What are submission deficiencies due to biocompatibility and how do medical device companies overcome them in trials, studies, and regulatory post-market surveillance? In this episode of the Global Medical Device Podcast, Etienne Nichols talks to Chris Parker, Associate Department Head of In-Vivo Biocompatibility at Toxikon Corporation on how to overcome and prevent those submission deficiencies. Some of the highlights of this episode include:When a manufacturer puts their package together for a submission to the FDA, if it is not approved, then the FDA issues a deficiency or request for additional information due to a question or issue with some part of the submission. If a deficiency is issued, the FDA allows the manufacturer to handle it in one of two ways—either correct it through a memo/risk assessment or retest. It is better to be proactive rather than reactive when addressing a deficiency. A little bit of time upfront with the FDA will save a lot of time on the backend.Competition: When most medical devices are being developed, there is intent. Either it's a completely new idea or existing product that another manufacturer offers that you want to build or improve upon.Prop 65 and new European regulations strive to keep out carcinogens, mutagens, reproductive toxins, and other compounds that at certain thresholds may be of concern and should not be included in devices or labeling is required. When it comes to quality, ISO standards and FDA regulations are in the best interest of the patient but may be a costly burden for the manufacturers. It takes units of a medical device to complete evaluations for biocompatibility testing. It takes days, months, or requires extensions for some companies to do remedial work and meet expectations when responding to a deficiency.Implement quality from the beginning with a quality management system (QMS) to understand expectations of standards, practices, and regulations. Memorable quotes from Chris Parker:“In a fair number of instances, there are cases where the FDA issues what we call a deficiency. It's otherwise known as a request for additional information. But generally, what it is, is they have a question or an issue with some part of the submission.”“Be proactive, not reactive because then a little bit of time upfront will save you a lot of time on the backend.”“A lot of devices, when they are being developed, you're doing it with intent in mind. Either it's a completely novel, new idea or you saw a product and you said there's a greater market than a particular other manufacturer offers, we want to jump into it or we want to improve it.”“Let's try to keep out anything of potential concern that we can at any concentration.”Links:Chris Parker on LinkedInLabcorpEtienne Nichols on LinkedInFDA - Overview of Device RegulationFDA - Select Updates for Biocompatibility of Certain Devices in Contact with Intact SkinISO 10993-1:2018 - Biological evaluation of medical devicesProposition 65European Union Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR)Medical Design and Manufacturing Event (MD&M West)GG AcademyMedTech NationGreenlight Guru

Maternal dietary choline deficiencies during pregnancy and lactation reduce cerebral blood flow in 3-month-old female mice offspring following ischemic stroke to the sensorimotor cortex

Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2022.08.23.505040v1?rss=1 Authors: Pull, K., Folk, R., Kang, J., Jackson, S., Guesk, B., Esfandiarei, M., Jadavji, N. M. Abstract: A maternal diet that provides adequate nutrition during pregnancy and lactation is vital to the neurodevelopment of offspring. One-carbon metabolism plays an important role in the closure of the neural tube of the developing embryo; however, the impact of maternal one-carbon dietary deficiencies on offspring neurological function later in life remains relatively unknown. Stroke is one of the leading causes of death globally, and its prevalence is expected to increase in younger age groups as the incidence of various risk factors for stroke increases. The aim of our study was to determine the impact of maternal nutritional deficiencies on cerebral blood flow and peripheral hemodynamics after ischemic stroke in adult offspring. In this study, adult female C57BL/6J mice were placed on either control (CD), choline (ChDD) or folic acid (FADD) deficient diets for four weeks to deplete stores prior to mating and maintained on the assigned diet during pregnancy and lactation. Female offspring were weaned and transitioned to a CD for the duration of the study. Ischemic stroke was induced in the sensorimotor cortex of 2- and 10-month-old female offspring using the photothrombosis model. Six weeks after induction of stroke, cerebral and peripheral blood flow was measured using the Vevo2100 Pulse Wave Doppler tracing modality. Our data showed that 3.5-month-old female offspring from a ChDD mothers had reduced blood flow in the posterior cerebral artery compared to CD mice; this effect disappeared in older offspring. In 11.5-month-old females we observed changes in peripheral hemodynamics, but not in young animals. Our findings suggest that a maternal dietary deficiency in choline results in reduced cerebral blood flow in adult female offspring after ischemic stroke, but the long-term effects are not present. This result points to the key role of the maternal diet in early life neuro-programming, while emphasizing its effects on both fetal development and long-term cerebrovascular health. Top 4 CAUSES of B Vitamin Deficiencies

