You’re listening to American Ground Radio with Louis R. Avallone and Stephen Parr. This is the full show for June 4, 2026. We open with a conversation about Congress's seemingly unlimited capacity for symbolism and its equally limited appetite for actual governance — prompted by the bill to rename the street in front of the Chinese embassy Tiananmen Square Memorial Boulevard. We love the trolling, we love the underlying principle, and we think every Chinese diplomat should have to write that address on their stationery every day. But we also note that the SAVE Act — which 70% of Americans support, including 69% of independents and nearly half of rank-and-file Democrats — is still sitting unactioned. You cannot tell us you can walk and chew gum at the same time if you're only blowing bubbles. In our Top 3 Things You Need to Know, President Trump announced he wants Acting Attorney General Todd Blanch to become the permanent AG — and after overseeing the indictment of James Comey and launching the National Fraud Enforcement Division, we think he's earned it. Then the federal government cut off Hawaii from Medicaid funding after decertifying its Medicaid Fraud Control Unit — a unit that received millions of dollars to fight fraud, produced zero criminal indictments between 2022 and 2025, and watched Medicaid enrollment explode by 40% in the same period. And water began flowing again into the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool — restored for an estimated $13 to $20 million, which is less than half of what the Obama administration spent on a failed repair project that left the pool just as dirty six months later. Our American Mama Teri Netterville responds to the Black Crows concert in Florida where the lead singer told a crowd chanting USA that he didn't understand why they were cheering for this country. Thousands walked out. Teri says she would have been one of them — and explains why the cultural fatigue is real and permanent now. We talk about why woke entertainment keeps failing at the box office, why Snow White bombed, why the all-lesbian Star Trek didn't survive one season, and why Americans are done pretending they'll tolerate being told their country is awful by the people it made wealthy. We dig into the Austin Metcalf murder trial — which CBS News and most of the media are calling the Carmelo Anthony trial, burying the name of the murdered boy seven paragraphs down. We explain why the jury ended up without any Black members — and the answer, straight from CBS News itself, is not that prosecutors were racist. It's that several prospective Black jurors admitted under oath they could not vote to convict a defendant who looked like them, or who looked like a kid, regardless of the evidence. One said he would have a hard time putting a brother in jail. We ask the question nobody wants to ask — if jurors in the other direction had said the same thing in reverse, what would happen? And we ask how many juries have had people on them who felt the same way but didn't say so out loud? The Senate voted to strip the SAVE Act from the reconciliation package — with four Republicans joining Democrats to kill it: Murkowski, McConnell, Tillis, and Collins. We explain why each of them voted the way they did, and we note that 81% of Americans support requiring voter ID and 80% want states to purge non-citizens from voter rolls. This is not a radical idea. It is the will of the American people, and four Republican senators just overruled it. For our Bright Spot, Senator John Fetterman — standing alone again among Senate Democrats — went on record calling out Maine Democrat Senate candidate Graham Plattner over the new revelations about his explicit messaging to women on a platform known for sexual predators. Fetterman said if you've already lied about the Nazi tattoo situation, there are probably a lot more ranches you haven't seen yet. We make the comparison to Alexander Hamilton's endorsement of Thomas Jefferson — I may disagree with his principles, but at least he has them. We also cover the Israel-Lebanon-Hezbollah ceasefire framework — and explain why the big if in that deal is Hezbollah, which has never wanted peace with Israel and still doesn't. And we close with Sterling Nassa, who was sitting in the audience at a live orchestra performance of La La Land in Sydney when the pianist came down ill at intermission. The conductor walked out and asked if anyone in the house could play. Sterling was a trained pianist and an accomplished sight reader. He walked up, sight read the second half of the concert, including a complicated piano solo, and saved the show. May your pursuit of happiness bring you joy. Quick recapThe Two Grumpy Bastards podcast returned after a break, with Koop and Russ discussing several major topics including the Henry Nowak murder case in Britain, where a Sikh immigrant stabbed a white man to death and was initially treated as a victim rather than a perpetrator by police, highlighting concerns about racial bias and immigration policies. They analyzed California's primary elections, noting that Republican Steve Hilton was leading in the governor's race against Democrat Xavier Becerra, representing a rare opportunity for Republicans in traditionally blue California. The conversation also covered the upcoming midterm elections, with Russ predicting a potential "reverse 2022" where Republicans might gain seats in the Senate and House despite expectations of a "blue wave." The podcast concluded with discussion of local issues including Spencer Pratt's surprising mayoral campaign in Los Angeles and concerns about homelessness and public safety in both California cities and their own communities.SummaryTrans Advocacy Online EngagementRuss and Koop discussed engaging with trans advocates online, specifically on Daily Wire's website where