We're back once again for another Very Special Episode of Wrestling Omakase! John is LIVE ON LOCATION from the Conrad and also a random AirBNB in Tokyo, as they're joined by returning guest Paul and THE BEBBLER to discuss all things Wrestle Kingdom 18! All three of them go over everything you could ever want to know about attending WK live, including various seat sections and what you might get when you choose them, beer girls (and their fanboys), fan calls, food options and much more! They also of course review the show in some detail and give their thoughts on the various matches. Once that's out of the way, it's time to go BACK IN TIME to earlier recorded audio with John & Paul from their AirBNB (which is why the sound is slightly different- it had a very high ceiling!) following the AJPW 12/31 show from Yoyogi National Gymnasium #2. John & Paul discuss the incredible Miyahara vs. Nakajima main event, Nakajima's Inoki tribute trolling, a big junior title change, and just talk about how much better it is to attend shows in Japan than in the West in general.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

P., Pletnikov, M. V., Kamiya, A. Abstract: Adolescent cannabis use increases the risk for cognitive impairments and psychiatric disorders. Cannabinoid receptor type 1 (Cnr1) is expressed not only in neurons and astrocytes, but also in microglia, which shape synaptic connections during adolescence. Nonetheless, until now, the role of microglia in mediating the adverse cognitive effects of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis, has been unexplored. Here, we report that adolescent THC exposure produces microglial apoptosis in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), which was exacerbated in the mouse model of 16p11.2 duplication, a representative copy number variation (CNV) risk factor for psychiatric disorders. These effects are mediated by microglial Cnr1, leading to reduction in the excitability of mPFC pyramidal-tract neurons and deficits in social memory in adulthood. Our findings highlight the importance of microglial Cnr1 to produce the adverse effect of cannabis exposure in genetically vulnerable individuals. Copy rights belong to original authors. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.02.02.526771v1?rss=1 Authors: Qi, C., Hasegawa, M., Takao, M., Sakai, M., Sasaki, M., Mizutani, M., Akagi, A., Iwasaki, Y., Miyahara, H., Yoshida, M., Scheres, S., Goedert, M. Abstract: Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) occurs in some individuals after measles infection, following a symptom-free period of several years. It resembles chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which happens after repetitive head impacts or exposure to blast waves, following a symptom-free period. As in CTE, when present, the neurofibrillary changes of SSPE are concentrated in superficial cortical layers. Here we used electron cryo-microscopy of tau filaments from two cases of SSPE to show that the tau folds of SSPE and CTE are identical. Two types of filaments were each made of two identical protofilaments with an extra density in the {beta}-helix region. Like in CTE, the vast majority of tau filaments were Type I, with a minority of Type II filaments. These findings suggest that the CTE tau fold can be caused by different environmental insults, which may be linked by inflammatory changes. Copy rights belong to original authors. Ryan and Alex are finally back to discuss the past few weeks of professional wrestling! New Japan Pro Wrestling's (another) annual tournament kicked off as the marks discuss G1 Climax 30. A few MOTY buzz and some surprises over the weekend as they run down the rest of schedule to give their eventual winners to see who will wrestle January 4th at the Dome. AEW went ALL OUT as they cover the event and post PPV storylines from Jacksonville. Paul Heyman alligns himself with Roman Reigns and Ryan will discuss if this new demeanor will get the Big Dog over (or if it even matters anymore). Dragon Gate held its crazy, yet effective Six-Way Steel Cage match with so many stipulations you'll just want to watch Dangerous Gate as we will preview the show. Prepare to have your minds blown with the bonkers bout. Alex procrastinated and wrote this description instead of watching Ashino v Miyahara for Night 3 of Champions Carnival, so prepare to listen while Ryan is disappointed to wait until Thursday. Back to Kuroken Hall, back to AJPW, but this time we're diving into something a little more contemporary. For the first time the gang will be discussing the somewhat divisive Kento Miyahara as we look at a main event contest from early 2019. The Ace of All Japan Pro Wrestling Kento Miyahara defends his Triple Crown Heavyweight Title against challenger KAI. Will this be the first defense in a long 4th reign as Champion for the Miyahara, or will the King of Freedom finally climb to the top of the mountain? And joining the team for this episode to add some data to our informal research project is Bryan Condon! (@BryanCondon) [Kento Miyahara vs Kai, AJPW New Year Wars 2019, January 3 2019]
On this month’s edition of POST Puroresu, WH Park is joined by Dylan Fox of the Eastern Lariat Podcast. New Japan announces additional G1 locations, and a return to the Madison Square Garden in August for Wrestle Dynasty along with lessons to learn from their recent U.S. tour. Then, it’s onto All Japan with a look at this past week’s Excite Series card from Korakuen Hall with Kento Miyahara vs. Yuma Aoyagi for the Triple Crown, Susumu Yokosuka’s junior heavyweight title defense against Francesco Akira, and the names announced for the Champion Carnival that includes Davey Boy Smith Jr. and NOAH’s Takashi Sugiura. "The Love Between Us"Seiji and Midori continue trying to continue living with their whole fused body thing. Being fed up with it already, Seiji makes plans to visit the girl's house after school, despite Midori's protests. When a gang of thugs show up to the school looking for him, Seiji refuses to fight them. Takako Ayase, the school body president, tries to confront them. When one of the gang hits Ayase, Seiji springs into action, sending them all packing. This only ends badly, as the thugs kidnap Seiji's friend, Miyahara, in retaliation. Leaving to contront them, Seiji is followed by Ayase, who know wants to understand the yankee bully. Things are getting a little serious for a romantic comedy. Can Seiji save Miyahara? Will Seiji save Miyahara? Join our discussion and find out what we thought. Come along for more bits and tits. Here on Midori Days episode 2!Note: In this episode Robert confuses the actor Jay Baruchel with another actor, Justin Long. This transgression is inexcusable and know he has been warned. We apologize.
