This week on A Waste of Time with ItsTheReal, we went out to LA to sit down with the legend himself, John Monopoly, to talk about being the at the epicenter of the Chicago music scene for almost thirty years! Known most notably for his work as Kanye West's manager, we talk about his upbringing in Chicago's Johnson family, his early Soul Train memories, going to grade school with Common and No I.D., promoting shows and making beats and getting money in high school, meeting Kanye back in 1990, why he decamped for Atlanta and why he returned home and what Jay Boogie means to the city. We discuss Mnop meeting his cousin Don C and how they took over the night life scene in the Windy City, how they got The Beatnuts to town, the story behind bringing Jay-Z and Foxy Brown to the Chi, and of course, the city's most notorious party celebrating the hottest rapper on the scene, Da Brat. John goes into detail about trying to break the Go Getters and Kanye West records, attending the Mixshow Power Summit, making and maintaining relationships, how Chris Lighty recruited Mnop to work at Violator Management, and what it felt like to leave Chicago for New York. We reminisce on Kanye's chaining day, how he got the news of Kanye's car crash, the initial struggles of Through the Wire on the radio, how Syleena Johnson ended up on All Falls Down, the highs of The College Dropout and The Grammys and ultimately what led to his parting ways with Ye in 2008. We discuss John's work with Valee, Z Money, Virgil Abloh, Hitmaka FKA Young Berg, Dreezy, King Louie, his nephew London on Da Track, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Dirtbag, Cool & Dre, G.O.O.D. Music, Mona Scott, Todd Moscowitz, Puffy, Cam'ron and Jim Jones, his being diagnosed as bipolar, the value in discussing mental health, and much, much more! The quote I am going to start with today reads: "Strength doesn't come from what you can do, it comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t"
This weeks Millennial Nugget of purpose comes from a member of the leader’s audience and it reads, "I know I need to start following my purpose, but I’m afraid to. Can you help?" The quote I am going to start with reads: “All of your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them." Courage is what we need to overcome. Overcome challenges, our thoughts, the opinions of others, and fear. Fear is the antagonist of courage. It is the nagging young sibling that continues to pick and pick until you given in to it’s whims. Fear is a personality trait that each of us have and no one wants to talk about. It is what keeps us on the sidelines allowing our hopes and dreams to pass us by. Some of us have built a tough skin to the whims of fear and some of us have not, which is why I am going to give you three tips to put fear in time out and go after you dreams. Press play and listen to the three tips to put fear in time out and go after your dreams. This is just another step in becoming the best version of you. As Always: Be Inspiring & Stay Inspired.

This weeks Millennial Nugget of Purpose is all about profitable habits. The quote I am going to start with today reads: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." It hadn’t hit me of the power of a habit until I was asked by my daughter “why do you always make up your bed?” It wasn’t until then that I realized how much control and power we truly have over ourselves. A habit is defined as an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary. Think about when you were a child and how your parents told you to look both ways before crossing the street. This has become so ingrained in us that we don’t even think about it when we come to an intersection. These are deep seeded behaviors, but old ones can be changed and new ones can be formed. Press play to learn 3 habits that you can form that will have massive impact on your financial success!
Starting something new is always scary. Will it work... Will I fail...do I have what it takes? Courage is not the absence of fear, it is doing that which scares you in spite of it. Owning a business doesn't have to be hard. Let me show you where to start... The first step is to press play!
Why don’t more people aspirer to create and turn what was thought to be impossible into the possible? Why do they allow this to stifle their thinking... Create indecisiveness... And worst of all procrastination? Want to know how to defeat this enemy that is inside each and every one of us? The first step is to press play!
Have you ever wondered how the most successful people get so much done in a day? I’ll tell you a secret...it has nothing to do with them being smarter, more creative, or even better than you. It comes down to one simple word... Focus. Many of us feel stuck, powerlessly trapped, and frustrated when we do not get our goals done... We had the best of intentions but we find that the day slipped by... Or there aren’t enough hours in the day. So how can you join the elite and make the time to get all of the things you desire to get done in your day? Press play to learn the 3 ways you can ditch the excuses and focus on the things that matter.
Have you ever been turned down by a client? Passed over for the big contract? It feels terrible. You begin to doubt the things you thought of yourself, and you might even convince yourself that it was a stupid idea to go after that anyway. Rejection is something that we will all face. It is apart of life. But if you allow yourself to stay in the rut of rejection and don’t climb out, you will be destined to live in mediocrity. Is there a magic pill that you can take that will remove the sting, or take away the bruised ego? No, but there are ways to change your perspective and actually flourish from the next time you are rejected. Listen for the 3 ways you can use that once perceived set back, as a set up for greatness.
Do you have ideas that you have buried because you didn’t think you could do them? Tired of this holding your potential hostage? Keep scrolling if you don’t want the answer! [4:19]

