Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every single day. And a big shout-out today to Jon Carr from Richmond, VA. Jon, thank you for being a part of this movement through Project23. You are making a difference for the Gospel. This one's for you. Today, we're looking at Mark 3:20-26: Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.” And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.” And he called them to him and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. But no one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house. — Mark 3:20-26 Jesus couldn't even sit down to eat. I bet he feels like a mother of three at home without a husband who wants to lock herself in the bathroom to get five minutes of peace. I bet he felt like a manager who skips lunch to survive back-to-back Zoom calls. I bet he felt like a dad in the carpool line, answering work emails while refereeing a sibling war in the backseat. The house was full. The crowds wouldn't stop pressing in. But as the ministry was growing, so was the resistance. Even his own family thought he'd lost his mind. And the religious elite? They were now making accusations that went far beyond criticism. They said he was "possessed." Let that settle in for a moment. Jesus wasn't just misunderstood—he was accused of being aligned with Satan himself. Then Jesus speaks. But instead of defending himself with anger or argument, he pronounces a simple truth—one that cuts through both confusion and conspiracy: “If a house is divided against itself, it cannot stand.” It's a familiar phrase. One we quote often in politics. An adage we reference frequently in leadership. But Jesus wasn't talking about politics or corporate leadership. It was a reference to spiritual authorities. The claim itself was a logical fallacy—suggesting that a fallen creature like Satan could empower the One who casts him out. That demonic spirits serve the One who casts them out. The point Jesus was making was: You can't belong to two kingdoms. You can't walk in two directions. You can't claim spiritual power and ignore spiritual alignment. Because division doesn't just weaken things. It destroys them. That's true for nations. That's true for families. That's true for churches. That's true for hearts. When we live with divided loyalties—when we try to follow Jesus while clinging to sin, pride, or worldly thinking—we slowly collapse from within. Divided hearts drift. Whole hearts stand. Jesus calls us to wholeness—unity of heart, mind, and life. He invites us to live fully surrendered. To live all in for him. He's not asking for perfection. But he doesn't want your half-hearted allegiance. He wants all of you. A heart divided won't stand. But a life fully surrendered? That's where the kingdom of God breaks in with power. #DividedHouseCannotStand, #BindTheStrongMan, #WholeHeart ASK THIS: Where in my life have I allowed divided loyalties to weaken my faith? What “strong man” am I letting control my actions and decisions? How can I take practical steps today to bind that stronghold? What would wholehearted surrender to Jesus look like in my daily life? DO THIS: Examine one area of your life where you're divided and take steps today to surrender it fully to Jesus. PRAY THIS: Lord, I confess the divisions in my heart and ask you to bind every stronghold that opposes you. Fill me with undivided devotion to follow you fully each day. Amen. PLAY THIS: Undivided.
"The Good Shepherd" - Power and Promise Series Journey into John 10 as we explore Jesus's powerful declaration "I AM the Good Shepherd." This message reveals three transformative truths about our relationship with the ultimate Shepherd: • He Dies for His Sheep - Jesus didn't just give up a temporary existence; He laid down His entire being (suah) - every emotion, every part of His soul, His complete essence for our salvation. • He Loves His Sheep - This isn't distant, theological knowledge but intimate, personal relationship (ginosko). He knows each sheep individually, at their worst, yet gives His best. • He Unites His Sheep - Breaking down every cultural, ethnic, and social barrier, creating one unified flock under His perfect leadership. Key Scripture: John 10:11-16 (https://www.bible.com/bible/111/JHN.10.NIV) Learn why Jesus isn't just another hired hand who runs when wolves approach, but the one true Shepherd who stays faithful through life's toughest moments. Discover the difference between surface-level following and genuine relationship with the Shepherd who transforms, protects, and leads His flock to flourishing pastures. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. — Galatians 3:28 CALL OUT: I want to give a shout-out to Chris DeBoer in Peachtree, GA, who is a new monthly partner. I am thankful for you, Chris, and all who support us monthly and faithfully. So many people have taken this text entirely out of context. They use it to leverage ideological positions that this Scripture does not endorse. Let me be clear: This text in no way advocates for social equality and inclusion. It does not promote the fair treatment, opportunity, and acceptance of all individuals regardless of their background, identity, or circumstances. However, please do not hear me say this text endorses racism, slavery, economic oppression, and gender fluidity. It does not endorse either side of this argument because these issues are not what this text is about. Here is why: This text does not speak about social equality. It is speaking about spiritual equality. Sometimes, when we read Scripture, we are going to be tempted to read into a text from our