This episode will discuss life lessons in relationships that we all wish we knew much sooner! We also take the time to speak to the author, Natasha Sattler. She is the author of the book "Shit Adults Never Taught Us". A one-stop shop for all things adulting! The one line description of her book is a SNAPSHOT REVIEW OF THE THINGS YOU DIDN'T LEARN IN SCHOOL – IN QUICK, HILARIOUS CHAPTERS. "Wouldn't it be awesome if life had a manual? Not for your daily how-tos (like cooking or ironing) but for when the real shit pops up. The money shit we have no idea how to navigate, like negotiating a raise or buying a car. The relationship shit that slaps us in the face as we turn into full-fledged adults, like surviving a gut-wrenching breakup and having the courage to fall in love. The mind fucks that sneak into our brains after puberty like a ninja and set up camps of anxiety, loneliness, and regret. The life shit that somehow was completely ignored throughout more than a decade of schooling, like protecting your privacy online, traveling on any budget, and finding motivation when it seems impossible." (amazon.com) The book can be found on most book-selling platforms to include Amazon, at this link! The podcast will take a look at how our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us impact how we relate to one another. With a male and female perspective from guests in different fields and life experiences, we aim to use real-world examples of how the looking glass self-theory has an impact on all relationships. We will address societal, cultural, and mental health concepts in everyday terms as we work towards personal growth that allows us to build authentic relationships and attract connections meant for us. While there may have been mental health concepts discussed, this podcast is not meant to be a substitute for diagnosis or mental health care. Jeff and I are parents of two adult sons, Liam 22 and Ethan 19, they both live on their own, going to college, in a different city. They moved out this past fall when we had to pivot and move back to NS, it all happened kinda fast. We weren't sure that we had taught them everything they needed but we also knew that we were a text or call away. They've had a lot of questions from headlights burning out on the car to dealing with landlords. Questions we could never have anticipated. If only there was some kind of manual we could give them, to learn things before they need to know them. Problem solved! When the pandemic hit the U.S., Natasha suddenly had a lot of free time on her hands. In her many Happy Hour Zoom calls with friends, Natasha realized that the average 20-something year old was thrust into adulthood without a manual. Taxes, 401K's, and signing up for health insurances were all something that young adults had to learn the hard way. So, she sat down and wrote Shit Adults Never Taught Us, a book that outlines all the absolute crucial life skills we should know, but were never taught in school. Our guest today was more productive during COVID than most. She doubled down on connections with her friends and wrote a book on the s*** that adults never taught us growing up... Titled, "S*** Adults Never Taught Us". We've got Natasha Sattler on the show!We go deep on the concept of connection. How it is a human need and we need to destigmatize feeling lonely (because it's normal). And how it is possible to be in a room full of people and still feel alone.Seeing anxiety as a "signal light" of something we need to address in our life. And instead of addressing the surface symptom, going DEEP.Why Natasha believes we should destigmatize the concept of addiction (because we've all got em'). And the power of bringing awareness to these things that we do habitually to emotionally regulate. How many of us never learned to "protect our peace" growing up. Why we don't really "fall" in love but actually "choose" love daily. And how to tell the difference between "love" and "infatuation".By the way, I reference the book Together by Vivek H. Murthy in the pod. Here is a link to the book! To connect with Natasha:Buy her book, S*** Adults Never Taught Us - https://shitadultsnevertaughtus.com/ Instagram - @shitadultsnevertaughtus