This weeks Millennial Nugget Of Purpose is a continuation of last week's where I was asked by one of my new coaching clients, "How do I know if I should be an entrepreneur?" The quote I am going to start with today comes from Steve Jobs and it reads: "Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life" Being an entrepreneur sounds so exciting and tempting. No more bosses, no pressure from a job which is not satisfying you, and no limited pay check. Sounds pretty good, right? Entrepreneurial life is definitely really exciting. But 9-5 will almost immediately turn to 24/7. Your customers become your new bosses and the size of your paycheck will vary from month to month. If you persist, work hard enough and innovate, you can join the “club” of successful entrepreneurs. However, the thought of a fluctuating paycheck and hours shifting from a normal day job to an all day job, can bring serious reservations to making the jump. So how do you decide what makes the most sense for you? Press play and listen to the three ways most entrepreneurs think differently. Which road will you take? Listen and find out! This is just another step in becoming the best version of you. As Always: Be Inspiring & Stay Inspired.
This weeks Millennial Nugget Of Purpose is a bit different as it came from one of my new coaching clients, and it was, "How do I know if I should be an entrepreneur?" I love interacting with my audience so if you have any comments or questions that you would like answered on an MNOP please email me koy@leadersinspireleaders.com. This weeks Millennial Nugget Of Purpose comes from a member of the leaders' audience and it reads, “why do I need to partner, am I missing something?" The quote I am going to start with today comes from Helen Keller and it reads: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Press play and listen to the three things I've learned about strategic partnerships so you will expand your business, and set yourself up for success. This is just another step in becoming the best version of you. As Always: Be Inspiring & Stay Inspired.
This weeks Millennial Nugget Of Purpose comes from a member of the leaders audience and it reads “How important is a personal brand?" The quote I am going to start with today comes from Zig Ziglar and it reads: “If people like you they will listen to you, but if they trust you, they’ll do business with you.” Having a personal brand is what differentiates you from others, it is the words that people would use to describe you. The pitfall that many fall into, is focuses only on the personal brand and not on the work that they are doing. Creating a facade of success instead of creating success. People are pretty good at seeing through facades and you don’t have to remember the lie you told if you just tell the truth. Be authentic and focus on what you do best and you will find that your work, and personal brand will build simultaneously. Press play and listen to the three tips that will help you build a personal brand in no time! This is just another step in becoming the best version of you. As Always: Be Inspiring & Stay Inspired.
This weeks Millennial Nugget Of Purpose comes from a member of the leaders audience and it reads “I’ve been asked several times to be a mentor, should I consider being a mentor?" This weeks Millennial Nugget Of Purpose comes from a member of the leaders audience and it reads “I am at the end and I don’t know how to keep going in my business. Do you have any advice?" Press play and listen to the three ways to cope with struggle and a inspirational story that will change the way to you look at struggle forever! This is just another step in becoming the best version of you. As Always: Be Inspiring & Stay Inspired.

This weeks Millennial Nugget Of Purpose comes from a member of the leaders audience and it reads "finding our passion and turning that into a business."
This weeks Millennial Nugget Of Purpose comes from a member of the leaders audience and it simply read eating an elephant. This expression was used by Dr. Anthony Hylick in the episode entitled "Your Plan A.” I love interacting with my audience so if you have any comments or questions that you would like answered on an MNOP please email me koy@leadersinspireleaders.com, thats koy@leadersinspireleaders.com or visit the website and leave me a voicemail leadersinspireleaders.com, thats leadersinspireleaders.com The quote I am going to start with today comes from Creighton Abrams and it reads "When eating an elephant, take one bite at a time.” Starting this podcast was one of my elephants & now that I have accomplished that. Building the brand Leaders Inspire Leaders to be synonymous with greatness is where I am heading next! An elephant in this expression is a very large goal that you have set for yourself. If you view things as one big goal it can be a daunting task like trying to eat an elephant by yourself. So why not change your mind set and enjoy the bites along the journey? I know this is easier said than done, so here are 3 techniques I used and I know they will help you too. #1 Have A Big Why & A Little Why Having big goals is what keeps us motivated and striving towards the prize of becoming the best versions of ourselves. Once you have that locked in, create smaller goals and a timeline of achievement to get you to your elephant. #2 To-Do List Every night before bed write out 3 goals that you will accomplish in steps towards your elephant. This has nothing to do with your day to day tasks or running errands. These 3 goals only apply to that big goal that you have set. Maybe it is find a domain for your business if your goal is to have one. It could be to complete a 501 c 3 form if your goal is to start a charity or non-profit. #3 Make Your Small Goals Be Performance Goals Not Outcome Goals What I mean by this is you should set goals that you have as much control over as possible. It can be very disheartening to fail to achieve a personal goal due to things beyond your control. Basing your goals on personal performance helps you keep control over the achievement of them, and you will draw satisfaction from accomplishing them. If you take one bite at a time, that elephant will not stand a chance! As always Be Inspiring & Stay Inspired
