Once you've thought through the illustration of the man scaling the brick wall, and considered how to pray, here is a list of areas where you might pray for BOTH success and failure:1) Career and Education Choices (What if the ladder of success is a wall?)2) Financial Wisdom and Independence (Is the "love of money" dangerous?)3) Relationships, Particularly Marriage (What matters most here?)4) Christian Service and Ministry (Who is this about?)5) Physical Fitness (Do you want it if it becomes addictive?)6) Knowledge (Defeat my sense of knowing if it makes me prideful)Others may include:- My Family's Worldly Success (Are we proud of the right things?)- Being Right (Do we speak to win or to learn?)- Comfort / Peaceful Living (If it makes us less like Jesus, is it good?)- Popularity / Influence (What are the dangers if I am not prepared?)

And while we do note his good deeds in the middle, Jonah's story is usually told in a negative light. Jonah's sin drives the story, and it ends with his wrong attitude. I have far too frequently been highly critical of Jonah, and really, it was self-projection.I've struggled for many years with believing I lived in the grace of God. I, like Jonah, just mess up too badly and too much. But there is grace in this story. And Jonah's relationship with God, while tested by sin, was not broken by it. And neither is yours, nor mine, if we live by faith - even with our sins. Can I invite you to have more mercy on Jonah? And more crucially, on yourself. God has. And God is not, nor has, given up on you. Don't give up on yourself. He has done so much in Christ and with the Spirit to secure your salvation!

In this episode, I sat down with 10-year mortgage industry veteran Sal Rizzolo, Branch Manager at New American Funding, to unpack what's really happening on the front lines of lending right now. We talked about how AI is rapidly automating cookie-cutter loans — and how companies like Freedom Mortgage and Better Mortgage are already racing to cut human loan officers out of the equation. But instead of treating that as a death sentence, Sal breaks down exactly how he and his team are future-proofing themselves by mastering the 203K renovation loan — an FHA product that lets buyers purchase and renovate a home simultaneously with as little as 3.5% down. We dove deep into how this product creates supply in markets starved for inventory, how realtors can use it to close deals they would have otherwise lost, how homeowners can renovate without selling their low-rate mortgage, and why the most complex, human-intensive deals will always need a skilled loan officer who knows what no AI ever will. Sal Rizzolo Sal Rizzolo is a Branch Manager and Senior Loan Officer at New American Funding, based in Long Island, New York, with a growing presence in Florida. With over 10 years in the mortgage industry, Sal got his start after leaving a career as a hairdresser and was mentored by industry veteran Frank, who introduced him to the business and shaped his client-first philosophy. Over the past decade, Sal has built a reputation as one of the go-to specialists in renovation lending — particularly FHA 203K loans — becoming a pioneer of what he calls "ending renovation discrimination" in real estate markets. He operates across nearly all 50 states and is known for working with complex borrower profiles that other lenders pass on: lower credit scores, higher debt-to-income ratios, and buyers with limited down payments. Sal has hosted seminars for real estate agents throughout Long Island, converting educational events into lasting referral partnerships. If you enjoy it and want much more biblical depth, particularly on the back end, you can watch it here. Please consider how you would interact with Jesus if He came to your home and made this dramatic request of you. Consider how differently you would respond if you a) had to do it on your own, or b) Jesus went with you. Money is the secondary point of this study. The primary point is the power of a present, active, daily relationship with Jesus Christ.

And do you know how to handle jealous, arrogant people? If these questions intrigue you - please enjoy todays' study.

Are there non-negotiable things you would need to set right? Are there people you would prioritize investment in? How would you alter your day or week to make the most of your time? God has challenged us from Psalm 90, back in the days of Moses, to number our days. What if there was an exact number: 3,650?This exercise is about precision, not fear. It is about making sure each day we have left serves something bigger than itself, and that we leave this world with benefits existing for those who continue on. Come along on this journey today. You may need a pencil and paper. We need clarity on what matters. You may need to be ready to try some new things, though likely they will feel familiar in terms of value. And you may need some scissors. Because you can't build on the good without cutting out distractions. Many people plan to make the most of their last 10 years, only to find they have only months remaining. Don't wait for that moment. Act now. And maybe the Lord will give you much more time if He sees how prayerfully and faithfully and beautifully you are living!

"If you want to make a lot of money, solve big problems." - Elon MuskOur guest today is an early supporter Culture Matters and Senior Loan Officer with NJ Lenders Corp., Jeff Winick, and we're very excited to have him back for his sophomore appearance on the show.  There is a lot to cover in this episode, so buckle up and get ready to ride!  Jeff and Jay are unpacking the power of focus and how concentrating on one or two things instead of a whole bunch of things at once is going to maximize your chances to be successful at those one or two things, caring about the client first and making sure that their experience is positive and that they get what they want and feel like they matter instead of just being another number, how something as simple as a to-do list can help make sure you're not missing opportunities, and why acknowledging that you need to make improvements in certain areas is the first step to making those improvements happen.  Thank you to Jeff Winick for his time and expertise and we hope you enjoy this episode of The Culture Matters Podcast.

