Environmental Advocates NY and the Environmental Policy Innovation Center released a new report today about New York's ongoing efforts to remove harmful lead service lines. The report recommends more funding and fewer hurdles in the statewide push to get the lead out. Rob Hayes of EA talks with Mark Dunlea of Hudson Mohawk Magazine.

On the twenty-seventh night of our #31DaysToHalloween the Mister joins me in reviewing GRETEL & HANSEL (2020), from director Osgood Perkins, the film has a screenplay by Rob Hayes based on the Grimm fairy tale.  Separated from their desperate mother, teenage Gretel (Sophia Lillis) leads her younger brother Hansel (Samuel Leakey) through a desolate, distant fairytale countryside in a desperate search for food and work.  After a long journey, the siblings are lured by the scent of a lavish feast to a strange, black-gabled house in the forest, home to the seemingly kind but unsettling woman (Alice Krige).  As Gretel's protective instincts clash with the woman's manipulative attempts to mentor her in burgeoning dark powers, the siblings begin to uncover the chilling and sinister secrets of the seemingly bottomless pantry and their host's true nature.  The film clocks in at 1 h and 27 m, is rated PG-13 and we caught it on the Hoopla app but you can find it on Prime Video, Pluto TV, Roku Channel, Tubi and to buy/rent on Prime Video. Episode 52 - Murdock and Marvel: 2000 Part 2 The new millenium started with some big endings, and comic book sales kept slipping this year.  But 2000 featured some big developments that would point the way to the future of comics.  Welcome to the Oughts, everyone!  This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2000.   The Year in Daredevil  Appearances:  Daredevil #10-13, Earth X #10-12 and X, Fantastic Four #27, Avenger #27, Essential Fantastic Four #3, Marvel Knights #5-6, Daredevil: Ninja #1, Maximum Security #1, and Nick Fury: Agent of Shield graphic novel.    Writing: David Mack (#10 – 11 and 13), Quesada and Palmiotti (12)  Pencils: Joe Quesada (#10 – 11 and 13), Rob Haynes (12)  Inks: Jimmy Palmiotti (#10 – 11), Rob Haynes (12), Mike Morales (13)  A very light year for Daredevil as the main run only released four books this year – all part of the Parts of a Hole storyline started in December 1999. The story would continue until March 2001 when Parts of a Hole conclusion called Vision would reach stores. Visions will be our spotlight for this week.  Issue 12, Gun Play, feels like a fill-in story covering a series of vignettes about Hell's Kitchen residents (featuring some very adult themes) while Echo and Daredevil fight rooftop-to-rooftop that was written by Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, with art by Rob Haynes. Although it was well written, it does stall the pacing of the story for an issue.  Outside of the main title, many of the Daredevil appearances this year were reprints including the Daredevil Visionaries: Frank Miller collection that was released in October which included 10 stories from the Frank Miller era and a second printing of the Punisher kills the Marvel Universe graphic novel.   One other original story was started in December and spilled over into 2001 - Daredevil: Ninja which was a limited series written by Brian Michael Bendis and Rob Hayes that saw Daredevil dealing with the Hand and reuniting with Stone in Japan. As we hopefully know by now, there is no safe level of lead exposure. But, many people still do not know if they have lead water service lines in their homes in Troy. So on Saturday, March 25, 2023, activists and concerned residents will go door-knocking to engage the people of Troy about this issue. Rob Hayes of Environmental Advocates NY Spoke with Elizabeth Press (EP).

The disclosure that many water pipes in the City of Troy contain harmful levels of lead has led city residents to demand that officials finally take action, especially after the city has been siting on grant funding for the issue for years. On June 15, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released significantly reduced lifetime drinking water health advisory levels for PFOA and PFOS forever chemicals. These toxic contaminants were the center of the water controversy in Hoosick Falls and at the Norlite hazardous waste incinerator in Cohoes.
