Dear Spinning Circle,This episode of Wool n' Spinning Radio has been a long time coming - Melissa and I have been trying to connect for a while, seeing each other at our local Knots & Hops each month, bumping into each other at Knit City and Fibres West throughout the years and so much more. It was a pleasure to sit down with her and chat about her business and love of wool - her enthusiasm is unbelievably infectious. You can't help but feel sucked in by her love of the process from her favourite part of the process, washing, to picking and carding.Melissa's video on Picking Wool hereThank you to Melissa for sharing her journey to date and I look forward to chatting with her again this summer to record a Part II. From the Knit City merch booth:- the newly designed project bag- the Caterpillargreen custom colourway. From the UandIKnit’s booth:- two skeins of Julie Asselin’s squooshy Fino base in Birch and Riverbed (one each). So dreamy together, they will soon become a shawl. Pattern to be determined. From Caterpillargreen yarns:- The new Fade to Black colourway and the Get Happy! pattern by Kate Atherley. Looking forward to knitting this combo! From Kristan MacIntyre:- a beautiful shawl pin. It looks like an island. I love it so. an assortment of other items for Jocelyn’s knitterly advent calendar that need to be kept on the QT. Karla - Sapphire Label Fingering Weight 75% Superwash Merino Wool 25% Nylon 100g/423m Colour : psychedelic Onyx by Stitch Please www.stitchesbeslippin.com These are into half skeins and are dyed identically so you get exact stripes up your sock. I’ll use my Sock Architecture and Custom Socks Book to knit these up. Three skeins of Sweet Fiber in Cashmerino Worsted 183m/115g 80% superwash merino 10% cashmere and 10%nylon in colour Luna. These will be used to knit Sylvia Bo Bilvia’s Fossil & Bone Shawl. Caterpillar Green Yarn in the Knit City 2015 colour Shorn this Way. I bought the pattern that goes with it but don’t much like it so I’ll be pulling out a stitch dictionary and see what I can do for each stripe. Antler shed stitch markers from Caitlin Ffrench of thesesecrets.com Small Knit City project bag. Crochet Hook necklace by Kristan MacIntyre Tea Towels from Danica Studio. I’ll make project bags out of these. Jocelyn - Aquitaine cardigan pattern by Holli Yeoh Bradway Shawl Pattern by Shannon Cooke The Yarn Whisperer by Clara Parkes which she signed with a lovely and personalized inscription Knit City project bag Knit City custom colourway Shorn This Way dyed by Caterpillargreen Yarns, these sold out in 3 minutes on Saturday morning which totally made the 75 minute wait in line before the PNE opened totally worth it! Two skeins of the new base from Sweet Fiber called Canadian, the dark grey skein will be a hat for my husband (he lost the first one I made him and he’s been begging for another) and the pumpkin orange skein will be a companion hat for myself (but don’t tell my husband, he hates matchy matchy stuff like that and I’m going to make them different enough that he won’t notice….I hope) Three skeins of Sweet Fiber Merino Twist DK in the Tea Leaves colourway to go with the three that I bought last year. My plan is to use them for the Mezcal Cardigan by Thea Coleman. The Cabin Tote Bag from the Sweet Fiber booth One skein of Julie Asselin’s Fino base, same as one of Sarah’s but I can’t remember the name, she’ll know Kristan MacIntyre’s Stacking Rings/Stitch Markers set made of sterling silver and a little bobble of gold on one of the rings. They were my major purchase this year and I’m absolutely smitten with them. So much so that when I took the picture of my “Knit City 2015 Haul” I forgot to include the rings because I haven’t taken them off since I bought them! Also, I snagged a few special but secret items for my Ewe and Me Swap partner, she knows who she is and will probably have received the package by the time we record the podcast but I have to keep a few things close to my chest ;)
Today we are going local and talking to Fiona McLean and Amanda Milne — the duo behind Knit Social, a knitting events company based in Vancouver, BC. Together they produce Knit City, BC's largest annual fibre festival (Oct 2 to 4, 2015)