they encountered trolls defending a story about Oregon taking a child from a woman who wouldn't affirm the child's trans identity. Russ mentioned responding to these comments with a nuanced argument about state power abuse rather than using a sledgehammer approach. The conversation ended with Koop adjusting his camera settings.Sports Discussion and Health UpdateKoop discussed his recent illness, describing how severe it was and mentioning that he believes his medication dose was increased or he had a virus. The conversation then shifted to sports, with both participants discussing the Stanley Cup Finals between Vegas and the team Russ's team plays against, as well as the Seattle Kraken's poor performance season. They also discussed NFL teams, particularly the Rams' draft decisions and coaching styles in the NFC West, with specific criticism of Sean McVay's reaction to the draft choice.Discussion on Political and Personal InteractionsRuss and Koop discussed their interactions with Gareth, who had been criticizing Russ's military service. They shared personal anecdotes about Gareth's background and discussed how Gareth and others had responded to political discussions online. Koop also mentioned having a lengthy conversation with someone named Donya about family and personal beliefs, including information about Donya's children identifying as transgender. The conversation then shifted to Koop sharing details about his high school and college bands.Podcast Discussion on Political ViewsKoop and Russ began their podcast discussing their planned topics, including the Henry Nowak issue and California elections. They shared personal anecdotes about childhood TV shows and discussed their tans from recent vacations. Koop expressed his shift in political views, claiming that progressive values have moved from being "wrong" to "full-on evil," and mentioned his intention to discuss a recent horrific event in Britain involving the murder of Henry Nowak by an Indian Sikh.Murder Response and Racial HierarchiesRuss described the murder of Henry Nowak by Vikram Digwa in London, highlighting how police initially dismissed Nowak's claims of being stabbed and instead accepted Digwa's assertion that he was a victim of a racial attack. The incident has sparked protests in Southampton and political reactions, with the Reform Party criticizing immigration policies while Labour and Keir Starmer have defended the response and criticized the public reaction. Russ noted the double standard in how authorities responded to this incident compared to the George Floyd case, suggesting it reflects a new racial hierarchy in Britain where laws may apply differently based on skin color.Discussion on Race and HistoryKoop and Russ discussed a recent case in Texas where a young black man stabbed and killed a white student, with Koop expressing outrage that funds were raised for the perpetrator's defense. They compared this to the Henry Nowak case, where Koop described the violent nature of the attack as deliberate murder. The conversation then shifted to discussing British Prime Minister Starmer and historical British leadership, before transitioning to a discussion about the British Empire's role in ending slavery through naval patrols and its broader positive impact on civilization. Russ emphasized that Western freedoms, including free speech and self-defense rights, originated from British common law and traditions.Islamic Civilization and Western ProgressRuss and Koop discussed the historical advancement of Islamic civilizations from the 8th to 14th centuries before they fell into fundamentalism, which hindered further progress. They attributed the West's advancement to factors such as the Catholic Church's role in promoting science and outlawing cousin marriage, which helped increase genetic diversity. The conversation also touched on the complex geopolitical realities in Iran, highlighting how the overthrow of the Shah led to a more restrictive fundamentalist regime under Ayatollah Khomeini.Iran Treaty and Cultural DiscussionKoop and Russ discussed their frustration with Trump's handling of the Iran treaty and shared their views on strong British protests captured in recent footage. They also talked about cultural differences between Americans and Brits, respect for people living under constant stress, and upcoming movies about World War II. Koop shared his updated genetic ancestry results, revealing he is largely Lithuanian with a mix of German, Viking, Scottish, Russian, and other backgrounds.LA Mayor Election DiscussionKoop and Russ discussed political races, focusing primarily on the LA mayor's election where Spencer Pratt was leading with 29.9% of the vote against Karen Bass's 35.0%, with 38% of votes still outstanding. They debated whether Pratt could win against Bass in a runoff, comparing him to Tim Walz rather than Kamala Harris. The conversation also touched on the California governor's race but did not reach concrete conclusions about those results.California Gubernatorial Election AnalysisRuss and Koop discussed the California gubernatorial election, where Steve Hilton, a British transplant, is leading with 27.6% of the vote against Xavier Becerra. They analyzed the jungle primary system and its impact on Republican candidates, noting that no Republican has been competitive in California gubernatorial races for almost 20 years. The conversation touched on various candidates' performances and ended with a discussion about the disappointing 2022 midterm results for Republicans, which did not produce the anticipated "red wave."Midterm Elections Analysis DiscussionRuss and Koop discussed the recent midterm elections, noting that despite Republicans taking back the house by a narrow margin, poor candidate selection by Democrats in key races prevented them from achieving greater gains. They