Health Made Easy with Dr. Jason Jones

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 12, 2022 5:14

What Causes B vitamin Deficiency? - Dr. Jason Jones Elizabeth City NC, Chiropractor We've talked about the types of B vitamins, benefits, and common symptoms of B vitamin deficiency in our last posts. In this post, we'll quickly discuss the most common causes of these deficiencies. You probably believe it's only about poor diet, but that's not all. We will show you more in this article. But before we talk about the causes of B vitamin deficiencies, it is important to note that while each of the eight B vitamins plays important roles in the body, each of them also yield different deficiency levels, which can lead to number of different symptoms over time. Thiamine and folate deficiencies, for example, are quite rate across the U.S. But research has shown that about 6% of children and adults younger than age 60 suffer vitamin B12 deficiency, while around 20% of adults older than age 60 have a deficiency. Without further do, let's get the causes of B vitamin deficiency. What causes B vitamin Deficiency? Here are the top four causes of B vitamin deficiency: A Non-balanced diet B-vitamins cannot be produced or stored in the body. This means you can only get them from your diet. But eating a non-balanced diet, your body will not get the right level of nutrients and you tend to suffer B vitamin deficiency. If you follow a vegan or vegetarian diet, for example, you may not be getting enough of vitamin B12 because it is more commonly found in animal-based foods and dairy products. So it is important to always eat a balanced diet loaded with vitamin-rich foods. Excessive alcohol consumption When you drink too much of alcohol, one of the downsides is that it rips you of vitamin B. Here's how it happens – Taking alcohol causes your kidneys to flush B vitamins out of your system more quickly. This means your body does not get all the time it needs to utilize B vitamins as they quickly go to waste due to excess alcohol consumption. Gut Malabsorption Conditions B vitamins are normally absorbed by the gut into your bloodstream under normal conditions. The bloodstream transports these vitamin to all parts of your body where they are needed. So it is important for the B vitamins to get into your bloodstream. But if you have gut malabsorption problems, such as Crohn's disease, Celiac disease or ulcerative colitis, your gut may not be able to absorb B vitamins into the bloodstream. This causes a deficiency and potential harm to your wellbeing. Medications Some types of prescription medications can cause you to suffer B vitamin deficiency. Medications such as anticonvulsants, hydralazine, isoniazid, and corticosteroids can increase your likelihood of suffering vitamin B6 deficiency. Medications such as phenytoin, trimethoprim – sulfamethoxazole, sulfasalazine, and methotrexate can increase your chances of suffering vitamin B deficiency. Medications like antacids, metformin, proton pump inhibitors (PPIS), antidepressants, and long-term antibiotics can increase your likelihood of suffering vitamin B12 deficiency. There you have it, the four common causes of B vitamin deficiency. If you're showing symptoms of B vitamin deficiency, it may be because you're not foods loaded with these vitamins. If you're showing signs of lightheadedness, tiredness, shortness of breath, and other symptoms of deficiency, it is advisable that you check your B vitamin level. Ensure that you talk with your healthcare provider to diagnose the problem and come up with the best treatment measure. You can consult Dr. Jason Jones at our Chiropractic office in Elizabeth City NC, to learn more about the causes of B vitamin deficiency and how to ensure you're eating a healthy, balanced diet loaded with vitamins.

