The Successful Millennials Podcast is BACK for Season 2!!!!We start with Chandler Bolt as our guest, who will bring us tips on how to focus in on your discipline to conquer insurmountable tasks. At the top of the list of things that seem insurmountable to the creative mind tends to be writing a book. Many view it as a 3-5 year commitment and they'll "get to it" when the time is right or they are less busy. But as we all know, life only gets busier the older we get and the more responsibilities we have. So how can we actually write a book?Chandler's company, the Self-Publishing School, has helped new authors publish 6,000 books over the last 7 years, and has written frameworks to help simplify the process so you actually get it done. The main core of writing a book can be broken down into the MORE method:Mind Map - Taking15 min brain dump of all stories, ideas, FAQs you get all the time when prospecting/converting clientsOutline -  Group common themes and then that will eventually drill down into chaptersRough Draft - Create using the 30 Day Rough Draft Challenge. One chapter at a time, just write 1000 words a day. Split it up to avoid writer's block, in two separate 30 minute sessions daily.Editing - Going over and fine tuning grammar, tone, flow, etc.We also talk about how to not get distracted by the shiny object syndrome. #46: Overcoming Anxiety with Corbin Elliott

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 2, 2022 44:25

This episode covers the Mental Health category.Join Sammy Warrayat and Corbin Elliott as they discuss how to deal with anxiety. Corbin is a psychological strategist and founder of Affect Media, focusing on creating music to make one feel better. In this episode, he narrates his story when he was at his lowest point, and he coped with it.Breaking PointCorbin developed anxiety because he pursued the wrong degree in college. Having ignored that feeling resulted in his anxiety manifesting on his body. He had muscle spasms so bad that it got to the point he was stuck in bed for a week. While that experience was already bad for him, it had a silver lining: it sparked his interest in psychology. After that, he realized how important it was in the context of living an enjoyable life. With the internet's power to connect to the masses, Corbin had an idea to distribute what he knew in order to help others going through anxiety as well. To ensure he influences people in a positive way, Corbin follows the rule of applying it to himself first. In doing so, he understands how one thing works, and it does not affect other people if things do not go as planned. The experience made Corbin stronger, and with that, he helped others overcome anxiety. Anxiety DescribedAnxiety, the way Corbin looks at it, is having a circle of danger and a circle of fear. They are not always the same thing. Now, the thing is, anxiety is sometimes there for a reason; if one has anxiety about jumping off a cliff, that is a good thing. In this case, the danger and fear overlap because jumping off a cliff will hurt. Yet, a lot of times, the body is designed to survive but not to be happy. That is the problem with anxiety – the thing that makes a person happy is perceived as dangerous. Corbin explains that it is powerful to leverage perspective because it helps understand where the fear and danger zone do not line up. With that, capitalize on that opportunity because that will make one happy. About Corbin Elliott:Corbin Elliott is a psychological strategist. In other words, he leverages analytical, cause-and-effect problem solving to facilitate a higher degree of emotional well-being and life satisfaction. His tactics are systems-based and rooted in self-observed and external data-driven applications.Through his company, “Peace and Purpose,” Corbin writes books and produces a podcast to show his audience that they don't need to settle for a life that is less than the one they are capable of living.Outline of the Episode:[02:45] Who Corbin is and what he does[05:06] How to use psychology to influence people positively[09:20] Anxiety as a metric for change[13:49] A description of anxiety and how is it different from burnout[16:57] How to combat anxiety[18:55] Sponsor advertisements[21:21] Journaling helps in understanding anxiety[24:15] Neuroscience versus neurolinguistic programming (NLP)[29:06] Shift from activation energy to sustainable energy[31:49] Enriching phase[35:13] What neural pathways are and how they interact with brain functions[38:42] Things that Corbin draws inspiration from[40:49] Corbin's quick tipConnect with Corbin:WebsiteLinkedIn Peace and Purpose PodcastI'm curious to hear your thoughts and how you will implement the tips provided in the episode! #45: Opening Up as a Man in Today's World with Ted Phateon

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 26, 2022 45:33