agreed that a predicted "blue wave" in 2024 is unlikely due to extreme candidates on both sides driving voters toward the middle. Russ predicted Republicans would gain 2-3 House seats and potentially one Senate seat in 2026, reversing the 2022 results.Fetterman's Political Future DiscussionRuss and Koop discussed John Fetterman's political future, with Russ predicting Fetterman would lose his primary election rather than switch parties, which could potentially open up a Republican seat in Pennsylvania in 2028. They also shared a humorous Babylon Bee video satire about progressive policies, noting that the best satire contains elements of truth.Koop and Russ Discussion MeetingKoop and Russ discussed various topics including farming intelligence, the upcoming World Cup, and local political issues. They shared perspectives on Seattle's decline and criticized current political leaders. The conversation concluded with plans to update merchandise designs, particularly for hats, on their website TwoGrumpyBastardsMerchandise.com.Thank you for listening and subscribing and liking the hell out of us!Politics. Thirty-four million dollars. That's what it costs to buy a congressional seat in America. Not rent. Buy. Outright. Like a foreclosure auction, except the property is a democracy and the bidders live in a different country. This week, Thomas Massie, a seven-term Republican who voted with Trump 94% of the time, was primaried out of Congress in the most expensive House primary in U.S. history. His crime? Pushing the Epstein files. Fighting the war in Iran. Introducing a bill to make AIPAC register as a foreign agent. His replacement is a man with no public platform, no public birthday, and $34 million in outside money from pro-Israel lobbying groups and three billionaires who have never been to Kentucky.Meanwhile: The DOJ created a $1.776 billion taxpayer-funded "Anti-Weaponization Fund" that could pay out January 6th defendants, Proud Boys, and Oath Keepers, and gave Trump permanent IRS audit immunity as a bonus. Two Capitol Police officers are suing to shut it down. The Trump administration indicted 94-year-old Raul Castro on Cuban Independence Day at Miami's Freedom Tower, directly next to the future Trump Library, in the middle of an oil blockade that has left Cuba without electricity and healthcare. Justice or political theater? (We both know the answer.)The Senate finally advanced a war powers resolution on Iran. On its eighth try. The House still can't get it done by one vote. The guy who led the fight just lost his seat.Spencer Pratt, the villain from The Hills, is running for Mayor of Los Angeles. His campaign is staffed by MAGA operatives. He compared himself to Obama. Ralph speaks to Dr. Marina Nord of the V-Dem Institute about this year's V-Dem Democracy Report and how the Trump Administration is dismantling democracy in the US. Then, Ralph welcomes Dr. Ralph Estes to discuss corporations' shady accounting practices.Dr. Marina Nord is a postdoctoral research fellow at the V-Dem Institute. She is co-author of V-Dem's Democracy Report 2026: “Unraveling The Democratic Era?”.Only six countries during the 21st century have registered larger one-year drops on the aggregate Liberal Democracy Index [than the United States] —and all of them are coups. If you look at the last almost 250 years (so for which we have data going back to 1789), there were only thirty-five instances of more rapid dismantling of democracy—almost all of them were either military coups or international interventions.Dr. Marina NordWe do not measure [Trump's] words. We measure how institutions function de facto. And what is a lot more important for us is not only what he says, but how other institutions (checks and balances) function to constrain him. And one of the things that we see, for example, is that Congress is not constraining him in any way. And this is very, very serious, because if you have a President who violates the law, who violates the Constitution, you should have the judiciary who stand up, the Supreme Court who should stand up to protect the Constitution. You should have the Congress who is not allowed to [abdicate power to the executive]. And this is something that is very, very concerning, a lot more concerning than what Trump is saying. What I find a lot more concerning is that there are no checks and balances to constrain him.Dr. Marina NordWhen looking at the data, we also looked at the countries who managed to stop autocrats similar to Trump. And we tried to analyze which factors contributed to stopping democratic backsliding and turning it around. So research shows that, of course, there is no single recipe, but there are several combinations of factors that may help. One of them is: use whatever institutional safeguards that you still have in the United States…The second thing that we know that still works quite well is robust societal action. And by that we mean not only demonstrations similar to the No Kings protests, but sustained protests, mass pro-democracy protests…And then, of course, one of the things that still should be a possibility to turn things around is the midterm elections.Dr. Marina NordDr. Ralph Estes is Emeritus professor of business and accounting at American University in Washington, D.C., co-founder and vice president of The Center for Advancement of Public Policy, and Emeritus Trustee at the Institute for Policy Studies. He is the author of several books, including Tyranny of the Bottom Line: Why Corporations Make Good People Do Bad Things and Fight the Corpocracy, Take Back Democracy: A Mad As Hell Guide for the 99%.The public has no way of fairly evaluating a corporation except through the press, what it sees in corporate press releases and their claims about being, for example, environmentally responsible and very favorable to