Katherine Aguasvivas is on a road trip, from her home in Homestead Florida, which is south of Miami, to central Florida to visit friends. After going through Orlando, Aguasvivas calls her husband Miguel in a panic. She tells him that she is in Winter Springs, and there is a green Acura running into her back bumper. He tells her not to stop, and keep driving, but neither of them calls 911. At 5:30 p.m., Aguasvivas stops for a traffic light at the intersection. What goes down next is caught on camera by a witness. A man dressed in all black gets out of the Acura approaches the driver's side of Aguasvivas' Dodge Durango and threatens her with a gun. He forces his way inside, climbing into the back seat, and forcing Katherine Aguasvivas to drive. The eyewitness calls 911. It's a voice message extravaganza as Joe and Big Al talk about tax gain harvesting on Dante in New York's daughter's custodial account, and the tax impacts of Leon in Chicago investing in his brokerage account. Plus, should Kevin in Ohio make like the Steve Miller Band and "take the (pension) money and run"? Shakeira Rucker: Missing Winter Springs woman found dead inside Apopka storage unit and more news
Chef Ian Russell and his wife, Juliana Peña, could not agree on whether to open a donut shop or a barbecue restaurant. So, like in any good relationship, they compromised and decided to try both, creating Smoke & Donuts. “We had no idea that the response was going to be what it was,' Russell said. “It was a donut and barbecue concept and when we google donut and barbecue back then — you punched into Google and nothing came up. It didn't Google. There was nothing when you punch donuts and barbecue, barbecue and doughnuts into Google. And so that's either — well it could be terrifying because you have a really bad idea or it's a good idea right and nobody else's was doing it.” The pair first took their idea on the road as a pop-up “in the back alley of a Winter Springs brewery.” "We sold out fast — that's what happened,” Russells said. “That's kind of why we — that's how it continued forward. That's how the inertia of the concept of the two ideas going together moved forward because at our first event, we sold out and really fast.” The pair's success continued and they kept moving forward, despite juggling full-time jobs on top of their pop-ups. “It's tiring, but the response from the Orlando community was so encouraging, so exciting, so invigorating, that it kept pushing us forward,” Russell said. Even with continued success over the last six year — recently opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Orlando's trendy Milk District — Peña still works in a regular job. “My wife still has her day job. You know, we're not to a point yet where we're, able to just roll without any kind of standard income,” Russell said. Despite that, Russell said his goal is to make his customers happy. “We want people to eat barbecue and doughnuts and when they visit us have fun for a little bit and have a good time. And that's it. That's the goal. A little bit of joy in the middle of your day,” he said. While the concept is barbecue and donuts, Russell said their goal is not to force people to indulge in both together, unless they want to — in which case, there is are barbecue and donut sandwiches on the menu. “Often at a restaurant, the donuts will be ready first. And so 50% of the time at least, we start with dessert at our restaurant,” he said. Russell himself is a classically trained chef, getting his education at the Culinary Institute of America. When the business was starting out, he was also making all of the donuts but eventually decided to hire someone more qualified in that department. “I kind of BS my way through it a little bit,” he said. Then at one point, this classically trained pastry chef reached out to me and sent me an email that said, ‘Hey, I'm interested in working with you on the donut side,' and I kind of didn't pay attention to her in the beginning. She sent me another email and this one had pictures in it. She even put pictures of a donut that she made that had flames on it. So I hired her.” On the latest Florida Foodie, Russell shares more about his early years with the business and his culinary journey before striking out on his own. He also talks about all of the specialty donuts he has available and his favorite barbecue item on the menu. Please follow our Florida Foodie hosts on social media. recording artist, John Blangero, has made for himself. One listen to his soulful album, “Delta Tales” by alter-ego Sun King Rising will make the oddness of that pairing seem almost normal. Neither his music nor his work as a renowned genetic scientist are strange at all, it turns out. Call it “The Genetics of Soul.” Blangero quickly displayed