On this week's episode of Fast Facts - Perio Edition, Katrina Sanders, continues her discussion around dental implants, today discussing new findings that have come down from our friends at the American Academy of Periodontology around what we understand about the etiology of hard and soft tissue deficiencies at dental implants.    Quotes:    “So this is where they have developed a very specific diagnostic classification system where we as clinicians are expected to understand the etiology of these deficiencies, and based on these understandings, then build out strategies to correct these deficiencies. These deficiencies will fall either into soft tissue deficiencies or hard tissue deficiencies.”   “So when we take a look at some of these conditions, and these, of course, are all of the conditions that can impact the success of a dental implant even before the implant is placed. Things like tooth loss, periodontitis, even things like trauma from tooth extraction, endodontic infections, longitudinal root factors, trauma, bony height, and even systemic diseases can deeply impact the ability for a dental implant to be successful.”     Resources:   DentistRX: https://www.dentistrx.com  More Fast Facts: https://www.ataleoftwohygienists.com/fast-facts/    Katrina Sanders Website: https://www.katrinasanders.com  Katrina Sanders Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedentalwinegenist/    Renvert, Stefan, G. Unfortunately, these instructions go largely ignored by many church leaders. We seem to be more at war than we are at peace. What can we do to regain this theme in our lives? Just when you thought it couldn't get any uglier... The San Francisco Giants played defense like a little league team in the third inning on Sunday against the Reds. Evan Longoria couldn't make a throw across the diamond to lead off the inning. Mike Yastrzemski threw to the wrong base. Austin Slater broke in on a ball that ended up bouncing off the warning track. And they weren't done for the day. Later in the Giants' embarrassing 10-3 loss to the Reds, their second series loss to the league's worst team, there was a ground ball to Brandon Belt. Pitcher Jarlín García was late covering the bag, and Belt threw behind him. The ball went then sat near the Reds dugout for far too much time while no one in a Giants jersey went to pick it up. A high school team would've probably played a better game defensively than the SF Giants did on Sunday. What is causing them to play so poorly defensively? What's staggering is that their defense was much better last year with basically the same players. Brandon Crawford, Darin Ruf, Yastrzemski, Thairo Estrada, and Belt have had the biggest drop-offs. Have the Giants taken their fans for granted? They could've done more in the offseason to bolster their team, but didn't. Is the experience stale at Oracle Park? These questions, written about today in The Athletic by Andrew Baggarly, are addressed on today's show. Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

How Humans Heal
#113 Address The Underlying Causes of Fatigue with Dr. Evan Hirsch!

