In this episode, we interview Nick Gill, who talks about meeting our co-host Matt for the first time and how their relationship developed both personally and professionally. We dive into the nuances of building connections in unexpected ways, with Nick offering some fascinating insights from his perspective. As always, there's plenty of fun, including a side tangent about some of the joke songs we've made over the years. It's a laid-back, entertaining conversation you won't want to miss. Mentioned in this episode: Yoto Player The Quokkas Lil Rick Nick's Number 1 Track
his week Bunny is in the garden with Tim Hart. Tim switched from a nine year long banking career to starting a hotel in 1979. Now his world famous hotel, Hambleton Hall in Rutland, is renown for its superb cuisine – it has held a Michelin star since 1982, for 44 years, the longest of any restaurant in the UK. Tim gained this just 3 years after opening, while AA Gill's brother, Nick Gill, was head chef. The gardens Tim has created, which overlook Rutland Water, are also exceptional. Tim explains how they altered them to give them year round appeal and how he prunes his stunning cloud pruned cork oak, climbing the trees himself in order to do it. See the video ‘Fabulous Food, Fabulous Garden' on Bunny's YouTube channel where she chats to Tim and the Head Gardener Rob. www.hambletonhall.com #hambletonhall #bunnyguinnesspodcast
You can't be what you can't see. It's a saying that prompted a former AFL player to create a children's band, so that his kids could be exposed to more than the bland musical world they were offered. Nick Gill is the founder of children's band The Quokkas, with a mission to show children a modern and inclusive Australia through song. After his AFL career Nick went on to become a Channel 7 news reporter and then Breakfast radio host in Newcastle, but it's writing songs for his twins that reflects the diversity of Australia that now keeps him awake at night. He recruited an elite group of musicians to form The Quokkas, with the attitude that they're learning as much from the kids as the kids are from the music. They've just released a new album called Songs for Everyone, and have had their videos downloaded millions of times all around the world, on themes such as body positivity, cooperation and kindness. Nick Gill and fellow Quokkas member Matt McLaren talk to Nance Haxton about what's coming up in the future for this exciting children's music band. So far in Casting the Inner Critic, I have been speaking solely with female creatives and in this episode I am rectifying that and chatting with Nick Gill. Nick is a former professional Aussie rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Crows. He is now a breakfast radio presenter on Hit 106.9 in Newcastle, he is also part of a band for kids called the Quokkas. It's catchy music that is all about diversity, inclusivity and basically it is music that makes a difference. Nick talks about his doubtful clump of clay critic called Gak and casts his counter critic as his inner rational, nerdy spreadsheet loving self. Find Nick on instagram, on Hit 106.9 Newcastle and in the Quokkas. www.darlingmillsstudio.com @darling_mills_studio
