To celebrate the start of the World Cup, we've got a very special episode hosted by Tierna Davidson - a soccer player for the US Women's National Team and Gotham FC, and a World Cup winner and Olympic gold medalist. We're sharing three stories about soccer, but about everything around soccer, too – the competition, the sense of community, the feeling of discovery you get when you push yourself. Storytellers: As an effeminate queer kid, Patrick McGraw learned to associate sports with the bullies at school. As an adult, Patrick decided to join an inclusive soccer league and reclaim his love of sports. Moniek van Rheenen is taught by her soccer coach to be a mean player, and learns a valuable lesson when the coach leaves the team. Franco Catalano's excitement grows as Argentina advances through the World Cup. Did Gotham FC Just Win the NWSL Transfer Window? | Sam Kerr Returns & Lilly Reale Traded

Sam Kerr is back in the NWSL.In perhaps one of the craziest days of NWSL summer transfer window, Gotham FC reunited with one of the greatest goalscorers in league history while trading last season's Rookie of the Year Lilly Reale to Boston Legacy FC. At first glance, they may seem like two separate moves but together, they reveal exactly how Gotham views its championship window. In this episode, LDG break downs why Gotham brought Sam Kerr back to the club where she became an NWSL superstar, what the move means tactically under Juan Carlos Amorós, whether Kerr can still be one of the league's elite forwards after returning from injury, and why the club was willing to move on from one of the brightest young defenders in American soccer.LDG also dives into what Lilly Reale's departure means for both Gotham FC and Boston Legacy FC, whether the reported $400,000 deal was enough value, and the bigger question at the heart of these moves: did Gotham just make the smartest decision of the transfer window, or mortgage part of its future in pursuit of another championship?Thank you all for listening! The Giants can move past the Jaxson Dart controversy quickly if the locker room keeps frustrations internal, but the cost is proving this young team can handle pressure without letting every disagreement become a public problem.Follow on Spotify and leave a 5-star rating on Apple Podcasts if you enjoy no-BS Giants debate.Did the Giants actually move past the Jaxson Dart locker-room issue? The answer depends on whether the leaders who spoke up — Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Jameis Winston — turn that meeting into a reset instead of another storyline. The episode starts with the reported Giants meeting where Jaxson Dart addressed teammates after introducing President Trump. Drew and Rob talk through whether this was just an awkward headline that needed to be handled internally, or whether it was the first real leadership test for Dart and the John Harbaugh-era locker room. The conversation also covers Abdul Carter missing the meeting for Eid al-Adha and why that should not become cheap blame if Dart and Carter already handled things privately. Is this story actually over, or just quieter?Andrew Thomas restructuring his contract becomes the next major Giants topic. The guys explain why the added cap space matters, why Arvell Reese's rookie deal still affects the real number, and why this move is more likely about injury flexibility and cutdown-day roster moves than a splashy Odell Beckham Jr. return.Did the Giants just create useful breathing room, or are fans reading too much into a basic cap move? The OTA conversation focuses on D.J. Reader, Dru Phillips, and Patrick Ricard returning to the field, while also keeping expectations realistic because spring practices without pads only reveal so much. The defensive line depth concern gets real after the Roy Robertson-Harris injury, Shelby Harris' absence, and the basic truth that NFL injuries are going to keep coming.J.C. Davis becomes the offensive line debate of the episode. Bret Bielema praised his ability to play all four guard and tackle spots, while Drew pushes back and says the tape looks more like guard. John Harbaugh's comments also point to a swing guard/tackle role, raising the question of whether Davis is a future left guard, a real utility lineman, or another Giants guard/tackle project that could become risky behind Andrew Thomas. The episode closes with one of the better Giants stories of the offseason: Tom Coughlin, Eli Manning, John Harbaugh, Shaun O'Hara, and Gotham FC going full Mario Kart for the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation. Coughlin as Mario, Eli as Luigi, Harbaugh as Yoshi, and Shaun O'Hara as Donkey Kong made for a fun visual, but the real story is the charity work for families facing childhood cancer.Merch: https://2giantgoofballs-shop.fourthwall.com/Support: https://buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsAll episodes: https://2giantgoofballs.buzzsprout.com/Send us Fan MailSupport the show

