Typically less researched than their large-cap counterparts, small-cap companies can easily rise to 'market darling' status. We all know the stocks. They're the ones that the bulls get hold of, causing them to rally to dizzying heights. They're often the ones discussed in stock chat rooms where warnings about ramping are largely ignored. Very often (almost universally) a market darling's price departs significantly from its fundamental reality, and these stocks can become overhyped and overbought. No points for guessing what happens next. So, how on earth are you meant to sort the wheat from the chaff? Which stocks are growing and have positive outlooks, but aren't overcooked? And which have run too hard? To find out, Livewire's Chris Conway was joined by Yarra Capital Management's Katie Hudson and Prime Value's Mike Younger for their analysis of three undiscovered gems. Plus, they also name and shame two overhyped duds. Note: This episode was filmed on Wednesday 5 April 2023. It hasn't been easy being a small-cap investor over the past 12-18 months. Since December 2021, the ASX Small Ordinaries has nosedived around 18%, while the S&P/ASX 200 (which tracks the country's listed large-cap companies) has posted modest gains over the same time period. So, where to from here? Well, having rebounded from a fresh low in March, it could be argued that small caps have reached their nadir, offering far more compelling value than their large-cap peers. Given the recent pause in interest rates, it's also worth noting that small caps typically bounce harder when the cycle turns. To explore these themes and more, Livewire's Chris Conway was joined by Yarra Capital Management's Katie Hudson and Prime Value's Mike Younger to discuss whether the worst is over for small caps, where they are finding pockets of value, and which stock they got wrong over the past 12 months. Plus, for a little bit of fun, we also asked them each to pick one small-cap stock they would go all-in on – but only if they had to, of course. Note: This episode was filmed on Wednesday 5th of April 2023. Australia's GDP growth has been on a steady decline for a while now. While the economy was still growing at a rate of 0.5% in the fourth quarter of 2022, that pace has slowed markedly from the 3.7% print seen in 2021. The December quarter of 2022 was the fifth consecutive period of economic growth, but it was also the smallest uplift of that period. That's likely because consumers are increasingly burning through their savings as cost pressures and interest rates remain elevated. So where can investors find growth in a low or even no-growth world? In this episode, Livewire's Chris Conway was joined by Yarra Capital Management's Katie Hudson and Prime Value's Mike Younger for their analysis of three small-cap stocks with big growth runways ahead of them. Plus, they each also name a high-conviction portfolio position with what they believe to be the best growth prospects over the year to come. Note: This episode was filmed on Wednesday 5 April 2023. In 2015 Mike and the North Nashville communities of Joelton, Whites Creek and Bordeaux found themselves in the path of a massive fossil fuel infrastructure expansion effort. A 60,000 HP compressor station, among the largest in the United States, was to be constructed in the midst of an otherwise thriving community and contribute a steady stream of toxic emissions(methane, benzene, NOx, CO) into the atmosphere(significantly impacting Nashville's overall attainment) as well as raising internal pressures and reversing flow along several poorly-maintained systems of Interstate Gas Pipelines crossing Tennessee. There was to be no discussion with the community and a very limited time to even comment! When neighbors asked for help, Mike was happy to oblige. Studying the route of the pipeline, Mike spent a great deal time photographing various hazards and problems at waterway crossings and other exposures/anomalies, in some cases deep in the back-country. While the community group CCSE (Concerned Citizens For A Safe Environment) mounted a grassroots campaign to challenge the compressor via legislation at Nashville Metro City Council, Mike compiled the 2015 Field Study Of Gas Pipeline Safety In TN and submitted it to environmental regulators at all levels of government. Congressman Jim Cooper subsequently called for a congressional inquiry into pipeline infrastructure maintenance across the US. PHMSA Inspectors were dispatched to view the various sites identified in the field study. In 2016, as word spread of the unconstitutional violation of human rights and the tribal sovereignty of the Lakota Sioux tribe by the Dakota Access Pipeline, Mike worked in partnership with numerous local state and national organizations to gather support materials and donations for the Oceti Sakowin camp blocking the construction of the Dakota Access pipeline. After witnessing the systematic violation of the rights of the indigenous tribes gathered at the excavation site and the violence unleashed by the private army assembled on the side of the Oil and Gas industry, Mike became an advocate for fossil fuel divestment, clean energy diversification and investment, and a critic of the environmental racism and abuse of marginalized communities across the US by fossil fuel interests and their enablers, and especially the obscene taxpayer subsidies awarded annually to this destructive industry's iron fisted grip on US energy policy. He remains committed to seeing the end of fossil fuel subsidies and energy policy hegemony and utilizes his platform as an artist to lend support to communities facing unwanted fossil fuel development.