customers. And there are no measures on that. Corporation doesn't give us any. Corporation produces a set of financial statements. You won't know how relevant those financial statements are to you and me. They're not relevant at all… In terms of social performance, there's nothing in the corporate reports, the formal reports, that is reliable. Again, you're stuck with what the corporation claims or what the politicians who are lobbying for contributions will admit corporations do… But this is a problem. If the corporation doesn't report it, if the citizens don't know about it, the politicians can try to do something, but they have to start from scratch.Dr. Ralph EstesNews 5/15/26* We begin this week with a bombshell story from Latin America. This week, El País broke what they are calling “Hondurasgate,” an expose centering on leaked audio recordings of conversations between President Donald Trump, Argentinian President Javier Milei and former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández – who was convicted and sentenced to 45 years in prison on drug trafficking charges in the U.S. but pardoned by Trump last year. In these leaked recordings, the three current and former heads of state discuss the creation of a “channel of spreading fake news with the intention of misinforming and destabilizing” Leftist governments in the region, including those of Gustavo Petro in Colombia and Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico. According to this report, the leaks reveal the involvement of another world leader – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – in the decision to pardon Hernández. El País writes the leaks prove the pardoning of Hernández was “not a gesture of clemency, but the down payment of a broader agreement.” Expect more damning information to come out as more recordings are unearthed, even if so far the American media has largely blacked out this stunning story.* At the same time the Trump administration is seeking to subtly undermine governments like Mexico's, they are executing considerably less subtle covert operations there as well. On March 28th, an explosion blew up the car of alleged narco Francisco Beltran just outside Mexico City. CNN now reports that, while “Mexican authorities have maintained extreme secrecy around the explosion,” multiple sources confirm that this was “a targeted assassination,” carried out by the CIA. Not only that, this operation is reportedly just one of several assassinations carried out by the CIA against rank-and-file cartel members on foreign soil which began last year. Troublingly, CNN notes these operations could be illegal under Mexican law, which prohibits foreign agents from participating in law enforcement operations without the express permission of the federal government. Omar Garcia Harfuch, Mexico's Secretary of Security released a statement indicating that the Mexican government has not granted any such permission, writing “The Government of Mexico categorically rejects any version that seeks to normalize, justify, or suggest the existence of lethal, covert, or unilateral operations by foreign agencies on national territory.”* One ironic aspect of the joint right-wing destabilization effort and CIA covert operations campaign both currently underway in Mexico is the fact that the Sheinbaum government has affected a stunning reduction in murders throughout the country. According to Mexico Solidarity Media, the daily average of intentional homicides has been reduced by 40% between the beginning of the Sheinbaum administration in October 2024 and April 30, 2026, with that last month hitting the lowest level in over a decade – comparable in fact to the United States. We can only hope that Sheinbaum is able to stay the course and continue to drive down the murder rate while simultaneously avoiding the destabilization campaigns being waged against her government.* In Colombia, another state targeted in the Hondurasgate plot, Ivan Cepeda continues to consolidate progressive forces in that country ahead of the presidential election, aiming for a first round victory. This week, Luis Gilberto Murillo, a center-left presidential candidate, dropped out and endorsed Cepeda. While Murillo never rose very high in the polls, he has held high positions in the Colombian government – including Minister of Environment and governor of the department of Choco as well as Colombia's ambassador to the United States and later foreign minister under Gustavo Petro.Colombia One notes that this is the second such withdrawal in recent weeks, with Senator Clara López doing the same, indicating a serious intention among the progressive forces in Colombia to stave off a second round of the presidential election, which could see the right-wing consolidate against Cepeda in a way they have thus far been unable to do ahead of the first round.* Meanwhile, El Salvador's Nayib Bukele, a standard bearer for the Latin American Right and a close ally of President Trump, is mired in a new scandal involving his dealings with the MS-13 gang and his ensuing attempts to silence the press. According to PBS, last month the Salvadoran outlet El Faro, in conjunction with PBS FRONTLINE released a documentary titled The Deal: Trump, Bukele & the Gangs of El Salvador, which “uncovered evidence that Bukele's administration had offered privileges to gang leaders in prison in exchange for a reduction in homicides and voter support in territories the gangs controlled.” Now, in retaliation for publishing this story, Bukele has reportedly “frozen the personal assets of two of [El Faro's] shareholders,” including editor-in-chief Carlos Dada who said in a press conference that “These are not fiscal measures…They are political measures trying to silence us.” This article notes that the facts presented in The Deal are particularly damning to Bukele, because of his public claims that he “would never negotiate with gangs” because it would grant them legitimacy. Just as it is ironic that the Trump administration is seeking to destabilize the Mexican government while it dramatically reduces murders, so too is it ironic that it is seeking to bolster the Bukele regime even as it carries out secretive deals with the very gangs the U.S. claims to be fighting.