This week, London is the stage for the third edition of World Sevens Football, the pioneering 7-a-side women's football competition, and Co-Founders Jennifer Mackesy and Julie Uhrman broke into preparations to join David Cushnan in the studio to discuss the concept and its creation. Eight WSL clubs will compete at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium for a prize pot of $1.5 million. Mackesy, who has led the investment in World Sevens, which launched with two events last year, is also a minority owner of Chelsea Women and NWSL club Gotham FC. Uhrman, Co-Founder and President of Angel City FC over the past few years, and now a special advisor at the NWSL club, is this week making her public debut as Co-Founder. On the show, they assess the current health of women's football and deliver a message to sceptics who doubt its business sustainability. They also explain the entertainment-infused mission behind World Sevens; its unique format; how clubs have been convinced to participate; the player buy-in that is critical to its success; and the way the tournaments can work as part of the existing and increasingly crowded club football calendar.   ----- Nominate the rising star in your organisation for this year's Leaders Under 40 class - entries close on Monday 8th June. It was a long, difficult road trip, but the Orlando Pride return to the City Beautiful with four out of a possible six points after a dominant win over the Chicago Stars and a scoreless draw against defending champion Gotham FC. The Pride have played well this season but started slowly in front of goal. But now the team has put together three consecutive results, and with a little better final product, this is a team that can cook.We look back at the excellent performance at Chicago, as Jacquie Ovalle twinkled among the Stars, Barbra Banda kept burning bright, and Hannah Anderson went supernova on her old team. (Have I exhausted the star puns yet? I admit to nothing.) We look back at our score predictions and select our Player of the Match. We didn't have any goals to break down from the Gotham match, but we discussed the difficulty of staying on the road for a second game, the physicality of how Gotham FC defends Banda, and the joy of keeping a second straight clean sheet. Plus, a look back at our predictions (correct result, incorrect score) and our Player of the Match vote is split. Our mailbagbox had questions about unused substitutions, Julie Doyle's hair, and more. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. We'd also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we'll find them easily and read them on the show. Finally, we looked ahead to Friday's visit from Angel City, including former Pride favorite Emily Sams, who turned heel this off-season and shuffled off to Southern California. She might get a warm reception from the crowd, but hopefully the Pride attacking players will be less forgiving. We look at the series history, the teams' relative places in the table, and some of the visitors' key players. We also provide our key matchups and try to predict the final score. If you'd like to support our independent writing and podcasting efforts, we'd love to have you as a subscriber or donor over at our Buy Me a Coffee site. Here's how Episode 117 went down:0:15 – Two game recaps, as the Pride had a busy week on tour.14:31 - Mailbagbox says its time for Doyle to re-adopt the buns.26:45 - The tale of the tape as Angel City searches for its first loss of the NWSL season. Why are they so important to the evolving soccer culture in the US, in women's soccer, + the NWSL specifically, and what does Cloud 9 do on a day-to-day basis, but also to push the sport forward through advocacy outside of cheering on Gotham for 90 minutes? In this episode, LDG asks these questions and is honored to be joined by the two people who can answer them best, Cloud 9 members Nat and Marge!LDG, Marge, and Nat go behind the scenes of Cloud 9, as three members of Gotham's official supporters' group, and delve into the passion and community that make the match-day atmosphere at Red Bull Arena, wait, Sports Illustrated Stadium so electric.Nat and Marge open up about what it means for them personally to be part of the supporter group Cloud 9 and walk us through what a match day looks like behind the drums, the tifos, the banners, and the chants, breaking down their roles in the match-day atmosphere.LDG also shares his experience as a Cloud 9 member, carrying the iconic torch ahead of a match last season on the pitch, and participating in the Cloud 9 Prideraiser for the Ali Forney Center. We also dispel some of the biggest myths about supporters' groups, especially for those who have attended matches but are unsure of what being part of the supporters' group really entails. Finally, we reflect on Gotham FC's journey from the old Sky Blue days at Yurcak Field to becoming one of the most successful teams in the league, and what the team has done to maintain its identity and success on the field. This conversation gives you an inside look at what makes Cloud 9 such an integral part of the Gotham culture, highlighting the people who helped turn a soccer club into something much bigger.Thank you for listening! What happens when the career you built no longer fits the life you're living? In this powerful season finale of Claim Your Confidence, Lydia Fenet sits down with Emily Tisch Sussman, political strategist, media commentator, co-owner of Gotham FC, and host of She Pivots, for a candid conversation about reinvention, identity, and what it really takes to rebuild confidence from the ground up.Emily's story is anything but linear. From working on presidential campaigns and shaping national policy to becoming a familiar face on cable news, she built a career many would consider the pinnacle of success. But behind the scenes, burnout, motherhood, and a shifting sense of purpose forced her to ask a difficult question: Is this still the life I want? What follows is a masterclass in redefining success. In this episode, Emily shares how stepping away from a