Hayes Carll, To Keep From Being FoundJoe Stamm Band, Speed TrapJesse Dayton, White Freightliner BluesCody Johnson, Let's Build a FireScott Hirsch, WolvesRay Scott, Slow DanceThe Felice Brothers, To-Do ListJade Bird, Now is the TimeMike Younger, Ragtime AngelTK & The Holy Know-Nothings, The Incredible Heat MachineAndrew Taylor and The Harmonizers, Just Let It HappenMark & the Clouds, You & Me in SpaceScrimshanders, Hard To FindStarlite Campbell Band, GaslightThe Hello Darlins, Catch That Train
Make It UpCruzados, Nine Million TearsSamantha Fish, FasterNathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Love Me Till I'm GoneMike Younger, Baby What Can I SayAlly Venable, Hateful BluesTroy Wilson & Aaron Gillett, Blues In The DarkDavy Knowles, One & The SameArchie Lee Hooker & The Coast To Coast Blues Band, My BabyLake Street Dive, Know That I KnowStarlite Campbell Band, Stone Cold Crazy
Jane Lee Hooker, All Good ThingsThe Georgia Thunderbolts, Be Good To YourselfMike Younger, SoulsearchingRay Scott, 8 BallBilly F Gibbons, West Coast JunkieThe Record Company, Midnight MoonStarlite Campbell Band, Take Time To Grow OldMaggie Rose, You Got TodayGuy Davis, Spoonful (It's Alright, It's Alright)The True Loves, That's GoodTommy Castro, Child Don't GoMike Zito, You Don't Have MeDiane Durret & Soul Suga', Wish It Would Rain.

The Georgia Thunderbolts, Take It SlowGhost Hounds, Sleight of HandThe Record Company, Get Up And Dance!Maggie Rose, Do ItThe True Loves, Robin's RevengeTroy Wilson & Aaron Gillett, La CucarachaMike Younger, Lord of the FleasCody Johnson, Honky Tonk Hardwood FloorsJeremy Pinnell, Night Time EagleGarrett T. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Mike Younger left home at the age of 17 and cut his teeth as a fledgling street performer in Toronto and Vancouver. At the age of 20, he headed to New York City to seek out the 60's folk renaissance remnants. It was while performing live on WWOZ in New Orleans, that this renegade troubadour and poet of roots music caught his first break when a music publisher heard him on the broadcast. Soon after, Mike traveled to Nashville to record demos, and his recordings reached the ear of Rodney Crowell. When Mike signed his first record deal, Crowell stepped in as producer, and together they turned out Somethin' In The Air in 1999. In 2001, Jim Dickinson started producing Mike's second album, which never saw the light of day. The original Memphis sessions featured legends Levon Helm, Spooner Oldham, David Hood, with Jim Dickinson on piano, and his son Luther Dickinson on electric guitar. The tapes from that session fell into legal limbo and were lost for almost two decades. Now recovered, the recordings were completed and Mike finally released Burning The Big Top Down, on August 27th, 2021 Rodney Crowell has said of Mike Younger: “No-shit poetic realism with a tendency to museum qualities…” No Depression noted “His songs of social conscience suggest Woody Guthrie, John Mellencamp, and Steve Earle” And “Easy yet effective turns of phrases a la Kris Kristofferson” proclaimed the LA Times For more on Mike visit: www.mikeyounger.com

And actually, for the foreseeable future, I'm not running regular shows. I'm gonna do something scary, that I've thought about for a long time. I'm gonna share each of my albums in full, from start to finish, Of course, you can already stream all my music on Spotify, Google Play, Amazon Music, and lots other places. But now I’m going to share the show the podcast form as well. Back in the 70s, DJs played entire albums from start to finish. I decided to do that on the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. It was a great success for several artists. But I'm just like all artists. I get nervous about giving everything all my music away for free... even if I know it's a smart marketing move. I learned this lesson years ago on MP3.com. Since Halloween is just around the corner, it seemed appropriate to release my Happy Halloween Songs of Death as it could be called. Or for the ones you know my music Happy Songs of Death. This album was first released on August 20, 2009. It was produced by Ari Koinuma. He provided all of the background instrumentation. I did have some guest vocalists including Michael Younger, who died before the release of the album. It is dedicated to Michael. Show #48 was a tribute