prodigious musical gifts when he started taking piano lessons at age five in his hometown of New Castle, Pennsylvania. Five years later, he had absorbed not only the fundamentals of classical music, but also gospel and rock music. He joined his first rock band at 14 and was soon composing and singing his own music. Apprenticeships in a series of area bands culminated in the formation of his own original band, called Harlequin, with which he attained regional popularity throughout the fertile Pennsylvania/Ohio/West Virginia market At the height of the band's popularity, though, he put music on the back burner to obtain his Ph.D. and become an active biomedical research scientist. During his twenty-year musical hiatus, he ascended to rock star stature in the international scientific community. But the music lying dormant within Blangero's spirit would not remain silent. Playing casually with blues bands in San Antonio toward the end of the 21st century rekindled Blangero's creative spark and prompted him to begin writing new songs. PeacockSunrise Records ● A division of Melodic Revolution Records 1065 E State Rd 434 ● Box 5133 ● Winter Springs, Florida ● 32708 Throughout its production, Blangero continued his work at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley while living in Port Isabel, TX. He and his colleagues at the University and throughout the world worked tirelessly on the genetics of human response to COVID-19 infection. That he was able to concurrently record the album is a powerful testament to Blangero's amazing mind and talent. PeacockSunrise president, Nick Katona, recalls, “When I first heard John's material, I thought ‘Oh my God, this music is amazing.' I told him ‘You have got to release these songs. You've got to be on our label.” Blangero and Katona decided to focus their early marketing efforts on the U.K. and Europe during the first half of 2020. A big radio push and full-page ads in major music magazines like Classic Rock, RnR, Relix, and others resulted in many 4 and 5-star reviews, interviews, radio airplay, and massive Spotify streams. For the second half of this year, they are turning their attention to North and South America and to Sun King Rising's second album. Plans are to record the second album in late Fall or early Winter, followed by live tours and festivals around the world on the heels of its Spring 2022 release. On this week's Podcast, Laurie interviewed Pastor Roger Diaz from Fellowship Church in Winter Springs, Florida about the recent Barna Research Group poll that saw a 50% decline in young evangelical Christian support for Israel. Laurie and Pastor Diaz discussed the results of survey and the impact it poses to future U.S./Israel relations in the next 10 years and how we must reach this next generation of evangelicals about their biblical responsibility to stand with our Jewish brethren and Israel against the rise of global antisemitism.A native of the Caribbean Island of Trinidad and Tobago, Pastor Roger Diaz moved to Central Florida in 1984. Soon after he gave his heart to the Lord in 1991, God called him to Fellowship Church where he committed himself to the work of ministry, seeking where he might be most effective. In 1996, God called him to be a pastor/teacher. In preparation for this service, he led the discipleship ministry, oversaw a home school co-op, taught the Tzemach Institute Bible Survey Course in Deland, Fla., and developed and taught a Sunday morning Bible Study curriculum. In 2002 he was ordained as an elder.

We're aware that not everyone has been riding the IPA train as hard as we have been for the last few years but for the majority of the last decade, Untappd has been ruled by the IPA. Your grocery shelves are full of them, your bottle shops have a variety of new ones, and your local brewer (probably) always has one on tap. On this episode of Drinking Socially we're discussing the I Believe in IPA badge while drinking General Braddock's from Brew Gentlemen. We also highlight The Can & Bottle Beer Shoppe in Winter Springs, FL. Drinking Socially is Untappd's Craft Beer Podcast. Your inside look into what's happening in the Untappd community and the world of beer. Have questions, want to be a guest on the podcast, or just want to say hello? Email podcasts@untappd.com.

Teri Netterville and Denise Arthur are quite impressed with 12-year old Zechariah Cartledge of Winter Springs, Florida, who has been running a mile for every one of our fallen police officers while carrying the “thin blue line” American flag. He then sends the flag to the family of the fallen officer. But Instagram, in all of its intolerant, liberal behaviors towards our law enforcement personnel, took down Zechariah’s Instagram Page where he had been recording each of his tributes.

