We would be shocked if Brett Platts wasn't nicknamed “Coffee.” Not only does enjoy the hot beverage a “lot” by his estimation, he would also need it with how fast his career is taking off. The native of Albany, Prince Edward Island moved to Dawgs Academy in Okotoks for high school, and wound up at Southeastern Community College in 2017-2018. But a major ACL injury derailed his on-field dreams, leading him to get into strength and conditioning. He started his own business, then was planning to move back to Dawgs Academy, then was going to join the University of Iowa, before he got a call from the Chicago Cubs to work as a strength and conditioning coach for their young players in the Dominican Republic. Before he caught a flight out of town, we caught up with Platts to talk about his entire journey, including his time in our province, the mental challenges of coming back from injury, and how persistence paid off in making his newfound dreams come true.

Tony Cougoule is the Pitching Coach at Westmont College, an NAIA Division II program in Montecito, California. He started out his collegiate baseball playing career at Division III Ponoma Pitzer College, then got injured and transferred to JC Cañada College, then was recruited to play at NAIA Division II Mount Mercy University. After graduating from Mount Mercy University, he went on to coach collegiately, starting out at his alma mater in 2005. Then, from 2006-2007 he was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Azusa Pacific University and from 2008-2009 the pitching and defensive coach at Southeastern Community College. In 2010, he was hired on at Westmont College, where he still remains. In this Podcast, we start off talking about Coach Tony Cougoule's interest in Figure It Out Baseball, what about FIOB made him want to be a part of it, and what types of videos he has shot for the website. We than dive into everything pitching. Discussing what a proper warm up looks like, how to create an efficient arm, and the use of weighted balls and plyo balls. Tyler Anderson is a MiLB Pitching Coach in the Los Angeles Angels Organization. He began his collegiate playing career in 2007 at Glendale Community College. Shortly after, in 2008 he transferred to Southeastern Community College to continue his playing career. Then, from 2009-2010 he finished his playing career at William Woods University, a NAIA school in Fulton, Missouri. Soon after, from 2010-2012 he played professional baseball in the Australian Baseball League, being a part of the Perth Heat team. Once deciding to retire from playing, he began his coaching career as an Assistant Coach at Dartmouth University from 2015-2016. In 2017, he was an Assistant Coach at St. Louis University and in the Fall of 2017 he went on to Lindenwood University to be an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. In January of 2018 he was on hired on by the Los Angeles Angels as a Pitching Coach. In this podcast, we start off talking about baseball in Australia and Tyler explains how it impacted his playing career. We also go over Junior College Baseball and why it is so important for Australian baseball players. We than dive into Driveline Baseball, talking about the paper that Tyler published in October of 2017 called, “Implementing a Driveline Program in a Division I College”. Discussing why he decided to write it and what the experience was like when he implemented the Driveline program while coaching at St. Louis University. Justin Schulte is the Head Coach at Southeastern Community College, a Junior College in Iowa. His collegiate playing career is pretty interesting, Justin started at Division III Simpson University, then went to Junior College Southeastern Community College, eventually making his way to Division I University of Iowa. Overall, Coach Schulte's has been a college coach for 25 seasons, a head coach for 22 seasons, and spent 15 seasons at Southeastern Community College. Throughout that time, he has accumulated a very impressive 836 wins, never having a losing season. In this episode, we start off talking about Coach Shulte's journey at Southeastern Community College and why he has decided to stay. We than dive into what journey college is all about and what it can do for you as well as the stigma behind it being a place for players with poor academics. Additionally, we talk about how Coach creates a competitive atmosphere in everything his team does. We also talk about fall evaluations and the importance behind those. Cole Tucker figures to be a prominent piece of the Dawgs Red squad during the 2021 Western Canadian Baseball League season. The native of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland is a Dawgs Academy product who went on to play with Southeastern Community College before spending the last couple of years with the Niagara University Purple Eagles. He's coming off a spring where he hit .391 with three home runs and 19 runs batted in, while being named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Second Team. Coach Hunziker a 1996 graduate from Clark County (Kahoka, MO) which is where he gained his love for basketball playing for his father Gary in Elementary school followed by great coaches in Kevin Garner and Greg Buescher in High School. During that time Jaryt knew that he wanted to get into Education and coaching following High School. He attended both Southeastern Community College in Iowa (1996-1998) and Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO (1998-2001) where he earned a BS Degree in Education. Following college, he coached at both Clark County (boys) and Scotland County (girls/boys) in Northeast Missouri. While coaching the Scotland County girls they played for 3 District Titles winning one in 2011. He just concluded his 7th season of coaching the Boonville Lady Pirates where his team ended the 2018-19 season at 21-4. Over the last 7 seasons they have won 5 Conference Championships, 4 District Titles, made 2 Quarterfinal appearances which included a 3rd Place finish in Class 3 in 2015 (30-1). Overall record at Boonville is 149-43. Overall I have accumulated over 250+ wins during that time. His wife Amy and him will be celebrating their 15th Anniversary this summer.
