It was such a great conversation, I was honored that she opened up so eloquently about her unconvential journey to the NWSL, so be sure to check it out!The 6 Unsung NWSL Stars Dominating the 2026 SeasonWhy Portland Thorns, Washington Spirit and San Diego Wave are NWSL Top Dogs
On today's MUST-listen episode, Liam is joined by Cameron Brooks, one of the newest signings for the North Carolina Courage and one of the most inspiring stories in women's soccer right now.In this engaging discussion, Cameron reflects on her journey: from starring at the University of Texas alongside future professional and international players like Holly Ward, Emma Regan, and Trinity Byars, to suffering a devastating ACL injury after college that forced her to navigate rehab independently while working multiple jobs to continue chasing her dream of becoming a professional footballer.Cameron opens up about moving overseas to Spain, training with the academies of the Portland Thorns and San Diego Wave, working at a gym in New York City for access to equipment, and continuing her development with Brooklyn FC's boys academy and the Long Island Rough Riders before eventually signing her first professional contract with Fort Lauderdale United ahead of the inaugural Gainbridge Super League season. The conversation also dives into her breakout rookie campaign with Fort Lauderdale United, the club's run to the playoffs, and how her move overseas to Napoli Femminile helped elevate both her technical ability and mentality in possession-based systems.Lastly, Cameron also discusses why the Courage project under Mak Lind appealed to her, how preseason has gone with so many new faces in the squad, the goals she has for the 2026 NWSL season, and so much more!Thank you all for listening! The Orlando Pride stayed on the road, which is usually a recipe for disaster. But instead of suffering a second straight multi-goal loss, the Pride rose to the occasion, played with grit and determination, and beat the then-first-place San Diego Wave 1-0 on the road. While Orlando has been adept at getting results in California in the past, there was no reason to expect an injury-plagued, reeling team to look like it was back in 2024, refusing to lose. We break down the Pride's big road win and how it could be a sign that the club has figured things out, look back at our score predictions, and make our selections for Player of the Match. This week's mailbagbox asked about why this Orlando Pride team can't be normal, what if the team had been healthy all season, and more. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. You can use that same hashtag and hit @TheManeLand.bsky.social up on Bluesky. Or you can visit our show page, scroll down, and fill out the handy form. We'd also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we'll find them easily and read them on the show. After the mailbagbox, we look ahead to Friday's final game before the break as Bay FC comes to Orlando. We look back at the limited series history between the two clubs, provide our key matchups, and make our final score predictions. If you'd like to support our independent writing and podcasting efforts, we'd love to have you as a subscriber or donor over at our Buy Me a Coffee site. Here's how Episode 124 went down:0:15 – Orlando continued its road trip and found a way to finish it on a high note.14:56 - The mailbagbox is not sure what to make of this year's Pride team.27:14 - Bay FC visits on Friday and we'll see if the Pride can build on the win at San Diego or if it was a moment of magic.

Welcome to the Orange & Blueprints Podcast - your go-to spot for everything Houston Dash and women's soccer in the Bayou City!Manny and Diego are back to break down the Houston Dash's wild midweek clash against San Diego Wave. In a bizarre match, San Diego's goalkeeper struggles helped Houston stay alive and find goals, turning what seemed like an unlikely result into a potential statement win. But just when it looked like the Dash would walk away with all three points, San Diego struck deep into added time to force a dramatic 2-2 draw. The episode also highlights rookie Kate Faasse opening her scoring account for Houston, while Kat Rader continued her impressive start to her first season with the club. Now, the Dash turn their attention to Angel City, whom they'll face for the second time in 2026 — this time at Shell Energy Stadium. Manny and Diego preview the matchup, discuss key storylines, and give their predictions for how the contest could unfold. From roster chatter and league-wide storylines to big-picture Dash talk, we've got you covered. Lisa Carlin, alongside Sandra Herrera and McCall Zerboni, is live for the latest edition of Attacking Third! The crew recaps the CONCACAF W Cup with reigning champions Gotham FC knocked out by Club América! What went wrong for Gotham? In the other semifinal, Washington Spirit earned a huge victory over Pachuca. Who is going to win the final? Then, we shift our focus to the Champions League Final this Saturday, May 23!
