Part 1:We talk with Professor Barnet Sherman, Multinational Finance and Trade,Boston UniversityDuring his 30+ year career on Wall Street, Barnet Sherman grew and managed multibillion dollar portfolios for Morgan Stanley ($3B) and TIAA ($10B) as well as founded a hedge fund. Now a Professor at Boston University, he draws on these experiences in both his Multinational Finance & Trade and Corporate Finance classes to give graduate students professional insights on these complex topics. A Senior Contributor to Forbes.com, he continues to write extensively on the capital markets. We discuss the effect of discouraging students from around the world from coming the the US for education. Education is our 10th largest export, and it contributes billions of dollars in both direct payments (tuition, rents, etc.) and also as multiplied by creating and supporting jobs in the US.The administration is targeting foreign students, by taking actions against them, by either cancelling visas, and deporting many students. This discourages potential students from coming. Additionally, the 'brain drain' thus caused will stifle much development and invention activity. Faculty will likely also choose to go to 'friendlier' countries to work. Colleges and universities, who are subsidized by international students who pay 'full freight' will lose revenues, and will likely have to close. Nationally, $2.3 Billion is the estimated annual revenue contribution.Part 2:We talk with Lori Wallach, Director, Rethink Trade Program at the American Economic Liberties Project.RethinkTrade.orgWe discuss how tariffs should work to aid a real economic plan. We discuss the role of targeted tariffs, and paired with investments in-country in economic development in the country, along with the economic advantages to workers as a result. Inbalances in trade can be resolved, but they must be more than a "beggar thy neighbor" policies, which do not work. Instead, we discuss how the US should approach trade with other countries, and develop resilience in its supply chains.  Music: David Rovics WNHN.ORG  production

In the past month, the Supreme Court has interacted with three cases that have stark implications for the reproductive health, rights, and wellbeing of many across the U.S. Madiba Dennie, author of The Originalism Trap: How Extremists Stole the Constitution and How We the People Can Take it Back and Deputy Editor and Senior Contributor at the legal commentary outlet Balls and Strikes, sits down to talk to us about originalism, the recent Supreme Court case rulings, and what it all means for the sexual and reproductive health and rights of Americans. On June 13, 2024, the Supreme Court ruled that plaintiffs in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine—which challenged access to nationwide medication abortion—did not have a legal standing. For now, this ruling preserves the post-Dobbs status-quo, protecting access to mifepristone, a safe and common medication used in nearly two-thirds of abortions, in some states. On June 21, 2024, the Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Rahimi to prevent those with previous domestic violence restraining orders filed against them to possess firearms. And on June 27th, the Supreme Court dismissed a case that would have prevented abortion in the case of medical emergency in Idaho. Access remains protected—for now. Many of the recent Supreme Court cases are rooted in originalism, or the application of U.S. “history” and “tradition” to undermine rights, which has been a trusted roadmap for anti-rights actors in the courts.Support the Show.Follow Us on Social: Twitter: @rePROsFightBack Instagram: @reprosfbFacebook: rePROs Fight Back Email us: jennie@reprosfightback.comRate and Review on Apple PodcastThanks for listening & keep fighting back!

