Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom welcomes in Stella Morabito, author of The Weaponization of Loneliness and Senior Contributor to the Federalist, back onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss her new initiative to launch a new book club project that would offer a counter to the effort to weaponize loneliness, creating an environment where individuals can speak freely. Morabito tells about her great book, explaining how certain entities create division through artificial loneliness, pointing out real life examples from cults to political movements that employ the tactic. Morabito suggests how one can recognize and push back against the efforts, and explains what she hopes to do with her new book clubs. Then, Dom welcomes in Pennsylvania State Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill, who recently co-authored a bill that aims to grant amnesty to bars that violated COVID lockdown orders. Phillips-Hill explains that the bill would prohibit the PLCB from revoking or suspending liquor licenses, something they've allegedly done as a retort to businesses who didn't follow regulations during the pandemic. Also, Senator Phillips-Hill updates her bill on the banning of TikTok on Pennsylvania government devices, telling why she still supports the bill after Democrats filed an amendment extending its power. This episode features Andrew Auwerda and Drew Perry of BOTLD. The idea for BOTLD came during covid. Andrew was running Philadelphia Distilling. The PLCB was closed for 12 weeks during the lockdown. That was their number one purchaser of Bluecoat American Dry Gin. They quickly pivoted to direct to consumer sales. This practice became a huge success. Today BOTLD's mission is to bring a more adventurous, wider, deeper selection of spirits to consumers, as well as, bars and restaurants. They curate brands and spirits that can't get into the PLCB. BOTLD partners with those brands and brings them to the shelves in Pennsylvania. Distinction... Discovery... The state AG's office has filed a lawsuit against a headstone company that reportedly “took advantage of grieving Pennsylvanians.” Pennsylvania is seeing its principals leave schools at a record rate. Those ordering specialty wines and spirits off of the new version of the PLCB's ordering system may run into some difficulty. And if Philadelphia was a chip, it'd taste like…a roast pork sandwich?

Today in PA | A PennLive daily news briefing with Julia Hatmaker

A school district has passed a policy that bans teachers' “advocacy activities” and displaying anything that expresses a “partisan, political, or social police issue” in classrooms. Harrisburg is clearing a homeless encampment because of a “public health emergency” involving rats and trash. Prices on over 3,500 items sold at PLCB stores are going up this weekend. Plus, this professor made one “shell” of a discovery.

Some Pennsylvanian gun dealers are questioning a recent report about the source of firearms linked to crimes in the state. Inflation has caused the dollar amount of pretty much everything to go up, including, evidently, state officials' salaries. It's the return of the Heinz. Plus, the PLCB found that Keystone State residents prefer this spirit the most.

The PLCB regulates the manufacture, importation, sale, distribution and disposition of liquor, alcohol, and malt or brewed beverages in the commonwealth. The agency issues licenses to private individuals or entities that wish to engage in wholesale operations of beer, either as an importing distributor or as a distributor. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) was created by state law on Nov. 29, 1933, at the end of Prohibition. Seventeen states (including Pennsylvania) and jurisdictions in Alaska, Maryland, Minnesota, and South Dakota control the sale of distilled spirits and, in some cases, wine and beer through government agencies at the wholesale level. Thirteen of those jurisdictions (including Pennsylvania) also exercise control over retail sales for off-premises consumption. The agency is governed by a three-member Board whose members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by two-thirds of the state Senate. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/radiocentro/message

