Drone News: 2026 World Cup TFRs, BVLOS Waiver Times, Flock Safety, Walmart Drone Delivery

Drone News Update

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 5, 2026 5:53

Welcome to your weekly UAS News Update, We have four stories for you this week: the FAA publishes TFRs for the 2026 World Cup, North Dakota cuts BVLOS waiver times down to just 23 days, Flock Safety pushes the limits of police drone cameras, and a Walmart drone delivery pad sparks a local zoning fight in North Carolina. Let's get to it.First up this week, the FAA has officially published the venue list, dates, and airspace dimensions for the FIFA World Cup 2026 flight restrictions. If you're flying in any of the host cities, you'll want to pay attention to this.Eleven U.S. stadiums are getting three-nautical-mile radius restriction up to 3,000 feet above ground level on every match day. Twelve fan festivals are getting a tighter one-nautical-mile ring up to 1,000 feet, and several of these stay active continuously for weeks! In addition, hotels and practice sites are also getting a 1NM TFRs, even in cities that won't be hosting games. This is a reminder that LAANC authorization buys you absolutely NO exemption inside an active TFR, this is for both Part 107 operators and Recreational pilots. The FAA is also using their DETER program to fast-track enforcement.Next up, North Dakota has managed to cut Beyond Visual Line of Sight waiver times from months down to just 23 business days. This is happening through the state's Vantis network, which covers more than 5,000 square miles of managed airspace. They recently activated the FAA's Federal Radar Enclave, which feeds the network the exact same real-time radar data that federal air traffic controllers use. Because the network handles the detect-and-avoid safety case, operators who join inherit that approval work instead of starting from scratch. Frontier Precision just joined as an operator, and their waiver covers any NDAA-compliant platform under 55 pounds flying within the Vantis service volumes. In our third story this week, Flock Safety is pushing the camera specs on its American-made Alpha drone as the Drone as First Responder market heats up. Flock claims the Alpha's gimbaled camera can read a vehicle license plate from up to 2,000 feet away. The payload combines multi-sensor optics, high-definition thermal imaging, low-light sensors, and a laser rangefinder. If you aren't familiar, the Alpha tops out at 60 mph and claims a flight time of up to 45 minutes. It also features a dual battery-swapping dock with climate control that gets the drone airborne again in under 90 seconds. In addition, the drone is designed and assembled in Atlanta, Georgia, and is fully NDAA-compliant. Last up, a Walmart drone delivery pad has turned into a major zoning fight in Lincoln County, North Carolina.  Walmart wants to build a small drone launch area in the parking lot of its Denver, North Carolina store to expand its Wing-operated delivery service. However, more than 200 neighbors have signed a petition to stop it, citing concerns over privacy, noise, and wildlife. The Wing delivery drones are hybrid aircraft that take off vertically and then fly on fixed wings. They weigh about 11 pounds and carry a 2.5-pound payload, though a newer model can carry up to 5 pounds. They cruise at 60 mph at about 150 feet above the ground with a 6-mile radius. When they arrive, they don't land, but instead hover at about 23 feet and lower the package on a tether. While the FAA already governs the airspace and has cleared this kind of delivery, local county commissioners control the land-use zoning for the launchpad itself. That's it for this week, see you next week for Post flight where we'll discuss these stories uncensored, live Q&A on Monday, and News update on Friday! https://dronexl.co/2026/06/02/flock-alpha-camera-drone-dfr-push/https://dronexl.co/2026/06/02/north-dakota-bvlos-waivers-23/https://dronexl.co/2026/05/31/faa-publishes-world-cup-tfr-venue-list/https://dronexl.co/2026/06/02/walmart-drone-pad-zoning-fight-in-nc/