This week on Wrestling Omakase we look at the end of a tour and two tournaments. John is joined by returning guest TJ (@aspir_) as they start by discussing their upcoming weekend, including two meet-ups ahead of NJPW FSU (NYC 3 pm at Pioneers Bar, Philly noon at Toll Man Joes!) and also a little bit of #animetalk. Once they actually get to the wrestling they start with New Japan, as John and TJ talk all about the Destruction in Kobe event. A lot of time is spent on the Naito-White main event as John breaks down all the reasons why they loved it, plus offers some takes on Naito's booking and some Naito fans that you may find a little surprising from them. Then the two of them break down the rest of the show, including an awesome Shingo-Goto match and the end of the Young Lions Cup. They wrap up the New Japan talk by looking ahead at the Fighting Spirit Unleashed cards plus King of Pro Wrestling and speculate about Power Struggle and the Dome. After NJPW they turn their attention to All Japan, as the two of them wrap up the Oudou Tournament that we started covering last week. We talk all four second round matches, two of which we both really loved, and then the semifinals and finals (which we disagree a bit on). Plus we discuss whether or not Jake Lee can still be saved and more. Then our last promotion discussed is STARDOM where we break down the finals of the 5STAR Tournament, Hana Kimura's last few matches in general, and TJ offers some recommendations for the rest of the tournament if you're way behind (like John was!). Finally, we tackle a big mailbag this week featuring lots of questions on all 3 companies, including: who will the next THREE World of STARDOM champions be? Who should beat Miyahara and when? What's the best inanimate object in STARDOM? Is there a ceiling for how good a Young Lion match can be? And much more! The show is finally back, and just in time to review AJPW’s Champion Carnival. I analyse all the major matches, go over the most/least impressive wrestlers, list my top 10 matches, and give my overall thoughts on the tournament and the winner, plus the implications for All Japan going forward. My bite-sized ideas: “Triple Crown champ Nomura by the end of 2019, or else I walk”“Zeus in the company for the next 15 years, in which case I stay”“Miyahara probably doesn’t deserve my vitriol”“Ishikawa, Okabayashi, and James are in the next Godzilla film”“You’re all wrong on which matches were great”“Hey, these wrestlers repeated their sh*t for 18 days, so excuse me if I likewise repeat my comments” * Follow me on Twitter: @puregradepuro * Official Podcast: Youtube – Apple Podcasts – Podbean
We are live tonight at 10pm CST talking all things Wrestling. 1-347-857-1060 is the number to listen via live. We open the show tonight breaking down the entire New Japan Cup, and the outcome leading into MSG. We also discuss that MSG show, and if the tournament winner was that obvious, or did Ryan just over think it? We know Isaiah Davidson didn't, as he won the bracket challenge. Speaking of MSG show, we talk the entire card and how big of a weekend stealer this one may be. Is it balanced enough between both companies? Does one stand out? We talk everything. Ryan cannot stop raving about his quarter one MVP in Kento Miyahara, who just had another show stealer and potential match of the year on March 19th against a first time challenger in Naoya Nomura. Did they make a new star for the company? The show drew the biggest gate of the year at Korakuen for this first time Title challenge, and the fans were totally behind him. What's next for Miyahara, and can Nomura make a run in the Champions Carnival? Alex says were going to "Shoot" tonight and Ryan couldn't ask for anything else. What's the topic? Who knows, but it will always be fun. Dave Ritter also is going to call in early and talk about seeing The Elite at C2E2 from Chicago as well. This week on Wrestling Omakase John is joined by returning guest Eyean (@skrongstyle) to discuss the latest from All Japan Pro Wrestling! John & Eyean start the episode off with a recap of the Champion Carnival and some thoughts on their favorite matches from this year's league, including of course the Miyahara-Marufuji final. Once that's done we then turn our attention to May 24th's big Korakuen show, which again saw Miyahara take on Marufuji, this time for the Triple Crown! We go match-by-match discussing the entire card, which also included Jake Lee's big return from injury. Once we're done we do a bit of a puro grab bag segment as we discuss recent happenings in Big Japan and thoughts on Okada-Tanahashi in New Japan, among other topics. It's another fun trip through puroresu, this week on Wrestling Omakase!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/wrestling-omakase/donationsWant to advertise on this podcast? And much more!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/wrestling-omakase/donationsWant to advertise on this podcast? Go to https://redcircle.com/brands and sign up.