How Humans Heal

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 21, 2022 54:58

Fatigue is not the same for everyone who experiences it. It can be a complex web of causes which requires a systematic approach in order to avoid aggravations.    In this episode of How Humans Heal, I discuss helping patients recover from fatigue with Dr. Evan Hirsch, [@EvanHirschMD] a functional medical doctor who experienced Chronic Fatigue himself.     He pushed aside the shame and guilt of not feeling well enough to keep up with his life and practice to identify 33 causes of fatigue. His mission became addressing those 33 causes of fatigue for himself and now thousands of other people in his online program.     95% of people he sees have thyroid function that is not optimized. And most of them have adrenal dysfunction. And I agree – I see those same patterns in my practice.     It's important to address all the causes of fatigue, not just one or two, in order to achieve complete resolution. We also want to address the root, of the root, of the root, of the cause of fatigue.      When we dig deeper, we find that stress, toxin exposure, and chronic infections need to be addressed to ultimately resolve fatigue.      -    As Dr. Evan explains, it often comes down to deficiencies and toxicities. Deficiencies such as nutrients, neurotransmitters, mitochondrial function and lack of good food, sleep, and movement. Toxicities such as the 500 chemicals we are exposed to before we walk out of the house. It can also be mold toxicity, tick-born infections, viruses, parasites, yeast, bacterial infections, allergens, adverse life events, negative experiences, and electromagnetic exposures.     The body ends up shutting down in what is called the Cell Danger Response. Which is why it can feel like a pile-up of health issues and multiplying symptoms.     Dr. Evan has figured out a 4-step process to assess and address the underlying causes of fatigue in a way that allows the body to heal most efficiently.     It doesn't start with detoxification. It's important to prepare the body and carefully open the detoxification pathways so that we don't make you feel worse in the process of addressing infections and toxins.     -    At the same time, it's important to know that healing is a process of taking a few steps forward and a couple steps backwards, individualizing along the way, as we learn what your body needs in order to heal.     As practitioners, we are really “course correctors” along the way, to guide you to know how to pivot and work through what comes up as you rebalance and heal.     Regaining your energy is absolutely possible, and it is important to keep in mind that it will be gradual over 12 to 24 months. You have to play the long game.     As someone who has experienced and recovered from fatigue myself, and helped thousands of patients with stress, toxins, and infections, as discussed in this episode, I can tell you that Dr. Evan's approach makes complete sense and is extremely thorough.     -    If you've been struggling with fatigue and/or a complex health issue, I highly recommend reading his book, which he is offering as a free gift, and checking out his online program.    To download Dr. Evan's book for free, Fix Your Fatigue: https://go.fixyourfatigue.org/full-book-pdf-optin     To learn about his The Fix Your Fatigue Program: https://doniwilson.krtra.com/t/Gl53p9ocS0Xc    -    To read more about these concepts, be sure to get a hold of my new book, Master Your Stress, Reset Your Health.   https://www.amazon.com/Master-Your-Stress-Reset-Health/dp/1953295576     -   Connect with Dr. Doni:    Facebook HTTPS://FACEBOOK.COM/DRDONIWILSON   Instagram HTTPS://INSTAGRAM.COM/DRDONIWILSON   YouTube HTTPS://YOUTUBE.COM/USER/DONIWILSONND   Weekly Wellness Wisdom Newsletter: HTTPS://DOCTORDONI.COM/WWW     -   Books and Resources:    Order My New Book: https://DoctorDoni.com/msrh      https://www.amazon.com/Master-Your-Stress-Reset-Health/dp/1953295576   Stress Warrior Book (FREE)  HTTPS://DOCTORDONI.COM/STRESSWARRIOR      Stress Warrior Stress Resiliency Facebook Group (FREE)  HTTPS://FACEBOOK.COM/GROUPS/STRESSWARRIOR     7-day Stress Reset (FREE)  HTTPS://DOCTORDONI.COM/STRESS-RESET     HPV & Cervical Dysplasia Guide (FREE)  HTTPS://DOCTORDONI.COM/HPV-AND-CERVICAL-DYSPLASIA-GUIDE/     -   Personalized Solutions:    If you'd like to meet with Dr. Doni one-on-one for your health, request a Health Breakthrough Session: HTTPS://DOCTORDONI.COM/BREAKTHROUGH     To get an idea of more comprehensive options, read about Dr. Doni's Signature Consultation Programs: HTTPS://DOCTORDONI.COM/SERVICES   Disclosure: Some of the links in this post are product links and affiliate links and if you go through them to make a purchase I will earn a commission at no cost to you. Dr. Martin continues his teaching on anxiety and depression in today's episode. He focuses specifically on the two areas of the brain that get affected by stress. Our bodies are built for stress, but no one was built for chronic levels of stress. We have two organs in our body, the adrenal glands, that are built for stress. They control your fight or flight response, but when they don't shut off, you end up with high levels of cortisol. This is bad. Cortisol over a period of time has a major effect on the body. Join Dr. Martin as he looks at these major effects.

