Part 1 of this discussion examines psychology, philosophy, religion, spiritually, science, and medicine, a panel of five (5) people opens with the question, 'where am I?' and 'what is going on [in the world]?' and refers to James Hillman, ideas and action as an artificial distinction, are they the same thing? How are they interlinked? The poet Major Ragain is quoted, 'contemplation alters the course of rivers.' From the Bhagavad Gita: Freedom from action is not accomplished by abstaining from action, so how is it accomplished? Relinquishing the fruit of action Ghandi's, 'through service, I find myself.' The Panel begins to examine the Taoist concept of non-action, Wu Wei. How do we cultivate Wu Wei? The Panel explores Univerisal Truths. Natural action arises, we have a deep intrinsic calling, how do we find and express it? What is our reason for being here? To receive the Divine Will is a part of choiceless action. A few bad nights during a stressful period triggered Tim's struggle with insomnia. The more he tried to fix his sleep, the more difficult it became, the more power and influence it had over his life, and the more anxiety he experienced. Tim's transformation began when he realized that trying to control sleep was keeping him stuck and that his response to the fear of not sleeping was a bigger problem than being awake at night. As Tim relinquished control over sleep and was less resistant to experiencing insomnia and all the thoughts and feelings that come with it, insomnia began to lose the stranglehold it once had over his life — and sleep started to show up all by itself. In our latest "Ponder On This" episode, we continue our exploration of relinquishing, diving deeper into what it means to truly "let go" on the spiritual path. This practice creates space for authentic self-emergence, much like a snake shedding its old skin to make way for the new one already formed beneath. Relinquishing isn't about denial or deprivation but rather about releasing what no longer serves our growth. The episode examines the three rules for disciples that the Tibetan offers, with special attention to the pride of mind – that tendency to believe our way is right and others are wrong. This pride of mind represents the most challenging aspect to surrender in our spiritual growth, as mental attachments often prove harder to release than physical possessions or emotional patterns. The conversation explores how relinquishing applies to group work and spiritual communities. When we stand "shoulder to shoulder in the one work," differences naturally fade in importance. This shift from personality-based interaction to soul-based connection allows us to move beyond criticism and the need to control others, creating more authentic collaboration. The discussion touches on finding balance between firm principles and flexible responses – how to maintain core values while adapting to life's fluid nature. The episode concludes with reflections on the spiritual path not as rigid adherence to texts or teachings, but as living the wisdom they contain. There's a poignant observation that "you could go back, but you don't belong there anymore" – highlighting how spiritual evolution naturally leads us to release what once seemed essential. We invite you to join us in exploring how to "let go and let love" in your own spiritual practice. This week's show is with Arthur Haines. Arthur is a Maine hunting, fishing, and recreation guide, forager, ancestral skills mentor, author, public speaker, and botanical researcher. He grew up in the western mountains of Maine, a rural area that was home to swift streams known for their trout fishing. He spent most of his childhood in the Sandy River Valley hiking, tracking, and foraging. Arthur now runs the Delta Institute of Natural History in Canton, Maine, where he teaches human ecology, focusing on the values of foraging, wildcrafting medicine, and primitive living skills. He continues to spend a great deal of his free time practicing his skills as a modern hunter-gatherer. In 2017, he authored “A New Path”, a comprehensive work on nature connection and rewilding, detailing how to incorporate ancestral practices into modern living. As a research botanist for the Native Plant Trust, he completed an inclusive flora of the New England region titled “Flora Novae Angliae” and has authored over twenty publications in peer-reviewed journals and books, including naming species of plants new to science. His series of YouTube videos has inspired thousands of people interested in foraging wild edible and medicinal plants. In this show, Lian and Arthur explore the foundational principles of masculinity - strength, bravery, mastery, and honour - not as outdated relics, but as essential qualities for men navigating modern life. Arthur brings a rare, embodied perspective to this discussion, having lived as a hunter, forager, and practitioner of ancestral skills. His insights are not theoretical - they are drawn from direct experience of what it means to provide, protect, and live in alignment with primal masculine virtues. This isn't just about men. If a woman desires a man who embodies these virtues, her role in allowing and encouraging them is crucial. Arthur and Lian discuss how trust, receptivity, and honouring polarity create space for masculinity to thrive, while competition and control can diminish it. They explore the challenges modern culture presents and the ways women can either stifle or inspire the best in men. Together, they unpack why masculinity and femininity are complementary forces, not opposing ones. From the importance of honour to the role of provision and protection, this episode offers a rich exploration of how men and women can create stronger, more aligned relationships, families and communities. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: Masculine virtues are amoral - honour defines their application. Strength, bravery, mastery, and honour are essential masculine traits, but without an honour code, they can be misused. True masculinity is about how these virtues are wielded for the good of family, community, and the land. Women shape the masculine through trust and receptivity. If a woman wants a man who embodies these virtues, she must create space for them. Trust is essential - without it, masculinity cannot emerge. Relinquishing unnecessary control allows men to provide, protect, and lead, while women refine and steer the vision. The primal masculine thrives in purpose and action. Arthur's experience as a hunter and provider highlights how men are wired for challenge, risk, and responsibility. These qualities are not obsolete but deeply ingrained, and when honoured, they allow men to show up fully in relationships, family, and community. In our latest "Ponder On This" episode, Michael Lindfield and Joseph Carenza explore the practice of relinquishing - a concept that goes far beyond simply giving things up. We discuss how relinquishing creates space for our true nature to emerge, much like a snake shedding its old skin to reveal the new one already formed beneath. Michael shares a powerful insight: "The relinquishing of the image of the self is the prelude to stepping into the livingness of the self." This process isn't about denial or punishment, but rather about consciously letting go to create what Michael calls "a space of grace" where our inner truth can flourish. We examine how this applies to our relationships with loved ones, our work in service, and even our cherished spiritual beliefs. The conversation takes an honest look at why mental attachments are often the hardest to release. As Michael notes, "When the A becomes the THE, you've got problems" - highlighting how easily we can mistake a partial truth for the complete picture. We discuss how this mental warfare plays out in our world today and why opening the heart is essential for navigating these challenges. This episode offers practical wisdom for anyone feeling called to create more space in their lives for what truly matters. Whether you're facing personal transitions or simply seeking a deeper connection with your authentic self, there's something here to support your journey. Ownership is the question explored in this epic podcast where Luis interviews Unique Hammond, Zeena Ismail, and Hadar Cohen to share their distinctive perspectives of being forced out of their home/land. The inspiration for the podcast arose from the ashes of the LA wildfire where Unique's home was burnt to the ground as nature evicted her. Forced from their homelands, Zeena Ismail is a Palestinian living in Jordan and Hadar Cohen is a Arab Jew living in the United States. Luis' queries if it is more painful when nature takes your home, compared to your home being taken by humans and war? All were forced to leave their homes, and there is a wisdom in their leaving. Unique notes that when you fight with reality, reality wins 100% of the time. Indeed, we may leave our land, but the land is carried in our bones, and never leaves us. Zeena shares her experience of learning to belong to a new land and welcoming it's wisdom. As the author Robin Wall Kimmerer says, she became indigenous to (a new) place. The added layer of identity is weighed. Identity, as Hadar sees it, is just a lens, not eyesight itself. Can we release the bind and binary of identity? Ultimately we can claim, colonize, and extract from a place, or we can belong to a place. As Hadar asks, if you belong to the land why do you need to control it? Would there even be war if we did not have ownership? A universal question emerges, do we grasp at what was, or can we allow transformation to occur? The change in Black Caps test captaincy obviously had to happen. Whether it was the captaincy that affected his performances or not, and I actually think it played a big part, the fact is Tim Southee wasn't doing enough to guarantee his place in the team. That becomes a real issue when you're the captain, even more so on the sub-continent. More often than not, you play just two seamers in tests over there, so you need to pick your quickest bowler and your best bowler. Tim Southee is neither of these. The omission of Matt Henry can only be explained by Southee being captain/ The last time Henry bowled in test cricket was against Australia at the end of our home summer. He took 5-70 and 3-36 in the first test, then 7-67 and 2-94 in the second. 17 wickets at 15.71, easily our best bowler, and probably the best across both sides in the series. Tim Southee took 4 wickets in those two tests at an average of 61. Henry also contributed some handy runs, averaging over 25 across the series, Southee averaged 8.5. But Matt Henry was the man left out of these Sri Lankan tests because Tim Southee was captain. Imagine taking 7 for 67 in an innings against Australia, then being dropped for the next test. Thankfully, that'll be one of the first things put right by the captaincy change – it'll ensure Matt Henry plays against India. The question now is whether Tim Southee even goes on that tour. I don't think he should. He should stay back here, get out of the limelight, freshen up, and get ready to play the three tests against England before Christmas. He should definitely play those tests, we'll have a seam-heavy attack, and Southee still earns his place in a 4-prong attack with Matt Henry, Will O'Rourke, and probably Ben Sears. I don't know the current status of Kyle Jamieson, hopefully we'll see him again this summer. But Southee plays those tests. And I think that might be a good way to bring the curtain down on what has been, by every measure, a terrific career. 382 test wickets, only Sir Richard Hadlee has more for us than that. Wouldn't it be great to see him join the exclusive 400-wicket club? 18 more wickets might be a stretch in three tests, but who knows? Without having to worry about anything other than bowling, and on reasonably seam-friendly wickets at Hagley, the Basin, and Seddon Park, he could do it. I honestly think relinquishing the captaincy is a good thing for Tim Southee. He is one of our cricketing greats, he deserves to go out on top. The longer the captaincy saga played out, the more his legacy was being tainted. Now he's got the chance for a swansong at home and to enjoy a fitting end to a great, great career. Tonight, on Trackside, we have a lot of news to talk about! Kevin and Curt start the show by talking about Keanu Reeves racing at IMS. They discuss Rossi moving to Ed Carpenter Racing, and how he can help Ed Carpenter Racing become a better team. They also talk about Christian Rasmussen going to ECR as well. They debate on who will be in the Juncos lineup, and