Taking place Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event follows last year's success of collecting over 203,000 cans. With one in eight Georgians facing hunger, this initiative supports ongoing efforts during Christmas and beyond. Donations of canned proteins, vegetables, soups, and low-sugar or low-salt items are encouraged, while glass jars and baby food are not accepted. Drop-off locations include sites in Lawrenceville, Marietta, Decatur, Fayetteville, and Southwest Atlanta, or donors can contribute online at www.salvationarmyatlanta.org.  STORY 2:   Doug Ingram wins Mulberry District 5 runoff  Doug Ingram won the Mulberry City Council District 5 runoff election, defeating Michele Y. Sims by 67 votes. He secured 309 votes, or 56%, compared to Sims' 242. The results remain unofficial until certified by Gwinnett County's elections board. As the council works to establish the city's government with weekly meetings, Ingram is expected to join his first meeting on Dec. 10.    STORY 3: Seeking a new way of life under the sea - and a world record  Rudiger Koch, a 59-year-old aerospace engineer, is living 11 meters underwater off the coast of Panama in a 320-square-foot capsule as part of a four-month-long experiment to set a world record and promote ocean habitation. His home features essentials like a bed, toilet, TV, and internet, though it lacks a shower. Beyond breaking Joseph Dituri's 100-day underwater record, Koch aims to prove the viability of living and expanding human life under the sea. The capsule doubles as an artificial reef, benefiting marine life. Despite challenges like storms, Koch is supported by a team above water and is linked to the "seasteading" movement, advocating for ocean-based communities. Police, prompted by multiple complaints and surveillance footage, discovered stolen packages, marijuana, and anabolic steroids during a search of his apartment. Witzel, charged with theft, porch piracy, and drug-related offenses, remains in Gwinnett County Jail. The investigation continues, and anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 404-577-8477 for a potential cash reward.  STORY 5:   Georgia Gwinnett College celebrates top faculty and staff  Ryan Smith, a Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) alumnus turned employee, has made a remarkable impact on campus life. In this episode Chris explores Professor E.J. Michael Witzel's theory on the source and origin of all the mythologies of the world. A single explanation? Yes, indeed! Witzel uses a historical approach to comparative religion, aided by the latest in linguistic, archeological and DNA evidence to trace the myths of the world back to two distinct groups, an older one he calls Gondwana and a later one called Laurasian. Through this process he traces our myths back some 40,000 years and beyond, constructing a "family tree" of world myths and reconstructing their original form. What he finds is, not just common motifs and characters, but a single unifying story-line--a mythic history--which ties together the myths and religions of our ancient past. Enjoy ;)

Seine Texte evozieren fundamentale menschliche Erfahrungen und sind dabei höchst aktuell geblieben. Das gilt insbesondere für eine seiner bekanntesten Erzählung «Die Verwandlung». Eine mysteriöse Atmosphäre voller unterschwelliger Bedrohung erzeugt die junge Autorin Dizz Tate in ihrem Debütroman «Wir, wir, wir». Viel ist über die junge Autorin nicht bekannt. Sie bleibt fast so geheimnisvoll wie die 13-jährigen Figuren in ihrer Geschichte. Diese kreist um das Verschwinden eines Mädchens, der Tochter eines Predigers in einem kleinen Ort in Florida. Vom heutigen Literaturbetrieb und vom Prozess des Schreibens handelt die erste und gewichtigste Geschichte im neuen Erzählband des deutschen Schriftstellers Frank Witzel. Witzel hatte 2015 den Deutschen Buchpreis gewonnen. «Die fernen Orte des Versagens» heisst sein aktuelles Werk, das ganz unterschiedliche Erzählungen durch ein unsichtbares Band verbindet. «Für Seka» ist das Debüt der jungen Schweizer Autorin Mina Hava. Das Buch ist eine autobiografisch grundierte Recherche, vielstimmig und poetisch. Seka, deren Eltern als jugoslawische «Gastarbeiter» in die Schweiz kamen, versucht darin ihre Familiengeschichte zu verstehen. Michael Witzel is an important scholar discussed in the book 'Ten Heads of Ravana' and Manogna Sastry analyzes his work in her cogent essay. Sastry discusses one of the major themes of Witzel's academic work, consisting of his championing the Aryan Invasion/Migration into India theories, to the point of disregarding evidence and denigrating through ad hominem attacks, the works which challenge and have negated several of his central points. His proof and methodology have included “creating” evidence when none exists, through mistranslations and grammatical errors, to the point of distorting verses to suit his whims. When his claims have been discredited by others, Witzel has gone on to offer farcical explanations, even as the lack of academic ethics in his work stands tall. The essay highlights how such, instances demonstrate the poor scholarship that accompanies Witzel's work in a theme as crucial as the Aryan issue, for it has direct implications on the temporal and spatial origins of the Vedas and Sanskrit heritage. Witzel has been a vociferous critic of Indians wherever they are fighting for a fair and just representation of their history. He played a role, along with Marxist historians such as Romila Thapar, in trying to thwart the attempts made by Hindus in North America to correct the history textbooks of Grade VI taught in California Public Schools. Witzel's writings, laden under the garb of trying to protect “historical accuracy”, lays bare much of what is fallacious about his scholarship. The essay considers several such instances of Witzel's work to demonstrate why his work qualifies him as one of today's Intellectual Ravanas. Romila Thapar has been one of India's foremost historians, having held control of premier national educational and research institutions to influence academic discourse and government policies over decades. Anurag Sharma, in his brilliant essay, refutes Thapar's historiographical assumptions by providing strong counterexamples from Indian history. In the first section, he critically examines her views on the Islamic period of Indian history; in the second, her theories related to Hindu Dharma and the sacred texts such as Ramayana, Mahabharata and the Puranas; and in the third, her views on India as a nation and Hindu nationalism. Using evidence from fields of numismatics, archaeology, epigraphy, art and traditional texts to debunk many of the claims, Sharma makes a compelling case as to why Thapar's work is unreliable and cannot be assumed as the mainstream narrative if we wish to return to scientific, objective and fact-based representations of history.