See also his bio page at the Independence Institute.Kopel discusses his recent article, “Guns Kill People, and Tyrants with Gun Monopolies Kill the Most” (which he summarizes at Volokh). Here is the abstract:What are the relative risks of a nation having too many guns compared to the risks of the nation having too few guns? Comparing and contrasting Europe and the United States during the twentieth century, the article finds that the United States might have suffered up to three-quarters of million excess firearms homicide over the course of the century—based on certain assumptions made to maximize the highest possible figure. In contrast, during the twentieth century Europe suffered 87 million excess homicides against civilians by mass-murdering tyrannical governments. The article suggests that Americans should not be complacent that they have some perpetual immunity to being subjected to tyranny. The historical record shows that governments planning mass murder work assiduously to disarm their intended victims. While victim resistance cannot necessarily overthrow a tyrannical regime, resistance does save many lives.Recently Kopel discussed his book on the Colorado Constitution with Jon Caldara.Kopel discusses William English’s paper, “2021 National Firearms Survey.”During the discussion Kopel mentioned Antonio Gramsci. We discussed the Victims of Communism museum. I wrote down my thoughts on nationalism in a 2016 article. I quoted Wikipedia on international homicide statistics. I also quoted the Texas Tribune and a union poll about arming teachers. And I mentioned Robert Zubrin’s article about the Russian authoritarian mystic Aleksandr Dugin. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Tuesday, June 14. It's going to be ridiculously hot Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service it will be sunny and hot in the Cedar Rapids area with a high of 99 degrees. Heat index values with the heavy humidity will rise as high as 106. It will also be breazy, with a south wind of 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Wind gusts could be as high as 30 mph. There will be a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms late Tuesday night, but otherwise it will be mostly clear, with a low of around 73 degrees. We have an article with a list of cool off zones in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids on the front page of theGazette.com. The Cedar Rapids school board Monday postponed a vote on an agreement for school resource officers — also known as police — in schools, with some board members voicing concern that the data presented on the program is incomplete. In a 6-1 vote, with President David Tominsky opposing, the school board agreed to meet in a work session between now and July 11 to further discuss the school resource officer contract before voting on it in their next scheduled meeting at 5:30 p.m., July 11, at the Educational Leadership and Support Center on Edgewood Rd NW. While data shows there are racial disparities in the discipline meted out against students in the district, school board members said a survey given out to gauge student and teacher opinions on the officers painted a flawed picture due to an error in the way the survey was distributed. They also were hesitant to pull the officers without proper consideration given the overall concern for school safety lately in the public. Deficiencies in the University of Iowa Children's Hospital “curtain wall system” at the center of https://www.thegazette.com/higher-education/university-of-iowa-suing-contractors-over-cracked-windows-in-childrens-hospital/ (a new lawsuit )were observed during construction, left uncorrected, and have become so prevalent that most patient windows — along with many others — pose “life safety issues” if left uncorrected. “The number and severity of the (insulated glass unit) defects are progressive, with problems continuing to manifest themselves with the passage of time,” according to the lawsuit Iowa's Board of Regents filed Friday on behalf of UI in Johnson County District Court. They noted replacing hundreds of damaged windows is the only path forward. The lawsuit has been filed against Iowa City-based Knutson Construction Services Midwest, Inc. and Cupples International, Inc., based in St. Louis. Specific proactive and reactive steps the university has taken include installing protective film and clips on hundreds of windows that should hold the glass within if the glass units break. Still the threat of falling glass is severe enough that the children's hospital playground has been closed as a precaution. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, Iowa's Republican U.S. senators, said they are waiting to see the final version of bipartisan legislation containing modest gun control proposals before stating whether they will support it. The legislation was the result of two weeks of negotiations between a bipartisan group of U.S. senators in response to recent mass shootings in the United States. But Grassley, who is up for re-election this fall, said he was “encouraged” to see the bipartisan group produce a proposal. https://www.thegazette.com/federal-government/u-s-senate-bargainers-announce-outline-of-gun-violence-agreement/ (The current proposal) would make juvenile records available during background checks whenever someone under the age of 21 buys a gun; ban convicted domestic abusers from being able to buy a gun; and send federal funding to states enacting so-called red flag laws, which attempt to temporarily take guns away from individuals who could be considered potentially violent.