Only five weeks left until I start my pilgrimage to walk the Camino de Santiago. In preparation, this week, I’m practicing an ancient tradition of praying with prayer beads. The subject of my praying this week is each of the twenty-two Pilgrims, by name, who will be on the walk with me, as well as the twelve pilgrims who will be traveling in a second group and seeing grant sites in the same areas of Spain. I’m also praying for Bishop Lozano (the Bishop of Spain) and Canon Spencer Reese, (the Canon to the Ordinary to Bishop Lozano) who will be joining us for portions of the trip.I’ve gotten a number of Anglican prayer beads from Unspoken Elements, a company in Winter Springs, FL. I like their explanation of the history of the prayer beads as well as how many different ways they can be used for prayer with their 33 beads. Some people may repeat the Jesus Prayer (Lord Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner), or others may use different prayers. This week I pray for 34 pilgrims (including me!) that each of our journeys is unique and that we are open to God’s work in our lives. Here is information from the Resource Guide from Unspoken Elements: Why Pray with Beads? The simple act of using Anglican Prayer Beads can deepen and transform our devotions into a richer spiritual experience. Praying with beads provides a tactile way to slow down our busy lives, becoming more focused in the moment while meditating upon our prayers. A rosary helps us take the time to notice what we are doing, feeling and thinking at the time we are actually doing, feeling, and thinking it by slowing down these processes bead by bead, or one prayer at a time. God is part of our everyday lives; paying attention to God and focusing on God’s kingdom is a fundamental practice of Christian mindfulness.May you be blessed by the prayers of others and may your prayers in turn bless those that you name outloud.Blessings, my friend,Agatha

I’m baaack. This is your high school wrestling update from the Orlando Sentinel for Monday, January 29, 2018 – My name is Brant Parsons – and my podcast did not win a Grammy last night. We’ve hit the stretch run of the season and this past weekend gave us a showcase of big I-B-Ts. Take a big inhale – and let’s go. Let’s start with the Tri-County Invitational at Olympic Heights that saw Fleming Island come in and show the “tri-counties” how it’s done. The Golden Eagles outscored runner-up Miami Columbus by 100 points. Louis Gagliardo, Briar Jackson, Paul Detwiler and Ryan Smenda all won titles for the second-ranked team in Class 3A. The top five was filled with top-10 3A teams with Southwest Miami, Hagerty and Wellington going 3-through-5. South Dade, the top-ranked team in 3A, took its dual show on the road and dominated the North Bay Haven Bash, giving up just 27 points in 8 duals. Palm Harbor University – No. 3 in 3A – took home the title at the Live Greco Invitational ahead of Riverview and Kissimmee Osceola. Lake Gibson, the top-ranked 2A team was off, while No. 2 Riverdale made more history in Southwest Florida. The Raiders won their 14th consecutive Lee County title, nearly doubling the point total of runner-up Ft. Myers. Are you keeping up with all of this? There will be a quiz at the end. The top team in 1A was off too with second-ranked Clay winning the crown at the Flagler Rotary tournament. Springstead, Winter Springs, Palm Coast and Wakulla rounded out the top five. Somerset was the top team at George Jenkins, turning a big semifinal round where the Panthers went 6-0 into the first IBT title of the season. Cardinal Gibbons won another B-C-A-A title, outdistancing Cypress Bay and St. Thomas for the crown. And now the home stretch… Other winners this weekend were Brandon at Diamondback Duals, Mulberry at the Charlie Dart Invitational, Venice at the Venice Duals, American Heritage Delray Beach at Eaglemania Duals and Atlantic Coast at Terry Parker Duals. Locally, Apopka rode five individual champions to the title at the Wolfpack Invitational and Oviedo won the school’s first tournament in over 7 years with a win at Ships and Duels at Palm Bay. And I lied, I’m too tired for a quiz but you can check out the results from all of these tournaments and more at OrlandoSentinel.com/wrestling. Welcome to show number 70!!! Blalalalalala! Aw man, doesn't feel the same. Anyway, we recap our weekend to start things off. We visited the Red Cypress Brewery in Winter Springs. Great beers, awesome hangout place. Try it out if you're in the area. We also break down the tiers of trailer parks. Surprisingly not just poor people own them. Our second segment was almost entirely dick talk. What else would we talk about? Length, width, girth, you name it. To round things out we discuss weird cashier conversations. We've all had this happen to us. Its inevitable. This week we lost a fast food great, Bojangles (who Zack has a history with). We finish it up with some failed business talk the get f*ck out. Thanks to all those that listen and download! We will see you next week!