Jamie Chadwick's test at IMS. Kevin talks about how she could benefit from another year of Indy NXT. Later, Kevin and Curt talk about the big news that Michael Andretti has stepped down from his leadership role at Andretti. They talk about who will take over in Andretti's stead, and what will happen to the team's name. They speculate if the reason Andretti stepped down was because of F1 refusing to have the Andretti branding. They also discuss Wayne Taylor Racing removing the Andretti name from their branding. To round out the first hour, Kevin previews the next hour. In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt look at some tweets by fans. They talk about the group that Zak Brown and Michael Andretti formed called Andretti Acquisition Corp. II, and what the purpose of the organization is. Could it be to buy IndyCar? They also answer a question about other investors being added to IndyCar to help with growing the series. They also talk about the schedule, and the importance of avoiding football. Later, Kevin and Curt talk about the likelihood of returning to some previous tracks that fans have been vying for several seasons. They talk about if they will ever go back to Phoenix and Watkins Glen. They also talk about the possibility of Daniel Riccardo racing IndyCar, and his fear of ovals. To end the show, Kevin reviews what they missed, including if the IMS oval test will be open to the public. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A sort of accelerated version of ‘practice makes perfect'. In reality, it's often the spaces, people, and organizations we find ourselves immersed in that slowly but inevitably shape how we interact with the world. But as my guest this week reminds listeners, when leaders experience major transitions, we need to remember that a lot of what we've learned no longer works. Joe Bogdan is the outgoing Chief of Enlisted Force Development for the United States Air Force, and founder of Waypoint Front Solutions. After 24 years of service he is retiring in September of 2024, but true to form, this transition is one Joe has been planning for a long time. This week he sits down with Mike to discuss what it looks like to have to give up some of the leadership-tools you've perfected for ones you never had to consider, why we need to see the small transitions is practice for the larger ones, and the danger of losing ourselves to our accomplishments. ________________________SHOWNOTESContact JoeJoe's Reading List

In the interests of being able to cope for the next while, on this episode Osher has a bit of a mental health plan for keeping our heads level. And it's got to do with control. Today I have the great pleasure of sharing a recent conversation that I had with the brilliant Oliver Burkeman - author of the book ‘4,000 Weeks.” Few books have impacted as much as Oliver's and it is one that I return to time and time again. In short, The average human lifespan is absurdly, insultingly brief. As Oliver states “If you live to be 80, you'll have had about 4,000 weeks. But that's no reason for despair. We must confront our radical finitude, accepting how little control we have. This is the key to a fulfilling and meaningfully productive life. Hi mamas. Today on the podcast, I'm joined by Rachael Shepard-Ohta, who is a certified sleep consultant, a parent educator, content creator, podcaster, mother of three and founder of Hey Sleep Baby. I had the pleasure of being on Rachael's podcast, No One Told Us, last year and I was so happy to have the opportunity to have another wonderful conversation with her here. In this episode, we discuss Rachael's expectations prior to becoming a mother and how her lived experience compared to this, and in particular, the relinquishing of control that comes with parenthood and how this can bring out a part of ourselves that we may not have had much contact with prior to becoming a parent. We also talk about Rachael's journey to starting Hey Sleepy Baby, following her own negative experience with sleep training her first child as a response to outside pressure surrounding her baby's sleep, and the passion this ignited in her to challenge the status quo of baby sleep advice. We also discuss: - The versions of ourselves from before we had children, the transition parenthood brings and how, when we feel resistance or struggles in our mothering, it is often due to these parts of our former selves that are still there and are needing to be seen. - The challenge of balancing the requirements of career and work alongside motherhood, and in particular both mine and Rachael's experience of running our own businesses and the challenges this can present in terms of compartmentalising and being present with our children - Rachael's experience of postnatal anxiety following the birth of her first child, which was contributed to by the stress and external pressures surrounding her baby's sleep. We reflect on the preoccupation with baby sleep in these early phases and how this stems from the lack of support within our culture. - The power of trusting yourself, trusting your mothering, and knowing that nothing that you're dealing with is forever. And much more. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. I've had the privilege of working with and interacting with these two Champaign powerhouses during my That's What She Said (TWSS) production prep. Kerry and Jenette are friends, colleagues and a perfect blend of business, theater, dreams and realistic goals. Listen as this duo explains the evolution of the popular, annual production of TWSS. With a full plate, Kerry hesitantly handed an eager Jenette the foundation of the production. Jenette took the baton and brought TWSS back from hiatus using Kerry's fundamental tenants: no drinking before/during, no f*** bombs, use first person only (aka talk about YOURSELF), no religion/politics and no marketing/selling. Jenette has respectfully taken these foundational elements and used the “fishbowl of ideas” to grow the show premise into different mediums: From the Stage to the Page book, The She Said Project Podcast and a dozen markets performing their own TWSS. Learn about their dynamic and what's important to them: the power of yes vs. no, appreciation toward the ordinary day, beach wave syndrome and the night you'll ugly cry and belly laugh.
