Marketing is easy in the same way that being a pro athlete is “easy” - it comes more naturally to some, but it always requires work.My team and I have a joke about pushing the marketing “easy button” that spits out organic followers and flawless content. The truth is that even for professionals, marketing is a challenge. If it were as easy as most people assume, why do the world's most prolific brands designate one-third of their budgets toward marketing?Watch the full episode to find out what unseen work must go into effective marketing efforts. When did you first realize that Marketing is more complicated than it seems? My First Million Key Takeaways Martin Shkreli worked for Jim Cramer's hedge fund when he was in high school Martin became a millionaire at the age of 29 when he took his pharma company public “PubMed is the government database of all scholastic biomedical literature – so 36 million papers. If you sit there long enough and you have the passion, you can become a billionaire.” – Martin Shkreli It is not a crime to choose the price of your product He was bothered by the politicians trying to take the right away from entrepreneurs to set the price of their products, what he calls “regulation by embarrassment” If the regulators can tell Martin Shkreli what the price of his product should be, what is stopping them from setting the price of the iPhone? How much should a drug cost if it prevents the need for getting a $1 million surgery? After raising the price of the drug, there were zero patients that were unable to get the drug He hoped his casualness would encourage them to do some research and find out that no one (other than the insurance companies) were affected by the price increase Modern CEOs are not allowed to have a real personality: no one in the corporate world is allowed to have an opinion because it might be held against them or their companyMagic happens when you provide capital to great people with great assetsHealthcare is more expensive than we'd like mostly because of the artificially constrained supply of healthcare professionals, according to Martin Shkreli Read the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgEpisode 445: Shaan Puri (@ShaanVP) and Sam Parr (@TheSamParr) talk with Martin Shkreli (@marty_catboy), aka "the most hated man in America", about how he got started in pharma, his logic behind raising the price of Daraprim, why he spent time in prison, and what business he's starting now.
