This episode is sponsored by Lockton, click here to learn more MEMA, the Vehicle Suppliers Association, just concluded its 2024 Annual Conference, a premier gathering for automotive suppliers, thought leaders, and innovators committed to navigating the industry's toughest challenges and emerging trends. Inside MEMA, discussions tackled the industry's biggest question: how to adapt and thrive amidst escalating tariffs, China's rapid advancements, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence. Day one set a powerful tone as MEMA President Collin Shaw opened with a commitment to building high-performing, diverse teams—a pledge that resonated deeply with attendees. A spotlight session saw top leaders from Nissan, GM, and Toyota share how they're 'wargaming' future political and supply chain challenges. Their focus? Supporting suppliers and maintaining transparent communication. Then came a show-stopper: the BYD Seagull, a sleek EV priced under $10,000, which caught Jan's attention. Terry Woychowski from Caresoft explained that this low-cost model underscores China's competitive edge—its tight integration and simplicity. To stay competitive, he argued, the industry must embrace "quantum change," leaving incremental improvements behind.Day two continued with AI thought leader Noelle Russell, who urged companies to align AI innovations with core values and deploy them carefully. Her stance? AI isn't a job killer—it's a task killer, set to eliminate mundane tasks and boost workforce creativity. Then came Michael Dunne with a wake-up call about China's rising influence, urging the industry to pick up the pace before it's too late. The conference wrapped up with supplier CEOs Swamy Kotagiri and Ray Scott advocating a future based on aligned interests and transparency. Jan left with MEMA's powerful message ringing in her ears: "Together, we are invincible." Ray Scott was best known for his play-by-play broadcasts of the Green Bay Packers, along with Tony Canadeo. He was one of my all-time favorite sports announcers. With the CBS broadcast team he worked with Pat Summerall. He called the 1965 World Series on NBC television with Vin Scully. He also called the Milwaukee Brewers telecasts in 1976-77. In this podcast he'll talk about the Packers and give his thoughts on a book “Out of Their League” by former St. Louis Cardinals linebacker, Dave Meggyesy. It was a very controversial book badmouthing pro football. In the book he writes that pro football is a fraud, racist, with payoffs, drug abuse, and incredible violence. Ray Scott is in the Pro Football and Packers Hall of Fame. He was ranked 28th in the list of the Top 50 Sportscasters of All Time.

Born in Rock Hill, SC, Matt Tucker was raised on country music. Raised in a very musically inclined family, Tucker has always loved to sing and in 2008, he decided to get serious with his music career. He began playing in local honky-tonks with his father around Rock Hill, SC and he soon broke out as a solo artist playing acoustic gigs in the area. Tucker put together his first band a couple of years later and began to realize his full potential. He then started on his journey to Nashville. Tucker is influenced by some of country music's most known legends, such as George Strait, Alan Jackson, Johnny Cash, and Conway Twitty and modern artists like Jake Owen, Jason Aldean, Chris Stapleton, Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, and Garth Brooks. His southern upbringing shines through his songs and his music reflects the new country sound with some 90's rockin' ways. In 2013, Tucker made lots of friends in “Music City” Nashville, TN and in October of 2013, after being referred by Hall of Fame songwriter, Sam Tate, Tucker became a SESAC-affiliate known as Guitbox Publishing. Later in the same year, he released a four song “EP” produced and engineered by Pat Holt and recorded in Nashville, TN. In December, a CD release party at one of the Southeast's premier country night clubs, Coyote Joes in Charlotte, NC, helped spark his self-written single “Tonight”, a song that gained radio airplay. Tucker finished the new album “Where Did You Go” in 2017, which features versatile, fan-pleasing songs. Matt's high-energy stage presence and electrifying show has driven his growth in recent years. Matt and the band are continuing to grow, gaining popularity and fans across the U.S. and beyond. The band, including 5 talented musicians, a built-in Road Manager and Sound Engineer, have their eyes set straight for the top. Having toured the Southeast U.S. promoting the single “Blue Collar Anthem” from the album “Where Did You Go”, the band shared the stage with some of the greatest names in the country music industry such as Jason Michael Carrol, Trent Tomlinson, Blackhawk, Josh Thompson, Jeff Bates, Ray Scott, Outshyne, LoCash, Chase Rice, Chris Lane, Canaan Smith, many regional up-and-comers and the list goes on! Matt and the boys continue to work hard to put together a crowd-pleasing, high-energy show that showcases Matt's original songs while covering old favorites and current day hits. Matt Tucker is currently one of the Carolinas' top independent country acts and he continues to spread his fan-base well beyond the region. Tucker plans to bring the package until the receiver is found! Look out for MT "Country Rockin" a town near you! “There's a basic insecurity with Black guys my size,” Scott writes. “We can't hide and everybody turns to stare when we walk down the street. … Whites believe that their culture is superior to African-American culture. ... We don't accept many of [their] answers, but we have to live with them.” Ray Scott was part of the early wave of Black NBA players like Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and later Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who literally changed how the game of professional basketball is played—leading to the tremendously popular financial blockbuster the NBA is today. Scott was a celebrated 6'9” forward/center after being chosen by the Detroit Pistons as the #4 pick of the 1961 NBA draft, and then again after he was named head coach of the Pistons in October 1972, winning Coach of the Year in the spring of 1974—the first black man ever to capture that honor. Scott's is a story of quiet persistence, hard work, and, most of all, respect. He credits the mentorship of NBA player and coach Earl Lloyd, and talks about fellow Philly native Wilt Chamberlain and friends Muhammad Ali and Aretha Franklin, among many others. Ray has lived through one of the most turbulent times in our nation's history, especially the time of assassinations of so many Black leaders at the end of the 1960s. Through it all, his voice remains quiet and measured, transcending all the sorrows with his steadiness and positive attitude. The NBA in Black and White: The Memoir of a Trailblazing NBA Player and Coach (Seven Stories Press, 2022) is his story, told in collaboration with the great basketball writer, former college player and CBA coach Charley Rosen. Paul Knepper covered the Knicks for Bleacher Report. His first book, The Knicks of the Nineties: Ewing, Oakley, Starks and the Brawlers That Almost Won It All was published in 2020. There's a paradox in America right now. Every boss can't find employees, and every unemployed person can't find a job. Clearly, there's an issue somewhere in the hiring process. Gene has identified at least one of them: bad resumés but not Ray Scott. Basketball players that listened to the coach. That coach was Ray Scott. He's still got his finger on the pulse of the game, so he can tell you just how different things really were. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Basketball has changed over the years. These days, basketball players are 11 feet tall and can throw a basketball at the speed of sound. Or something like that. In years gone by, it was much more methodical. You had a designated shooter, and players listened to the coach. That coach was Ray Scott. He's still got his finger on the pulse of the game, so he can tell you just how different things really were.