Danner has been making boots for 85 years for the unforgiving Pacific Northwest. Their Stronghold series is inspired by hikers but built for the toughest working conditions. Find your local store at danner.com. Show Notes: What are your initial thoughts on the new release of NEAT at thebourbonfilm.com? We've got our own bourbon film come out. You will love the cheesy graphics. It's fun to watch. There was release for James Thompson & Brother Final Reserve 45 year old bourbon here in Louisville. 250 total bottles. only 150 to the public. It was $1800 + tax. People camped out in the rain. First few sold and then the reviews came out. It’s terrible. What’s the likely future outcome for pricing of this bourbon? and the subsequent 43 and 41 year old releases? The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board admitting that it's pricing Booker's Rye with secondary in their online lottery. This is state run. Is this legal? What's to make of this? Heaven Hill is releasing their Old Fitzgerald BIB Decanter at $100. Will you be buying it? What will happen to the bottom shelf Old Fitz? Are $100 NDP MGPs the new norm? We used to scuff at this like 2 years ago saying you wouldn't pay these prices for something you knew was made in Indiana. Now with things like Mic.Drop. people are doing it. And keep in perspective that GTS is only $89. Is it a problem with hype? What's the next SAOS MGP be the new stitzel weller...all these up and coming distilleries are going to switch to their own distillate and their mgp bottlings will become more valuable Is it worth buying bottles over $50 now? What's up with all the Wathen's Barrel Proof recently? When did this become a sought after item? Because it's barrel proof? a single barrel pick? Wathen's has been around forever but just now became something that continually shows up on my feed. How about an additional topic: Blake hates Single barrel bourbons...thoughts?

In this episode, you will learn about how regions can collaborate together and pool resources to do things together that they could not do alone from Laury Poland. As president of Finger Lakes Wine Country Tourism Marketing Association (FLWCTMA), Laury Poland is responsible for creation, coordination, administration and implementation of all FLWCTMA programs and initiatives to promote economic development in the Finger Lakes region of the state of New York. A native of Rockville, Maryland, Laury began her employment at the Corning, New York-based tourism marketing association on September 30, 2013. Before coming to the Finger Lakes, Laury was responsible for all advertising and promotions initiatives of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s (PLCB) Bureau of Marketing Communications, Branding & Design. During this time, Laury developed a keen interest in the wine and spirits industry, completing significant coursework in wine education. In her professional role with the PLCB, Laury constructed full-scale traditional and new media campaigns, including website development, digital advertising, and a social media presence through Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, as part of a $6M annual advertising budget. Laury also determined new areas of media to include in marketing and public relations efforts based on trends and technology. Laury wrote, produced and edited video projects for the PLCB’s 608 retail stores, Fine Wine & Good Spirits, and oversaw all print, web, radio, television and digital material, ensuring consistency of corporate brand image and messaging. Prior to her time at the PLCB, Laury represented New York-based Church Pension Group Services Corporation (CPG) as vice president of Church Publishing Incorporated, from 2006-2011. Laury joined Continuum International Publishing Group in 2004, as director of Morehouse Church Supplies – a position she held until late 2005 when CPG acquired the book publishing, curriculum and church resource divisions of Morehouse Publishing. Laury was also a business owner, managing her own public relations, marketing and advertising firm, In-House Agency, from 1998-2004, serving as the communications specialist for numerous successful media initiatives. Laury holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism/Public Relations from the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism at West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV. What you’ll learn about in this episode: Laury’s personal story of visiting the Finger Lakes as a tourist and how it challenged her conceptions of the region and allowed her to bring an outside perspective once she joined the Finger Lakes Wine Country Tourism Marketing Association How to tell the story of the entire region and the success Laury has seen from doing this for the Finger Lakes Region Giving your visitors an organic experience and letting them live like locals Offering education opportunities for visitors in a way that doesn’t feel like the classroom Why travelers are taking shorter vacations but packing more in The study that shows that 81% of visitors who went to the Finger Lakes came back 5 times Giving visitors the opportunity to find their own escape (and why you can’t find it for them) Why the sum of the FLWCTMA’s parts is much greater than what the counties would have alone (ex: together they have the largest Facebook following for any wine region in America with 72,000 followers) The FLWCTMA’s unique structure, why they act like a marketing agency and how funding flows throughout the whole system The FLWCTMA’s integrated marketing plan, beginning with its website that sees a half a million unique visitors a year Why word of mouth is the #1 referral and how it has evolved much in recent years with social media The challenges Laury’s faced by collaborating with so many different organizations and how she overcame them by giving people the resources to do what they do best Ways to contact Laury: Website: www.fingerlakeswinecountry.com
