"The only power I have is that I believe we can do better." It's Wednesday and that means Episode 56 is here! Robert, Jordan, and Joe are breaking down the Disney+ Series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier". We discuss the legacy of Captain America with Sam Wilson on the big screen, the tragic story of Isaiah Bradley, the increasingly poor decisions of John Walker, The Power Broker "twist", Karli Morgenthau and the Flagsmashers, and of course, the wonderful chemistry between Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was the second MCU show to hit Disney+. The show, presented as an action-adventure thriller, discussed serious subjects like race and classism. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier wrapped up season one in April, but it laid the groundwork for future MCU properties. In this episode, we were joined by K-Mitch, a good friend to the podcast and the first guest we had on the show. Similar to our Star Wars episode with K-Mitch, this episode focused heavily on race, particularly the comparison of Sam Wilson and Isiah Bradley -- two black men that took up the mantle of Captain America. Another subject we tackled was the development of characters like Sharon Carter, Baron Zemo, and most importantly, Bucky Barnes. Also, we got into some of our highlights of the show. John Walker aka USAgent actor Wyatt Russell might've stolen the show along with a surprise appearance from the Dora Milaje. A subject we touched on briefly was the scrapped pandemic storyline. Due to the real-world COVID-19 pandemic, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier went through a couple of rewrites. These changes affected the show's villains, Karli Morgenthau & the Flagsmashers. Did you agree with the Flagsmashers? Where do you rank The Falcon and The Winter Solider out of all the Marvel shows? Are you excited to see Sam Wilson in the upcoming Captain America movie? In the series finale, the hunt for the Flag Smashers culminates in New York City, where Karli Morgenthau and her allies have infiltrated GRC operations in order to stop the global resettlement plans. Bucky arrives to help and is joined by Sharon Carter. Sam flies in wearing his new suit and wings, having finally accepted the mantle of Captain America. Cap fights Batroc while Bucky tries to thwart Karli’s plans to evacuate the building. Sharon, who is revealed to be the Power Broker, is playing all sides throughout the episode. Karli creates various diversions to delay Sam and Bucky, who prioritize saving lives. She takes two trucks full of GRC officials hostage, but Sam and Bucky manage to save them all, even with John Walker showing up to take his vengeance on Karli. Together, Bucky and a more stable Walker apprehend Karli’s core group. But Sharon corners Karli and Batroc horns in on their business. Sharon kills Batroc, but not before he also shoots her. When Sam arrives, it appears that Karli has shot Sharon. A fight ensues, with Sharon saving Sam’s life by fatally shooting Karli, keeping Sharon’s secret safe. Sam gives an impassioned speech to the GRC officials, which is caught on live TV. His efforts are enough for the GRC to suspend their resettlement plans. After the battle, Zemo manages to execute the remaining Flag Smashers from his cell at The Raft. John Walker goes to work for the mysterious Val, becoming the U.S. Agent. Bucky finishes his therapeutic work and makes peace with his past, present, and future. He joins the Wilsons, who are celebrating Sam’s journey, for a family party in Louisiana. As promised, Sharon Carter receives a full pardon from the U.S. government and regains her job at SHIELD, setting her up to be the ultimate double agent. And Sam brings Isaiah Bradley to the Smithsonian Institute to see the long overdue exhibit that Sam got installed. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier continues Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sam and Bucky confront Walker after he publicly executed a Flag Smasher. When Walker refuses to give up the shield, a bloody fight ensues, with Sam forcibly taking the shield and heading back to the GRC camp with Bucky. The GRC takes jurisdiction over the manhunt of Karli Morgenthau and her followers, leaving Sam out of the loop. Sam leaves his broken wings with Torres and heads to Baltimore, while Bucky hunts down Zemo. Meanwhile, John Walker is stripped of his titles, including Captain America, and discharged from the military immediately. He is approached by an enigmatic woman named Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine, who clearly wants to recruit Walker for something nefarious. Sam talks with Isaiah Bradley and gains a clearer understanding of his story and legacy. Bucky and Zemo both choose not to kill each other, and Bucky hands Zemo over to Ayo and the Wakandan Dora Milaje. Sam returns home to Louisiana, where he and Sarah finally create a workable plan to save their family business. Bucky joins them to help and brings Sam a long-awaited peace offering. While fixing the boat and training with the shield, Sam and Bucky work through their issues and finally bond as buddies. But Karli is busy planning an attack on the GRC, with the help of Batroc, who is working for the shadowy Sharon Carter. As Karli’s plot commences, Sam appears to be ready to take on the mantle of Captain America, no matter how the U.S. government feels about it. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier continues Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the heart-stopping ending of the darkest chapter yet, Bridgette and Genn are here to unpack John Walker’s downfall, Karli Morgenthau’s complicated struggle for her people, and the consequences of supremacist ideals and the “do what must be done” philosophy that plagues both these characters. Meanwhile, we talk about the ramifications of Steve’s absence and how it skillfully weaves into the narrative (better than, say, Tony’s in Far From Home *cough*) as Sam must decide what kind of hero and person that he wants to be. This episode also includes shoutouts to the Dora Milaje and Agent Carter and Bridgette’s official headcanon that Zemo secretly has powers. You heard it here first. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier delivered its fourth and finest episode (so far). Does the end justify the means? That question is asked and debated several times in this installment, showing us who these characters are and what they really stand for. Sam Wilson once again proves what makes him a hero the world needs while John Walker fails to uphold the legacy of Captain America in shocking ways. We discuss the ethical questions raised by this episode, Zemo singing, the brilliance of Erin Kellyman as Karli Morgenthau, a powerful moment for Bucky, the Dora Milaje, and where the series will go from here!