This episode covers the Mental Health category.Join Sammy Warrayat and Ted Phaeton as they talk about his journey with entrepreneurship, mental health, and personal growth. Ted is a meteorologist and anchor by profession. In this episode, he expounds on the story that made him the man he is today.Going LiveBeing an anchor on live television bears responsibility because things that are said cannot be taken back. It is far different from a pre-recorded podcast, as told by Ted, because edits can be made before releasing an episode. Learning from his mentors in the business, Ted had two things as advice: know the subject matter and trust thyself. Knowing gives confidence because knowledge is power. Ted compares going live as addressing one's insecurities, as opposed to recording that is sitting with insecurities longer. When on-air, one has no choice; there is no turning back. Despite that, Ted did what he could to flourish in his career. In the end, he is far more comfortable and finds it easier doing things live than recording them. Man UpNo man is a template. Everyone has their differences, but a pattern Ted saw was that men loved helping each other. The thing that prevents men from doing so is the expectation of how men should act as put up by society. From experience, and in an effort to change the narrative of how men should be, Ted's advice is to be the vulnerable one. He likens it to high school football: everyone knows who the players are, but girls dig the guys with the most scruffed-up jersey. He explains that showing those dented armors and still standing up means surviving to tell the story. That is the same with vulnerabilities because it shows that one has stood their ground besides trials. About Ted Phaeton:Ted Phaeton has a Degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with a professional certificate in Geographic Information Systems. He is experienced in event planning and promotion, supervised and trained staff, delivered customer service for an amusement and recreation facility for four consecutive seasons. In addition, Ted has held the position of treasurer for the UAlbany Volleyball team, actively involved in community service and awareness campaigns as a member of the national fraternity of Alpha Chi Rho at the University at Albany. Outline of the Episode:[02:45] A background about Ted[04:57] Differences of being a live anchor from a pre-recorded podcast[07:57] Lessons learned from hosting No Rain, No Rainbows[13:07] What started Ted's ambition for The Modern Man[18:52] Sponsor advertisements[21:18] Why opening up the conversation about male social norms is important[25:03] Be vulnerable but without oversharing[30:45] Issues that men experience, especially with mental health[37:15] Ted's tip: hydrateConnect with Ted!WebsiteNo Rain No Rainbows PodcastInstagramI'm curious to hear your thoughts and how you will implement the tips provided in the episode! Join Sammy Warrayat and Sae'Von Springer as they discuss cryptocurrency, blockchain, and the future of decentralized finance. Sae'Von is the founder of Native Assets, a blockchain firm focused on providing university-level education.Security FeaturesBlockchain boasts its immutability and verifiability. To put it in simple terms, Sae'Von compares it to a computer that only those with access can edit files. It is the same with blockchain technology. It cannot be edited without permission, and if somebody does have permission, everyone in the company can see it. For cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, all transactions taking place can be verified in real-time, depending on the blockchain's consensus mechanism. Blockchain technology in itself is secure, but there are a few more levels of measure for added security. Because there have been instances when Bitcoin and Ethereum were hacked, Sae'Von says it was the way the smart contract was designed. It is the protocol that had holes in its code, leaving it vulnerable to exploitation. It is not Bitcoin or Ethereum that is exploited per se, but the smart contract with an error in the code.Scalability ProblemsIssues regarding scalability in cryptocurrency, especially Ethereum, are due to the number of people using it, according to Sae'Von. In his opinion, it strikes the best balance at this point to be decentralized and have sufficient throughput. He compared Ethereum to Solana, that while the latter is much faster and cheaper to use, it is very centralized than the former. As much as there are issues with Ethereum, Sae'Von is confident that the blockchain is working on solutions with favorable outcomes. With other larger companies choosing it over other blockchains, everyone is still in a good position from a fundamental technology standpoint.About Sae'Von Springer:Sae'Von Springer founded Native Assets to empower people with the knowledge and tools required to achieve “blockchain literacy.” As a life-long tech enthusiast and student of history, he grasped the complexities of blockchain and cryptocurrency, foreseeing its broader societal implications. Being an investor and trader from legacy markets, he understood and appreciated the unique financial products and services powered by smart contracts and decentralized protocols.Outline of the Episode:[02:45] A little bit about Sae'Von[05:42] What a blockchain-powered platform is[08:47] Extra levels of security despite blockchain already secured[12:34] Scalability problems for networks like Ethereum and best resolutions[24:45] Cold storage wallet versus regular wallet[30:40] Is it possible to interact with a DEX environment without a cold storage wallet?