Deficiencies in Inpatient Mental Health Care Coordination and Processes Prior to a Patient's Death by Suicide at the Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Columbia, Missouri The VA OIG conducted a healthcare inspection to determine the validity of an allegation regarding a patient's mental health care at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital (facility) in Columbia, Missouri, prior to death by suicide. The OIG reviewed the patient's mental health care coordination, discharge planning, suicide risk screening and evaluation, administrative actions, and Mental Health Treatment Coordinator (MHTC) assignment. The OIG substantiated that the patient died by suicide within three days of discharge from the facility's Inpatient Mental Health Unit. The OIG also substantiated that an inpatient psychiatry resident initiated antidepressant medication, and a registered nurse provided discharge instructions that included suicide prevention materials, consistent with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) guidance. Inpatient staff did not include Columbia Vet Center staff in discharge planning and failed to complete the VHA-required comprehensive suicide risk evaluation prior to the patient's discharge, which may have contributed to missed information to adequately establish acute and chronic suicide risk factors and a risk mitigation plan. Facility leaders did not establish an MHTC policy and staff did not assign the patient's MHTC while awaiting transfer to another level of care. Staff failed to comprehensively report a positive suicide risk screening result in an issue brief related to the patient's death, and facility leaders, in part based on the issue brief, did not make an institutional disclosure to the patient's next of kin. Veterans Integrated Service Network and National Center for Patient Safety leaders did not have knowledge of a memorandum of understanding that required Vet Center representation for shared patients during VHA root cause analyses. The OIG made one recommendation to the Under Secretary for Health and six recommendations to the Facility Director.

Welcome to Summarily: A Podcast for Busy Lawyers. This is a follow-on episode to the emergency pod about the leak of the draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.  On this episode, Robert is joined by Professor Caroline Mala Corbin of the University of Miami School of Law to discuss the substance of the opinion. She explains her views on the opinion's flawed substantive due process analysis, why she believes the majority's decision is driven in part by “intense hostility towards abortion,” and how religion plays a role in the outcome. Professor Corbin recently authored a critique of the draft majority opinion on Think: 8 Legal Reasons to Dislike Justice Alito's Draft Opinion on Abortion. Professor Corbin is Dean's Distinguished Scholar at UM Law, where she teaches Constitutional Law, several courses on the First Amendment (including Feminism and the First Amendment), and Advanced Topics in Reproductive Rights. Her scholarship focuses on the First Amendment's speech and religion clauses, particularly their intersection with equality issues. Professor Corbin holds a B.A. from Harvard University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School.  -------Desperately Seeking Certainty, by Dan Farber and Suzanna Sherry, “attacks the current legal vogue for grand unified theories of constitutional interpretation. On both the Right and the Left, prominent legal scholars are attempting to build all of constitutional law from a single foundational idea. Farber and Sherry find that in the end no single, all-encompassing theory can successfully guide judges or provide definitive or even sensible answers to every constitutional question.”Questions/Comments/Suggestions? My podcast this week is a bit unique in that we will be discussing how to diagnose deficiencies in cannabis and how to use a dichotomous key. We have a new document available on our website that has the dichotomous key we reference in the podcast as well as images showing the deficiencies related to each mineral we discuss. So if you wanted to follow along to the podcast with visuals you can check it out on our website or at anytime as a free guide.   My guest this week is Brandon Hudson. Brandon is a second generation cannabis cultivator with over 35 years of direct experience with this amazing plant. Growing up in East Tennessee, with The Great Smoky Mountains for a backyard, Brandon can't remember a time that he didn't love the outdoors. His parents grew row crops and were advocates of the 1970s Back To The Land movement. Building on fundamentals learned as a child Brandon has applied a controlled approach to cannabis cultivation starting his first plants his freshman year of college in 1986. He currently works for KIS Organics providing growers with everything from customer support to assistance with nutrients and soil tests. A well rounded and passionate organic grower, Brandon's real passion is in soil chemistry. Most recently, Brandon was the Director of Cultivation and one of four founding members of a minority-owned hemp flower farm in South Carolina.  He provided SOPs and oversight for all aspects of cultivation from propagation to harvest and cure, including daily operation of a large nursery facility. In this role Brandon also performed several federally funded hemp trials for HBCUs as well as research projects for nutrient producers. He also worked with a group to develop sterile gels for propagation. Anyone who has met Brandon knows he is rarely as happy as when he is talking plants with other passionate growers. He is a proud dad and husband who spends his free time outdoors with his veggie gardens and chickens. Now on to the show! https://www.kisorganics.com/blogs/news/episode-95-diagnosing-deficiencies-in-cannabis-with-brandon-hudson