The Orlando Pride suffered through a miserable week on the road, losing to both 2026 NWSL expansion teams — Boston Legacy FC and Denver Summit FC — conceding penalties in each match, continuing to get no goals in the run of play by anyone not named Barbra Banda, and sustaining even more injuries. We discuss the two losses, look back at our score predictions, make our selections for Player of the Match for each game, and try to figure out what is going on with the midfield and how some players who showed such promise in 2024 no longer look like the same people out there on the pitch. We're not ruling out an Invasion of the Body Snatchers scenario. This week's mailbagbox asked about Kerry Abello firing off a flip throw in her return from injury, what area of need Caitlin Carducci most needs to address to help the Pride, and more. After the mailbagbox, we look ahead to the team's upcoming trip to San Diego to play the Wave. Although the California sun has been kind to the Pride the last few years, the 2026 squad seems far too out of sorts to compete with a team that beat Washington despite not having some of its key players. But you never know what might happen when soccer boot meets soccer ball.We look at the series history, discuss the teams' places in the league, provide our key matchups, and make our final score predictions. If you'd like to support our independent writing and podcasting efforts, we'd love to have you as a subscriber or donor over at our Buy Me a Coffee site. Here's how Episode 123 went down:0:15 – Orlando went on the road, suffered more injuries, and got swept by the two NWSL expansion teams in an awful week.20:18 - The mailbagbox is quite smitten with Kerry Abello's flip throw, and who could blame it?31:57 - The Pride go back on the road to face the San Diego Wave, the league's best team at the moment.
BTG is back with an all new episode! This week Sierra and Maya interview Maddie Pogarch, a former NWSL player for the Utah Royals, Portland Thorns and the San Diego Wave. She currently player overseas in Damallsvenskan for the club Hammarby. This episode is amazingly vulnerable and is jam packed with so many good takeaways! Enjoy!
Look, let's keep it 100—the last week has been a disaster. Dropping back-to-back games to first-year expansion teams Boston Legacy FC and Denver Summit FC is flat-out unacceptable for a squad with this much talent.
It never ends! OSG and Dani review a really bad loss at Kansas City Current and go through Houston's abysmal form as they are winless and scoreless from open play in the last five matches. For decades, San Diego has been a hotbed of soccer, but mostly the indoor kind. The San Diego Sockers have captured multiple championships in the MISL and MASL, but outdoor soccer was merely a plausible project. The short-lived success of the San Diego Loyal in the USL bred the fertile grounds for the San Diego Wave in NWSL and the firestorm first season for San Diego FC. Already SDFC have set seismic records in MLS, capturing the Western Conference crown in their first season. However, the second season has started with a bit of reality—Hirving Lozano's backstage fiascos have sidelined him, causing a drag on the team's momentum, and injuries have pulled SDFC closer to the bottom of the table. As FC Cincinnati prepares for their first trip to "America's Finest City", we sit down with Craig Elsten, one of San Diego's most experienced play-by-play men and podcaster for The Chromaniacs. How has the city embraced SDFC after the Loyal's rise and fall? What worked so well for SDFC in the inaugural season, and how can that magic be replicated on Saturday? In today's episode, LDG breaks down the trio of teams, that among the early leaders in the NWSL season, have proven themselves to be above the rest: the Portland Thorns, Washington Spirit, and San Diego Wave. On the surface, these teams are delivering good performances through victories and points, but what makes their approach unique is the method by which they are achieving such success. In this episode, LDG examines the various identities that are emerging among the league leaders, including the new balance found in Portland, the offensive fireworks provided by Washington, and the defensive organization of San Diego.LDG explores the tactics behind these clubs, including the key players and statistics contributing to their current successes, and examine the reason for their emergence as potential standard-bearers of the NWSL. However, the overarching question here remains: is this the dawn of a new era, or just the form of the early season period?LDG digs deep into what has been motivating each team beyond mere results. In the case of Portland, it is the development of their midfield players as well as a tactical approach to attack that is more fluid and adaptable than ever before. As for Washington, it is the pairing of world-class player quality with an extremely fast-paced game that utilizes its vertical strength to generate high-quality scoring opportunities. Lastly, it is the tactical cohesion of San Diego's defense and ball control that makes them a nightmare for any opponent looking to find a way past them.Thank you for listening! For the Glory KC is back with the 167th episode of the show!Sporting Kansas City finally did it! They made a signing that everyone expects to be a starter. Lasse Berg Johnsen joins from Malmo in Sweden and should immediately be penciled into the defensive midfielder role when his P-1 visa arrives. We break down the signing and