[32:00] Why a volatile investment like cryptocurrency would be a good passive income source[38:22] What to look out for in the next DeFi token[41:42] Sae'Von's course on cryptocurrency[44:53] Things related to blockchain that Sae'Von learned and drew inspiration fromConnect with Sae'Von:Website: Instagram:LinkedIn: Podcast: Connect with Sammy!Website for FREE 30 minute consultation: https://financezilla.net/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/financezilla/The Coldest Water!  - 10% off using code FINANCEZILLAHabits365 apparel - 15% off using code FINANCEZILLA

Join Sammy Warrayat and Kyle Gillette as they discuss his framework for leadership. Kyle is an ICF-certified coach, behavioral analyst, and owner of Gillette Solutions, a coaching and consulting organization. In this episode, he shares how he coaches people for personal and professional development.Leadership FrameworkKyle wanted to make an impact the same way his mentor did. The business leader he worked for had a men's mentoring program in India to help 18 to 25-year-old men get back on track. Kyle's mentor had that program bankrolled, retired at 58, and had run successful businesses. So, having worked under that for eight years, Kyle started his business and developed a leadership framework of his own – the SAGE Leadership Framework. Kyle loved acronyms because it is easy to memorize. SAGE stands for self-awareness, accountability, growth, and empowerment. Kyle uses this framework to help his clients build powerful self-awareness in their life and business, create extreme accountability to achieve big goals, dreams, and results with a growth mindset that fosters empowerment for others so they can have the most influence possible.Building ClarityClarity is challenging to get, and Kyle's solution is to take feedback from other people. Questions are the best feedback because it makes someone think differently and engage the subconscious much more powerful than being told what to do or what they see. So Kyle says to ask great questions, and by that, he means to skip asking “why” questions. Instead, the “what” and “how” questions are those that must be focused on. Another way to get clarity is through writing. Journaling puts one's thoughts on paper. By doing so, those thoughts can be seen from a third-party perspective. Thus it can be a great way to measure growth. About Kyle Gillette:Kyle Gillette has helped small business owners and leaders around the world to take their businesses from good to great. He is an ICF-certified coach, behavioral analyst, and creator of the SAGE Mindset Leadership framework that helps people in all aspects of life, including relationships with others as well as themselves. As a mindset coach who specializes in helping clients understand how their thoughts affect their lives and business, Kyle understands what it takes for someone's mindset to change. He's the host of the SAGE Mindset podcast, developer of the SAGE Leadership Framework, the SAGE Journal, and owner of Gillette Solutions - a coaching and consulting organization.Outline of the Episode:[02:48] Kyle's background and what the SAGE Framework is[07:16] The formulation of the SAGE Framework[09:59] How to slow things with self-awareness[16:24] Sponsor advertisements[18:47] Kyle's stance on the growth mindset[22:20] Leadership in the corporate world and building clarity[26:14] Where to find mentors without feeling like it is a trade-off[30:40] How to tell somebody to be confident and shoot their shot[32:53] Levels of accountability and which is the most effective[39:42] A tip from Kyle about life transitionConnect with Kyle:Website: https://gillettesolutions.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kyle-gillette/Connect with Sammy!Website: https://financezilla.net/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/financezilla/The Coldest Water!  - 10% off using code FINANCEZILLAHabits365 apparel - 15% off using code FINANCEZILLA