* In a wholly different part of the world, the centrist Labour Party government of Keir Starmer in the UK is teetering on the brink of collapse. Starmer's popularity has been declining precipitously ever since he entered office, but the crisis of confidence from within his own party accelerated after the disastrous results of the May 7th local elections. Now, according to CNN, over 100 members of his party in Parliament are calling for him to resign, but the only way to trigger a leadership challenge is for at least 81 Labour MPs to coalesce around a single challenger – and as yet, none have crossed that threshold. Starmer himself has refused to stand down, challenging any other claimants to come forward. Health Secretary Wes Streeting has come the closest to openly challenging Starmer, even resigning his post in the government but stopping short of formally announcing a leadership challenge, the BBC reports. For now, Starmer continues to cling to power but each day could be his last at No. 10.* Turning to American foreign policy news, this week the Senate voted down yet another War Powers Resolution on Iran – the seventh such attempt since the war began in late February. What is notable about this resolution is that it won the support of the most GOP Senators yet – Rand Paul of Kentucky, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska – yet still failed by a margin of 50-49 because Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania crossed party lines to vote against the resolution. This from CBS. Even with Fetterman's disloyalty, this vote is significant for the number of Republicans who broke ranks, perhaps indicating a growing unease with the war and particularly its impact on the price of consumer goods, beginning with gasoline and cascading from there.* In more congressional news, Southern states are scrambling to act in the wake of the Callais decision. In South Carolina and Mississippi, state officials have rejected attempts to call special sessions to redraw congressional maps before this year's midterms. But, NPR reports Alabama is moving towards a new map that, like Louisiana, will likely include just one single largely Black, Democratic-leaning congressional district. However, even though some of these states are holding off on redrawing these districts today, it does not mean those districts will be safe tomorrow. And in Tennessee, where the legislature is moving ahead with a plan to do away with the state's majority Black 9th congressional district in a special session – resulting in a revolt by Democrats in the legislature – the Republicans are retaliating by stripping all Democrats from their standing committee seats for “creating disorder,” per StateAffairs.com. Expect this process to get more contentious, and plain uglier, as it grinds ahead.* Next, a story in Fortune highlights the cost of data center construction. According to this story, the nearly 50,000 permanent residents of the California ski resort town of Lake Tahoe – which regularly attracts 25 to 28 million visitors annually – will soon be disconnected from their traditional power source, NV Energy. NV supplies the power to Liberty Utilities, which services the area directly, and NV has informed Liberty that it will stop providing power after May 2027. That power will instead be redirected to data centers, leaving Liberty Utilities less than a year to find another power source. This story notes that “Northern Nevada has become one of the fastest-growing data-center corridors in the country,” with Google, Apple, and Microsoft all having built or planning to build facilities in the area. Gallingly, just last fall NV Energy's director of business development said the company was “eager to serve the new industrial load” but that it would not “impact [their] existing customer base.” This is a troubling preview of what may come as data center expansion continues unchecked.* Finally, in a story that proves once again that corporate greed knows no limits, the Lever is out with a new report on a class-action lawsuit by consumers against “private equity-backed bowling giant Bowlero.” According to the Lever, the suit accuses Bowlero of executing a “‘multi-year anticompetitive scheme to consolidate bowling centers,' which has led to skyrocketing bowling prices, deteriorating lanes, and ‘the veritable destruction of the decades-old pastime of bowling in America.'” The numbers back up this narrative. Bowlero, which had just six locations in 2012, has exploded to 350 today. The company is said to control roughly 35 percent of U.S. bowling revenue – and 95% of all lanes in some markets – as well as acquiring the Professional Bowling Association itself. As with any monopoly, once it had cornered the market Bowlero proceeded to jack up prices, even using AI to do so algorithmically. In a sense, this is a story we have all heard too many times to be surprised, but we can still be shocked by the base greed of corporate executives, even in something as seemingly anodyne as the bowling industry. This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. Bill Maher sits down with Senator John Fetterman for a brutally candid conversation with no loyalty tests and no easy answers. From Trump, media outrage cycles, and Democratic Party infighting to Israel, Iran, immigration, cancel culture, and the death of political nuance, Maher and Fetterman dive headfirst into the forces pulling