In this episode, we sit down with Hector Ortega—sculptor and founder of Ortega Sculpture and Silver Lining Metals Stamps, based in the Phoenix metro area. He emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and problem-solving as an artist, from developing fabrication skills to exploring different materials and processes. Ortega discussed the challenges of sustaining an artistic career, the need for diversifying one's creative outlets, and the spiritual and communal aspects of his work. He also talked about influential mentors, the value of risk-taking, and his desire to create large-scale public sculptures. On top of discussing his work as a large-scale metal artist, we also dive into Hector's second venture, Silver Lining Metals Stamps, where he handcrafts custom metal stamping tools used by artists and makers around the world. We also talk about his involvement with Sculpture Tucson, working with artist Michael Anderson of Arc Form Studio, doing yoga geared towards people who work in the trades, and the power that fabricators have with modern metal fabrication equipment. Joining me today is Jim Belosic, CEO and Founder of Send Cut Send. Jim has an incredible story of how he built a unique company to perform a very necessary service for home hobbyists, Makers, custom fabricators and small to large business owners. During the day Jim would work designing various types of websites and software programs and would work on building crazy custom cars in his off hours. He built many of the custom fabricated parts himself and one day incorporated a CNC plasma cutter to increase speed and accuracy of the parts he needed. Jim realized he could'nt be the only one in his area that needed custom parts made so he started to fill machine down time with custom orders and thus send cut send was born. Cub Kuker Supernatural Podcast EP398 According to the Book of Enoch, a group of angels known as the Watchers descended to Earth and interacted with humans, imparting various forms of forbidden knowledge. The Book of Enoch mentions several aspects of knowledge that the Watchers are said to have shared with humanity: - Cosmic secrets: The fallen angels allegedly revealed hidden knowledge about the cosmos, including celestial phenomena and the movements of heavenly bodies. This knowledge was likely intended to elevate human understanding of the universe beyond what was considered ordinary or accessible. - Sacred wellness: The Watchers are said to have taught humans the use of herbs and plants for wellness and magical purposes. This knowledge included the properties of various plants for spiritual wellness, as well as the preparation of potions and remedies. - Metalworking and craftsmanship: According to some interpretations of Enochic literature, the Watchers shared advanced knowledge of metallurgy, metalworking, and other crafts with humanity. This included techniques for forging tools, and artifacts from metals. - Astrology and divination: The fallen angels purportedly instructed humans in the arts of astrology, divination, and the interpretation of omens. This knowledge allowed humans to discern future events and understand the will of the divine through celestial signs and symbols. - Sorcery and magic: The Watchers are often associated with the dissemination of occult practices, including sorcery, necromancy, and other forms of magic. This knowledge empowered humans to manipulate supernatural forces for various purposes, both benevolent and malevolent. - Forbidden wisdom: In general, the teachings of the fallen angels are portrayed as encompassing a wide range of forbidden or esoteric knowledge that was deemed dangerous or off-limits to humanity. This knowledge challenged traditional boundaries and societal norms, often leading to moral corruption and spiritual downfall. It's important to note that interpretations of the Book of Enoch and other related texts vary among different religious and scholarly traditions. The specifics of the teachings attributed to the fallen angels may differ depending on the interpretation and cultural context. This video is purely my opinion and theories. Weapons, something that has been driving our evolution and survival as a species. Ancient Alien theorists suggest alien beings from other worlds gave us weapons, metals, and techniques. But what would an archaeologist say about all of this?In this episode, we will look at the evolution of metallurgy, from the earliest copper age to the invention of steel. What do we know, and how did these techniques evolve? As we will see, it was not as simple as one might think, as metalwork developed in different regions at different times. We will also look at Katanas, and they're supposed to be of superior quality. Are katana the superior weapon we see in movies, or are these just modern pop culture myths?Lastly, I will talk about Joan D'Arc. There are strange claims regarding her sword. In this episode, Mestre Roxinho and I discuss his childhood in Bahia, playing soccer and living on the streets. We talk about the strong sense of cultural identity instilled in him by his mother—his first hero and the rock of the family—which helped him navigate the extreme racism in Brazil. Metalworking, not capoeira, was what he learned first from his capoeira mestre. We talk about how they met, and about Roxinho's connection with African spirituality, Candomble specifically. His Capoeira Angola lineage is distinct from the Mestre Pastinha lineage; we talk about how it serves as a social political movement, and how the art of it saved him and showed him a positive way to live his life. He shares about his time teaching in Australia, and where he'd like to see capoeira develop in the future. Recent transgressions of some prominent mestres come into conversation, as does trauma and the process of healing. Finally, we discuss his latest book—Ginga of Resilience.