Join Sammy Warrayat and Jerry Fu as they discuss how to come up with conflict resolutions. Jerry is a leadership coach working with Asian-American professionals. In this episode, he shares tips on sorting things out when conflicts arise.Set BoundariesThere is such a thing as unhealthy conflict, according to Jerry. It is when expectations are not met that consequences must be enforced. For example, a person whose tardiness is habitual must be given sanctions to break the habit. Jerry says that when no consequence is given, that person will lose respect for the leader. On the other hand, there is a healthy conflict that when something comes up, the people involved fix it quickly, which makes it feel like the conflict was never there in the first place. Jerry emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries, especially with conflicts, because it will be the defining point of the relationship. Nice people are often taken advantage of for not giving a consequence; that is why ironing things out is a must. It sets the boundary that the habit should be stopped. Conflict is always involved in a healthy relationship, but the difference is that it can be dealt with in a way that allows people to be honest without being disrespectful.Resolving ConflictConflicts are not the same and differ depending on circumstances. Despite this, Jerry has developed a general approach to dealing with any conflict regardless of the situation, summarized into four Cs: shut the comfort, get curious, collaborate, and find closure. About Jerry Fu:Jerry Fu is a leadership coach. He works with Asian-American professionals on their careers and life journeys. He focuses on resolving clients' conflicts at work, in culture, and within themselves. His services include one-on-one coaching, group workshops, and keynote presentations.Jerry completed the CoachRice Leadership Certificate Program in the spring of 2020. Join Sammy Warrayat and Sol Girouard as they discuss blockchain and data modeling. Sol is a mathematical economist, data scientist, quant, and the CEO and founder of Data Innovations Lab. In this episode, she sheds light on what blockchain really is and everything they do related to machine learning. What Really Is Blockchain?Almost everyone equates blockchain to cryptocurrency, but Sol says otherwise. Blockchain is the base for everything known as distributed ledger technology (DLT) or decentralized ledger. Cryptocurrency is just one of the functions that can be given to a blockchain. Sol says that in a company, it is very smart to have a blockchain to work on a clear function or to add multiple functions per ledger because, in that way, it is clean. A lot of good usable data can also be taken from it without doing extra data processing. There are private and public chains, and whatever happens on one side must also happen to the other side, just like an accounting ledger. It also has a consensus that nodes are peers or blocks, so they have to say and approve the identity of whoever does the transaction, which makes excellent use of blockchain for identity protection. The level of security differs between private and public chains, but both have benefits and uses depending on the functions. Domain KnowledgeBlockchain is only one component, but not all data go into the chain; there have to be other data sources. A data scientist cannot work on every data set because they are not knowledgeable about it, so Sol highlights that domain knowledge is necessary. Data science is a field of intersection and being proficient in coding algorithms, deep learning, and knowing statistics is not enough. A data scientist should also have expertise aside from data science itself as it solves clear points. All of this comes to play. If the data scientist does not know where the questions are assessed from, they cannot perform the models properly nor acquire the skills needed to make them intersect. Having no knowledge from a field the data is extracted from results in wrong insights. Thus, an area of concentration is required even if one can handle large data very well. About Sol Girouard:Sol graduated top of her class from Harvard University and holds Academic Teaching Fellow positions for Data Science courses at Harvard's Engineering School—SEAS, Institute of Applied Computer Science, and Harvard Extension School. She has judged the University of Chicago Financial Mathematics Master Program Graduating Competition.Sol is the CEO and founder of Data Innovation Labs, a full-service data science and decision intelligence consulting group deploying 4IR technologies and implementing digital transformation across business verticals. Ever feel like you're being dragged into social settings because of your friends? This is the social equivalent to buyer's remorse. I think learning how to set boundaries in a respectful way will help our generation with removing the ghosting, social remorse, and help you live the life you truly want to.This can extend to that feeling that you can't be open and up front with your parents or siblings because of them judging you. This causes you to hide your true personality to your own flesh and blood, which is not a great way to build quality relationships that last with those who are supposed to be closest to you. Boundary setting can help here as well.We go over how to set boundaries and how to say No when needed so that you can avoid getting taken advantage of and build more quality relationships. Most of of us cringe when we hear the word "network" and "content creation", but it's a huge part of the Relationship