S2E48 - For the Glory KC is back with the 55th episode of the show! On this week's episode, Sporting Kansas City don't play a game, so instead we take the opportunity to look at their roster and play Fantasy Sporting Director. Imagine if Sporting KC's ownership put us in charge of roster decisions. We decided who to re-sign, who to cut and who's option(s) to decline. Additionally, we both get the chance to buy out one Sporting KC player's contract to save the salary room and get them off the books (and the roster). And finally, we decide what positions are of the biggest need at this moment. There are a lot of easy choices on who to bring back but, but a couple of very tough decisions. Sheena has a bit more of a heart, but in the ruthless business of sports, I act accordingly. You'll probably want to look at all the contracts and salaries to know if we made the right choices. We also talk about Sporting KC's season ending awards, who we voted for, and who actually won. Not to be left out, the KC Current battled back to earn a 2-2 draw against NJ/NY Gotham and to secure the 4th overall pick in the 2024 NWSL College Draft. And of course, the Digital Crawl, y'all! We dive into the following topics: Gadi Kinda's International games were cancelled. The United States U-23s Won! MLS 22 Under 22 snubbed Jake Davis. Austin FC 2, who eliminated SKC II, are in the MLS Next Pro finals. And the San Diego Wave win the NWSL Shield! The NWSL Expansion Draft and the 2022 NWSL College Draft delivered some big trades and major surprises, along with controversy as well. I guess you could say there was a little bit of everything. Rachael Kriger joins Sean and Erik to discuss the big happenings, the trades, some of the players drafted, and also the controversy that ensued afterward involving the Portland Thorns as well. Not to mention, the news of NWSL now taking on United States Women's National Team salaries and the NWSL schedule framework too. Major League Soccer also ushered in a new team in Charlotte FC and they had an Expansion Draft as well, although trades made it to where they actually wound up only picking three players ultimately. But on the bright side, a largely MLS-based squad helped the United States Men's National Team get to 17 wins on the year with a 1-0 over Bosnia Herzegovina. Although the game wasn't much to talk about, Jordan Morris certainly had some nice moments at least. Also, USMNT players could be on the move in the January Transfer Window with Barcelona looking to move Serginio Dest, but actually want Christian Pulisic? Would it be a good fit for him in Barcelona? What about Ricardo Pepi at Atletico Madrid? And could Weston McKennie join Tottenham too?

In today's episode, I interview meditation teacher and former professional soccer player Sam Lofton. I first met Sam playing with the Portland Thorns. We bonded over the fact that we were both obsessed with finding (often unconventional) ways to maximize our performance on the field and off. Sam played soccer and studied Health Science with a pre-med track at James Madison University. After college, she was picked 20th overall in the 2015 NWSL College Draft by the Boston Breakers, making her the first James Madison University player ever to be drafted by a NWSL team. In 2016, she played for the Portland Thorns. She also played overseas in Sweden for Sunnana SK and in Iceland for Breiðablik UBK. While playing professionally, Sam discovered meditation and it changed her life. Through her business “Meditation by Sam” {https://www.meditationbysam.com/sign-up-control-and-create )she teaches athletes how to gain control of their minds and their lives. In this episode Sam talks about: -her all-time favorite hacks for improving performance -how meditation helped her be confident playing against Tobin Heath -why visualizing is so powerful for athletes specifically -tips if you are a beginner meditator -common misconceptions about mindfulness And, she guides us through a quick meditation! You'll walk away from this episode feeling the zen.