In this episode Tanya Tarr, Senior Contributor, Forbes, and Behavioral Scientist, and host Joe Serio dissect the myths of workplace wellness. You might rethink those yoga sessions! Tune in now! Tanya and Joe dig into the nuanced world of well-being, whether at home or in the workplace. In this riveting episode, they switch gears from the comforts of home to the often chaotic terrain of the office. Ever wondered why pizza parties and gimmicky workplace wellness programs just don't cut it? This episode is for you. Who should listen? If you're an employee feeling stuck in a toxic work environment, a manager looking to foster a healthier workplace, or an HR professional striving for impactful wellness initiatives, this episode is your blueprint for creating a thriving work culture.  Here are a few thought-provoking takeaways about workplace well-being, toxic bosses, and the crucial aspects of creating a sense of belonging: 1. Balancing home and work well-being is crucial. Sometimes work is a sanctuary, other times it's home—either way, one impacts the other significantly. 2. Simply offering gym memberships or pizza parties isn't cutting it when it comes to workplace wellness. Real workplace well-being needs to be part of strategic planning and management. 3. Critical well-being factors to assess at work include physical comfort, solving interesting problems, professional development support, psychological safety, and feeling part of a supportive culture. 4. Meaningful workplace connections are key. If employees have genuine friendships at work, it's a strong indicator of an organization's health. 5. If you're stuck with an unsupportive boss, focus on what you can control. Seek intrinsic rewards like meaningfulness, choice, competence, and progress in your tasks. Madiba Dennie is Deputy Editor and Senior Contributor at the critical legal commentary outlet Balls and Strikes. Her debut book is The Originalism Trap: How Extremists Stole the Constitution and How We The People Can Take it Back. We discuss a fresh way to interpret the Constitution.   Inclusive Constitutionalism interprets the Constitution in a way that makes inclusive democracy real. By contrast, originalism interprets the meaning of the Constitution as fixed in time in the 1800s. However, the Reconstruction Amendments that were enacted in the wake of the Civil War tried to address the status of newly freed, formerly enslaved people. The Amendments were designed to foster a multiracial democracy for the first time. In addition, the public has a role in articulating what it believes the Constitution means. We take you close to the edge of the south side of the sky this week as we discuss the early adventures of Britain's answer to all the questions raised by hippies during the Seventies, the New Age of Atlantic: Yes. Yes were one of the pillars of British progressive rock music, but also (perhaps surprisingly) a major commercial success in America long before their peers. They were also a truly singular band during their lengthy heyday; the band underwent endless lineup changes as personalities clashed and artistic visions ran amok, and yet they have always sounded like themselves and nobody else successfully has.Starting with local janitor Jon Anderson on countertenor vocals, Pete Banks on Hendrixian guitar, Tony Kaye on groovy late-Sixties B3 organ, fussily precise jazz drummer Bill Bruford keeping time, and Chris Squire playing a bass so aggressive it intimidates people into crossing to the other side of the street, Yes exploded out of London's club-gigging scene after drawing inspiration from watching a newly born King Crimson play the circuit. Their early style mixed originals -- first halting, then increasingly assured -- with spectacularly imaginative covers of everything from West Side Story to Buffalo Springfield and Simon & Garfunkel. But as Banks was jettisoned for Steve Howe, and then Tony Kaye traded in for Rick Wakeman, Yes ascended from a series of records beginning with The Yes Album and Fragile (1971) to superstardom, with all that entailed: sidelong songs, triple live albums, and extended soaks in the topographic oceans. All set to some of the most inscrutable lyrics but gorgeous music written during the decade. So turn on your lava lamp and get ready to call over valleys of endless seas as you and I climb crossing the shape of the morning -- it's time to sink into a elevated musical fantasy world created by Yes during this, the first part of their career. We take the story up through Tales from Topographic Oceans (1973); next time around, we'll get a relayer to go for the one without too much drama, but for now click play and enjoy the sound of perpetual change.

Another day, another Democrat charged with taking foreign bribes, and yet none of them have been expelled from Congress - only Republicans do that because we're political chumps who like to lose. Plus, the UNC Chapel Hill frat boys proved to be too powerful, and so now the left is attempting to smear an Ole Miss frat boy as being racist, when I think he's actually the victim of a hate hoax. And finally, I explain why it's Biden's biggest donors who are juicing these campus riots, even if it hurts him in November.Guests:Benjamin Weingarten | Editor-at-Large, RealClearInvestigations & Senior Contributor, The FederalistMike Puglise | Former Law Enforcement Officer & Founder, Puglise Law FirmAngela Morabito | Spokesperson, Defense of Freedom InstituteIan Haworth | Host, Off Limits with Ian Haworth

Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom welcomes in Stella Morabito, author of The Weaponization of Loneliness and Senior Contributor to the Federalist, back onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss her new initiative to launch a new book club project that would offer a counter to the effort to weaponize loneliness, creating an environment where individuals can speak freely. Morabito tells about her great book, explaining how certain entities create division through artificial loneliness, pointing out real life examples from cults to political movements that employ the tactic. Morabito suggests how one can recognize and push back against the efforts, and explains what she hopes to do with her new book clubs. Then, Dom welcomes in Pennsylvania State Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill, who recently co-authored a bill that aims to grant amnesty to bars that violated COVID lockdown orders. Phillips-Hill explains that the bill would prohibit the PLCB from revoking or suspending liquor licenses, something they've allegedly done as a retort to businesses who didn't follow regulations during the pandemic. Also, Senator Phillips-Hill updates her bill on the banning of TikTok on Pennsylvania government devices, telling why she still supports the bill after Democrats filed an amendment extending its power. Today, both President Biden and former President Trump are set to make visits to the U.S.-Mexico border. Immigration has become a top issue for voters this year, with a recent slew of violent crimes committed by illegal migrants adding urgency to the situation. Many believe President Biden is considering an executive order to help relieve the border crisis; however, the White House has said that no action will be taken following the President's trip to Brownsville, Texas. Senior Contributor at The Federalist Christopher Bedford and former Obama Administration official Jose Aristimuño join to give their perspectives on the two presidents' trip to the Southern border, what messaging each candidate will likely focus on, and what they must do to win over voters on the issue of immigration. American consumers looking for relief in their wallets got bad news in January, as the numbers show households spent even more on their consumer goods and services. That worse-than-expected CPI report from earlier this month has economists concerned, and that report also revealed an unexpected, painful expense that's been rising fast…auto insurance. Senior economic analyst at Bankrate, Mark Hamrick, joins the Rundown to explain why insurance rates are spiking now and the crucial mistakes being made by Americans deciding on their budgeting needs.  Plus, commentary by stand-up comedian Jim Florentine.