America apart — and why so many voters feel politically homeless right now. Fetterman opens up about surviving his stroke, the backlash he's taken from both the left and the right, and why he refuses to perform partisan outrage just to earn applause. He talks about how his support for Israel after October 7 fractured relationships within his own party, why Democrats continue losing working-class voters, and what many on the left still fail to understand about Trump's appeal. Stay connected with us at americangroundradio.com, on Facebook, and Instagram. You're listening to American Ground Radio with Louis R. Avallone and Stephen Parr. This is the full show for May 8, 2026. We open with a story that cuts to the heart of public trust in American institutions — a Utah Supreme Court justice has resigned after it was revealed she was romantically involved with a leftist redistricting attorney whose litigation she ruled on, helping Democrats gain a congressional seat in deep red Utah. We ask the question every American should be asking — is anything sacred anymore? We talk about why courts derive their entire authority from public trust and nothing else, why the founders understood this better than modern elites do, and why if a conservative judge had done the same thing in a case benefiting Republicans, the national media would have run wall-to-wall coverage for weeks. How many times had you heard this story before today? That's the answer. In our Top 3 Things You Need to Know, the Virginia State Supreme Court struck down the Democrat redistricting plan that would have flipped the state's congressional delegation from a 6-5 Democrat advantage to a 10-1 advantage — ruling the legislature didn't follow the state constitution's requirement of two separate legislative sessions with an election in between before putting constitutional changes to voters. The whole measure is null and void. Then the U.S. economy added 115,000 jobs in April — nearly double what economists expected — with March numbers revised upward by 10,000, and first-time unemployment claims remaining at historic lows. And in Britain, Keir Starmer's Labour Party lost more than 1,000 seats in local elections across England, Scotland, and Wales while the new Reform UK party picked up more than 1,500 seats — one of the largest losses by a ruling party in British electoral history. We dig into Senator John Fetterman's Washington Post op-ed titled "I Haven't Changed. Here's What Has" — and we give him credit for saying things no other Democrat in Washington will say out loud. Fetterman says his party cannot simply be the opposite of whatever Donald Trump says. He says Democrats used to want a secure border. They used to believe shutting the government down was wrong. They used to support Israel. He's right on all three. We also note that Fetterman would make a terrible Republican — he's still pro-choice, pro-weed, pro-LGBT, and pro-SNAP — but we make the case that the party Fetterman signed up for no longer exists, and that there is currently no political party in America for people who are pro-abortion and pro-Israel, or pro-social spending and pro-law and order. That used to be the Democrat Party. It isn't anymore. We also weigh in on the decision to allow cameras in the courtroom for the trial of the man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk — debating whether transparency and public accountability outweigh the risk of turning a murder trial into a TikTok content machine, and why the O.J. Simpson trial is still the cautionary tale that haunts every conversation about cameras in high-profile courtrooms. Then it's Fake News Friday — real news, fake news, or really fake news — including whether Republicans are stealing a Black Democrat's seat in Tennessee (they're not — it's Stephen Cohen, who is white), a publicly funded water park in Plano, Texas holding a Muslim-only day, a South Carolina judge ruling that a convicted murderer can't be executed because he believes he's a god, Washington state making it illegal for daycare workers to peel a banana without a food prep license, Barack Obama blaming Donald Trump for his marital problems with Michelle, and more. We also cover the Pentagon's first release of UFO files at President Trump's direction — and settle the question of whether this is a distraction from Iran. It's not. Donald Trump can walk and chew gum at the same time. And we close with a comprehensive look at the redistricting scoreboard heading into the midterms — Republicans picking up seats in Texas, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, Missouri, Ohio, Louisiana, Mississippi, and more, while Virginia's 10-to-1 gerrymander got thrown out. The most likely net outcome, according to the compilation of pundits, is Republicans gaining 11 seats in the House. That's a historic reversal of the typical midterm pattern — and it could change everything. For our Bright Spot, 17-year-old Avant Williams took his grandmother Svala to prom — because she grew up in Iceland watching American movies about prom her whole life and always dreamed of going. He wore a tux. She wore a fancy dress. They went to dinner and took pictures. He said, I've only been looking forward to this moment since I was about two years old. Join Jim and Greg for the Wednesday 3 Martini Lunch as they break down a huge win for the GOP already in 2026, the Republicans' efforts to flip Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman, and the Pentagon's response to bizarre claims about Iran's military capabilities in the Persian Gulf.First, as they watch odious figures like Nick Fuentes embrace the Democrats again and seek to "burn down the whole (Republican) party in 2028," it's a sign that the GOP is largely slamming the door in the face of these extremists. Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens are also noticeably drifting leftward. Jim and Greg are plenty glad to witness this addition by subtraction.Next, they consider the effort by two Republican senators to woo Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman to join the GOP. He says that won't happen. Jim and Greg point out that Fetterman really only bucks the Democrats on a couple of issues but that's enough to make him a pariah on the left. They also consider Fetterman's options as he considers re-election in 2028.Then they get a good laugh as Sec. Pete Hegseth and Gen. Dan Caine reassure Americans that Iran does not have "kamikaze dolphins" as weapons in the Persian Gulf. They also consider where the war stands four weeks into this cease-fire.Finally, Jim and Greg preview what the next couple of weeks will look like on the 3 Martini Lunch. Please visit our great sponsors:Pocket HoseFor a limited time, get two free gifts—a 360° rotating pocket pivot and a thumb drive nozzle—when you buy the Pocket Hose Ballistic; just text MARTINI to 64000, message and data rates may apply.ZocDocStop putting off those doctors' appointments and visit https://Zocdoc.com/3ML to find and instantly book a top rated doctor today.CalotrenIf you're looking for the missing piece-Calotren is it. This week on We Saw the Devil, Robin tears through the most chaotic news cycle of the second Trump administration so far. Donald Trump told a White House crowd he'll be in office "eight or nine years from now," and they applauded. Politico reports the President personally offered Senator John Fetterman a "financial windfall" to switch parties (usually a bag of cash), on the record, while a sitting US senator "absorbed the suggestion." Trump publicly accused Pope Leo XIV of "endangering Catholics" with his pro-peace stance on the Iran war, sending Marco Rubio to Rome on damage control. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America president Marjorie Dannenfelser told the Wall Street Journal flat out: "Trump is the problem. The president is the problem."Robin breaks down Operation Epic Fury, Project Freedom, and the Strait of Hormuz standoff Pete Hegseth insists is "not a ceasefire violation" while Iran sinks ships and the UAE shoots down Iranian missiles. The Senate's $1 billion taxpayer giveaway for Trump's East Wing ballroom, the Supreme Court's gutting of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act in Louisiana v. Callais, RFK Jr.'s campaign to "deprescribe" antidepressants, the closure of the ICE Detention Ombudsman office, the eight Republican AGs arguing in federal court that Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act is unconstitutional, and the hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship in the Atlantic that nobody at HHS is equipped to track.Pour something strong. Glenn Wiggle and Mike Sperrazza run a rapid-fire session covering the looming statute of limitations on potential charges against Dr. Anthony Fauci over the Wuhan lab funding and COVID origins, and the lingering damage from six-foot distancing rules and ventilator protocols that were obvious failures in real time. They break down a viral clip of Philadelphia high schoolers unable to define words like "accommodate" or "silhouette," and the school's response of threatening the student who exposed it with expulsion rather than fixing the curriculum. From there they take on Randy Weingarten and the teachers union pushing pay and benefits while graduation rates collapse, May Day protests pulling grade schoolers into the streets, and the indoctrination problem with universal daycare proposals. Other targets include Eric Swalwell naming Jamie Raskin, Hakeem Jeffries, and Adam Schiff as fellow bad actors, Rashida Tlaib's call for Supreme Court term limits without touching Congress, a Washington Post contributor's list of rights supposedly lost in four years, EPA confirmation of cloud seeding and atmospheric spraying programs, and Albany's incoming mayor blaming a financial mess on the prior administration she served as chief auditor. Morning Announcements

Today's Headlines: The ceasefire is officially dead — Iran fired on multiple ships in the Strait of Hormuz after Trump said escorting vessels through the strait would be totally chill and Iran said that would be a ceasefire violation, and then Iran fired anyway. The UAE is also reporting missile attacks on a fuel facility and ships off its coast. Trump responded by holding remarks at the White House where he bragged about the economy, called it a "mini war," and mentioned he scored well on a cognitive test — so there's that. In slightly better but don't-get-excited news, the Supreme Court issued a one-week temporary order restoring mail access to mifepristone while they figure out what they actually want to do, which is great for approximately the next seven days. On the redistricting front, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is dispatching a congressman to Albany to work on a new New York map, though realistically nothing gets implemented before 2027. There was also a shooting near the Washington Monument shortly after JD Vance's motorcade passed through — Secret Service exchanged gunfire with an armed man, a nearby child was hit and is reportedly okay, and the White House went into lockdown briefly while everyone figured out what was happening. Meanwhile, Trump is apparently offering Senator John Fetterman a financial windfall plus a full endorsement if he switches parties, which Fetterman publicly says is a hard no — though privately, per Politico, he's being a little less emphatic about it. In trial news: Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni settled their lawsuit hours before she walked the Met Gala red carpet, terms undisclosed; UK police are working to bring a suspect in the 2007 Madeleine McCann disappearance