Ardent Growth Founder & CEO Skyler Reeves shares with Dan Albaum how developing compelling, intelligent and relevant content - delivered at the right time to the right audience - is a critical enabler of sustainable growth.
In this episode, Skyler Reeves, the CEO of Ardent Growth, talks me through his business and how he found his niche. As a child, Skyler was into arts until he discovered his affinity for Math and Computer Science. He also served in the military, observing different cultures among people. His company, Ardent Growth, helps e-commerce brands understand which content they need to make and in what order to get results as fast as possible. In this episode, we discussed: The reason why order matters when putting out contents. How to reduce the time it takes for content to rank. The overlap between trying to solve a problem and producing something with it. The importance of having content strategies and answering your customers' questions through content. Mastering one thing first, then expanding your service offering. The importance of keeping your ROI compounding to keep the business going. Mapping your strategy by thinking about how your customers like to consume information and how they like to buy. How content can almost speak for itself. At present, Skyler's company is trying to figure out how to re-establish themselves and build that top-of-the-funnel awareness. He discussed the things that he had tried doing, and we also came up with the following: If you're trying to increase inbound, it's just around elevating your brand. It may be through podcasts, attending and speaking in conferences, and networking. Speaking at a conference enables you to validate people's assumptions that you know what you are talking about. Identify ideal influencers to partner with. Think about the metrics that matter to you, as far as ROI, and how to measure that. You have to ask your customers to know which channel or mechanism was the most impactful. It's not always a one-size-fits-all. Each person takes a different approach. Think of the solutions that will work and what you can do based on the timing and resources you have. Working with influencers, give the context, and let them come up with the content because they know their audience well. Create a referral program and find some incentive to provide them. This week we have Skyler Reeves here to dish out some truth about why having as much content as possible isn't the best strategy for your marketing plan. To have the best plan possible you want to make sure everything is in tip top shape and that means taking out anything that doesn't work! If you're looking to learn more about producing only quality content then check out this episode! Busted Myths: Having as much content as possible isn't always a good thing. Takeaways When it comes to marketing, quality matters over quantity. Too much content can drag down the overall effectiveness of your marketing. Generally, if you have a large website the average person will only see 10% of your overall content. So you want all of it to be as effective as possible. Create a hypothesis about what might be working best for your marketing and test it. Once you know what is working best for you, continue to build on top of that going forward. Take away whatever isn't working and replace it so it doesn't drag down your other content. When you're developing your new strategies, think of it like a marathon and not a sprint. Quote of the Show: “If you produce content every single day or every single week, you're producing too much, your quality is going to degrade. And then ultimately a lot of that content is not really going to do anything for your business.” - Skyler Reeves Links LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/skylerreeves/ Website: ardentgrowth.com/ Ways to Tune In Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-hard-corps-marketing-show/id1338838763 Amazon Music/Audible: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/37228621-2f9c-4905-a223-1844effb49dd Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1vVLpNI1LssMTiL6Kdsamn Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-hard-corps-marketing-show Google Podcasts: https://play.google.com/music/m/Im7mytmu2wa2mekhoeixlja5hpe?t=The_Hard_Corps_Marketing_Show YouTube: https://youtu.be/Pu1UixWsDYk

It's smart to organize content when you have a core piece of pillar content linked to several smaller pieces covering sub-topics around your main topic. Also, it's about knowing what to include in a topic cluster and how to organize information within a hub-and-spoke content model. Today's guest is Skyler Reeves from Ardent Growth, a content intelligence consultancy. Building out topic clusters can be expensive, especially when mistakes are made. How much time and resources does it take to produce multiple pieces to make something like the hub-and-spoke model work the first time around? Some of the highlights of the show include: How to use content intelligence to create better topic clusters Content Intelligence: Intersection between content strategy, business intelligence Marketers should care about topic modeling when building topic clusters Tedious Topic Process: Takes time if marketers don't start with parent keywords Content Value: Where should marketers prioritize things to get the most value? You can think of it as a precursor or an overarching theme to content strategy and content marketing.” “How do you know what the perfect hub is? How do you know when something needs to be part of hub A or part of hub B, especially when you're trying to rank these things on search engines?” “One of the easiest, quick ways to solve cannibalization without having to rely on your gut - just go look at what Google's telling you.”
