Sarah Hegazi was a queer Egyptian activist who was severely punished by the Sisi regime for waving a rainbow flag at the September 2017 Mashrou' Leila concert in Cairo. On the 14th of June, 4 years ago, Sarah died by suicide in exile in Canada. In this episode from September of that year, Hamed Sinno, lead singer of Mashrou Leila, reflects on her passing with Elia Ayoub. They also got into mental health, the port of Beirut explosion and what it was like to grow up queer in Lebanon. Wenn sich Pascal Weber in den TV-News aus Kairo oder Kabul meldet, dann spricht da einer, der nahe am Geschehen und direkt bei den betroffenen Menschen ist. Der Nahost-Korrespondent von SRF wird aber ab Mitte Jahr nicht mehr aus den Konfliktregionen im Nahen Osten berichten, sondern aus Washington. Pascal Weber machte seine ersten journalistischen Gehversuche beim Lokalradio. Als Reporter beim Schweizer Fernsehen war er zunächst beim Sport, bevor er zur Newssendung 10 vor 10 wechselte. Als Nahost-Korrespondent berichtete er aus Tel Aviv, Kairo und Beirut. Ab diesem Sommer wird er in der Amerikanischen Hauptstadt stationniert sein. Bei Musik für einen Gast wird Pascal Weber erzählen, wie man es in einem krisengeschüttelten Alltag schafft, einen kühlen Kopf zu bewahren und trotzdem Empathie zu zeigen. Und was für ein Gefühl es ist, seine Kinder in einem unsicheren Umfeld heranwachsen zu sehen. Vieles davon ist in seinem neuen Buch »Es reicht« beschrieben, das Mitte Juli erscheint. Pascal Weber wird auch die Sounds vorstellen, mit denen er jeweils versucht, sich abzulenken und den Lärm der Bomben zu übertönen. In recent years, Egyptian authorities have directed a brutal crackdown against its members. Ahmed El Hady discusses the recent intensification of repression and the crisis facing LGBTQ Egyptians. El Hady, an activist and a neuroscientist, situates the struggle for LGBTQ rights in Egypt within the broader quest for political freedoms that began in 2011. Any discussion of rights, he argues, must incorporate LGBTQ rights as well.
