Dooku's own relationship with SIfo-Dyas. Astute readers will recognize a key event in this issue from the pages of Age of Republic: Count Dooku #1. That issue has more emotional heft now. Finally, in Doctor Aphra (Vol. 2) #29, Aphra finds herself in an unusual spot: Completely oblvious to the Spark's dire plans. The story by Alyssa Wong, artist Natacha Bustos, color artist Rachelle Rosenberg and letter Joe Caramagna, blends long-ago history with the effort by Chelli's friends to come to her rescue in a brisk story. Due to popular demand this week sees Andy return to the podcast after his covid enforced break. Thankfully he's seen a film in the interim so at least he's pulling his weight when it comes to reviews. We feature reviews of new cannibal romance adaptation 'Bones and All', the latest MCU film 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever', tone shifting horror 'Barbarian' and documentaries 'Free Chol Soo Lee' & 'Three Minutes: A Lengthening'
In the early 1970s, Chol Soo Lee, a Korean American immigrant, was falsely convicted for a San Francisco Chinatown murder and later sentenced to death. Activists led by a Korean American journalist and college students initiated a pan-Asian American movement to exonerate Lee. This largely unknown piece of history is the focus of the 2022 documentary film “Free Chol Soo Lee.” Liz Lenivy, attorney and Gateway Korea Foundation board member, joins the show to talk about the one-night screening in St. Louis.
On today's show, opioid-related deaths are down from the peak in November. Plus, we chat with Dr. Soo Lee, a professor emeritus at the University of Toronto and an honorary staff physician at Mount Sinai Hospital, about the need for a national plan to deal with drug shortages. Also, Canada has some of the best international disaster response teams in the world; however, we don't have a way of tracking them if we need them at home. We find out more from Lynda Redwood-Campbell, a professor and family physician in the department of family medicine at McMaster University. And hydrogen has been in the news lately. We learn all about it from Dr. Murray Thomson, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto, and the Chief Science Officer at Aurora Hydrogen.
In the early 1970s, a 20-year-old Korean immigrant named Chol Soo Lee was convicted of a Chinatown gang murder. Sentenced to life, he spent years fighting to survive, until investigative journalist K.W. Lee took a special interest in his case, igniting an unprecedented social justice movement that would unite Asian Americans and inspire a new generation of activists. Nearly five decades later, the new documentary Free Chol Soo Lee examines this largely unknown yet important history, presenting an intimate portrait of the complex man at its center and serving as an urgent reminder of his legacy. Join us for a free online conversation with Julie Ha and Eugene Yi, the co-directors of Free Chol Soo Lee. Co-directors Julie Ha and Eugene Yi damning documentary begins on June 3, 1973 with the of a man was murdered in a busy intersection of San Francisco's Chinatown as part of an ongoing gang war. Chol Soo Lee, a 20-year-old Korean immigrant, who had previous run-ins with the law, was arrested and convicted based on flimsy evidence and the eyewitness accounts of white tourists who couldn't distinguish between Asian features. Sentenced to life in prison, Chol Soo Lee would spend years fighting to survive behind bars before journalist K.W. Lee took an interest in his case. The intrepid reporter's investigation would galvanize a first-of-its-kind pan-Asian American grassroots movement to fight for Chol Soo Lee's freedom, ultimately inspiring a new generation of social justice activists. Revisiting this pivotal yet largely forgotten story, filmmakers Eugene Yi and Julie Ha draw from a rich archive as well as firsthand accounts of those inspired to come to Lee's defense. But even as Free Chol Soo Lee explores this miscarriage of justice, the film also reveals the man behind the cause, and the complex legacy — and human cost — of becoming the symbol of a movement. "Free Chol Soo Lee" explores the legacy of a 1973 murder in San Francisco's Chinatown and a young Korean immigrant who was initially convicted of the crime. Filmmakers Julia Ha and Eugene Yi offer a nuanced profile of the complex man behind the slogan.

Paul shrugged and walked back inside, puzzled but did not dwell on it. He sat back on his chair and resumed his work. He felt comforted by the knowledge that Soo Lee was in the office with him so he did not feel alone. As he was about to reach for the other packet of biscuits, he heard the glass door slide open again. He stood up and peered over his partition. There was no one coming in! Paul's heart skipped a beat and he glanced over at Soo Lee's workstation. Her small light was still on and he could still hear her typing away. He walked quickly across the dark office towards her workstation and peeked over her partition. She was not there!Join Wraith in this paranormal mystery journey where you will think and find whether which are fact and which are fiction....If you have any stories of your own and want Wraith to share with all our listeners,Do email at latenightmysteries@gmail.comSUBSCRIBE AND LIKE OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYeg3nLF4mexguxo7RMPkOwLIKE OUR FACEBOOK PAGE: https://www.facebook.com/LateNightMysteriesDON'T FORGET TO SUBSCRIBE AND LIKE OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LateNightMysteries)
