Was er verspricht?

Februar 2025, an.

Miguel is one of the sports industry's leading commercial agents. Mbappe, Neymar, Beckham, Mourinho, Ricciardo; Miguel has been involved with all of them. This is the side of the sports industry we don't hear about. Yet this is the side that drives more business than any other. Having worked directly for Kylian Mbappe's family office, and then for some of the worlds biggest agencies like CAA and Kin, Miguel's experience of capitalising on the global profiling of sport's biggest stars brings to life the art of the commercial deal. How do you source a sponsorship? Who are the most in demand athletes? Who has capitalised on their profile the best, and who has struggled to do so. This is a conversation unlike any other we have had on the show. If you want to know the inside track on the business world behind the world of the athlete, this is a conversation for you. On today's show we discuss: Athlete representation: What is the role of the off field agent? Neymar, Mbappe and many more; how has Miguel worked with the top talent in sport to build their brand off the pitch? How is it different representing athletes in football compared to an individual sport like Formula One or tennis? Commercial deals are a major part of modern sport. What is the process like to source and deliver commercial partnerships for the biggest talent in the industry? What is the makeup of the behind the scenes team that top athletes now have to work with? Who would Miguel most like to work with? Positive/Negative brand associations How do you decide if a particular brand is the right partnership to sign for an athlete? How important is it for athletes to know what their image and profile is looking to become off the field? What would an example of a negative brand association be? Is it company or industry driven? What factors come into play when negotiating access to a sports person as part of the brand deal? What are the best deals Miguel has been a part of? Is the demand on athletes to fulfil their commercial obligations manageable? Changing sports landscape How is the industry changing with its approach to commercial partnerships? Which athletes are proving the most sought after in the modern sporting landscape, and who needs to work harder to build a stronger profile. Some top players prefer to stay out of the commercial limelight. What does this mean for them? Will we see more productised business endeavour to replicate the CR7/RF type commercial agreements? Talent management is simple. All that is necessary is to match the many people in any particular rank and specialty who are moving at a given time to the right job that matches talent, enables professional growth, meets personal and family needs, and maximizes unit effectiveness and efficiency. Maybe it is not so simple after all. Sarah Kaiser and Jacy Park join host Lou Yuengert to discuss the results of their research on talent management in the Army and larger Department of Defense (DoD). Sarah researched the DoD Career Intermission Program (CIP), of which she is also a participant. Jacy examined the Army's current talent management efforts. They share their findings with Lou and highlight the successes and shortcomings of both efforts with recommendations for improvement. And so that was really the charge was to say, how can we use visual data from our architects and show our clients? Decisions that are made early in the process are really inexpensive. Decisions late at four-way are really expensive. At the end of the day, bringing clients into our office and sitting down and talking through things and seeing real emotion and then going on site and actually talking with our craftsmen and subcontractors that we work with and talking through how we're going to execute a detail or maybe it's a beam connection or all of those things. Those are irreplaceable.
Digital workflows are replacing paper-based processes, streamlining operations and improving efficiency. This trend is driving SSO/GBS to equip their workforce with the necessary digital skills to operate and excel in the new technology-driven ecosystem. As a result, talent capabilities are under the spotlight, with organizations focused on upskilling and reskilling employees, developing new talent models, and embracing flexible work arrangements to attract and retain the really key talent they so desperately need to meet their objectives. One GBS who is doing a particularly good job here is Commerz Global Service Solutions (a subsidiary of Commerzbank AG). That's why we invited Arne Graeber their CEO to talk to us about his talent strategy. This podcast is in conjunction with Shared Services & Outsourcing Week Malaysia. Greg Hendrick is a dream guest. He's smart, incredibly knowledgeable and experienced, but also really easy and fun to talk to. He's also still only in the fifth year of building out a major insurer, reinsurer and capital markets partner completely from scratch. For Greg and Vantage Risk, time moves a lot faster and experience is accelerated and compressed compared to the rest of us. There's a huge amount to talk about and that's why I was delighted to be able to spend so much time talking to him again. Here we catch up on how Greg's strategy has evolved against plan and get into great detail about the state of the market all the way across the insurance value chain. But I'm glad we also spend a lot of time looking at how technology is shaping the future of underwriting and completely re-organising the way that we all work and interact with our colleagues day to day. After all, not many people get to the chance use all their experience to design a whole new business from scratch following a contemporary Blueprint with no legacy issues to deal with. Greg sounds like he's really enjoying this opportunity and I think you'll enjoy it too. NOTES: Greg mentions a Dinos. That is of course Dinos Iordanou, Vantage Risk's non-executive Chairman. Friends of the podcast and experienced CPOs Colleen McCreary (CreditKarma, Zynga, Twilio, EA) and David Hanrahan (Flare, formerly EventBrite, Zendesk) join hosts Kelli Dragovich and Nolan Church for this roundtable discussion of where the puck is going for DEI in 2024. They offer their takes on the progress made over the years, the current camps in this debate propelled by the recent capitol hill hearings and Harvard controversy, and the necessity of founders and companies to better understand their own priorities and define their position on DEI. Nick is joined by Rob Huxtable, a partner at executive search firm Falcon, to discuss what it takes to thrive as a C-suite leader in a private equity-backed company. Rob shares his expertise on the characteristics and skills necessary for success in this environment, delving into the importance of self-esteem, execution at velocity, hands-on involvement, effective communication, and influence without authority. They also explore the need for alignment with the specific governance model of a private equity firm. KEY TAKEAWAYS Self-esteem and vulnerability are crucial traits for success in a private equity-backed company. Executives need to believe in themselves, be open to recognising their gaps, and continuously strive for improvement. Execution at velocity is highly valued in the private equity world. Executives must be able to make decisions quickly, be data-driven, and have a sense of urgency to drive results. Hands-on involvement is essential in private equity-backed companies. Executives should be willing to roll up their sleeves, be involved in various aspects of the business, and have a deep understanding of the operations. Effective communication is key. Private equity firms value clear, succinct communication that includes the problem, solution, and action plan. Building trust and maintaining alignment with the board is crucial for success. The ideal skill set for executives in private equity-backed companies includes a strong foundation from a blue-chip company, experience in progressively smaller businesses, engineering scalable operations, and the ability to align with the investment thesis of the firm. Adaptability and the ability to influence without authority are also important skills to possess. BEST MOMENTS "If you don't prepare properly for what is the biggest financial event of your life, you are the prey." "Private equity investors are some of the brightest and most ambitious and boldest business minds out there, but they're also risk averse, thoughtful." "You better be reinventing yourself and improving on a constant basis." "The minute you let that moat run dry, they have no choice but to infiltrate and start taking more control than you might like." "We want to make sure they are systematised and mechanised to scale, without excessive dependency on people and more dependency on process."