category. If you're not surrounding yourself with people that encourage you to get better, while you also help them improve, then it's tough to expect yourself to grow! That's why I am happy to bring to you an interview I had with Jessica Wise, who co-founded Audacity Magazine and Events alongside Mansi Tanna with the intent to build a platform to highlight millennial owned businesses and work together. We go in detail on why Audacity Magazine and Events was created, and how they were able to build an open environment to encourage growth, rather than one that is toxic and comparative such as the elevator pitch contest where everyone can pitch their business ideas and have judges/scorecards to support and give pointers of how to make it even more . Even throughout COVID, Audactiy's ability to shift seamlessly to remote hangouts and still be engaging is a testament to their focus to making the networking and relationship building fun! We also get into what defines "content", in a day and age where everyone seems to be doing trendy or catchy things, how do you stick out? We talk about SEO algorithms in different platforms as well, for those who are trying to build a brand. We also talk about how content can be a good thing, as it takes forms in writing, music, and even acting, which Jessica does as well. It's a great testament to the fact that if you know your purpose/passion, you can develop seemingly different career paths that don't seem related to the outside eye. The Big 3 is Discipline, Personal Accountability, and Motivation.Discipline is defined as the willpower to stick to your plan, to carry out your decisions and wishes, and having the unwavering strength to have self-restraint..Accountability is defined as the willingness to accept responsibility for the outcomes of your actions, positive and negative.Motivation is defined as general desire (can be a burning fire of desire as well). In this episode, I break down why it's important to have all 3 of these to make lasting change, tips of how to get better at it, and recommendations of where to learn/draw inspiration from to keep getting better.Remember, if you just get 1% every month, that will compound greatly and before you know it, you'll be on the path to success in all the 5 categories! Also feel free to reach out on Instagram @financezilla or email me at financezilla@gmail.com with your feedback and other topics you'd like to hear about! Recommendations:First Things First by Stephen Covey Sammy's favorite book of all timeEat That Frog by Brian Tracy - Great book on prioritizationGrit by Angela Duckworth - Angela never considered herself the smartest, but used immense discipline and grit to achieve a PhD from Harvard, winning the MacArthur Genius Grant, and more amazing accomplishments! The QBQ by John Miller - Great book on personal accountability and introspectionJim Rohn Seminar - Very good source of inspiration from one of his old seminars, but be warned it is 4 hoursLes Brown 1998 GA Dome motivational speech - One of the most inspiring 40 minute videos I've ever watched and go back from time to time when I need inspiration and fuel to the fire.

We close out Mental Health Awareness in the month of MayIn this episode, I'm excited to bring a conversation with one of the most passionate, energetic, and vibrant guys I know, Kamyar Karimian, AKA Young Komet. I wanted to bring Kamyar on because I feel that his experience shows that it's ok to have 2 completely different passions, you don't have to pigeonholed into just one area. From a very young age, Kamyar was fascinated by airplanes, and to this day his YouTube channel is consistent with travel vlogs detailing not just the trips he goes on, but the plane, the seats, and a review of the aircraft itself. But that's not the only passion he has. Later in his formative years, he discovered music and creative beats, and then started to make some rap music under the name Young Komet. He explains his story of how he found both passions, how to enlarge your comfort zone to extend hobbies into passions, which falls under the Career/Purpose Category.Unfortunately, life isn't a straight line. Kamyar explains some of his mental issues he had to work through and how he overcame them, and how even if you do know your passions, life will still make you earn it. He talks about how passions gives him the energy and perseverance to continue to push through, which to me is precisely why the Career/Purpose and Mental Health categories are imperative to overall success. Please leave a like and subscribe and continue to comment your thoughts.  Also feel free to reach out on Instagram @financezilla or email me at financezilla@gmail.comHow to reach Kamyar if you want to learn more about his journey and listen to his upcoming projects:@youngkomet on Instagram Young Komet on YouTubeKamyar's recommendations:Gary Vee YT Channel - Kamyar's greatest source of inspiration, Gary is an entrepreneur and public speaker/motivator that spreads positive energy.
