You probably know Adam Hughes from his fun and sexy covers that adorn comics nearly every month. But did you know he's spent nearly 40 years in the industry, working with virtually all major and indie publishers? Adam's first regular gig was on Mike Barr's Maze Agency from Comico. He then did a short run on Justice League America (with a continued cover run) before moving to Atlanta to join Gaijin Studios with artists like Brian Stelfreeze, Cully Hamner, Dave Johnson, and Tony Harris. He redesigned and reintroduced Ghost for Dark Horse's Comics Greatest World initiative. Adam went on to write and illustrate the Gen13: Ordinary Heroes miniseries for Wilstorm, before starting his famous cover run on Wonder Woman, Tomb Raider, and later, Catwoman. Some of his most recent interior work includes Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan and Betty and Veronica for Archie Comics. You can follow AH! on his website, adamhughesofficial.com, or Instagram @atomhues. ____________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you like this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. In May 2023, Mathematica hosted a convening on Capitol Hill about embedding evidence in federal decision making, with a focus on the legacy of the nearly five-year-old Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act, also known as the Evidence Act. One of the attendees that day was Robert Shea, an expert on performance improvement in government who served on the bipartisan U.S. Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking, a group whose recommendations informed the Evidence Act. Shea is the chief executive officer for GovNavigators, a government management consulting firm, where he hosts a podcast called The GovNavigators Show. His career has also included posts at the White House Office of Management and Budget, the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, and the House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight. On this episode of Mathematica's On the Evidence podcast, Shea discusses the improvements he has witnessed since the mid-1990s in the use of data and evidence in federal decision making. “We have seen a sea change in the ability of agencies to understand that they need to articulate what they're trying to accomplish in terms of outcomes, report that transparently,” Shea says on the episode. “A lot of what we're talking about today is sort of dig deeper—find out whether it's what we're doing that's contributing to the ultimate outcome rather than some other factor.” This episode is part of an occasional series on the show called Evidence in Government, which explores new developments in the halls of government and the role that evidence can play in decisions that could improve people's lives. Mike Burns, Mathematica's senior director of communications and public affairs at Mathematica, conducts the Evidence in Government interviews. How have we gone this long without featuring Whitney Cummings? When she's not developing hit TV shows that are hilarious, she's riffing with other world famous, LA-based comedians like Matt Rife. Matt is as funny as he is humble. Adam Hughes joins us from across the pond to explain that Kate Beckinsale is an attractive lady. Then the cringe of the week features one of our friends and frequent contributors, Vito Gesualdi. After that, Ray DeVito hops on as we discuss the fallout between Bob Levy and Kevin Brennan on Misery Loves Company, Chad Zumock says I'm a good guy but then he defends Chris D'Elia, the world's worst improv comedians (and that's saying something) have a podcast, and we have another riveting round of To Catch An Alien. In S2Ep4 of the PRP, Eric babbles with first time marathoner, recent Masters of Public Health Graduate, lifelong Michigander and aspiring culinary artist Lindsay Green who has been preparing for the Bayshore Marathon on Saturday May 28th, 2022. Lindsay shares insight into her unique entry into the running space and explains how being immersed in community of obsessive runners can be both good and bad at times. As someone who doesn't have a tremendous background in youth sports, Lindsay explains how she has gone about preparing herself physically and mentally to harness the self-confidence necessary to tackle such a monumental obstacle. Adam Hughes, passionate trail runner, aspiring climate activist and Lindsay's better half joins the show as guest host and offers a story or two by way of his lens as Lindsay's coach throughout training camp. Adam shares insight into how he has had the privilege to witness Linds leverage her successes on the pavement & trail into successes in other aspects of her life, and visa versa. Being exposed to ultra running before pavement running through her partner, Linds got a unique peek at diversity and good natured energy of the sport and just like that a seed was planted, "Perhaps I can do this?!" Linds gets vulnerable and explains how a compounding set of factors lead to a massive training low just weeks out from the race. After months of sweat equity, bloody toes and chaffed skin, however, she has cultivated some serious positive momentum and is determined to push forward. Her belief? You can be a runner, no matter your appearance or your history with being active. Don't let society & social media dictate what body types can and can't be successful in the sport. She has absolutely no apologies for her style of running and is completely ay-ok to go her own pace. Before episode close, Linds shares her appreciation for strava, and explains why for her, it is strictly a platform to encourage her friends & community, not a place for competition or obsessing about data. What the hell is a mandolin and why should you beware of them?! What's wrong with Lindsay and why does she LOVE to run in Winter?! What in tarnation is Beaver Butt Vanilla and why should you be aware of it?! What does LTYB mean and why should you care? Ummm why was Lindsay collecting her own poop and examining it for scientific purposes?? Just how enormous are the blisters on both of Lindsay's big toes?!! This, and oh so much more in this light hearted and body positive episode of the PRP.