to trial, complicated by Germany's extradition laws; and a judge denied Sam Bankman-Fried's request for a new trial, calling his claims baseless, so he's staying in prison for 25 years unless he somehow charms his way into a Trump arrangement. And finally, three people on a cruise ship have died from what WHO believes is a hantavirus infection — the same illness that killed Gene Hackman — with at least three more confirmed cases and five suspected, because apparently we needed one more thing to worry about. Resources/Articles mentioned: NBC News: Trump says U.S. will begin guiding ships through Strait of Hormuz Axios: US, Iran exchange fire in strait as Trump attempts to open shipping lane Axios: Iran ceasefire in peril as UAE says it's under attack WaPo: Supreme Court restores access to abortion pill by mail for now The Hill: Jeffries leads redistricting effort in New York WaPo: Gunfire between Secret Service and armed person briefly locks down White House Politico: Inside the Quiet Republican Effort to Flip Fetterman THR: It Finally Ends: Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni Settle Lawsuit Ahead of Trial Telegraph: Met seeks UK trial for Madeleine McCann suspect ABC News: Judge denies Sam Bankman-Fried new trial after financial fraud conviction WSJ: Health Officials Work to Contain Hantavirus Outbreak on Cruise Ship Subscribe to the Betches News Room and join the Morning Announcements group chat. SEASON 4 EPISODE 82: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (3:00) SPECIAL COMMENT: Call me a cynic but I am beginning to get a sense that you may have some doubts about this Not-An-Assassination Attempt at The White House Correspondents Dinner. Well - that's what it was. Or in this case, what it wasn't. The acting attorney general says the alleged perp quote “was stopped before he got anywhere near the President.” So, NOT an assassination attempt, per the attorney general. But of course the White House is still trying to sell it as one (its 'protocol director' insists it was "the hand of God" again; its deputy chief of staff tried to start another 'USA!' chant after the incident). Even though proximity is the definition of such a nightmare scenario. Saturday Night? Obama had 15 of those. Still, among my fellow Americans who are NOT in the Trump Mass Hypnosis Cult, I may be in the minority because I DON’T think it was staged. Why are you so cynical? Just because an hour beforehand Karoline Leavitt told Fox quote “There will be some shots fired tonight!” That’s a coincidence. Just because Trump has gone insane about his quote “militarily top secret ballroom” and the next thing you know he’s GOING to a ballroom and after that the Secret Service screws up security AT the ballroom and after THAT he’s holding a press conference saying this is WHY he needs that ballroom and all his sock puppets are tweeting about the ballroom. Coincidence! Just because Trump and his filth have lied to you about every THING, every DAY, for 11 years… that’s no reason for you to think that was STAGED. It’s a coincidence! It’s all a coincidence. ALSO: for God's sake stop saying there's no room for violence in American politics and we don't resolve our differences this way! Certainly we all wish that were true. But in point of fact there's room for almost nothing BUT violence in American politics! Ask JFK, Reagan, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Garfield, Lincoln, McKinley, dozens of others! What was the Civil War if not political violence? B-Block (28:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The Staten Island cop who has reportedly amassed more than 500 speeding tickets, and last year averaged one every other day. Jeff Bezos' Washington Post will only print a letter to the editor responding to its editorial if the authors take out the references TO Jeff Bezos. And Tom Cotton makes a hilarious mistake: Iran will meet its match not on the battlefield but at the bargaining table because it's never faced the author of "Art Of The Deal." Who's gonna tell him? C-Block (41:00) MONDAYS WITH THURBER: We need a break from media people talking about themselves so let's drop "Things I Promised Not To Tell" and instead read you his wonderful, weird, slightly spooky "The Black Magic Of Barney Haller." Dean Karayanis, columnist for the New York Sun, welcomes back his half-Greek writing partner from the Rush Limbaugh Show and former producer of The Drudge Report, George “Koko” Prayias for a fun look at the world's serious issues. The episode debuts “One-and-a-Half Greeks” new theme song. It's a little bit country, but the show is all Rock and Roll. The discussion covers the left's embrace of Tax Day and hiking taxes on “the rich,” in the person of Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Democrats used to stay quiet on this day because America was built on a tax rebellion, but they've changed the electorate and now it's a holiday — even though Americans will work for the government this year from January 1 to April 26, projected as Tax-Freedom Day. The war in Iran illustrates another break with the past, as Senators Schumer, Gillibrand, and Fetterman all find themselves targeted by the ascendant antisemite, socialist wing of their party. Swalwell is an indication that they will take down anyone who gets in their way, aiming the same anger at old-school Democrats that they once reserved for Republicans. Even Pope Leo, who George — as a life-long Catholic — laments is a “Chicago Machine Pope,” has decided to go all-in on the global effort to halt Trump's agenda and rein in America. That this puts them on the side of the terrorist regime in Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah doesn't embarrass them. But at least the fiction that the groups aren't all one in the same has been exposed by the ayatollahs' own admission.