high-profile career led her to her most meaningful work yet—creating platforms that elevate women's voices, investing in women's sports before the cultural wave hit, and building a podcast centered on the power of the pivot. This conversation is honest, funny, and deeply relatable—especially for anyone navigating change, questioning their path, or wondering if it's too late to start again.Because as Emily proves, sometimes the most powerful move you can make… is a pivot. In this episode, you'll hear:Why confidence isn't built in the spotlight, but in the unseen work behind itThe identity shift that comes with motherhood, and how to navigate itWhat it really takes to walk away from a successful careerThe surprising freedom that comes when you stop fearing judgmentHow women's sports, and investing in them early, became a game-changing opportunityThe inspiration behind She Pivots and why stories of reinvention matter more than everKey Takeaway:Confidence doesn't come from staying the course—it comes from having the courage to change it.Follow & Listen:Follow  and tune in to She Pivots for more stories of reinvention, and don't miss Emily's latest season launching soon. And as always—remember: confidence is the key… and this is where you claim it.Follow Lydia:www.lydiafenet.comIG: @lydiafenetLinkedIn: Lydia FenetQuestions or comments, we'd love to hear from you...send us a text!Record a question here so we can answer it on the next episode of Claim Your Confidence. To stay up to date with Claim Your Confidence and get all the behind-the-scenes content, follow us on Instagram and on YouTube. If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe and leave a rating and review on Apple or Spotify or where ever you get your podcasts.Recorded at The Newsstand Studios at Rockefeller Center.Thank you for listening.

In this episode, LDG breaks down every club's roster and chances this season ahead of the 2026 NWSL season. From offseason moves and key returning stars to tactical questions and breakout candidates, LDG answers lingering questions after a hectic offseason, which saw numerous coaches and players switching clubs (the former of which had many moves that made little sense)Which teams are ready to contend for the top of the table? Who could surprise the league? And which clubs might be in for a rebuilding year? LDG goes through each of the 16 clubs to evaluate strengths, weaknesses, star players, and the biggest storylines that will shape the season, while answering all of these questions. Throughout the episode, I also predict each club's final table position, starting with my 16th-place side and working my way up to the clubs that I believe will be championship contenders. As stressful as predicting the table was, I'd love to hear your predictions ahead of the NWSL season, and I hope that you enjoyed this episode!Thank you for listening! In today's episode, LDG previews the Gotham FC 2026 NWSL season alongside Cloud 9 members Nat and Marge!Over the course of today's conversation, Nat, Marge and I talk about Gotham's incredible championship run and break down everything that's happened since the final whistle in San Jose and the NYC victory parade.First off, we'll look back at the rollercoaster ride that was last season, from making the playoffs on the goal differential tiebreaker to knocking off shield-winners KC Current and reigning champions Orlando Pride en route to winning the NWSL Championship against Washington. Then we'll react to the Jaedyn Shaw signing and what it means immediately for Gotham and what it could mean in the future.Next up, we dig into Gotham's offseason, talking about expectations and hopes we had going into the offseason, and what surprises occurred. We looked at the signings of NWSL veteran Sav McCaskill, rookies like Andrea Kitahata and Jordynn Dudley, as well as the importance of Midge Purce staying with the team and the re-signings of Kayla Duran and Katie Stengel. With every offseason, players also depart the club, and we talked about how those players' departures impact the club, specifically touching upon Ella Stevens and Josefine Hasbo moving to expansion side Boston Legacy, Gabi Portilho to San Diego Wave FC, and Stella Nyamekye to Brann. We then look ahead to the future and play a fun game, determining which three players whose contracts will expire beyond the 2026 season we would want the club to re-sign, with stars like Ann-Katrin Berger, Rose Lavelle, Jess Carter, and more included. To wrap up the episode, we bring back our classic 5-4-3-2-1 format as a series of quick questions that provide us with some predictions and wishes as we head into the new season.Thank you for listening! Could Antoine Griezmann really be headed to Orlando City SC — and if so, would he be the one player capable of challenging Lionel Messi for MLS supremacy? We kick things off by diving into the rumor, the fit, and what Griezmann's personality and playing style would mean for the league. Is this realistic, or just classic MLS chaos? Then NJ/NY Gotham FC defender Mandy Freeman joins the show. She reflects on Gotham's improbable championship run, the weight of expectations heading into the new season, and what it's like being a 10-year NWSL veteran who's seen the league evolve from host families and modest crowds to sold-out stadiums. Mandy also opens up about her love of fashion and gives a thoughtful critique of the NWSL's new High Impact Player rule — explaining why raising the ceiling doesn't necessarily raise the floor for players across the league.