(Jens Odegaard / Oregon State University) A group of Siletz Indians in Oregon are holding a presentation this Saturday to honor a humpback whale that washed ashore in Lincoln County last fall and died. As KLCC's Brian Bull reports, it is to help non-Natives understand the historical and cultural significance of these mammals. The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians (CTSI) sent a team in mid-November to do a traditional salvage of the whale, a common practice for coastal Native people for centuries. Lisa Norton, CTSI's chief administrative officer, and several others will discuss whales through storytelling, in a welcoming and open space near the Amanda Trail in Yachats. Norton hopes the audience leaves with one main takeaway. “Gaining and understanding of what it meant to us as a people, as individuals. And for those who were already connected with the whale, to understand that connection a little bit deeper or maybe understand that that connection isn’t over. And that it will live on in the stories that we do tell.” Norton says CTSI's cultural and natural resources department will eventually decide what will be done with the whale's bones and other materials. Ḵaayák'w Brandon Gomez introduces the Wind Dancer yaakw and asks permission to come ashore at Auke Recreation Area on June 2, 2026. (Photo: Yvonne Krumrey / KTOO) Thirteen canoes bringing Alaska Native paddlers from across Southeast Alaska and Canada arrived in Juneau, Alaska Tuesday afternoon. The canoes landed in two separate groups — one in downtown Juneau and the other at a traditional Aak’w (AHK) village site, north of town, as KTOO's Yvonne Krumrey reports. Áak'w Kwáan Elder Seikoonie Fran Houston waits on the shore at Auke Recreation Area as yaakw (canoes) enter the bay. “It’s going to be good to see family and family and family and friends, and it’s a beautiful day, so the ancestors are happy also.” Every other June, more than 100 paddlers arrive in Juneau this way to kick off Celebration, a gathering of Alaska Native people celebrating cultural revitalization. Sealaska Heritage Institute started the event more than four decades ago. They come to Celebration the old-fashioned way — paddling yaakw that were carved for this occasion. Some travel from as far north as the Yukon. “My name is Ughąts'etsӓna Ma. I'm Crow Clan. We’re from Dakwäkäda, Haines Junction, Yukon… We’re looking to celebrate now.” Ughąts'etsӓna Ma Cheyenne Sparvier-Kinney introduces her boat to the shore. Later, she reflects on the multi-day journey down Lynn Canal. “The journey was great. It was really a healing journey for a lot of us, not just our boat, but from the experiences that we’ve shared together. Yeah, it’s a healing journey for all of us.” Others, like ShaaL'aanee Brandon Ware, are from as far south as Petersburg. This was the community's first time sending a canoe to Celebration. “Gunalcheesh for having us. We are so grateful to be here. Forgive me if I miss protocol, this is our first journey in over 100 years.” In downtown Juneau, three yaakw make their way to shore as hundreds stand watching. As the yaakw neared, Shangukeidí Casey Moats stands up to greet the crowd. “I had heard that I would never know my language, I’d never belong to a clan, I’d never have a name, I wouldn’t know my songs, and to do this means everything in the whole world.” X'ash Kugé ka Yaanasax Barbara Cadiente-Nelson is a council member and secretary at Douglas Indian Association. She was one of the original planners for the first-ever Celebration in 1982. As she watches the yaakw arrive downtown, she says that for Alaska Native culture to continue to flourish, the next generation has to be grounded in place. “When you take a look around and you see our people of all ages and our youth, we are, yeah, and the young people that are singing and dancing, that they’re connected to place, they’re understanding and growing in their responsibility as Lingít, Haida, Tsimshians.” Celebration officially starts Wednesday, with a Grand Entrance parade into Centennial Hall downtown. Over the coming days, there will be numerous events and ceremonies dedicated to honor and uplift Alaska Native culture. While his team was on-site at 6:30 a.m. blacking in a customer's half-destroyed house and clearing debris to prevent further rain damage, a guy rolls up in a truck with a skid steer wearing a bright orange “Entergy Safety Team” shirt. He offers to clean everything up fast… until Jamie asks if he actually works for Entergy. The guy admits he doesn't. Jamie warns listeners loud and clear: right after a major storm, hustlers and scammers swarm in pretending to be utility workers or offering immediate cleanup and repairs. They prey on families at their most vulnerable. His advice — call your actual insurance agent first, know exactly what your policy covers, and be extremely wary of anyone showing up uninvited in official-looking gear trying to pressure you into quick work. Dust off your spurs and holster your revolvers, because this week Beans and Gaz are heading back to 1881. The boys are joined by a very special guest, Jeremiah Slatten of the Billy the Kid Historical Coalition, to separate the man from the myth and the history from the Hollywood sizzle.Whether you know him as Henry McCarty, William