how he'll fit next to Manu Garcia. The majority of this week's episode is focused on the two big preseason wins for Sporting KC. They finished 3-3-0 in preseason, a three game and five goal improvement over the 2025 preseason. Sure, against NYCFC it was a win over backups, but that Austin FC game was a starting lineup that got beaten on before some late red cards let the game get out of hand. Rapha Wicky seemed none too happy with Austin's violent fouls that led to cards either. The results of the games made it look like Wicky's system just needed a little more time to take hold (or maybe they just needed to not be playing Minnesota United). Regardless, there were plenty of positives to take away and I even took a shot at predicting who should start this weekend against the Quakes. In this episode I also spent time on the multiple rumors for Sporting KC this past week, SKC adding to their front office, Forbes' MLS valuations, Nemanja Radoja's new landing spot, SKC II signings and some former KC player updates. The KC Current made big headlines this week too. Some for good reasons and others that weren't quite so good. The team traded Claire Hutton, one of the best young players in the world. Then they immediately added another young star in Croix Bethune. That, plus the 1-1 draw against San Diego in preseason. In the Digital Crawl, we hit on a few more topics, including:KS Astras keep winningCatarina Macario to the San Diego Wave? Here is a rundown of topics and start times:Sporting KC - 0:00KC Current - 33:44Digital Crawl - 41:57As a special gift to For the Glory KC listeners and KC Soccer Journal readers, Backheeled dot com is giving away 30 days of their amazing, independent American soccer coverage for free. In this episode, LDG looks over the 15 biggest NWSL moves made during the chaotic few months since the off-season transfer window kicked into gear! He categorizes each move into three categories (good, great, gasped with awe) and shares everything you need to know about the move from the perspective of both clubs and the player. He analyzes signings like Lindsey Heaps to Denver Summit, Sophia Wilson to Portland Thorns, Delphine Cascarino to the London City Lionesses, Ludmila to the San Diego Wave, and many more! The conversation is a must-listen episode if you want to understand how these moves will affect your team, the players involved, and how LDG thinks these players will fit into their new sides.ICYMI: We previewed everything to watch out for in the women's soccer world in 2026. For the Glory KC is back with the 152nd episode of the show!Sporting Kansas City's 2025 MLS season is over and we're in that news lull where it's unclear if anything major is going to happen anytime soon. That said, we have a ton of tiny Sporting KC stories that could easily fall through the cracks if you aren't on social media. Before we get to that, if you haven't yet, please take our survey on the Sporting KC 2025 MLS season! They also basically did it without Bia, who went down injured as well. We have updates on both of those injuries and a preview of the opening playoff series with Gotham FC.Beyond that, we look back at the Kansas City Current's remarkable season, talk about Temwa lifting another Golden Boot trophy, share out thoughts on Lo LaBonta re-signing with the team and her time with the USWNT and much more. It's an episode of many, many tiny stories about SKC and the Current. For the Glory KC is back with the 151st episode of the show!Sporting Kansas City's 2025 MLS season has mercifully come to an end. On a points per game basis, it was the worst season in team history. This past week brought about the biggest series of offseason changes in recent memory. Of the 17 players David Lee and his staff had to decide on, only four are guaranteed to be back in 2026 (with ongoing negotiations with two more). As things stand today, there are just 12 players on the roster.Sheena and I work our way through all of the Sporting KC players whose options were declined, whose loans were not picked up and who are simply out of contract and not in negotiations to return. There were some names, like Erik Thommy and Logan Ndenbe, that fans took harder than others. All of this should lead to a busy offseason since Lee has room to add up to 18 players to the roster.Beyond the roster moves and subsequent press conference, Sporting KC made other news around the US Open Cup, the MLS SuperDraft, coaching moves and an international call-up. We even spend a few minutes on the Decision Day snoozer between SKC and the Houston Dynamo and the upcoming MLS offseason schedule. The KC Current had a pretty terrible week too, primarily because of the injury to Temwa Chawinga. They also happened to lose a meaningless game to the Houston Dash, but that paled in comparison to the injury news. There was some positive news around the Current with numerous international call-ups and the expansion of their Academy setup. In the Digital Crawl, we hit on a few more topics, including:KC Comets newsThe United States are bidding to co-host the 2031 Women's World CupLots of USMNT/USWNT results and newsand a big overall of Men's College soccerHere is a rundown of topics and start times:Sporting KC are down to just 12 players after cuts - 7:31David Lee gives insight into the next couple months - 56:23SKC Round-up (including US Open Cup & finale results) - 1:14:15MLS and SKC Offseason Schedule - 1:32:55Bad news for the KC Current - 1:37:33Digital Crawl - 1:50:49Upcoming GamesUSWNT vs. Portugal, Sun.