The housing market just pulled off something it hasn’t done in decades — and if you’re a buyer, renter, or anyone thinking about making a move in 2026, you need to hear this before the weekend. Mortgage rates jumped back to 6.22% this week after teasing a dip, new home sales dropped sharply, and yet somehow the data is quietly stacking up in the consumer’s favor. How is that possible? That’s exactly what we’re unpacking live tomorrow. Join me and Paul Fitts, Senior Loan Officer of Advantage Lending on Real Estate Right Now. Paul works in the trenches every day helping buyers navigate the rate environment, and together we’re breaking down the Top 10 residential real estate headlines that matter most to consumers right now — from the historic flip where resale homes now cost more than new construction, to renters securing concessions at a 10-year high, to the slow thawing of the lock-in effect that has frozen so many homeowners in place. We’re not here to give you hype or a national average that means nothing for your zip code. Markets like New York, Chicago, and Cleveland are climbing while Miami, Tampa, and Austin are falling — sometimes by more than 5% year-over-year. The data is real, it’s conflicting, and it deserves a real conversation. That’s what this show is built for, and Paul brings the lending lens that ties it all together for buyers who are close to pulling the trigger. If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to get serious about buying, selling, or renegotiating your lease — this is the episode. Touring activity is up 23% since January 1st, inventory is rising, and for the first time since 2022, buyers may be spending less than 30% of their income on housing. The window is opening. (The answer is neither: Prov. 17:15. But which way do you lean, cater, or find the most comfortable direction to err? Your personality may have more to do with your answer than you think.)Book recommendation: "Invitation to a Journey."Four Personality Categories: Two Sides for Each.Extravert vs. IntrovertExtroverts are energized by people and activity, talk things out, and process externally. But it can be overly so, to the discomfort of others. And the introvert in them will not have healthy private contemplation time.Introverts prefer solitude and reflection, think more before speaking, and prefer smaller circles of friends. This can be good, but it can also lead to an inability to be social and share the Gospel. And the extravert within them will be unleashed in unhealthy, random ways. Sensing vs. IntuitionSensing people like focusing on concrete ideas, facts and details. They deal with present realities and notice specifics. But too much of this can lead to missing the forest for the trees, and their intuitive side will seize on odd, abstract ideas.Intuitive people are open to possibilities, focus on meaning or the future, are imaginative, and make connections. But too much of this misses things right in front of their faces. And their sensing side may not know how to handle reality. Thinking vs. FeelingThinkers are analyzers and look for consistency. They decide based o reason and principles. This is all good. But they can also be without compassion or awareness of others. They have a feeling side, but it may stay suppressed and leak out in harmful or sinful ways.Feelers love people and love deeply. They feel for others and enjoy helping and entering into trouble to uplift. But they can do so without thinking and cause damage. Also, their brains want to reason, but because they are not explored, they are incapable of reaching foolish, illogical conclusions.Judging vs. PerceivingJudgers can be good. They like plans and closure, decisiveness and firm lines. But they lack adaptability, and often the ability to admit when they are wrong or don't know something. They have a perceptive, exploratory side, but if it is undisciplined, they may become unsure in biased or unsound situations. Perceivers are open and adaptable. They admit when they don't know things, nor do they think all things are black and white. This is good, until it prevents them from seeing clearly drawn lines and conclusions that need to be reached. They have a judgment side, but it isn't trained, and they randomly pass odd and cruel judgments out of nowhere.

Not just one day, but today. We are seated with Him in a place of protection, help, and assurance. He is with us always, even right now, and with Him comes omnipotence and glory. We are saved, secured, and safe.It is only from this seat that we can truly walk. And I don't mean just get up and start walking. I mean that what is true spiritually remains true: you are seated with Christ, even as you walk. The walk reflects the relationship. It is not an effort to validate what Christ did or to pay Him back. It is not a debt owed. It is a life of hope in Him.The devil will attack. He will try to ruin our confidence. But he is a loser. He has lost. We are on Mount Zion; he is in the valley of despair. We have the high ground in Jesus Christ, and the power of Christ to hold that ground.Sequence is crucial. You cannot stand if you are not seated, nor walk. Begin with Christ, pray about what is true, find joy in who you are in Him and who He is for you. And walk with life and stand with strength—His strength.

Allison Wagstrom is the Senior Loan Officer for Propel Nonprofits, whose mission "fuels the impact and effectiveness of nonprofits with guidance, expertise, and capital." Allison joins host Steve Boland to talk about the risks nonprofits face in 2025, and steps and tools they can use to manage that risk. Allison encourages charities to think in terms of revenue mix, program costs, infrastructure, and capital. She and Steve talk about examples in such areas of the emotional labor of program costs (because that is really people in most cases), the new risks in 2025 where government funding is no longer as secure as it used to be, and how a cashflow projection may not ameliorate all fears but provides a way to examine fears on paper. Allison discusses the role of the board in these times, and both of them caution that 2025 is still a year to consider building cash reserves, because 2026 and 2027 may have even more risk on the horizon. Sunsetting, mergers, and acquisitions may be on the table in order to preserve mission impact. Propel Nonprofits manages a Resource Library for charities to use in learning about their own options.