H. Bonney, or just the fastest gun in Lincoln County, Billy the Kid remains the ultimate enigma of the American West. But how much of what we "know" is just smoke and mirrors?Hollywood vs. History: We put the cult classic Young Guns films under the microscope. Jeremiah breaks down what the movies got right (the chaos of the Lincoln County War) and what they got wildly wrong (spoiler: the "pewter" scene didn't quite happen that way). The Man Behind the Iron: Who was Billy, really? We dive into his early life, his surprising literacy, and his reputation as a charismatic, bilingual social butterfly rather than a cold-blooded sociopath.Living on the Edge: What was daily life actually like in the 1870s New Mexico Territory? From the grit of the cattle trails to the tension of a territory governed by "The House," we discuss the brutal reality of frontier survival. The Relics and the Receipts: With "lost" photos and "authentic" knives popping up at auctions every year, Jeremiah discusses the rigorous provenance required to prove an artifact actually belonged to the Kid.The Brushy Bill Controversy: We tackle the legend of Brushy Bill Roberts head-on. Was the Kid really killed by Pat Garrett in Fort Sumner, or did he live to be an old man in Hico, Texas? The Trail of the Kid: Looking for a road trip? Jeremiah lists the essential historical sites you can visit today to walk in Billy's footsteps, from the Lincoln County Courthouse to the quiet grave site in Fort Sumner.Jeremiah explains the vital work of the Billy the Kid Historical Coalition, an organization dedicated to preserving the true history of the Lincoln County War and protecting the legacy of the Regulators from being buried by time and tall tales. And finally, the guys get personal. Small Cap Breaking News You Can't Miss! Here's a quick rundown of the latest updates from standout small-cap companies making big moves today:Maverick Gold and Silver Corporation (CSE: MAV) (FSE: VR61) (OTC Pink: VRCFF) has tripled the size of its Jericho Property in Lincoln County, Nevada by acquiring 62 new claims via staking, expanding the property 370% to 1,683 acres (6.8 sq km). The expanded footprint now covers all known mineralization identified by previous operators, with a recent grab sample returning 2.50 g/t gold and 188.0 g/t silver. Investors gain a significantly larger land package surrounding a low-sulphidation epithermal target as the company advances toward drilling.Metals Creek Resources Corporation (TSXV: MEK) (FSE: M1C1) has mobilized a drill rig to its Ogden Gold Project in Timmins, Ontario — a 50/50 joint venture with Discovery Silver in which Metals Creek acts as operator. The program targets four holes on the Thomas Ogden Zone, using structural data from prior oriented core to optimize hole orientations. Timmins is one of Canada's most prolific gold camps, making any drill mobilization here a meaningful near-term catalyst.Legacy Gold Mines Limited (TSXV: LEGY) has announced Phase 1 of its 2026 drill program at the Baner Gold Mine Property in Idaho County, Idaho is targeting start-up the week of May 11, 2026. The total program targets 40,000 feet (12,194 metres), commencing with roughly 12,000 feet of diamond drilling. Investors should watch for initial assay results as a near-term news trigger from this American gold exploration play.Selkirk Copper Mines Incorporated (TSXV: SCMI) (FSE: IO20) (OTCQB: SKRKF) has closed its upsized $35 million bought deal private placement, issuing 23,914,000 common shares at C$1.15 per share and 4,412,000 flow-through shares at C$1.70 per share. The fully underwritten nature of this raise signals strong institutional demand for the Company's copper-gold project in the Yukon. A bought deal of this size at these prices is a meaningful validator of the asset's potential.Silver Elephant Mining Corporation (TSX: ELEF) (OTCQB: SILEF) (FSE: 1P2) has sold a second silver-lead concentrate lot from its Apuradita Paca Mining Operation in Bolivia — a 31.6-tonne dry-basis lot grading 8,795 g/t silver and 24% lead, containing approximately 8,936 ounces of silver. Back-to-back silver sales demonstrate that this is an operating mine generating real revenue, not just exploration promises. Investors watching for small-cap producers with current cash flow should take note.Bottom Line: Today's stories highlight active capital deployment across the mining sector — from Nevada property expansions and Timmins drill mobilizations to a $35 million bought deal in the Yukon and actual silver revenue from Bolivia — underscoring broad momentum in small-cap resource stocks.Stay ahead of the market — follow AGORACOM for more breaking small-cap news and insights.