own cultural perspective. This is called eisegesis. Eisegesis is an interesting word. It is a compound Greek word that forms one word and meaning. "Eis" means "into." "Egesis" means "interpretation." Thus, eisegesis is when we interpret a text by reading into it our own presumptions and biases. This is something we should always avoid when reading Scripture. It is easy and tempting to do, especially when you have strong beliefs and convictions about specific social issues. There are people in our time who have some pretty strong opinions on social issues. They are triggered when they hear social references to race, ethnicity, economic disparity, slavery, and gender. Thus, it is very hard for them to put these ideas aside when reading the Scripture. When they encounter a text like this one that seems to defend or dismiss their position, they will pounce all over it. On the other hand, a skilled student of the Scripture exegetes the text. Exegesis is another compound word. "Ex" means "out from." Thus, exegesis is when we draw out the meaning of a text from the text. It's understanding what the text is saying based on its own words, context, and historical background instead of adding your own ideas. You're trying to uncover the original meaning intended by the author. So, if we exegete this text correctly, we will draw out the author's intent instead of importing, imputing, and inserting our intent. So let's do that. But let's reread the text: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." First, Paul lists three subordinate groupings that are transcended in Christ. They are ethnicity (Jew/Greek), economic status (slave/free), and gender (male/female). Paul never suggests that these categories cease to exist or are no longer a present reality. Our ethnicity, status, and gender are a part of our human existence. But there is something that supersedes them. This leads to Paul making one positive assertion. We (i.e., believers) experience a oneness (i.e., spiritual unity) found only in Christ. Our unity is not found in this world. It is made possible and encountered only in union with Christ. This means our spiritual unity takes precedence over social identity in Christ. If we now carefully place this exegesis into the greater context of the chapter, it will provide even more precise meaning. Paul says our spiritual oneness in Christ is a status received by faith, celebrated in baptism, superseding but not absolving our ethnicity, economic status, and gender. Spirit-filled believers enjoy the blessing of living in a new spiritual family that comes with serious spiritual blessings. The blessing is found in the next verse, which we will read together tomorrow. This is a sound exegesis of this text. As you can see, it does not promote social equality and inclusion. It celebrates a spiritual reality in the church, made possible by Christ. This transcendent reality affects how we perceive each other in Christ without absolving our individuality or condoning human sin. Here's the application of this sound exegesis: Take another look at a believer in Christ. See them from a spiritual perspective and not only a social perspective. If you tend only to see their natural qualities, look beyond that today. Work in your heart to perceive them differently. See them as your brother and as your sister in Christ. Then treat them like a divine member of the spiritual family because, in Christ, you finally gain a diverse family with one thing in common—one Good Great Father. #SpiritualEquality #InChristAlone #BeyondSocialDivides #BiblicalInterpretation #UnityInDiversity ASK THIS: How can you actively cultivate a mindset that sees fellow believers not just through the lens of societal labels but as fellow members of the spiritual family in Christ? Reflect on a time when you may have unintentionally allowed societal biases to influence your perception of someone in the church. How can a deeper understanding of Galatians 3:28 shape your interactions and relationships within the body of Christ? DO THIS: Treat your spiritual family as your family. PRAY THIS: Father, help me to see others through the lens of Your love, recognizing the unity we share as members of Your spiritual family. Guide me to treat every believer with dignity and respect, as brothers and sisters in Christ. Amen. PLAY THIS: Good Good Father.

In His prayer for all believers (“those who will believe in Me through [the disciples'] word”), focuses on Spiritual Unity, Heavenly Hope, and Perfect Love. Many see this as a mandate exhorting believers to work to build unity. It is not. We are exhorted elsewhere to seek unity (i.e. Phil. 2:1-4). But here, Jesus prays that we may be so united with Him - as He is with the Father - that unity in the church will be the natural by-product. Unity in the Body of Christ requires humility and mutual respect. That only comes as we are joined in intimate union with Jesus. How personal is your relationship with Jesus?

On Sunday, we will return to the Embracing Our Mission series and consider another one of the priorities we must embrace as a church if we are going to fulfill our God-given mission. In preparation, it would be helpful if you read Ephesians 1:1-4:16 and consider why spiritual unity is so vital.

Why is unity in our lives, in our marriages, in our businesses and in our world so difficult to find? There's a missing ingredient. In this next episode of The Sermon Series, we discuss the nature of this missing ingredient, how to find it and how victimhood is an act of self-worship. Philippians 2: 1-11 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
