Buster Martin burst onto the UK climbing scene as a 16-year-old by climbing Bat Route, a famous 14b at Malham. And even though he took a break from climbing, he didn't fizzle out entirely like many prodigies tend to do. Instead, he came back with a vengeance by climbing BOTH Hubble and Action Directe, becoming only the 2nd person to clip chains on both of these test pieces. Buster joins Kris to discuss Raven Tor and Hubble, trading texts with Ben while working both routes, the debates around Hubble, why history matters, and of course, what Ben Moon means to the British climbing scene. On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast Shannon speaks with Ryan Malham of Hinton Buildings. In 2015, after returning from working four years in Afghanistan, owner Ryan Malham (against the wishes of his wife, Christy) moved forward with selling wooden and metal buildings at the Princeton location. Things did not go well. After poor sales and lots of frustrating days without sales, Ryan eventually had to return to contracting in Afghanistan. He and Christy made an agreement about when he could return. She would work to learn how to sell buildings and he would work to build the website and Facebook marketing from his tiny room in Kabul. To hear the rest of the story, listen in.Also, find out how the podcast can be heard throughout the plain communities by dialing the number 330-997-3055. Our listeners are taking over Ramblings and guiding Clare on every walk of this new series. Today's adventure is led by three women who all qualified as mountain leaders in their 50s. Linda Moran, Angie Jaleel and Bev England explain why they wanted to take their love of the outdoors to a professional level by gaining qualifications later in life. Linda wrote to Ramblings and asked Clare to join them on one of their adventures, so - on a July afternoon, not long after the intense heatwave - they set off on a challenging six-mile hike around Malham in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Starting at Malham Car Park, they walked towards the dramatic, natural amphitheatre that is Malham Cove before ascending the steps that rise alongside it. After a steep climb they arrived at the top and - as they were making their way across the gappy, wobbly limestone pavement - watched a natural drama unfold as crows failed to guard their nest against a persistent and hungry peregrine falcon. From there they rambled east along part of the Dales High Way, taking in Gordale Scar (full of climbers scaling the almost sheer cliffs) before completing the loop via Janet's Foss waterfall. Malham Cove is a huge curving amphitheatre-shaped cliff formation of limestone rock about 260 feet high, and is one of the major tourist destinations and beauty spots in the Yorkshire Dales national park in England. At the bottom of the cliffs, the soundscape is calm and the air empty, carrying any sound large distances, and a small trickling stream is the main sonic feature on this quiet day, with pockets of birdsong and the odd passing rambler. Recorded by Cities and Memory.
Tim Malham delivers a reflection on Father's Day.
In Worth Doing Wrong, Malham provides strategies for creating a culture that will help you smash business goals, achieve win-win relationships with your clients, generate buzz in your community, and cultivate a workplace that you and your employees will love.

This month we visit the ever popular Malham Cove by way of an 18km round trip which sees us scramble up a Gorge and waterfall, hunt for ancient settlements, and wander past Limestone causeways. We visit one of the highest points in the area, which for such a popular area is often a quiet corner of the moors at Parsons Pulpit. The Cove has rose to fame again in recent years having been featured in a scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It's worth mentioning that the podcast is no substitute for a map, and the ability to read it. You'll be walking at times in some pretty remote areas:Make sure you confident in your abilitiesTell someone where you're going and when you're due backTake a rucksack with a sensible set of kitWe're also publishing each route through the Ordnance Survey online map service so members can access the detailed route card. There is a high chance that you won't have phone signal for the entirety of the walk, so be sure to download the episode to your
Bhaj Govindam In the first 6 verses Guru Shri Shankaracharya has been talking about the disease we are all infested with and the symptoms. In the 7th verse he told us the cause and in this very verse (verse 8) he will start helping us with the remedy or the solution to our illness - Delusion. No guru leaves us lurking in the dark, if they take away the world from us, or ruthlessly negate the path we are on, they would not leave a hollow spot, a solution, a remedy is always offered. The path to attain the eternal truth is being shown this verse onward. Mina Leslie-Wujastyk has already established herself as one of the best sport climbers in the country, with redpoints up to 8c. For the past few seasons she has been attempting Rainshadow, Steve McClure’s iconic 9a at Malham. It’s more than a step above her previous ascents, and initially something that it hadn’t even occurred to her to try. It seemed too unfeasible. When pushing the limit at some point you will find it. We often say this with risk taking, but the same is true when pushing your physical boundaries. Over time Mina has become more confident that she could successfully redpoint Rainshadow, but at first it was an impossible dream. Staying motivated for a few sessions on a route isn’t hard; but staying motivated when your project enters double digits and multiple seasons isn’t easy. I wanted to understand how Mina stays focussed on a long term goal, and how she does that in the face of the chance that she might never succeed. In the last episode with Dave Thomas we saw how a need for control, maintaining integrity and establishing your own identity were important. Finding ways to enter that elusive flow state was how Dave achieved this. Mina isn’t out for risk or resolving inner conflicts, but her story boils down to the same key features: desire, belief and understanding her own identity. The difference is that for Mina flow is a tool to be utilised. In the third episode of the podcast, I speak to Neil Heseltine, a farmer based at Hill Top Farm in Malham, the Yorkshire Dales. Neil is already diversifying his farm for the benefit of wildlife, moving away from sheep to Belted Galloway cattle. Much of the talk around rewilding centres on the uplands in Britain, but what could or does this mean for the rural communities that already live and work there? Neil shares his views of this and more in the interview.
Adam and Jeannie interview Arnie Malham to uncover his secrets to innovating culture for a better overall customer experience. Innovating culture for better experiences all around When starting a new company, we have a vision of how we want to be different – to have a great culture and a memorable experience. It’s easy to believe that if we hire the right people and train them well, then everything will fall into place. “I’m going to have a company where people are proud to put us on their resume.” -Arnie Malham But what happens when business gets challenging and stressful? What is your default mode of culture, and how does it affect your business? Without actively creating a culture that benefits everyone, what we thought was a solid culture succumbs to stress. Teams lose touch with the “why” and relationships suffer for the sake of getting things done. That’s why we’re thrilled to bring Arnie Malham to the show. Through painful trial and error, Arnie had discovered a highly innovative approach to creating and maintaining a healthy, more profitable culture. “Bad cultures get what they deserve which is typically not a long business model.” -Arnie Malham Arnie explains how he’s leveraged transparency and engagement for a culture that not only creates a happier, more productive workplace, but reaches out to employees’ families and captures the hearts of clients. Wouldn’t it be amazing if the spouses of your employees sent you thank you notes for sending their loved ones home happy and full of energy? How about creating cultural milestones that not only impress clients, but demonstrate your devotion to delivering a great experience? Arnie has shared lots of tips and secrets with us! And the best part is that these strategies can be used in any industry. Listen in! Interview Highlights What got Arnie focused on culture? [4:25] Why did Arnie start paying his team to read books, then eventually, create BetterBookClub.com? [7:05] How is Arnie recognizing employees and helping them recognize each other? [14:10] If Arnie is so big on recognition, then what’s with the “no birthday cake rule?” [16:42] Arnie takes cultural transparency to the next level – not just with the team, but with clients! [21:00] About our guest Without a clue as to how to run a company, Arnie Malham repeatedly “got it wrong” when it came to hiring, firing, and everything else related to building a business. Malham then stumbled upon a bold, culture-first approach that gave his fledgling company the momentum it needed to become a success. By putting culture first, cj Advertising grew to become the largest full-service brand-building agency in the country, exclusively for law firms. Arnie Malham created a small side venture to help a few clients market beyond just the TV station.