If the world wasn't watching, they're probably talking now about what happened in season 1, episode 4 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Karli Morgenthau took her villainous turn last week and now we have John Walker sullying the stars and stripes with blood. Steve Rogers showed mercy. Walker shows none. Zemo smashes vials. Hoskins might be done. Ayo showed her softer side to Bucky six years back, but now she's all business and beats up...everyone. Do not mess with the Dora Milaje. Sam is hoping no one messes with his family. Zemo didn't want to so he made like a mutant ninja turtle of the teenage variety and took to the sewers. This was after he gave Steve Rogers a compliment, bribed kids with candy and nursery rhymes, and got to smash 11 vials of super serum before getting knocked out cold by a disc of vibranium. Poor Sharon is still waiting for that pardon in Madripoor. We will continue to quickly recap episodes here and discuss what we think is happening in the show and how it will fit into the Marvel Studios Multiverse. This week Stu and Neil are back to blow a load and review everything that's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Ep4, this podcast will contain plot spoilers. John Walker loses patience with Sam and Bucky as they learn more about Karli Morgenthau. Ayo and The Dora Milaje kick some major butt leaving Bucky armless!!!! Walker loses a close friend leading to the most memorable scene in the series so far.
The Power Broker makes an appearance...well, no, he doesn't. It's still the title of the first episode in April. John Walker continues to disappoint us (the viewers) and falls behind in the search for a big splashy win. Karli Morgenthau visits her "Mama" and the three musketeers (Falcon, Winter Soldier, and Zemo) visit the 'poor (Madripoor, that is). The season (and probably series) is halfway done and there are still a few questions, but less and less time to make the reveals. We get a Wakandan connection at the very end, but how many loose ends are going to stay loose if we keep introducing new threads? We will continue to quickly recap episodes here and discuss what we think is happening in the show and how it will fit into the Marvel Studios Multiverse. Apologies for the delay in providing this episode. This girl needed a break during the Easter holiday to re-group In this episode we talk about episode 2 of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier mini-series Questions we ran through: Will John Walker become a friend or a foe? Bucky said he was going to see someone and we know it's going to be Zemo...does he have his own agenda? Do you think that Karli Morgenthau is answering to someone more sinister or is she the head-villain in town? So many questions... Episode 3 of Falcon and the Winter Soldier has graced our screens from Disney Plus, and Britny and Oli are here to discuss! This week's episode covers everything from Baron Zemo, to Madripoor and the disgusting snake cocktail that Sam Wilson is subjected to drink. The Flag Smashers are back at their nefarious ways with Karli Morgenthau at the helm, and there's a reunion with none other than Sharon Carter. A member of Wakanda's Dora Milaje even makes an appearance, with a brief introduction to Ayo! Happy Easter weekend, and boy do we have an "egg-cellent" episode for you! The second episode of the Sam and Bucky road show has arrived! March 26th, 2021 brought us The Star-spangled Man on Disney Plus where John Walker made his debut as a Captain America, but we see quickly that the title is less important than the man wearing the suit. We find out that Karli Morgenthau has run afoul of "the Power Broker" and Helmut Zemo has been in the pokey since Civil War. Sharon Carter might be making her appearance soon, simply because she got a name drop...well, so did Bruce Banner and Tony Stark but I don't think they're showing up in this show. The US has a lot of work to do in race relations, but we just don't think Disney should be handling the social commentary. Isaiah Bradley did not deserve what happened to him and there isn't much people can do to make it up to him now. Bucky lets himself get taken to jail, because let's face it, those handcuffs don't stand a chance against his super strength or vibranium arm. The super serum is on a plane with the Flag Smashers destined for a devastating plan and The Falcon joins The Winter Soldier and Dr. Raynor for the weirdest marriage therapy we've seen on Disney Plus...and we just got done with WandaVision! We will quickly recap episodes and discuss what we think is happening in the show and how it will fit into the Marvel Studios Multiverse. We chat all about Bucky and Sam teaming up this week and some reveals of our big bads for the series. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Episode 2 Synopsis Episode Written by: Michael Kastelein Episode Directed By: Kari Skogland John Walker, the new Captain America, alongside his partner Lamar Hoskins aka Battle star, grapples with his new identity and role as he is introduced to America. Meanwhile Bucky confronts Sam about giving up the Shield as he joins him on a mission to Germany to investigate the Flag Smashers and their super soldier strength - are they androids, aliens or wizards? Tracking two trucks filled with stolen supplies, Falcon and the Winter Soldier come up against the super strength and determination of Karli Morgenthau and her break away group of Flagsmashers. Help arrives as Captain America and Battlestar join the fray but Bucky and Sam are far from grateful for the assistance. Flying back to America, there is still tension, as Bucky still wants to understand why Sam relinquished the shield that was entrusted to him by Steve and they detour to Baltimore where Sam is introduced to Isaiah Bradley another hero super soldier, whose fortunes fared far worse than Steve Rogers. Upset and angry Isaiah throws them both out of his home and immediately Bucky is arrested for missing his parole. Bailed by John Walker, Sam and Bucky are forced into a joint therapy session where miracle questions, some touching knees, bromance and soul gazing brings some level of understanding between them. Outside the police station Sam and Bucky refuse John Walker’s offer to team up and attempt at reconciliation. Now as free agents they plan to find out more about the Flag Smashers and contact their former adversary Baron Zemo. Meanwhile back in Germany Karli and her group frantically load their supplies onto a plane as they manage to escape from being caught by Powerbroker’s men.
