Have you ever been in a relationship with someone who never cheated, never raged, never drank — someone everyone around you thought was wonderful — and yet you constantly felt like you were the problem? Like you could never measure up, never quite get it right, never escape the quiet but crushing weight of their disappointment? That's not your imagination. And it's not your fault. In this episode of the Covert Narcissism Podcast, Renee breaks down one of the most misunderstood and hardest-to-identify forms of covert narcissism: the self-righteous narcissist. This is the narcissist who gains their supply not from attention or admiration — but from their own sense of moral superiority. They would never cheat. They would never lie. And they will make absolutely sure you know it. In this episode, you'll learn: What narcissistic supply actually is — and why morality can be a form of it How the self-righteous narcissist uses a "moral scoreboard" to keep you in a one-down position The specific phrases they use that sound reasonable but function as control Why this type of abuse is so hard to identify — and why victims almost always end up blaming themselves The long-term impact on your sense of self, your confidence, and your own moral compass What healing looks like — and how to start reclaiming who you actually are Whether you grew up with a self-righteous parent, are in a relationship with a self-righteous partner, or are just beginning to connect the dots on why you always felt like the problem — this episode will give you language for something you've felt but never been able to name. You were never the problem. And the scoreboard was never fair. If you're ready to stop untangling this alone, Renee's coaching program is open. Visit covertnarcissism.com to learn more. Jesus proclaims Himself as the fulfillment of Isaiah’s promise, but His hometown rejects Him. The kingdom comforts the humble and confronts the self-righteous. Grace is offensive because it removes every ground for boasting. We apologize for the poor audio quality. Visit us online at: RenewalChurch.net
Think you're good enough for God because you're better than others? The Pharisees thought so too. Jesus had a different perspective. What if the standard isn't other people but God's perfection? That changes everything about how we approach righteousness and salvation.
An idolater must recognize four facts about themselves.
Remember God loves you so much he sent his Son Jesus Christ to take the punishment for your sins. You are of great value. Jesus loves you and He is just a prayer away!

Whether you're the younger brother demanding your inheritance or the elder brother bitter over feeling overlooked, this sermon calls both to repentance—and back to gratitude. With humor, insight, and conviction, Pastor Tori delivers a clear warning: entitlement will leave you empty, but gratitude will position you for the Father's blessing. Matthew 21:23-45
Like many throughout history, many in our day are guilty of self-righteous spiritual presumption. The idea that religious people would be under the wrath of God is ludicrous and highly offensive. Like water off a duck's back, the self-righteous deflect any idea of God's threatened condemnation. But like Israel of old, they are headed for a sobering wakeup call. We see this in Amos 9:1–10.
Self-Righteous for Self-Aware: God has invited us to live fully aware of our sinfulness, and at the same time fully aware of God's grace. To live with both realities protects us from self-righteousness and allows us to live out the true way of Jesus. Tune in to Week Four of Lean In - Vol. 2 here as Pastor Skyler touches on Romans 2:1-16

In every culture, we're drawn to do good. Yet Jesus reminds us that our works lose their meaning when they become monuments to our own name rather than a response to God's grace. The Pharisee in the parable shows how self-trust and comparison can distort even good practices, while the tax collector reveals the hope found in depending entirely on God's mercy. We often forget that grace is what begins every good work in us—and when righteousness becomes our personal ambition, it quietly separates us from both God and others. The way forward is through daily confession and a humble return to God, trusting His righteousness—not ours—as the true source of any lasting good. --- Scripture: Luke 18:9–14 (NRSV) The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax-Collector 9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt: 10 ‘Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax-collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, “God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax-collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.” 13 But the tax-collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner!” 14 I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.'
In this homily on October 26th, 2025, Fr Mathias preaches on the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector in the temple. Behind the ugly self-righteous pride is a forgetfulness of God as the source of our goodness, that leads us to look down on others. Since this sin is difficult for us to see, Father Mathias outlines three signs that might indicate that we're struggling self-righteous pride:1) We tend to take credit for the good things we're doing for God and others2) We don't often ask God for forgiveness3) It's easy for us to look down on others because their struggle with sinIn outlining these signs, Father Mathias offers ways to overcome each of them so we can not only walk away from our prayer justified, but so that we can be an attractive witness to the unbelieving world around us.

Warning About Ritualism Matthew 9:9-13 September 14, 2025 Pastor Tony Felich ----more---- Matthew 9:9 As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. [10] And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. [11] And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” [12] But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. [13] Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” Hosea 6:6 For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings. Humility about our sin and need for Christ guards against falling into the trap of self-righteous ritualism. Sick & Needy vs Proud & Self Righteous (9-11) Why did Jesus come?
