Yesterday was the one-year anniversary of the January 6th insurrection. While a lot of words were said, it remains to be seen whether the political will exists to defend democracy. Will we keep anti-majoritarian rules like the filibuster in place? Will we continue to support a Senate that grants disproportionate power to white, rural states and districts? What will this year's elections bring? COVID rages and it appears our institutions are pretty much throwing in the towel. In a what-the-what news…lightning increased dramatically around the North Pole. According to CNN, “Vaisala, an environmental monitoring company that tracks lightning around the world, reported 7,278 lightning strokes occurred last year north of 80 degrees latitude, nearly twice as many as the previous nine years combined.” The Pennsylvania Farm Show is this weekend! Don't want covid? Do go. It's that simple because masks and vaccination cards won't be required as Omicron is ripping the lands. Doug Mastriano is launching his campaign for Governor tomorrow. Get ready everybody. The Pennridge School District makes more moves to discriminate and whitewash history now that the extremists have full control of the board. The board ordered the removal of the book, Heather Has Two Mommies, due to its radical message that “it doesn't matter how many mommies or how many daddies your family has … the most important thing about a family is that all the people in it love each other.” Check out Cyril's interview with the book's author, Lesléa Newman, in his latest column. And then there's moves to prevent critical discussion on the one-year anniversary of the January 6th insurrection. Teachers were sent a note instructing them to “not wade into” discussion of January 6. Instead, they should stick to “business as usual.” We should recall that Bucks County had more people attend the insurrection than any other county - and the Pennridge School Board president, Joan Cullen, was one of them. Looks like the Executive Director of Upper Bucks County Technical School. Jeffrey Sweda, is being given the boot after the board overseeing the school's Joint Operating Committee charges him with “persistent negligence in the performance of his duties, willful neglect of duties, and/or willful failure to comply with school laws and directives.” The charges include buying a $999 log splitter for his personal use, stealing pavers from the school, cutting security cameras to the loading dock, abusing co-workers, and more. It's the first podcast of 2021 & I'm here with this week's Express Takes that I'll be covering. My thoughts on The Brodie Lee Tribute Show that took place on AEW Dynamite & why I feel it's among if not the best tribute show ever done for a wrestler. A full honest recap and my thoughts on WWE Monday Night Raw this week which was billed as "RAW Legends Night". I'll tell you why this came off as a failure for the most part in my opinion. I go over the number & ratings for WWE Friday Night SmackDown on FOX from New Year's Night & this week's Raw Legends Night Episode. The numbers are not surprising for both shows & you'll find out why that is. You'll get my picks for The NFL Wild Card Weekend that takes place this weekend across the league. The Pro Football Hall of Fame announces its 15 finalist for possible election. I break down those player and I give you my picks for enshrinement for the class of 2021. Some odd news to end the podcast you'll hear about a man suing a well known bakery company for something you'll not believe & also how people can take part doing a butter sculpture for The PA Farm Show & how you could be rewarded for it. I hope you're all doing well as we're into 2021. Sit back, grab a cold water, & enjoy Episode #120 of The GMTE Podcast. Thanks Everyone & Keep It In Full Drive!!! #Happy2021

To the Farm (Show) and Beyond This week's show features a bunch of songs and tunes that relate to farms and country life. Why country life when we're deep in the winter? It's an oblique nod in the direction of the PA Farm Show, a weeklong extravaganza that comes around every January. Years ago, when I lived in central PA, I thought it was something not to be missed – and even now, from a distance, its approach sets me thinking about farms and farmers and the way things have changed over the years.

The 2017 PA Farm Show Sharon Altland, Executive Director of the Farm Show Complex and Dave Smith, Executive Director of the PA Dairymen's Assn are my in studio guests.
With the 101st PA Farm Show just around the corner (it's scheduled to run between January 7 and 14 in Harrisburg), much of this week's Song Parlor show is related to music about farms and farm animals — though we've also saved a little time to consider the elephants. Relatively new CDs — Jim Kweskin & Geoff Muldaur, Lisa Null, Dan Schatz, Dave Gunning, the Bills, Evie Laden, the ARC CD with John Kirkpatrick on it, Sver . . . . Among the relatively recent: Pete, the Yellow Room Gang, Dana [!] & Susan Robinson, Charm City Junction. . .

In which for some unknown reason we sound muffled. (I did have a stuffy nose and sinuses, but Ellen was healthy so that's not the reason and I processed the file in the same manner, so that's not the reason. Urgh! Sometimes this podcasting stuff is hard! Well, you can still understand us, so you're getting it as it is.) And in which we discuss the cold (maybe that's it, we were wrapped in scarves and mufflers?), haunted barns (maybe a ghost is choking us?), idea weekends with ideas that Ellen can't share or she'd have to kill us (maybe she was smothering us with pillows?, but why would she smother herself?), a trip to DC with a stop at a new to me yarn shop (maybe I'm buried in yarn and fiber?), spinning and handling alpaca at the PA Farm Show (maybe an alpaca is sitting on us?), grilled cheese and tomato soup (maybe our mouths are full?), and Susan B. Anderson's new e-book, "Mary, Millie and Morgan" (that's it, those dolls are so cute you want to gobble them up...our mouths ARE full!).