Small Cap Breaking News You Can't Miss! Here's a quick rundown of the latest updates from standout small-cap companies making big moves today:PyroGenesis Inc. (TSX: PYR) (OTCQX: PYRGF) (FRA: 8PY1)PyroGenesis successfully produced high-quality battery-grade graphite from carbon black using a proprietary plasma process, achieving a graphitization level exceeding 96 percent, well above the 90 to 95 percent threshold required for lithium-ion battery anodes. The Company holds a 10 percent royalty on future gross revenues from the client's initial commercial plant and is the exclusive plasma supplier for subsequent plants, positioning PyroGenesis to help address a critical graphite supply chain dominated by China.Maverick Gold and Silver Corp. (CSE: MAV) (FSE: VR61) (OTC Pink: VRCFF)Maverick engaged contractors and will begin an initial work program in May at its Jericho property in Lincoln County, Nevada, featuring systematic rock sampling and detailed mapping across two parallel mineralized trends totalling over six kilometres of strike. The program will leverage a recently acquired historic dataset including detailed 1:5,000 geologic mapping, 70 surface samples, and XRD alteration analysis, targeting high-grade gold and silver in a low sulfidation epithermal system.Heliostar Metals Ltd. (TSXV: HSTR) (OTCQX: HSTXF) (FSE: RGG1)Heliostar reported exceptional drill results at its Ana Paula project in Guerrero, Mexico, highlighted by hole AP-25-360 returning 69.15 metres grading 10.09 g/t gold and hole AP-25-359 cutting 43.80 metres at 13.91 g/t gold, including 19.85 metres at 22.51 g/t gold. These broad high-grade intercepts support the conversion of inferred resources to higher-confidence categories ahead of the 2027 Feasibility Study and a targeted 2028 production start.Noble Plains Uranium Corp. (TSXV: NOBL) (OTCQB: NBLXF) (FSE: INE0)Noble Plains delivered a maiden NI 43-101 mineral resource estimate at its flagship Duck Creek Project in Wyoming's Powder River Basin, with 5.32 million pounds U3O8 Indicated and 1.04 million pounds Inferred, delivered just eight months after closing the acquisition. The resource outperformed the prior Exploration Target by 30 percent on grade and 40 percent on grade-thickness, with roughly 2.75 miles of the 5.25-mile mineralized trend still largely untested and an untested Fort Union Formation offering further upside.NorthWest Copper (TSXV: NWST)NorthWest Copper announced an upsize of its best efforts private placement to approximately $12.0 million with Stifel Canada and Canaccord Genuity serving as agents, reflecting what CEO Paul Olmsted described as strong investor demand. Proceeds will fund an updated Preliminary Economic Assessment at the Kwanika-Stardust project targeted for mid-2026 and planned exploration drilling to upgrade and expand mineral resources, with closing expected on or about May 14, 2026.Bottom Line: Today's headlines highlight a powerful mix of transformative clean-tech milestones, standout high-grade drill results, a maiden uranium resource, and strong capital markets demand underscoring broad momentum across the small-cap mining and materials sectors.Stay ahead of the market — follow AGORACOM for more breaking small-cap news and insights.Connect With AGORACOM Anyway You Like

Welcome back to another episode of the Bourbon Road podcast! This week, Todd Ritter is holding down the fort solo while Jim Shannon escapes to warmer weather. But Todd isn't drinking alone at the Bourbon Road bar; he's joined by two fantastic returning guests to celebrate the Bottled in Bond Act. Amsey Wenning, the "Alec Baldwin of the show" from the Frankfort Bourbon Society and Bourbon on the Banks, is back, along with filmmaker Bo Cumberland, the director behind the Frankfort: The Heart of Bourbon documentary. The guys dive into a deep discussion about Bo's recent documentary work. With his Frankfort film approaching 22,000 views on YouTube, Bo shares the overwhelmingly positive response it has received. He also talks about his exciting new series, Forging a Bourbon Legacy, which explores the deep, intertwining roots of bourbon history in Anderson County. Through short-form episodes, Bo is uncovering the fascinating stories of families and figures like the Ripy family, the Bonds, Judge McBrayer, and the history behind Wild Turkey, proving that Kentucky's bourbon history is anything but simple. Amsey also shares some incredible news about the Bourbon on the Banks festival, revealing that the charity-driven event recently distributed over $100,000 to local organizations, with volunteers getting a say in where the funds go. Of course, a Bottled in Bond celebration requires some stellar 100-proof whiskeys, and the tasting mat is loaded with unique and highly anticipated pours: First up is a true dusty: 1992 Old Crow Bottled-in-Bond. This 4-year-old Japanese export delivers a classic bourbon nose with rich