Ever feel over-scheduled, over-committed and over-tired in today's world? That we do so much, yet somehow, feel we're not doing enough? Christy Wright, bestselling author of Take Back Your Time and host of The Christy Wright Show, is an expert in cultivating balance, ditching distractions and prioritizing what actually matters. If you or someone you know is seeking a guilt-free tool to cut out what doesn't matter, prioritize the things that do and take back your time and your life, this episode is for you. SHOW NOTES: "Making it" because of struggle: Growing up, how Christy's mom launched a small bakery business was pivotal in teaching character, integrity, persistence and work ethic her formative years. Before becoming a speaker full-time with Ramsey, Christy said "yes" before knowing how and stepped in for Rachel Cruz while she was a project manager. "Some of the most incredible career opportunities are not positions that are posted but problems that are solved." - Sheryl Sandburg "If you wait until you have success to commit, you'll have neither. You have to commit before you have success." - Seth Godin What if "balance" isn't so much what you do but something you create + become in your life? Life balance is not doing everything for an equal amount of time. It's about doing the right things at the right times. Start doing what matters, stop doing what doesn't matter in today's season. "If we are not careful we will spend our entire lives checking boxes and never stopping to ask ourselves if those boxes represent anything actually worth doing." Create an ideal schedule. Take your current calendar and a blank calendar: Move over the things you have to do. Move over the things you want to do. Add whatever is missing. "We judge others by everything they do and we judge ourselves by everything we don't do." Listen to past Live Inspired Podcast guests + fellow Ramsey personalities Dave Ramsey, Rachel Cruz and Anthony ONeal. Get a copy of Christy Wright's Take Back Your Time here. What lessons have parents learned during distance learning and working from home? How can they create a better post-pandemic new norm? Maria invited back her friend and positive psychologist, Robert Zeitlin, to share his experience guiding and supporting parents and families to get back on track amidst the pandemic. Robert is the author of the books “Laugh More, Yell Less: A Guide to Raising Kick-Ass Kids” and “But I’m Not a Teacher! A Parent’s Guide to Learning Under Lockdown”. He has been helping parents to turn the challenges created during distance learning and working from home into learning opportunities for the whole family. In this episode, Robert and Maria dive into the learning superpowers from positive psychology that can help parents identify their children’s character’s strengths to prepare them for better livelihoods. They also discuss the tension created between parents and teachers during distance learning and provide guidance and insights to help them rebuild trust and create a better new norm at home and in the classroom. Using their shared experience in the mastermind group they co-created, they explore learning in relationships and unpack the role of time and space, infinite and finite games, and so much more in learning. Amber Rae (@heyamberrae] was on the wrong path. She was swept up in the hype of the Silicon Valley startup scene. She was working too many hours on too many projects. She pushed herself so hard, she drove herself into anxiety, addiction, and eventually triggered a seizure. But Amber was doing some writing on the side. That writing helped her discover what she was hiding from, and find meaning in her past. In Amber's mess, she found the message. Now Amber helps entrepreneurs and creators develop emotional mastery. She's sharing what she's learned in her new book, Choose Wonder Over Worry: Move Beyond Fear and Doubt to Unlock Your Full Potential. In today's conversation, we'll talk about: What's easy for you, but amazing for others? You'll hear shortcuts you can take to find the secret superpower hiding right beneath your nose. How did Amber become a writer by accident? You'll hear about the way she mentally framed the work she did, and how that held her back in some areas, while propelling her forward in others. What did Amber learn from working closely with Seth Godin? What did she do when Seth told her he thought the project she was working on would wind up a failure? Amber's a very exciting creator, and there's much much more to this conversation, so listen to hear the rest. Love Your Work is now fully listener-supported! Her writing has reached over 5 million people in 195 countries, her public art has spread to over twenty countries, and she's spoken to and collaborated with brands like Kate Spade, Apple, Amazon, and Unilever. She's been featured in The New York Times, TIME, Fast Company, BBC, ABC World News, Tim Ferriss's blog, and more. Previously, Amber helped launch six best-selling books as Chief Evangelist of Seth Godin's publishing experiment. On today’s episode, Amber shares strategies for combating worry, fear and anxiety and infusing more wonder and creativity into our days. ON TODAY’S EPISODE: A misconception that people have around the feelings of fear and doubt Her career path and what lead her to be an author, an artist, an inspirational speaker Amber’s experience working with Seth Godin What motivated her to write Choose Wonder Over Worry Her advice for working through imposter syndrome The two types of worry What wonder is and how it is a counterpart to worry How we can infuse more wonder into our lives and work The effect worry and fear have on us The importance of making friends with our feelings and questioning our feelings How we can infuse more positive feelings and more creativity in our day to day Amber’s advice for product-based business owners who have anxiety, worry, and fear What’s next for her KEY TAKE-AWAYS: “When I was able to detach it from being a reflection of my self-worth, whether or not things go how I wanted, but rather just a better story, that created so much more wonder, and fun, and freedom.” - Amber Rae “He [Seth Godin] wasn't going to hand us approval, but he was going to push us way pass what we thought we could do and show us that we were capable of much more.” - Amber Rae “I had all these limiting stories inside of my head about who I thought I was, and what I thought I was capable of that really paralyzed me creatively, and paralyzed what I decided to go after or whether or not I spoke up.” - Amber Rae “I'm the only one who thinks I'm not worthy enough. No, actually, most people struggle with that. That's actually what unites us as humans.” - Amber Rae “If the impostor syndrome is coming up for you, that means you're outside your comfort zone and growing.” - Amber Rae “Worry protects us, keeps us safe, keeps us accountable. Where it becomes toxic worry is when it says obsessive looping thoughts where we ruminate and ruminate and stay stuck on these thoughts that really hold us back and paralyze us.” - Amber Rae “Before we can step into really embody and embrace wonder, it's about really checking worry.” - Amber Rae “When we name it, we tame it. Name when that worry is showing up so that we can put it in its place, set a boundary and really create space for our creative artist to step up and thrive.” - Amber Rae “I literally think that the world will change when we can have a healthy relationship with our feelings and ourselves.” - Amber Rae “Infusing play and white space in our day also helps with addressing the feelings and also inspiring that creativity and the wonder.” - Katie Hunt CONNECT WITH AMBER RAE: Website: http://choosewonder.com Website: http://amberrae.com Instagram: http://instagram.com/heyamberrae Twitter http://twitter.com/heyamberrae LINKS:Choose Wonder Over Worry War of Art by Steven Pressfield Do the Work by Steven Pressfield Elizabeth Gilbert’s TED Talk IS WHOLESALE RIGHT FOR ME?