The first has lots of exploring and beginning. The middle has lots of cultivating and growing. But what is God's purpose for the last? According to Scripture, God did some of His most powerful work, for Himself, and in the lives of others, in that third stage of life: Caleb, Noah, Abraham, and Moses testify to that. The Scripture, in my view, opposes his opening remarks. But the fascinating thing is how he comes back around to personal choices to live with love, humility, obedience, and perseverance. This can be a good starting place when talking with Calvinist friends.MacArthur: If I could lose my salvation?I would.Right? If I could, I would, because I don't have the power to hold it.How can we have assurance that we are saved?Well, you can eliminate one thing for certain that can take your assurance, and that is the idea that you could lose your salvation. That's a lot.Salvation is forever.Salvation is eternal. There's nothing that can separate you from the love of Christ.Jesus said in John 6, the gift of you will come to me, and I will lose none of them, but raise them at the last day.Salvation is forever. So if you are saved, it's forever. That faith cannot fail because that faith is not your faith, that's a gift of God who's given it to you if hes to .So you eliminate that if you get your theology, right, that salvation is forever. So all you want to know is, is my salvation forever. And here's how you know.I think there are three tests and then a forthcoming.Test number one is, what do you love? What do you love?If any man is in Christ, he's a new creation, old things pass away, new things come. What are these new things?I like to think of them as new affections. So the first mark of a believer. It's not perfect, but it's evident love. What do you love? You love the Lord? You love His Word. You, you don't love him like you should, and he used to be increased. You don't love the word like you should, but you love those things. You love the people of God.You want to be with his people, you want to be in the church, you want to be a part of the worshiping group. So, love is the first evidence of a transformed heart. The second one is humility. There's a sense in which you are aware of your sinfulness, and you never really get over this incredible grace that's been given to you to save you.The third one is obedience. It's not perfect obedience, but it's a longing in your heart to obey the Lord. You do acknowledge him as Lord.Do you want to obey.So love, humility, and obedience. And then the fourth thing is this, it's trials, it's what can your faith survive? You know, people who say, well, I believe in the Lord, and something goes wrong in their life, and they walk out.Well, that's not a saving faith. That's not a faith that's a gift from God , because that lasts.

At the time of recording, he had just been shot and the outcome was unclear. There is so much evil in this world, all of it the work of Satan and the opposite of Christ. Please remember to love—love the innocent, love the ignorant, and love the sinner, all sinners. We will examine stories of violence today, calling for justice. But do not let hate or bitterness take root in your heart. Love your enemy and love them as Jesus does, just as Jesus loves you.If you'd like more information about that major story in this episode - the article by Yassir Eric — email me, and I will do my best to get it to you (emersonk78@me.com).Also, if you're interested in the Free Digital Journal and haven't received it, reach out via email, and I will send it to you. Excel Still More Journal - AmazonDaily Bible Devotional Series - AmazonSponsors:  Spiritbuilding Publishers Website:  www.spiritbuilding.comTyler Cain, Senior Loan Officer, Statewide MortgageWebsites: https://statewidemortgage.com/https://tylercain.floify.com/Phone: 813-380-8487

Send us a textHow do you deal with people who do not like you, or want to be around you, or who do not treat you well? What about self-focused people who can't see past themselves to love others, including you? Today we look at an empathy progress scale to learn to see others properly, emotionally, like Jesus sees them. Then we examine the need to be okay with not being liked. The goal isn't to have people treat you better. The goal is for them to find their way in Christ to become better people. The funny thing is, when it is less about you and more about them, you get more joy out of life and have a greater promise of repaired relationships. Daily Bible Devotional (Volumes 1 and 2):Amazon - (paperback, hardcover, and Kindle)Sponsors:  Spiritbuilding Publishers Website:  www.spiritbuilding.comTyler Cain, Senior Loan Officer, Statewide MortgageWebsites: https://statewidemortgage.com/https://tylercain.floify.com/Phone: 813-380-8487

Send us a textPicking the title this week was tough, as you'll hear in the episode. It was a genuine pleasure to listen to the best golfer in the world add some incredibly valuable perspective about life, golf, work, and family. There are many awesome ways to testify to the love of Jesus. Sometimes you can say His name and tell people how much you love Him. Other times, it's just refusing to get caught up in valuing things about Jesus and others.Today's episode includes excerpts from a recent interview given by Scottie Scheffler at the Open Championship (British Open). I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Please consider how the world is observing your faith and how you define success in this life.
