In this episode, Cindy Esliger looks at a better way we can choose to respond when things go wrong. We tend to spin out in overthinking or tighten our grip on control when setbacks happen at work, but neither of those responses leads to meaningful progress. Cindy suggests focusing on what's actually within our control by reclaiming our power. It's not about pretending everything is fine; it's about learning to move forward with clarity by reframing setbacks as opportunities for growth. How we respond to setbacks can reinforce our frustration and self-doubt if we allow ourselves to overthink on overdrive or slip into control freak mode. But when things start falling apart, we need to ask what is actually within our control. Reframing our thinking involves understanding positional power and personal power. Cindy explains that positional power is the power that our workplace controls. It can evaporate. Personal power, on the other hand, comes from within and doesn't require anyone else's permission. Personal power allows us to respond thoughtfully instead of with a knee-jerk reaction. Cindy offers insight into the psychology of control, specifically the locus of control, which is the belief system that shapes whether we think life happens to us or because of us. High internal locus of control believe our actions shape outcomes, whereas high external locus of control believes in forces like luck or fate. Both extreme ends of the spectrum can be harmful. To find balance, Cindy offers three questions to ask ourselves the next time something goes wrong: 1. Do we blame ourselves or others first? 2. Do we believe success is based on effort, relationships, or luck? And 3. When someone else is struggling, do we think that could be us or that it would never happen to us? Cindy guides us through what the answers to those questions mean and how to reframe our thinking about setbacks. Merry Christmas! In this 10th and probably last solo episode of 2024, I start by talking about business & politics, since the two intersect in ways we often overlook.I also discuss losing 7 years' worth of readers & listeners during my eight-month hiatus. There were lessons learned from that experience. The value of prayer & meditation in managing your thoughts and emotions is understated. I share how they've helped me to navigate a rollercoaster year. And to wrap things up, I answer some of the "fun" questions I've asked my past guests—turning the tables on myself for a change.
Jesus returns to his hometown of Nazareth twice, and in both instances, His teaching is rejected. This reality demonstrates that despite Jesus' powerful proclamation of the gospel of the kingdom, the minds and hearts of unbelievers will remain closed unless the Holy Spirit regenerates them. Observing Jesus' persistence in preaching the gospel helps us learn how to speak the gospel truth to our friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers and persist if there is a face of rejection.Application QuestionsWill you imitate Jesus' example and not give up the proclamation of the good news when our family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and unbelieving church attendees do not respond? Will you be faithful to proclaim the gospel as proclaimed in Scripture? Will you be thankful that God has graciously chosen to remove the scales of unbelief from our minds and hearts? Will you have compassion for the unbelievers around us who are lost in unbelief? ★ Support this podcast ★

It's easy to expect the holidays will make us feel loved and accepted but often they can be reminders that we feel rejected by those we love the most. And this can make Thanksgiving and Christmas hurt our hearts. In today's episode, I talk about how to stop the pattern of seeking approval from the loved ones that continue to leave you feeling discarded by discussing: 1. Signs that we need to end seeking approval 2. Scripture that resets our mental perspective 3. Ways to focus on empathy for healing Mind Renewal Tip: If we chase after others' approval, we often feel rejected. But if we chase after God, we quickly find acceptance. Scripture Renewal Tip: "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. host: Alyson Stanfield In order for the art ecosystem to work, many rejections must be handed out. That means to have a successful art business and career, you must learn to deal with rejection. More to the point, in order to be successful in life, you have to learn to deal with rejection, regardless of your vocation. In this episode of The Art Biz, host Alyson Stanfield talks with Megan Wimberley, who wants to help you move past rejection. As both an artist and a founder of the Cowgirl Artists of America organization, she has experienced both sides of the process. The good news about rejection is that you are not alone. Every artist who wants to attain a higher level of accomplishment must deal with rejection. The bad news is … well … You've been rejected. And that feels awful. But you can't let it stop you. Megan outlines a framework for dealing with rejection, including the importance of emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and professionalism—all in the service of elevating and protecting your reputation.