show I recorded for Michael back in 2009. Happy Songs of Death had two different album covers. One was designed by Nikki O'Shea. I called it "Death's Autoharp". It featured the Grim Reaper playing the autoharp with Nikki's popular comic book art style. The second was designed by Celtic artist Ingrid Houwers. I called that "The Wake" because there's Celtic death theme with merriment. It actually almost has a Celtic/Mexican Day of the Dead feel to it. Really cool. The songs are a mix of traditional Irish and Scottish songs as well as some traditional folk songs and several original songs as well. Subscribe at Celtfather.com if you want to find out more about some of the songs in the future. And if you have any questions, email me.

In this episode Karen Edelstein helps us understand how maps are used as a powerful tool in protecting our communities. Maps gives us a big picture view of the land, industrial activity, and even the various people and organizations working to protect the environment. By comparing maps and data we can discover new trends, even possibilities for our work. As mentioned in this episode: FracTracker Alliance FracTracker's Resource Page Map of New York State bans and moratoria on high volume hydraulic fracturing https://saneenergyproject.org/ http://www.youareherenymap.org/ HHN Episode 04 - Mike Younger, Backwoods Pipeline Surveys Bio: Karen Edelstein is the Eastern Program Coordinator for the FracTracker Alliance, a nonprofit organization that uses maps and other interactive media to communicate the risks of oil and gas development. As an environmental cartographer, she has worked for many conservation and government agencies over the past two decades. She started working with Fractracker in 2010 before fracking was a common part of the public vocabulary. Throughout this time she's created dozens of maps that document environmental resources and industry behavior – maps on geology, water withdrawal, waste transportation, and even the movements of public opposition to fracking. These maps give us the ability to see the bigger picture of how the oil and gas industry operates, as well as our own efforts to organize to protect our health and environment. Core Message: Maps are powerful tools for organizing activism, and FracTracker is there to help groups mobilizing against oil and gas development, and FOR renewables. When Mike Younger learned about a compressor station being built near hear farm he started to ask questions – after hiking out to visit pipelines in rural Tennessee he was spurred into action. He found places where the pipes were exposed, crossing rivers, or in dangerous flood zones. He started taking pictures, gathering data, and compiling a report. Now the pipeline survey is a substantial report which is costing pipeline companies hundreds of thousands of dollars – in fact – if the companies were regulated according to the law their business may not be viable. That’s why Mike is on a mission to show us how we can monitor the industries that impact our lives. If you're ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work, you're going to love this interview.Mike breaks down exactly how he started his survey, and gives us a blueprint for how we can leverage this valuable tactic to defend the land. I hope you enjoy this episode of the Halt the Harm Podcast with Mike Younger. As Mentioned in the Show: www.mikeyounger.com Download the 2015 Pipeline Survey The music video for "Poisoned Rivers" can be viewed at www.mikeyounger.com/clips-and-scraps/ Concerned Citizens for a Safe Environment Main Message: There comes a point where we need to roll up our sleeves and get to work. The tactic of exposing poor pipeline maintenance and putting it into a formal study to be disseminated at all levels of gov't is a viable tactic. Why? Because it's reproducible – pipelines are everywhere, and we can monitor the places where pipelines run through our communities with tools like google maps and a camera. What We Talked About: What initially mobilized him to challenge the oil and gas industry The lack of regulation of the industry – or regulation in favor of the industry How Mike started the Pipeline Survey The pipeline survey he conducted and HOW Just putting together the report wasn’t enough – he needed to get the attention of regulatory agencies and political representatives.