caramel and dark colors that defy its age. The guys marvel at its luscious mouthfeel and cherry caramel notes, finding it vastly superior to modern iterations of the brand and proving that the "good Old Crow" was truly something special. Next, Amsey brings a unique bottle to the table: Angel's Envy Cask Strength Bottled in Bond. A rare combination of terms, this 6-year-old bourbon achieves its 100 proof through a lower barrel entry proof and meticulous blending rather than adding water. The crew discovers an intriguing almond and amaretto nose, followed by a soft, fruity palate with hints of green apple, light caramel, and a sweet confectioner's sugar finish that drinks surprisingly gentle. Finally, they head south to sample the Old Dominick Bottled in Bond Tennessee Whiskey. Produced in Memphis, this expression features a mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley. It undergoes the Lincoln County process and is aged in West Tennessee white oak with a heavy #4 alligator char. The result is a bold, earthy pour with notes of dark cherry, sweet pipe tobacco, and a pleasant graininess that finishes with a spicy, white pepper kick. Tune in as the guys sip through these incredible bonded whiskeys, debate the merits of short-form versus long-form storytelling, and share plenty of laughs along the way. Cheers! Be sure to check out our private Facebook group, "The Bourbon Roadies" for a great group of bourbon loving people. You will be welcomed with open arms!

Weather was a little fickle in 2025 for Wisconsin's cranberry growers. Jill Welke gets the update from Grant Holley, executive director of the WI Cranberry Growers Association. He says that producers continue to struggle with access to global markets. That's something they've been targeting to try and educate and engage with a whole new consuming audience. We may not be setting any records, but Wisconsin will stay cold and dangerous again this week. Stu Muck says the winds will persist until at least mid-week, but there will be some sunshine to act as a salve. The global marketplace seems to get more complicated by the day for Wisconsin farmers. Ben Jarboe discusses those challenges with Dewey Hull, broker at Advanced Trading in Deforest. Hull says influences from the Venezuelan oil situation to the ongoing war in Ukraine are pushing U.S. farmers margins. He also advises that farms should be using every risk management tool available to find a path forward. There's a new flavor coming to Cedar Crest scoop shops this summer! Hold Your Horses was the winning flavor in the annual contest that engages 4-H clubs across the state. Pam Jahnke reports that the new flavor from Pesobic Pathfinders 4-H Club in Lincoln County features espresso-flavored ice cream with chocolate covered toffee pieces and caramel ribbons. The winning combination captured the club a $500 cash prize and an ice cream party. There's nothing sweet about the current economic outlook for almost all elements of Wisconsin agriculture. Ag lenders are keeping a keen eye on costs or production and what farms are doing to be proactive on their situation. Trevor Athorp is an ag lender in Sheboygan for Bank First. For over two decades he's been involved in direct conversations with farmers and their advisors about mitigating risk. He says this year, individuals must know their cost of production for each element on the farm, and deploy proactive measures to control what they can.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Join Daily Inter Lake reporter Taylor Inman as she goes over the week's biggest headlines for Northwest Montana.  Newly obtained footage shows a Whitefish police officer contacted Border Patrol less than two minutes into an April 24 traffic stop for a broken taillight. The driver, Beker Rengifo del Castillo, is a Venezuelan man who entered the United States legally under a humanitarian parole program. The call, and the weeklong detention that followed, are now the focus of a lawsuit alleging unconstitutional seizure, false arrest, and racial profiling. A preliminary pretrial conference is scheduled for Jan. 30 in Missoula. Watch the full video of the body cam footage here.Next, we share the latest update on flood recovery efforts in Lincoln County, where at least nine bridges were washed out during mid-December storms. Officials say damage to county-owned roads, bridges, and culverts exceeds $5 million, and reconstruction timelines will depend on vendor availability and federal funding approvals. We then turn to the Flathead Reservation, where voters filled five open seats on the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Tribal Council. Three incumbents held their positions, while two seats changed hands. The newly elected council will be sworn in Jan. 2 and will soon select leadership roles.A big thank you to our headline sponsor for the News Now podcast, Loren's Auto Repair!