It was a bizarre late afternoon at Villa Park, when Aston Villa played some of their best football under Steven Gerrard, peppering an inspired Hugo Lloris, only to end up losing the match 4-0. Son Heung-min's hat-trick did most of the damage, as Villa's team repeated the same short-comings that have been their downfall in recent months. Judging by his interviews and press conferences, Steven Gerrard clearly knows what the issues are, but there are few signs of him correcting them on the pitch. This is a shorter match reaction episode to the game before the main show in a couple of days time.UTVPS - subscribe to www.astonvilla.wtfGET THE EXCLUSIVE MOMS PATRON PODCAST CHANNEL and JOIN MATCH CLUBIf you want extra podcast shows during the month and to join Match Club, please do support the show by becoming a MOMS Patron. For more details and to become a Patron, click here: Become a MOMS PatronFollow the show on Twitter at @myoldmansaid and join the show's listener facebook group The Mad Few.T-Shirt, Mugs & Merch Listeners can now buy a MOMS Podcast T-shirt or mug to show their support of the show and look cool, check out the MOMS SHOP to buy.Credits:David Michael - @oldmansaid Chris Budd - @BUDD_musicPhillip Shaw - @prsgameMy Old Man Said - https://www.myoldmansaid.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Sugar cravings are REAL during prep! Am I right?!? Be sure to tune in as @glamgirlbikini coaches @chrisnicole_ifbbpro and @amyehinger talk all things sugar sabotage and how to prevent it. Here's a 4 step plan to help you get back on track and stay on track: Step No. 1: Prevent cravings. Sugar intake is a lot easier to moderate when you don't have the urge to consume it in the first place. When we focus on what to do, it tends to nudge out the things we're trying to limit without leaving us feeling deprived. Here's how: Hydrate with water. It's easy to mistake thirst for a sugar craving.  Balance your blood sugar Plan your meals around protein from quality meat, fish, or eggs, fibrous vegetables, and fat for flavor.  Prioritize sleep. Stop the late-night TV and social media scrolling and simply go to bed. Replete nutrients. Deficiencies in certain vitamins and minerals can cause cravings.  Step No. 2: Evaluate your current intake, then stop it or swap it. To do a reset successfully, having a structured and straightforward plan can be incredibly helpful. Aim to plan ahead to remove top sugar culprits from your kitchen and to have specific alternatives and added-sugar-free recipes on-hand. Step No. 3: If it's a sugar source you aren't ready to eliminate, reduce the serving size or frequency. If you're not ready to fully give up added sugar or do a reset, taking steps to reduce the amount you consume overall is still a solid step in the right direction. Step No. 4: Drop the guilt and mindfully choose your indulgences. Most of our sugar intake is mindless. But if there's a certain item that has added sugar and has genuine meaning or nostalgia to you, plan for it.
