Lisbon-based Nathan Jenkins, the producer and songwriter working as Bullion, is an enduring cult fixture and has a new album called Affection. His brand of warm, shiny pop is as intoxicating as it gets on “World_train,” for which Bullion enlists a perfect collaborator, Charlotte Adigéry, to turn the track into a folky, meandering ditty.
Nathan Jenkins es una figura de culto en la música electrónica en sus trabajos para Nilüfer Yanya, Avalon Emerson o Ben Howard. In this episode, John is joined by Ben Howard and producer Nathan Jenkins aka Bullion, to talk about how they wrote, recorded and produced Ben's latest album ‘Is It?'. Looking back on their time together, Ben and Nathan talk us through their collaborative journey, from their initial coffee shop discussions, to the 10 day stint recording in the South of France. Sharing their initial sketches, voice note demos and the unexpected moments that changed the direction of each of the tracks. In addition to stories of delay tuning and the potentially negative effects of singing with too much reverb, the pair share their thoughts on the importance of considering different musical approaches and giving time to ideas to allow them to flourish. Listen to find out why you'll never need four mics on an amp, why one wrong note with a delay can ruin a whole take, and why laziness is fundamental to Ben's creativity. Nathan Jenkins returns from Word of Life and begins with a teaching from Matthew 28:18-19 and 20L 25-28. In this teaching, Nathan is focused on our identity in Christ by asking who is God, what has he done, and who am I in light of who God is and what he has done.
On Easter Sunday, Nathan Jenkins joins us to speak about being a Fan of Jesus v. a Follower of Jesus. It's a tough lesson, one that we all should hear and really think about. For this sermon, Nathan used Matthew 16: 24-26.
Have you ever critically thought about what fitness means to you? ...Should that definition be different from person to person, or should exercise scientists and the fitness industry have a unified understanding? Dr. Jenkins, PhD exercise physiologist, wrote an article in the CrossFit Journal (read it here: https://journal.crossfit.com/article/science-jenkins .... for real, READ IT) citing how many exercise science organizations have differing understandings, criteria and definitions of the simple word: "Fitness". We discuss the CrossFit definition of fitness by Greg Glassman, and it's beautiful simplicity in its physics based math. And this leads me to a handful of lightbulb moments! And we spend a lot of time talking about some of the amazing research coming out of his lab :)
Nathan spoke this week about how we must empty ourselves to come to Jesus and shared a powerful story of a friend of his who went through that very process.
Nathan spoke to us this week on Romans 12:2 and how we are all copy catters. We learned about why we conform to God rather than to this world.
This week Nathan spoke of the reckless love of God for His children and his promise that there is nothing that can separate us.
We are excited at what God will be doing through these missional communities and their leaders! God has been on a mission from the beginning of time and He has created a wave of momentum that we are just joining in with using this method of Missional Communities with hope to saturate our community, region, country, and world with the empowering presence of God's Spirit!
For six years, Nathan Jenkins was part of Australian extreme metal band The Amenta, known for their refusal to fully commit to any sense of what a metal band should be. After working within those extremities and contradictions, Nathan established the solo project titled Host, fusing dark ambient, noise and drone. In this episode of Out From Under, Stuart Buchanan talks to Nathan about this transition and his highly ritualistic approach to music making, as well as his role as curator for the upcoming two-day event, Black Mountain.Originally broadcast on 'Out From Under' on Resonance Extra.
Listen to our interview with Celeste Kim, whom you may also know from local L.A. Powerpop/Punk band Underwater City People, and her Producers Nathan Jenkins and Taylor Martyr (both of Action Go Now). With a new EP that debuted January 15th, Kim is ready to make her mark in this new world of music that she has always been a fan of and she joins us in studio to discuss her shiny super-new project Sparkalize! Tracks by Jeff the Brotherhood ("Bone Jam"),Lykke Li, Foster the People ("Pumped Up Kicks), Cloud Control ("Ghost Story"), and The Bees ("Winter Rose") were played during this episode as well as "Lucky Charm," "Belong", "Romance Not War," and "Party Girl" (Title Track) all tracks from the Sparkalize Party Girl EP. Here is a little more information on this new project: Sparkalize is a new electro-pop project via singer/songwriter Celeste Kim. Emerging from the Kiss or Kill LA underground rock and roll scene with indie pop punk band Underwater City People, she returns to her first crush: dance music. As a minor, getting into dance clubs and raves by way of fake id’s, tons of makeup, and stilleto heels helped her get her fix. The intoxication of the bass on the floor and the floating synths has had her hooked ever since. Sparkalize is her love affair.Celeste has toured as keyboardist and as a back up singer with major artists such as Savage Garden, Coolio, and Rebekah Del Rio performing on stages all over the world, as well as on the Tonight show.Recently she sang and played bass with 3 piece indie punk/rock group Underwater City People which allowed her to tour the US, gain national exposure on prime time TV shows and win an award for 'Best Pop Single' at the LA Music Awards. Now, longing to focus on her love of dance music, Celeste has teamed up with producers Nathan Jenkins and Taylor Martyr (Action Go Now) and Jonathan Paul (redCola, Obtain) to record her debut solo EP “Sparkalize.”
